3 2 Abstract This document shows an example of how to use the connectblue Serial Adapter Toolbox for configuration of the connectblue wireless LAN serial port adapter modules. This document is applicable for the following modules: cb-ows451 cb-owspa311g After completing this toolbox example guide the wireless LAN serial port adapter shall: Connect to a wireless network Use DHCP to acquire IP address, netmask, and gateway Create a peer to a remote TCP service located on the remote server The network view is given below. 3 Related documents 4 Guide Wireless LAN serial port adapter AT commands contains detailed descriptions of all commands. 4.1 Toolbox startup Start the connectblue Serial Port Adapter Toolbox application. It can be found after installation under start->all Programs->connectBlue->Serial Port Adapter Toolbox. Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 3 of 11

4 At startup it required to select product family. Select the Wireless LAN SPA alternative and click OK. 4.2 Main window After startup the controls of the toolbox are disabled and it is not connected to any target. Connect to a target by pressing the "Connect" button and select the serial properties at the presented dialog. Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 4 of 11

5 Click "OK" when done. The "Default" button will reset your selection to default settings of 57600,8,n,1,flow. 4.3 Enter and exit command mode To alter settings of the wireless LAN serial port adapter it has to be in command mode. Enter command mode by pressing the "AT Mode" button. After the Toolbox has set the wireless LAN serial port adapter in AT command mode it issues a few commands automatically. The module is now in AT command mode and can be configured. Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 5 of 11

6 4.4 Reset to factory defaults To get the wireless LAN serial port adapter in a defined state we will reset all its settings to the factory defaults. There is no button in the toolbox that handles this reset so it has to be manually done using the console window. Select the Console Window by clicking. Enter "at&f" and press enter to reset the device to factory defaults. The module responds with "OK". After entering a manual command in the console window it is needed to update the toolbox values. Press "Read All" button. The toolbox now re-reads all values. 4.5 Link layer / scan for access point First we scan for wireless networks to connect to. Press "Scan" button in the "Link" tab. The module will scan for all available access points and populate the drop down box next to the scan button. Use the drop down box to select the access point to use. In this example we use an access point with a SSID of "cb-rssi-test". Other link level parameters such as encryption and authentication will be filled with values Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 6 of 11

7 corresponding to the settings of the selected access point. Commit the settings made on the Link tab by pressing "Write" button. 4.6 Network settings In this example the wireless LAN serial port adapter will acquire IP settings from a DHCP server on the remote LAN. Switch to the "Network" tab. Select "Client" among the DHCP settings. Press "Write" to commit the changes. 4.7 Remote peers Switch to "Client" tab and define a remote peer. Clients are named according to normal URI syntax similar to web addresses etc. In this example a TCP service is defined in the remote LAN at port We will define one (1) remote peer and thus we set "No Remote Peers" to "1". Please note : the given number of remote peers defines how many remote peers that are defined using AT*ADWDRP. Incoming connections created by the TCP or UDP listeners are to not be included. 8 To define remote peer enter data in "Remote Peer" Select index "0" Give an address. In this example for the remote TCP service. tcp:// :5003 Select the "Always connected" connection scheme. Press "Write" to commit the settings. 4.8 Extras Normally we are now ready. However, in this example we will set a feature to let the wireless LAN serial port adapter keep remote peers and the network even if we request to enter AT command mode. Normally the module drops the wireless connection, and thus also releases the DHCP lease, before entering AT mode. Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 8 of 11

9 Check the "Keep Remote Peers when Entering AT Mode" and press "Write" to commit the changes. 4.9 Testing Time to test. Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 9 of 11

10 Exit AT command mode and reset the module by check "Reset Module Going To Data Mode" and then press "Data Mode". Wait until connection is complete as indicated by the blue LED. The module is now connected to the access point, has obtained an IP, and connected to the remote service at port DHCP test Enter AT mode again. This time the module will keep the wireless LAN connection. Switch to "Network" tab and press "Read" button. Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 10 of 11

11 The IP address, Netmask, and Gateway fields shows the acquired values. Also DNS information has been updated if this is available from the DHCP server. If you go back to data mode don t forget to un-check "Reset Module Going To Data Mode". Copyright 2013 connectblue AB Page 11 of 11
