Abstract CA Clarity PPM v12 it the latest and greatest major release of our flagship product. We will discuss what is involved in upgrading from previous versions to the latest 12.0 service pack. We will cover what has changed about the process to make it shorter and simpler, and discuss potential pitfalls along the way. If you are running Clarity PPM 7 or 8 today, this is the session for you. > Agenda Why upgrade What to expect Tools at your disposal Questions and Answers 4 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
The Past > Clarity was released in May Last Fix Pack release was 7.5.3_FP08 in August End of Life was July > Clarity was released in August 2007 Changed to Service Packs with 8.1 SP1 in July 2008 Latest Service Pack release was 8.1 SP5 in July 2009 Projected EOL is Fall October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
The Present > Clarity 12 Jumped version numbers to align CA releases 12.0 was released in November 2008 Latest Service Pack was 12.0 SP4 in September projected EOL is Spring October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Mile-high Perspective > Clarity 7 to 8 was a major shift for some customers. Data model refactoring. Replaced some core tables with views and migrated data. Enhanced core UI views that customers had configured. Moved from Orion to Tomcat, and Java 1.4 to 1.5. > Clarity 8 to 12 is a minor shift 8.1 SP2 and 12.0 nearly identical but for Requirement Planning, Sharepoint Integration and New Product Development Accelerator. Actuate & Business Object wrinkles have been ironed out. 7 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Facts > Continuous delivery Predictable service releases. Each release can improve upgrade experience. Notable: Summer 09 surge against long-standing customer reported defects. > Stable mechanics Service Packs: controlled changes, regular increments, simplified packaging and delivery for all customers. Hot Fix: surgical delivery for specific customers. 8 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
> Checklist 7.5 is no longer serviced. 8.1 is serviced but gets only some of the fixes and none of the improvements gets all of the fixes and all of the improvements. The upgrade improves with every release, and 12.0 is up to SP5. If you have been waiting for the wrinkles to be ironed out, wait no longer. 9 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA

Timing > It varies Depends on database size, features used, hardware capacity. Depends on your starting Clarity version to 12.0 takes the longest as there are multiple hops. 8.1 to 12.0 takes longer than 8.1 SP1 to 12.0 due to BO/Actuate and EV migration humps in 8.1 SP1. Upgrade performance and change impact improved in latest service packs. > We have thresholds Four hours is normal, 24 hours is unacceptable. 15 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA

Migrating to Business Objects with CA BI > Steps Install CA BI Upgrade to Clarity v12 Switch Report vendor in Clarity to Business Objects Re-run Reports Installation step > Results Actuate server can be uninstalled or left alone. Actuate reports no longer register in Clarity. 22 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Complications > Extensive configurations You need some views changes but you don t need all of them, at least not right away. > Extensive integrations Database schema can change. XOG interface can change, though backwards compatibility is almost always retained. > Customisation You are on your own. Be sure it is still needed and still works. 23 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
> Platform Dependence Consider simplified deployment over CIO standards > Missed expectations Communication, written or spoken, can fail. Even at user conferences. > Morals: Test what you ve changed out of the box is critical. Consider moving to standard functionality or Add-ins. 24 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Help Topics 2October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Self Help: Change and Impact Guide Clarity v12 Change Impact and Upgrade Guide Categorised listing of all functional changes Migration steps required to use new functionality. Excerpts: Default Administrator User Name If you changed the resource ID or user name for the administrator from the default setting of admin, you must change the resource ID and user name back to admin before upgrading to Clarity 8.1. PMA_IDEAS Table Migrated to New Investment Data Model During upgrade, existing data in the PMA_IDEAS table was migrated to the new investment data model using the mapping rules described in the following tables. Use these tables as a reference after data is migrated. 26 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Read The Manual Release Notes Companion to Change Impact and Upgrade Guide. More about what is new rather than how you are impacted. Installation and Upgrade Guide Always important to understand the required third-party software and normal install and upgrade steps. Technical Reference Manual Latest schema diagrams and definitions. Product Architecture Stack Supported third-party software with explicit versions, combinations and change history. 27 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
About Views Views migration can be time consuming New feature in Clarity adds a new Field, Section, or Portlet to a view. Do you want the change? Or do you want things to stay the same? Before you had to Go Object by Object drill-down to restore views or manually add new features. Now you can Read the Change and Impact Guide to read which views actually changed. Use the new Studio Views screen to show which views you need to deal with for your environment. 28 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA

Views Admin > Filtered list of all views across all Studio Objects Shows whether a View is: Personalised: configured by one or more end users Modified: configured by an administrator Upgraded: you have the latest version Click to: Publish selected on selected views Restore Defaults on selected views Drill into associated object Views admin screen. 30 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Wrap Up 3October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
Summary > Why upgrade? v12 is the most stable, most feature-rich Clarity release and it is free for customers on maintenance. Platforms, Add-Ins, new features, and attention. > What can I expect? Change and Impact Guide, Release Notes, standard documentation, CA Services and Partners. 32 October 13th, 2009 Upgrading to Clarity PPM v12 Copyright 2009 CA
