1 PCLaw TE for BlackBerry Handhelds The PCLaw TE module provides access to your matters and contacts while you are away from the office. You can create time or fee entries, expense recovery entries, and appointments or to-dos. You can also modify existing appointments that are transferred to the handheld during synchronization. PCLaw TE runs on the following operating systems: Palm III (or higher) Pocket PC 2002 or 2003 BlackBerry 4.0 (or higher). Every effort is made to test our products thoroughly, however, as new operating systems and new models are developed, not all handhelds are backwards compatible. This document assists you with configuring settings in PCLaw as well as configuring and using PCLaw TE on the BlackBerry handheld. Requirements With the following requirements, we assume that the device is functioning properly and is able to synchronize successfully. Additionally, we recommend you install the latest version of PCLaw prior to performing the procedures outlined in this document. BlackBerry Device Manager version 4.0 or higher BlackBerry Desktop Redirector or BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 or higher PCLaw version 7.60b or higher.

2 Pre-Requisite Procedure To allow any third-party software to access the PCLaw database, complete the following procedure in PCLaw: 1. On the pull-down menu, select Connection Settings. The Connection Settings window appears. 2. If the Use this Set of Books when Connecting with Other Programs check box is already selected, continue to step 3. or If this check box is not selected, proceed to step You are not required to make any modifications. To confirm your settings, click OK. 4. Select the Use this Set of Books when Connecting with Other Programs check box. De-select all remaining check boxes. 5. Click the Outlook tab. De-select all check boxes. 6. To save your settings, click OK. Installing PCLaw TE To install PCLaw TE, follow this procedure: 1. If you are installing from the PCLaw CD, select Install Remote Computing Modules. To start the installation, select PCLaw TE. or If you are installing from the downloaded file, double-click PCLawTE.EXE. The Welcome screen appears: 2. Click I Accept. The Product Key window appears: PCLaw TE for BlackBerry Handhelds Page 2 of 9

3 3. Enter the product key provided to you or contact PCLaw Technical Support for your key. The Select Destination window appears: 4. To continue the installation, click Next. The Start Installation window appears: 5. To start the installation process, click Next. The installation continues. After the installation completes, the Configure Module window appears: 6. To configure the PCLaw TE module, click Continue and proceed to Configuring PCLaw TE. or To configure the PCLaw TE module at a later time, click Finished. You can access the PCLaw TE Configuration Utility from within PCLaw (Tools > PCLaw TE Configuration Utility) or the Windows Start menu (Start > Programs > LexisNexis PCLaw > PCLaw TE Configuration). Proceed to Licensing a User on page 6 to continue your configuration at a later time. PCLaw TE for BlackBerry Handhelds Page 3 of 9

4 Configuring PCLaw TE If you selected to Continue when installing the PCLaw TE module, the Select User window appears: 1. On the drop-down menu, select the correct ID for the handheld you want licensed. Select the License the user check box. The Setup PCLaw TE Defaults button becomes available. To continue to the configuration utility, click Setup PCLaw TE Defaults. The PCLaw TE Configuration Utility opens: Select the default choices for all time and expense entries transferring to PCLaw. 2. Click the Calendar/Contacts tab. If you do not want to synchronize appointments and to-dos and contacts, deselect Transfer Calendar Events and Associated Contacts. Otherwise, leave the check box selected. In Contact Selections, choose the options that give you the contacts you want on your handheld device. PCLaw TE for BlackBerry Handhelds Page 4 of 9

5 3. Click the Matters tab. The following window appears: To define which matters are copied from PCLaw to the handheld, use the available selections to filter your results. To have all matters transferred to the handheld device, leave the default selections unchanged. 4. Click the Synchronization tab. If this is the first time you are synchronizing PCLaw TE, select all check boxes. If PCLaw TE has been previously configured, select or deselect the check boxes, to help minimize the amount of time required to synchronize PCLaw data. 5. Click OK. You are now ready to synchronize your PCLaw data to the handheld. PCLaw TE for BlackBerry Handhelds Page 5 of 9

6 Licensing a User During the installation, if you selected to configure PCLaw TE at a later time or to license additional users: 1. Access the PCLaw TE Configuration Utility from within PCLaw (Tools > PCLaw TE Configuration Utility) or the Windows Start menu (Start > Programs > LexisNexis PCLaw > PCLaw TE Configuration). The PCLaw TE Configuration Utility window appears: 2. Click License a User. The License a User window appears: 3. On the drop-down menu, select the user you want to license. Click License. You are returned to the PCLaw TE Configuration Utility screen. 4. On the PCLaw TE Configuration Utility screen, click Setup PCLaw TE Defaults. To complete the setup for the user, proceed to step 3 of Configuring PCLaw TE. Removing a User License To remove a user license, contact the LexisNexis PCLaw Technical Support department to obtain an access code. You will be asked to provide the values displayed on the PCLaw TE prompt that appears in step 3 of this procedure. 1. On the PCLaw TE Configuration Utility window, click Remove a User License. The Remove a User window appears: 2. From the list provided on the Remove a User screen, select the user you wish to remove. 3. Click Remove. The PCLaw TE prompt appears. 4. 7 Synchronizing the PCLaw TE Application To begin this procedure, the handheld should be connected to the cable/cradle. 1. Open the Blackberry Desktop Manager. The Blackberry Desktop Manager window opens: 2. To start the Application Loader, double-click the Application Loader icon. The Application Loader Wizard window appears. 3. Click Next. The Device Application Selection window appears: 4. Click Add. In the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files, doubleclick PCLawTE.ALX. 5. On the Device Application Selection window, select the PCLaw T/E check box. Click Next. The Completing the Application Loader Wizard window appears: 6. To install the PCLaw TE module, click Finish. 8 Synchronizing PCLaw Data After the application is installed on the handheld, you are ready to copy your PCLaw data to the device. 1. On the Blackberry Desktop Manager, double-click the Intellisync icon. The Intellisync window appears: 2. Ensure the Synchronize PIM and Execute Add-in actions check boxes are selected. 3. To update your handheld with PCLaw TE data, click the Configure Add-ins button. The Add-in Module Configuration window appears: Select the PCLaw T/E Sync check box. Click OK. 4. On the Intellisync window, click Synchronize Now. The Intellisync Progress window appears: After the synchronization process is complete, you are returned to the Intellisync window. 5. 9 Navigating in PCLaw TE The following guide helps you navigate and select PCLaw TE features: To select or access Pop-Up Help lists, click the Trackwheel. To move between items on the screen or in the list, roll the Trackwheel. To cancel the current action or step backwards, press the Escape button. The first time you open PCLaw TE on the handheld, the Welcome to PCLaw TE window appears: 1. To continue, click the Trackwheel. A Select List appears. 2. Highlight the feature you want to open. To select the feature, click the Trackwheel. PCLaw TE Feature List If you select from this initial Select List, the Welcome to PCLaw TE window appears the next time you access PCLaw TE. Once a feature is selected, the Welcome screen no longer appears. The feature that was open when PCLaw TE exits determines the feature that appears the next time PCLaw TE is accessed on the handheld.
