9 CHAPTER 1 VDS Software Installation Overview Software Installation Requirements, page 1 Software Installation Requirements Note This software installation procedure is for Videoscape Distribution Suite (VDS) version It is strongly recommended that this software installation be performed by a Cisco Systems representative. Before installing the VDS Management Services software, the following requirements must be performed. Download needed software Create Virtual Machines Install the VMware ESXi software Required Software The VDS Management software is downloadable utilizing the Open Virtualization Format (OVF) files for deployment on a VMWARE ESXi host. The CentOS operating system and all required software components are included in each OVF. The following is a list of components and the order they should be installed within the VDS system. Core Services - Management Services Node - Database Node User Interface VDS Management Service Node Analytics Nodes - Search Head - Indexer Rev 1 1

Software Installation Pre-requisites Before the VDS Management software can be installed, the following OVF files must be downloaded and then accessed by the VMware client for installation: Core-Svcs UI Vds-mgr Analytics The CentOS operating system and all required software components are included in each OVF. Also, before beginning the software configuration process, gather all networking information (IP addresses, node names, and network parameters). 2 Rev 1

When finished, select Finish to deploy the VM. A popup similar to the following is displayed. Depending on the resources available and the location of the OVF, deployment time of the VM can vary. To install the UI node software onto a VM, complete the following: Note The procedure that follows uses the same procedure as the Core Services node. Refer to the Installing the Videoscape Distribution Suite (VDS) Core Management Services Software onto a VM, on page 3 for screens and additional information. To install the Management Service node software onto a VM, complete the following: Note The procedure that follows uses the same procedure as the Core Services node. Installing the VDS Analytics Node Software onto a VM The VDS Analytics nodes should be installed after the VDS Management Service node. The VDS system uses four analytics nodes: Search Head, Indexer, Forwarder and Job Scheduler. The installation procedure for these analytics nodes is the same. Verifying and Backing Up the VDS OVF VMs Before continue the individual node configuration, it is important to verify and backup all VDS OVF VMs. Verifying the VDS VMs are Available To verify that the VDS VMs are deployed and available, complete the following: DETAILED STEPS Step 1 Using the VMware s vsphere client, navigate to the location on the ESXI host where the OVF is deployed and the VMs are stored. 33 VDS Services Virtual Machine Deployment Snapshotting the VDS VMs Step 4 To verify the configured settings for a VM, click on the desired VM and then on the Summary tab. For example: Snapshotting the VDS VMs DETAILED STEPS Snapshotting the VMs allows a means to rollback the configuration, should any of the initial configuration become corrupted. To snapshot each of the VMs, complete the following: Step 1 Using the VMware s vsphere client, navigate to the location on the ESXI host where the OVF is deployed and the VMs are stored. Step 2 Select View > Inventory > Rev 1 25

This configuration consists, as a minimum, of the following: Power on and boot the VMs Login and change passwords Configure network settings Reboot VMs Log into the device UI and configure the service This configuration process should be done in the following order: Core Services - Core Management Services - Database Node User Interface VDS Management Service Node Analytics Nodes - Search Head - Indexer Rev 1 29

38 Configuring VDS Core Services VDS Services Setup and Configuration - Forwarder - Job Scheduler Configuring VDS Core Services Core Services consist of a Management Services node and a database node. These services must be configured first, each node registers with the core management services node. Configuring the VDS Core Management Services Node Note The procedure that follows assumes that all VDS Services VMs have been created and deployed. If this has not been completed, please do so now. To configure the VDS Core Management Services node, complete the following: DETAILED STEPS Step 1 Step 2 Using the VMware s vsphere client, access the ESXi host where the OVF VMs are located. Step 4 Once the VM is powered on, right click on the VM again and select Open Console. Allow the VM to finish starting the boot procedure. Rev 1 31

Step 10 If the IP addressing is not obtained via DHCP, enter the Default Gateway, choose the Eth0 interface, and press Enter. Rev 1 37

Step 12 Set the DNS server setting to All other nodes use the Core Services IP address as their DNS server. Press Enter. Step 13 Enable eth0. If configuring static addressing, deselect the DHCP option to specify the IP address and netmask. 38 Rev 1

47 VDS Services Setup and Configuration Configuring the VDS Core Management Services Node Step 14 Enter the IP Address and netmask. Select Save. The completed network configuration is displayed. Step 15 Select Save. Step 16 Select Restart to re-initialize the eth0 interface and Note : The window may be blank for some time. Please be patient, as this is normal behavior. Once the re-initialization completes the following screen is displayed. Rev 1 39

Once the initial network configuration has been completed, the next step is to log into the User Interface (UI) and define the time and network settings. Configuring the Core Service Application Server DETAILED STEPS To configure the core services application server, complete the following: Step 1 Open an Internet Explorer or Where the IP address is the address of the device. 40 Rev 1

The Configuration Wizard is displayed. Rev 1 41

50 Configuring the VDS Core Management Services Node VDS Services Setup and Configuration Step 3 Assign the correct time to the node and click Save. Once the Time settings are saved successfully, the next step is to Configure the Appliance. Step 4 The Appliance configuration information is derived from the previous console configuration of this device. On the Core services node, ensure that the Deploy Management Services and Deploy Database options are selected. Within the Ping IP for 42 Rev 1

51 VDS Services Setup and Configuration Configuring the VDS Core Management Services Node All HA Clusters field, specify an ICMP ping reachable IP address, such as a default gateway. When finished, click Configure. You are prompted with the following popup. Step 5 Click Configure. If this has not been completed, please do so now. Also, this procedure uses the same configuration procedure as the Core Services node. Refer to the Configuring the VDS Core Management Services Node, on page 30 for screens and additional information that are generic to all configurations.
