16 ILMT 9.0 Installation elements DB2 DB2 that is used exclusively for ILMT purposes is free of charge Currently, DB2 on Linux is a required DBMS for ILMT 9.0 Two versions of DB2 are supported by ILMT 9.0: 10.5 and 10.1 with at least fix pack 2 Users can install new version of DB2 or reuse the existed one DB is shipped in ILMT packages in two versions: GA in IBM Endpoint Manager Platform Install V9.1.0 for Linux and DB2 Multilingual (CITM6ML) Fix pack 2 in IBM DB2 Workgroup Server Edition - Restricted Use V10.5 for Linux on AMD64 and Intel EM64T systems (x64) Multilingual (CIKF2ML) Version 10.5 with FP2 is recommended When using those packages, DB2 can be installed in silent mode, interactively or transparently by IEM installer 16

17 ILMT 9.0 Installation elements IEM server IBM Endpoint Manager server is the central element in the IEM infrastructure It is responsible for coordinating the whole work It can be installed on Linux as well as on Windows It uses DB2 or MsSQL as the database management system f/c_installing_iem_platform.html ios.html 17

18 ILMT 9.0 Installation elements IEM relay IBM Endpoint Manager relays are used to share the IEM server load There can be dozens or even hundreds of relays in the IEM infrastructure Relays may build a hierarchy Typically, a relay is deployed for every computers A dedicated port (52311 by default) is used for HTTP communication between servers, relays, and clients The IBM Endpoint Manager relays can also take advantage of a UDP port to alert the clients about updates Relays in the DMZ allow clients in the DMZ or on the public Internet to be managed by IBM Endpoint Manager Typically, more than one relay should be installed. If a relay fails for any reason, its attached clients can then automatically switch over to a different relay arios.html 18

19 ILMT 9.0 Installation elements IEM console IBM Endpoint Manager console is an installable package for Windows with the size of ~36MB The console is used for user interaction with the IEM server The installation package is setup.exe file By default, the package is available after the IEM server installation under: /var/opt/besinstallers/console C:\Program Files\BigFix Enterprise\BES Console It might be installed on the same machine as the IEM server or on a different one More than one IEM console may work for the same IEM server A dedicated port (52311 by default) is used for HTTPS communications between servers and consoles stalling_iem_platform.html 19

20 ILMT 9.0 Installation elements IEM clients The IBM Endpoint Manager Clients are typically PCs, workstations, servers, laptops, and more IEM client should be installed on every computer in the network that needs to be administered This allows the targeted computers to receive important Fixlets to perform operations such as upgrades or software and capacity scans A dedicated port (52311 by default) is used for HTTP communication between servers, relays and clients ts.html 20

To appropriately measure the utilization of processor cores for subcapacity, additional clients should be installed in Global zones corresponding to local zones for Solaris Control domains corresponding to guest domains for Solaris HPVM (HP Integrity Virtual Machines) host corresponding to HPVM guest operating system for HP-UX There are a few possibilities to install a client Using the Client Deploy Tool Using Agent Deployment Wizard (stand-alone) Installing the client manually Installing the client with MSI Using Software Distribution Tools Using Group Policies Using Login Scripts Binaries for all IEM 9.1 clients and IEM legacy clients can be downloaded from the Internet ts.html ng%20agents 21

22 ILMT 9.0 Installation elements IBM License Metric Tool There is no separate package for IBM License Metric Tool in version 9.0 available on Passport Advantage After installing the IEM server and authorizing to the ILMT site, a special fixlet for extracting the ILMT server will appear After choosing a computer, the server installation package will be deployed there Installation of the ILMT server is a manual task that everyone must do either in silent mode or by using a graphical installation wizard Prior to deploying ILMT, DB2 must be already installed as the installer also creates its own database 22

An integral part of the ILMT server is a web user interface that is accessible via a web browser at: ILMT fixlets for IEM clients are available at the fixlet server IEM 9.1 clients platform coverage differs from ILMT 9.0 platform coverage for subcapacity licensing ILMT has precedence here If there is no IEM 9.1 client for a particular operating system, you should find a legacy IEM client,e.g. IEM 9.0 for AIX

25 ILMT 9.0 Installation guideline IBM Endpoint Manager was designed to have an easy access to the Internet Some installation steps need such communication For machines without the Internet connection the installation requires running additional tools such as airgap and download cacher to simulate the Internet access Lack of web access significantly increases the complexity of the installation process The complete set of movies showing step-by-step installation of ILMT 9.0 in environment with no Internet access are available on the ILMT YouTube channel (link at the bottom) 25

26 ILMT 9.0 Installation Without access to the Internet Obtain IBM License Metric Tool authorization file Order, download and unpack IEM package for ILMT Run the IEM installation Use the authorization file Create a BES License Request file Submit a BES license request BigFix: Choose to install DB2 automatically DB2 and IEM server together with its database have been installed Download IEM console from server s files e.g. /var/opt/besinstallers/setup.exe Place binaries on a Windows machine and run the installation. IEM console has been installed Run Airgap to have BigFix Management button in IEM console Open IEM console and accept ILMT license In the console, subscribe all computers to IBM License Reporting Run Airgap to have ILMT fixlets Run Download cacher to have all ILMT content including server binaries Open IEM console and run fixlet to send ILMT server to the chosen endpoint Run ILMT installation from e.g. /root/ieminstaller ILMT server has been installed Run ILMT database installation from e.g. Database for ILMT server has been installed Download Airgap 1st IEM console IEM server, database and DB2 Airgap 2nd IEM console configuration ILMT server Download cacher ILMT database 26 Authorization file: BES License Request Handler:
