770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 2 2 Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server When preparing for Windows 2000 Server installation, it is important that you conduct a study of your requirements to find out the best method of installation. This exam will test your knowledge of installation requirements and your ability to decide on an installation method for a given scenario. You must have a solid background of installation prerequisites and different installation procedures. Some of the important aspects of installation are: knowing the minimum hardware requirements needed; checking the server hardware against the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL); disk partitioning; choosing a file system for installation; and deciding whether or not to join a domain during installation. Deciding on which file system to use depends on whether the system is a single-boot or multi-boot system running Windows 9x or Windows NT. When installing the Windows 2000 Server using a CD-ROM or over the network, you must have every piece of information available to answer the setup queries. TEST YOURSELF OBJECTIVE 1.01 Preparing for Installation The first thing you need for the successful installation of Windows 2000 Server is the hardware requirements and a study of the given scenario. The minimum hardware requirements are a Pentium 166MHz or higher processor with up to a maximum of four processors per server, a minimum of 128MB of RAM that can be up to 4GB, and 1GB of free hard disk space (2GB recommended). More hard drive space is required if the installation is to be done from a shared network. You must also have a keyboard, mouse, and VGA monitor attached to the system. Before starting Windows 2000 Server installation, you must check the minimum hardware requirements. You should check your existing hardware against the Hardware Compatibility List. The HCL is provided by Microsoft for all hardware supported by Windows The hard disk can be partitioned before, during, or after installation, but it is recommended that you prepare one partition before installation.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 3 Test Yourself Objective Windows 2000 can be installed on a FAT, FAT32, or NTFS partition. For single-boot configurations, NTFS is recommended. For dual-booting with Windows 95/98, you may choose the FAT or FAT32 file system. NTFS provides enhancements over FAT and FAT32, such as file-level security, encryption, compression, disk quotas, and installation of Active Directory. When preparing for Windows 2000 Server installation, it is recommended that you keep in mind the minimum hardware requirements, supported upgrade paths, partitions, compressed drives, and file system needed to meet the given requirements. You are expected to know the features of the FAT, FAT32, and NTFS file systems, advantages and disadvantages of each, and how to decide which file system to use. Be careful: the Microsoft recommendation is always the best answer when more than one answer seems to be correct. QUESTIONS 1.01: Preparing for Installation 1. You want to run a test installation on one of the Windows NT 4.0 servers in your office that has a 9.1GB hard drive formatted with NTFS. The drive does not have any partitions. Which of the following options will be a recommended method of installation, in case you do not want to retain the previous operating system but would like to keep the existing data? A. Perform a clean install and format the hard disk during installation. B. Upgrade the previous operating system without formatting the hard drive. C. Make a dual-boot system without formatting the hard drive. D. Repartition the hard drive and perform a clean install. 2. One of the Windows NT 4.0 servers has two hard drives that are mirrored using the Windows NT Disk Administrator. You want to perform an upgrade install of Windows 2000 Server on this computer so that the existing data on

Select clean install when starting the installation, and select drive D as the installation partition. 5. You want to install Windows 2000 Server on a computer in your office. This computer will be part of the existing Windows 2000 domain. A computer account has been created for this computer. What will happen if the DNS server or the domain controller is not accessible during installation? A. You will not be able to start the installation. B. The Windows 2000 Server installation will fail. C. You will not be able to join the computer to the domain during installation. D. You will never be able to join the domain.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 6 6 Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server TEST YOURSELF OBJECTIVE 1.02 Four-Step Process from CD-ROM Once the initial preparations for Windows 2000 Server installation are complete, you can start the installation either from a bootable CD-ROM drive or from the network. You must be careful that all third-party device drivers are readily available during the installation, specifically the SCSI controller drivers. If you do not have SCSI controller drivers, the setup will not recognize the hard drives and the installation will fail. Installation using the CD-ROM method can be used for a clean install or for an upgrade install. You can perform an attended installation of Windows 2000 Server from a CD-ROM or across the network. You can upgrade existing Windows operating systems to Windows 2000, or install it separately for single- or multi-boot configurations. Microsoft recommends a single-boot configuration for Windows 2000 Server. There are many command-line switches available to customize the setup program. To create the setup floppy disks, you must use the Makeboot.exe program. The Windows 2000 setup can be done using the CD-ROM process if your computer supports booting from a CD-ROM. Otherwise, you may have to use four setup disks that can be prepared using the Makeboot.exe (16-bit) or Makebt32.exe (32-bit) programs. You may have more than one operating system on a computer making it a dual-boot or multi-boot system, but it is recommended that, in the case of servers, the system have only a single operating system to ensure stability and reliability. In case you need to dual-boot between Windows 98 and Windows 2000 and need to access the Windows 2000 partitions when running Windows 98, you must choose the FAT32 file system.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 7 Test Yourself Objective QUESTIONS 1.02: Four-Step Process from CD-ROM 6. You want to create setup boot disks for Windows 2000 Server installation. You insert the setup CD-ROM in the E drive designated as the CD-ROM drive on the Windows NT 4.0 server. Which of the following commands will enable you to create these disks? A. e:\bootdisk\makeboot.exe B. e:\i386\makeboot.exe C. e:\bootdisk\makebt32.exe D. e:\i386\winnt32.exe /ox 7. Current Situation: The server where you wish to install Windows 2000 Server has two SCSI hard drives: drive C and drive D, each having a capacity of 9.1GB with approximately 3.5GB free space on the C drive. You have borrowed an EIDE CD-ROM drive and installed it on the server temporarily, which is labeled as drive E. The server currently has Windows NT 3.51 operating system installed on it. See the illustration for details. C Hard drive C SCSI 9.1GB Computer running Windows NT 3.51 D Hard drive D SCSI 9.1GB Borrowed CD-ROM Drive E to be removed after the file copy phase

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 8 8 Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server Here is what you have to do: Required Result: Upgrade the operating system to Windows 2000 Server. Optional Desired Results: 1. Keep the temporary installation files on drive C. 2. Install an additional folder named SpecialDocs during the installation. 3. Remove the CD-ROM drive after the file copy phase. Proposed Solution: Insert the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Select the Upgrade option from the Setup Wizard when it runs automatically. What results does the proposed solution produce? A. The proposed solution produces the required result and all of the optional results. B. The proposed solution produces the required result and only one of the optional results. C. The proposed solution produces the required result and only two of the optional results. D. The proposed solution does not produce the required result. 8. The Windows network in your office is quite unstable and the downtime of the Windows NT 4.0 servers is very high. The company has planned to upgrade the Windows NT 4.0 servers to Windows You have decided to install the Recovery console to all servers during the installation itself. Which of the following options would you use to accomplish this, considering that the operating system installations will not be clean? A. Use the Winnt32.exe /cmdcons command immediately after the setup. B. Use the /cmdcons option with the Winnt32.exe Setup command. C. Use the /cmd: command option with the Winnt32.exe Setup command. D. Do nothing. The Recovery console is installed by default. 9. The Windows 2000 Server installation on a new server has failed twice due to unknown reasons. You want to gather some information using the /debug

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 9 Test Yourself Objective switch level 2 with the Winnt32.exe Setup command when you run the setup next time. In which of the following log files will you look for the required information, considering that the Windows 2000 Setup folder is named Winnt and you did not specify any name for the log file? A. \Winnt32\Winnt.log B. \Winnt\Winnt32.log C. \Windows\Winnt32.log D. \Winnt\Win2000.log 10. Nearly all of the Windows NT 4.0 servers in your office network have identical hardware. The number of servers is eight, and each server is running different applications. Before you finally upgrade these servers to the Windows 2000 operating system, you want to check that the hardware is compatible with Windows 2000 and that the applications will run seamlessly after the upgrade. Which of the following options will enable you to accomplish this with minimum administrative efforts? A. Run Winnt.exe /Checkupgrade on each server. B. Run Winnt32.exe /Checkupgradeonly on each server. C. Run Winnt32.exe /Checkupgrade on each server. D. Run complete setup on one of the servers and check the setup log file. TEST YOURSELF OBJECTIVE 1.03 Installing Over the Network The installation of Windows 2000 Server on a large number of computers is usually accomplished by setting up a distribution server that is easily accessible on the network. The new computers connect to the distribution server by using the network client software, while others that are already running an operating system can connect to the network share to start the installation process. Building more than one distribution server ensures that the installation load is distributed across the network and simultaneous

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server installations can be carried out on many computers. Up to eight locations of source files can be specified with the /s switch of the Winnt.exe or Winnt32.exe Setup command. When a large number of installations are required, you may choose to install Windows 2000 over the network. There are two licensing modes: Per Seat and Per Server. Per Seat mode requires the client to have a license. Per Server mode holds the licenses, but there is a maximum number of simultaneous connections allowed to the server. A Windows 2000 server must join either a workgroup or a domain if it is not being installed as a standalone server. This requires you to have administrative privileges in the domain. You must have a 25-digit valid product key in order to install Windows 2000 Server. During setup, you must provide a unique name for the computer. The computer account can be created prior to or during the installation. To install Windows 2000 Server over the network, you need to set up a distribution server. To set up a distribution server, copy the /i386 folder from the CD-ROM to the shared folder on the distribution server for Intel-based installations. In Windows 2000, you can perform a network installation to a client with a FAT or NTFS partition. The client you are installing to across the network must have network client software that allows it to connect to the distribution server. If using the network client software on new computers, you must ensure that device drivers are loaded high and the Smartdrv.exe file is running. You can customize the network installation process by using the command-line switches for Winnt.exe and Winnt32.exe. Windows 2000 Server installations over the network require you to set up a distribution server and copy the contents of the \i386 folder to a shared folder on this server. The network clients that do not have any operating system can access this server using the Microsoft Network Client software and connect to the distribution server for starting the installation process. Usually, the Winnt.exe Setup command with appropriate switches is used to initiate installation.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 11 Test Yourself Objective QUESTIONS 1.03: Installing Over the Network 11. You have copied the \i386 folder from the Windows 2000 Server setup CD-ROM to the D drive of one of the file servers, for distributing the installation files. You need to put device driver files on this server. You choose one of the new servers and start it up using the networking client software. The connection to the distribution file server is successful. You map the E drive to the distribution server. Which of the following is a correct syntax for starting the Windows 2000 Server installation on the new server? A. E:\i386\setup.exe B. E:\i386\winnt32.exe C. E:\i386\winnt.exe D. E:\i386\autorun.bat 12. You asked one of your juniors to install the Windows 2000 Server operating system on a new server for which you have already created a computer account in the domain. Later, he called you up and asked about the licensing mode to choose from the given options. You are not sure which licensing mode he should choose. What would you suggest he do in this situation? A. Select the Per Server mode. B. Select the Per Client mode. C. Select the Per Seat mode. D. Skip for now. 13. After creating a network share and starting a new computer with the network client software, you noticed that the Windows 2000 Server installation is running extremely slow and will probably take 6 to 8 hours. The computer has a Pentium III 500MHz processor with 128MB of RAM. The conventional memory is 640KB on this server. Which of the following options can you

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server use to overcome this problem, considering the server does not have a CD-ROM drive? A. Run Winnt.exe with /Makelocalsource switch. B. Run Smartdrv.exe before running Winnt.exe. C. Increase the RAM to at least 512MB. D. Increase the conventional memory to at least 2048KB. 14. You have been asked to install Windows 2000 Server on a new computer that will serve as the Remote Access Server for the company. Mobile users and some managers will use this server to dial in and have access to network resources. The network already has Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and WINS running on one or more of the servers. Which of the following networking components must you install during setup in order to accomplish this? A. Terminal Services B. Internet Authentication Service C. DHCP Services D. Remote Installation Services Questions This scenario should be used to answer questions 15, 16, and 17. You are the network administrator of a medium-sized organization that has 30 servers. The operating systems running on these servers are as follows: 1. Windows NT 4.0 Server Enterprise Edition: 15 servers 2. Windows NT 4.0 Server: 10 servers 3. Windows NT 3.51 Server: 5 servers All the servers have SCSI hard drives with Windows NT 4.0 servers configured with hardware-based RAID5. These servers have two partitions each with more than 2.5GB of free space. The Windows NT 3.51 servers have Windows NT disk mirroring (RAID1) enabled. The lowest RAM in the servers is 256MB that is present in the Windows NT 3.51 servers. All Windows NT 4.0 servers have 1GB of RAM. These servers also have Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 installed. Only two of the Windows NT 3.51 servers have CD-ROM drives in them.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 13 Test Yourself Objective All 30 servers on the network have different applications running on them depending on their role in the network. The company has purchased a copy of Windows 2000 Server operating system with 55 licenses. The company has just received a consignment of 20 new servers with Pentium III 500MHz Processors, 2GB RAM, and three 9.1GB SCSI hard drives each. These servers are meant for upgrading the capacity of the existing network. Refer to the following illustration for details. Upgrade Upgrade Clean install Win NT 4.0 Enterprise servers 15 SCSI disks RAID5 Two partitions Free space >2.5GB Win NT 4.0 servers 10 SCSI disks RAID5 Two partitions Free space >2.5GB Win NT 3.51 servers 5 SCSI disks RAID1 Two partitions Free space >2.5GB Existing server hardware 30 numbers Pentium III 500MHz 2GB RAM 3 9.1GB SCSI hard drives each server New server hardware 20 numbers With the given scenario, you are to carry out Windows 2000 Server installations on the existing and new servers. Answer the following questions selecting the best answer for each of them.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server 15. Which of the existing servers can be upgraded to Windows 2000 without disturbing the current disk configurations? Consider that you have SCSI device drivers with you. A. All the existing servers B. All servers that do not have software mirroring C. All servers that have hardware RAID5 D. None of the existing servers 16. All new servers will be installed simultaneously from a distribution server. These servers will also have hardware RAID5 disk configurations. What is the best way to distribute the network load during installation and at the same time avoid creation of disk partitions during setup? The installations must also take minimum administrative effort. (Choose the best answer.) A. Configure RAID5 and partition the hard disk before setup, and run setup from the network share simultaneously. B. Configure and partition the hard drives before setup, and run setup from the CD-ROM drive. C. Configure RAID5 before setup, run setup from the network, and share and partition each hard disk during installation. D. Configure RAID5 before setup, run setup from the CD-ROM drive, and partition each hard disk during installation. 17. Which of the following servers cannot be upgraded to the Windows 2000 Server operating system? A. All Windows NT 3.51 servers that do not have CD-ROM drives B. All Windows NT 4.0 servers that have SP 5 installed C. All Windows NT 4.0 servers that are running Enterprise Edition D. None of the existing servers can be upgraded to Windows 2000 Server

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 15 Lab Question 15 QLAB QUESTION Objectives Current Situation: You have a Windows NT 4.0 server running the Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 4 installed. This server is a member server in the domain and has to be upgraded to Windows 2000 Advanced Server for test purposes. The server is running some custom-built applications that are installed on the C drive, and the D drive hosts the data files. This drive is shared across the network with active connections. Some of the data in the D drive is confidential and must be kept secure during and after the installation. The hard disk is a SCSI disk. You have checked the HCL and found that most of the components are compatible with Windows 2000 Advance Server. Following are some suggested steps for the installation process. Find any missing or incorrect steps. 1. Check that the server hardware meets the minimum (preferable recommended) level of requirement for the upgrade install. 2. Obtain device drivers for the SCSI hard disk. Obtain any upgrade packs for other devices that are not listed in the HCL. 3. Ensure that you have sufficient rights to perform the installation. Create a computer account in the domain. 4. Insert the Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Close the Setup Wizard dialog box when it appears. 5. Browse the CD-ROM contents and expand the \i386 folder. Locate the Winnt.exe file. Double-click the file to start the installation. When prompted, provide the SCSI device driver disk. 6. When prompted, join the computer to the domain using the administrative privileges. Leave the Administrator Password blank, since this is a test installation. 7. Install any additional networking components that you require on this server. 8. When the installation is complete, ask the network users to check that the applications are still running.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 17 In-Depth Answers 17 AIN-DEPTH ANSWERS 1.01: Preparing for Installation 1. B. Upgrade the previous operating system without formatting the hard drive. In order to retain the data on the hard drive, it must not be formatted under any circumstances. This option also enables you to keep the Windows 2000 Server as the only operating system. A is incorrect because it suggests formatting the hard drive, which would destroy the existing data on the system. C is inappropriate because a dual-boot system is not desired. D is incorrect because repartitioning the hard drive will also cause loss of existing data. 2. A. Leave the disk mirroring unchanged. If the disk mirroring is done using the Windows NT Disk Administrator, or if it is hardware-based mirroring, you do not need to break the mirror to successfully upgrade Windows NT 4.0 to Windows Breaking the mirror is only necessary if you want to perform a clean install. B is incorrect because there is no need to break the mirror set when you want to upgrade an existing Windows NT operating system. C is inappropriate, as you do not need to break the mirror or reformat the hard drives. Reformatting the hard drives will cause loss of data. D is incorrect because you cannot break the mirror set during installation. 3. B. The proposed solution produces the required result and one of the optional results. The proposed solution produces a clean installation of the Windows 2000 Server on a separate partition that will make the system dualboot between the Windows 98 and Windows 2000 Servers. The first desired result is not produced because you will not be able to access drive D when running Windows 98, which has been converted to NTFS. The second desired result is produced as the sensitive data gets secured using the Windows 2000 file encryption.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server A is incorrect because only the required result and one of the desired results is produced. C is incorrect because one of the desired results is produced. D is an invalid choice because the required result is produced with the proposed solution. 4. D. Select clean install when starting the installation and select drive d as the installation partition. In order to dual-boot the Windows 2000 server with any other supported operating system, you must select to perform a clean install on a separate drive. A is incorrect because upgrading the existing Windows NT 4.0 operating system will not enable you to make a dual-boot system. B is incorrect because if you choose to install a Windows 2000 server on the existing Winnt folder on drive C, the previous operating system will be overwritten. C is incorrect because selecting the upgrade option when starting installation will not enable you to make a dual-boot system. 5. C. You will not be able to join the computer to the domain during installation. During the installation of a Windows 2000 server as a member server, the domain controller and the DNS server must be online and accessible on the network. If this is not ensured, the new server will not be able to join the domain as a member server. The server will be installed as a standalone server. You can join the domain later using the Network Identification tab in System Properties. A is incorrect, as there will not be any problem starting the Windows 2000 Server installation. B is incorrect because the Windows 2000 installation will not fail. D is incorrect because you can join the computer to the domain at a later time, when the domain controller and the DNS server are available on the network. 1.02: Four-Step Process from CD-ROM 6. C. e:\bootdisk\makebt32.exe. The Makebt32.exe is a 32-bit program in the \Bootdisk folder of the Windows 2000 setup CD-ROM that is used to create four setup boot disks. This command is used on Windows 2000 and Windows NT computers. A is incorrect because the Makeboot.exe is a 16-bit program used to create Windows 2000 setup boot disks from computers running Windows for

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 19 In-Depth Answers 19 Workgroups 3.11 and Windows 9x. B is incorrect because the Makeboot.exe is not located in the \i386 folder and is not used to create setup boot disks from 32-bit operating systems such as Windows NT and Windows D is an incorrect choice because the Winnt32 /ox command is used in Windows NT for creating setup boot disks and is not a valid command for Windows B. The proposed solution produces the required result and only one of the optional results. You will be able to upgrade the current Windows NT 3.51 operating system to Windows The first of the optional results is produced because the setup will automatically place the temporary installation files on drive C. The second and third optional results are not produced, because the Setup Wizard will neither allow you to specify the additional folder to install during the setup, nor will you be able to remove the CD-ROM after the file copy phase. In order to achieve these two results, you must use the Winnt32.exe Setup command with additional switches. The optional switch /copydir:specialdocs with Winnt32.exe command allows you to install the additional folder. The /makelocalsource switch will allow you to copy the setup files to the hard drive so that you can remove the CD-ROM drive after the file copy phase. You need not specify the temporary folder location with the Winnt32.exe command, as it will automatically be created in the C drive. A is incorrect because the proposed solution produces the required result but does not produce all of the optional results. C is incorrect because the proposed solution does not produce two optional results. D is also inappropriate because the proposed solution does produce the required result. 8. B. Use the /cmdcons option with the Winnt32.exe Setup command. The Recovery console is installed during Windows 2000 setup using the /cmdcons optional switch with the Winnt32.exe command. When you use the Winnt32.exe Setup command from the Windows NT 4.0 operating system, you can upgrade the server to Windows Once installed, the Recovery console can be started from the initial boot Options menu when the computer starts up. A is incorrect because the given solution does not allow you to install the Recovery console during the operating system installation. The given command however, is correct. C is incorrect because the /cmd: command switch is used to run an additional command before the final phase of setup, and cannot be used to install the Recovery console. D is incorrect because the Recovery console is not installed by default.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server 9. B. \Winnt\Winnt32.log. The /debug option records the debug information in the log file that is named Winnt32.log by default. This file is located in the \Systemroot folder, which is \Winnt. Hence, the debug log file is \Winnt\ Winnt32.log. A is incorrect because the default name of the debug log file is not Winnt.log. C is incorrect because the name of the Systemroot folder is incorrectly given as Windows. D is also an invalid choice because it gives the name of the debug log file as Win2000.log, which is incorrect. If no name is specified for the debug log file, the name defaults to Winnt32.log. 10. B. The /Checkupgradeonly switch with the Winnt32.exe Setup command runs a compatibility check on the existing hardware and all installed applications on a running server. This command generates a log file named Winnt32.log (located in the installation folder) that explains the compatibility details. A is incorrect because the Winnt.exe command cannot be run on a server running Windows NT 4.0. Moreover, there is no such switch as /Checkupgrade. C is incorrect because the given switch /Checkupgrade is incorrect. It should be /Checkupgradeonly. D is an inappropriate answer because running a complete setup on one of the servers is a risky process, as the server will be upgraded to Windows Even if the upgrade is fully successful on this server, it is not definite that the upgrade process on all servers will be successful, because each server does not have a identical set of installed applications. 1.03: Installing Over the Network 11. C. E:\i386\winnt.exe. This is the correct syntax for starting the Windows 2000 Server setup from a network share on a new server that does not contain any operating system. We have to use the Winnt.exe program because the network client software emulates the 16-bit MS-DOS operating system. A is incorrect because the Setup.exe command is not used to start the Windows 2000 setup. This file is called by the Autorun.bat program. Moreover, this file is not located in the \i386 folder. B is incorrect because the Winnt32.exe command is used from a running 32-bit operating system to start the installation. D is also incorrect because the Autorun.bat file is not located in the i/386

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 21 In-Depth Answers 21 folder. This file is automatically started when the Windows 2000 Server setup CD-ROM is inserted in a running 32-bit operating system such as Windows 98 and Windows NT. 12. A. Select the Per Server mode. When you are not sure about the licensing mode, you should select the Per Server mode. This enables you to change the licensing mode to Per Seat mode at a later time. B is incorrect as there is no Per Client licensing mode. The only two options are Per Server and Per Seat. C is incorrect because the Per Seat mode is not a better option when you are not sure about the correct licensing mode. This option does not allow you to change to Per Server mode at a later time. D is an invalid choice because you cannot skip the Licensing question during setup. If you do, the setup program will terminate. 13. B. Run Smartdrv.exe before running Winnt.exe. When you run the Windows 2000 Server setup over the network, you must ensure that at least 500KB of conventional memory is free. If this is not ensured, the setup takes nearly 8 to10 hours, or sometimes longer, to complete. To overcome this problem, run the Smartdrv.exe command. You may also want to run LoadHigh Winnt.exe and Emm386.exe to ensure that all device drivers are loaded high. A is incorrect because the /Makelocalsource will not make any difference if the Smartdrv.exe is not running before you start the setup. C is incorrect because increasing the RAM to 512MB will not resolve the problem, as the pre-copy and text-mode portions of the setup run in MS-DOS mode. D is incorrect because it is not possible to increase the conventional memory of a computer. You can only increase the expanded memory (RAM). 14. B. Internet Authentication Service. The Internet Authentication Service is a part of the Windows 2000 Server networking component that enables remote users to dial in to the Remote Access Server on the network. A is incorrect because Terminal Services are not required for the desired purpose. C is incorrect because you do not need to install another DHCP server when one is already active on the network. D is incorrect because the Remote Installation Services is meant for deployment of the Windows 2000 Professional operating system on clients, and is not meant for Remote Access.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page Chapter 1: Attended Installation of Windows 2000 Server 15. B. All servers that do not have software mirroring. You must first break the mirror sets in all the existing servers that have Windows NT 4.0 mirroring enabled. An upgrade install is not possible when software mirroring is enabled. The mirror can be reestablished after the setup is complete. This is not required, however, when you are performing a clean install. A is incorrect because not all, but most, of the servers do not have mirroring enabled and can be upgraded to a Windows 2000 operating system without disturbing the existing disk configurations. C is incorrect because the servers that have hardware RAID5 can be upgraded to Windows 2000 without disturbing the disk configuration. D is incorrect because many of the existing servers can be upgraded to Windows A. Configure RAID5 and partition the hard disk before setup, and run setup from the network share simultaneously. This option is the best answer for running attended Windows 2000 Server installations simultaneously on all new servers. The hardware RAID5 must be configured and all partitions created before running the setup. Running setup from the network share ensures that the installations are carried out simultaneously. B is not the best choice because you do not have 20 copies of the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM. C is incorrect because it is not possible to partition the hard disk during installation when RAID5 is hardware-based. D is incorrect for two reasons: First, the installations cannot be run simultaneously from a single copy of the setup CD-ROM, and second, a hard disk cannot be partitioned during setup in the case of hardware-based RAID C. All Windows NT 4.0 servers that are running Enterprise Edition. The Windows NT 4.0 servers with Enterprise Edition cannot be upgraded to the Windows 2000 Server operating system. The only upgrade path for these is to the Windows 2000 Advance Server. All other servers with either Windows NT 4.0 OS or Windows NT 3.51 can be upgraded to Windows A is incorrect because the servers without CD-ROM drives can use the network share for the upgrade installations. B is incorrect because Service Pack 5 for the Windows NT 4.0 server is not a constraint in upgrading these servers to Windows D is an inappropriate choice because most of the servers can be upgraded to the Windows 2000 Server operating system.

770c01.qxd 10/5/00 5:45 PM Page 23 Lab Answer 23 ALAB ANSWER Objectives The suggested steps look good but there are many steps either missing or incorrect. Some of the steps are unnecessary and can be avoided. Let us have a look at all of them: 1. The first missing step is that before you start the actual installation, you must run the Winnt32.exe /Checkupgradeonly command on the server that has applications running to ensure that there are no compatibility issues. Installation should only be carried out if all the applications are compatible. 2. The statement indicates that some users have active connections to the server. These users must be asked to disconnect from the server before starting the installation, or they might loose unsaved data. 3. Once the above two items are taken care of, you may start the installation directly from the Setup Wizard that appears when the Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD-ROM is inserted. You do not need to cancel this wizard and browse the CD-ROM contents to find out the setup file. The given steps also suggest that you run the Winnt.exe file, which is incorrect. Even when you decide to run the setup manually, you should run the Winnt32.exe file. 4. Next, you leave the Administrator Password blank. This is an unwise step since the server is hosting confidential data. It is also suggested that you give access to users for testing the application when the installation is over. Leaving a blank Administrator Password is the most insecure method of providing access. The Administrator Password must not be left blank in any case.
