5 B-64174EN/01 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 1.2 GENERAL WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS WARNING 1 Before operating the machine, thoroughly check the entered data. Operating the machine with incorrectly specified data may result in the machine behaving unexpectedly, possibly causing damage to the workpiece and/or machine itself, or injury to the user. 2 Never attempt to machine a workpiece without first checking the programmed value, compensation value, current position, and external signal settings. Also, never attempt to machine a workpiece without first checking the operation of the machine. Before starting a production run, ensure that the machine is operating correctly by performing a trial run using, for example, the single block, feedrate override, or machine lock function, or by operating the machine with neither a tool nor workpiece mounted. Failure to confirm the correct operation of the machine may result in the machine behaving unexpectedly, possibly causing damage to the workpiece and/or machine itself, or injury to the user. 3 Ensure that the specified feedrate is appropriate for the intended operation. Generally, for each machine, there is a maximum allowable feedrate. The appropriate feedrate varies with the intended operation. Refer to the manual provided with the machine to determine the maximum allowable feedrate. If a machine is run at other than the correct speed, it may behave unexpectedly, possibly causing damage to the workpiece and/or machine itself, or injury to the user. 4 When using a tool compensation function, thoroughly check the direction and amount of compensation. Operating the machine with incorrectly specified data may result in the machine behaving unexpectedly, possibly causing damage to the workpiece and/or machine itself, or injury to the user. 5 The parameters for the CNC and PMC are factory-set. Usually, there is no need to change them. When, however, there is no alternative other than to change a parameter, ensure that you fully Failure to set a parameter correctly may result in the machine behaving unexpectedly, possibly causing damage to the workpiece and/or machine itself, or injury to the user. s-3

6 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS B-64174EN/01 CAUTION 1 Immediately after switching on the power, do not touch any of the keys on the MDI panel until the position display or alarm screen appears on the CNC unit. Some of the keys on the MDI panel are dedicated to maintenance or other special operations. Pressing any of these keys may place the CNC unit in other than its normal state. Starting the machine in this state may cause it to behave unexpectedly. 2 The operator's manual describes all the basic functions of the CNC, including the optional functions. The selected optional functions vary with the machine. Some functions described in this manual may not, therefore, be supported by your machine. Check the machine specifications before using the machine. 3 Some machine operations and screen functions are implemented by the machine tool builder. For an explanation of their usage and related notes, refer to the manual provided by the machine tool builder. For example: - On some machines, executing a tool function causes the tool change unit to operate. When executing a tool function on such a machine, stand well clear of the tool change unit. Otherwise, there is a danger of injury to the operator. - Many auxiliary functions trigger physical operations, such as rotation of the spindle. Before attempting to use an auxiliary function, therefore, ensure that you are fully aware of the operation to be triggered by that function. NOTE Command programs, parameters, and variables are stored in nonvolatile memory in the CNC. Generally, the contents of memory are not lost by a power on/off operation. However, the contents of memory may be erased by mistake, or important data in nonvolatile memory may have to be erased upon recovering from a failure. To enable the restoration of data as soon as possible if such a situation arises, always make a backup of the data in advance. s-4

7 B-64174EN/01 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 1.3 NOTES ON USING THE PROFIBUS SETTING TOOL Address allocation to the PMC CAUTION Note the following when allocating addresses related to DI/DO data, diagnosis data, and the operation mode to the PMC: (1) Ensure that the DI data area, DO data area, diagnostic data area, and operation mode display area do not overlap each other. (2) Ensure that no allocated areas overlap an area used for a ladder program on the CNC side. s-5

132 1 GENERAL This chapter outlines the CNC setting tool. Function Overview This tool consists of two applications, namely, CNC setting tool and the file management function. CNC Setting Tool This tool is used to display and edit a parameter file. This tool is to be started from the file management function. File management function (1) Parameter management This function manages parameter files operated by CNC setting tool. A parameter file can also be copied or deleted. (2) Sets a parameter file to CNC / Gets a parameter file from CNC Ethernet or memory card are used for the transmission of a parameter file between CNC and a personal computer. CNC Setting Tool has following functions. Display and edit of a parameter file There are two method in displaying a parameter. (1) All parameter list All parameters are displayed in order. (2) Function Setting Parameters are displayed in the classification of the CNC function. When a parameter is selected, the value and the explanation of it is displayed. As for the parameters whose range has been defined, the range will be checked when it is changed. Display of a master file and a difference This tool has function of displaying the value of master file and the difference between a master file and a edit file. 133 CNC Setting - Display and modification of parameter file - Comparison between two parameter files Transmission of a Parameter file between the CNC and the personal computer - Memory Card - Ethernet CNC NOTE - This tool does not have function to create a new parameter file. You can get a parameter file from CNC, edit the file, and then set it up to CNC. - What this tool changes is the value of a parameter file on a personal computer. Even if CNC is connected via Ethernet, it is not supported to show the current value of CNC and to change the value of CNC parameter directly. Supported CNC About Parameter File The supported type of CNC is as follows. FANUC Series 30i / 300i Model-A FANUC Series 31i / 310i Model-A FANUC Series 32i / 320i Model-A If Ethernet is used for the transmission of a CNC parameter file, Ethernet function (Embedded Ethernet or Ethernet board) is necessary for CNC. This tool corresponds to three types of line end characters in a parameter file, LF, CR LF and LF CR CR. When you change the value of a file and save it, line end characters are kept. (The same line end characters are used when the file is saved.) When you set CNC parameter No.10#1 as 1, CNC does not output the parameter whose value is zero. Parameter files punched by this setting are not supported by this tool. With the multi-path CNC, select the path 1 before the transmission of CNC parameter.
