SnapManager for SharePoint Manager System Requirements SnapManager for SharePoint Manager consists of three services: Control Service, Media Service, and Report Service (only if running an evaluation version of DocAve Report Center). They can be run on the same server as your SnapManager for SharePoint Agent or split across several servers. For more information on SnapManager for SharePoint Manager services, see the Installing SnapManager for SharePoint section of this guide. While it is possible to have the SnapManager for SharePoint Manager and SnapManager for SharePoint Agent on a single server, it is not recommended. For the best performance, install the Manager s services across multiple servers, and ensure that the Manager is installed on servers NOT hosting IIS/SharePoint services. In addition, install only the necessary Agents on the Agent servers. Refer to these tables for the system requirements of each SnapManager for SharePoint Manager service: System Requirements for Control Service Installation System Requirements for Media Service Installation 14 IBM System Storage N series SnapManager 8.0 for Microsoft SharePoint Installation Guide

SnapManager for SharePoint Agent System Requirements SnapManager for SharePoint Agent has one service, the SnapManager for SharePoint Agent Service. A SnapManager for SharePoint Agent communicates with SharePoint based on the commands it receives from the SnapManager for SharePoint Manager s Control Service. Multiple Agent setups provide redundancy as well as scalability for large environments by allowing you to specify different accounts for different farms where multiple farms exist. The SnapManager for SharePoint Agent can be installed on different machines according to the role of the machine and the SnapManager for SharePoint modules and functionalities you wish to use. For more information on where to install the SnapManager for SharePoint Agents, refer to Where to Install SnapManager for SharePoint Agents. *Note: The use of system resources on a server increases when the installed Agent is performing actions. This may affect server performance. However, if the Agent installed on a server is not being used, the use of system resources is very low and, therefore, the effect on server performance is negligible. Refer to the N series interoperability matrix Website (accessed and navigated as described in Websites) for more information regarding which versions of IBM N series and Microsoft software can be used with SMSP. System Requirements for Agent Service Installation Rules Operating System Edition: Number of CPU Cores Windows Server 2008 SP2 Available Physical Memory Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Available Disk Space Windows Server 2012.NET Framework Version.Net Framework Features Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service PowerShell Version Requirements Recommended: 2 or greater Required: 256MB Recommended: 2 GB or greater Required: 1 GB or above.net Framework 3.5 SP1 or above For Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1: Windows.NET Framework must be installed. 23 SQL Server Requirements for SnapManager for SharePoint Databases Databases Control Database Report Database Auditor Database Stub Database SQL Server Edition For SnapManager 8.0 for SharePoint and later versions: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SharePoint Environment Requirements SnapManager 8 for SharePoint Agents can be installed and used in the following SharePoint environments: Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 with SP1 Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 with SP1 Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2013 *Note: The all-in-one installation of SharePoint on 64-bit operating systems uses the complete installation option, which installs everything including the SQL Server on a single machine. If you are using the SharePoint Stand-alone installation that uses the built-in SQL Server 2008 Express database (for SharePoint 2013, it is the built-in SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Express database), the Web application that uses the pre-defined Network Service account as the application pool security account is not supported by SnapManager for SharePoint since local users may be used to manage certain SharePoint components. IBM System Storage N series SnapManager 8.0 for Microsoft SharePoint Installation Guide 23

Overview of SnapManager for SharePoint Manager Service, Agent Service, and Control Service After installing all of the services including SnapManager for SharePoint Manager Services and SnapManager for SharePoint Agent Service properly, you are able to manage your SharePoint data via the SnapManager for SharePoint platform. The Control Service receives the request from SnapManager for SharePoint Manager, and then sends the request to Agent Services, which retrieve data from SharePoint. Agent Services transfer the SharePoint data to Media Services, where the data is integrated into a format that can only be identified by SnapManager for SharePoint. This data is then sent to the specified destination. Agent Services also retrieves data via the Media Service when transferring or restoring data to SharePoint. The Report Service records all of these actions (only if running an evaluation version of DocAve Report Center). The information is then used by SnapManager for SharePoint when generating reports. SnapManager for SharePoint Control Service and SnapManager for SharePoint Agent Service are required for all of the SnapManager for SharePoint products. SnapManager for SharePoint Media Service is required for the following SnapManager for SharePoint products: Platform Backup and Restore Archive Manager 24 IBM System Storage N series SnapManager 8.0 for Microsoft SharePoint Installation Guide

Determining Storage Space Needs The required storage space for content databases, indexes, and other storage requirements are unique to each SharePoint environment and must be estimated for each individual environment. You can assess the general volume size requirements for SnapManager for SharePoint in the same way as SnapManager for Microsoft SQL Server. For more information, see the section assessing volume size in the SnapManager for Microsoft SQL Server Installation and Administration Guide. You can find the guide on the IBM N series support Website (accessed and navigated as described in Websites). The general guidelines for sizing IBM N series volumes, storage devices, content databases, and indexes are described in the following table: Component Value Description Recommended Maximum Content Database Size 200 GB (SharePoint2010 and SharePoint 2013) This is not an absolute maximum size but a general recommendation for performance and scalability. Refer to the link below for the detailed information from Microsoft: For SharePoint 2010: Microsoft TechNet Library: Storage and SQL Server capacity planning and configuration (SharePoint Server 2010) For SharePoint 2013: Microsoft TechNet Library: Software boundaries and limits for SharePoint 2013 Maximum Number of Content Databases per Storage Device 500 This is not an absolute maximum value, but it is not recommended that you exceed this limitation. IBM System Storage N series SnapManager 8.0 for Microsoft SharePoint Installation Guide 25

Maximum Number of Content Databases per Volume 100 Every database located on an N series volume could potentially be backed up in a single backup operation. In this case, the SQL Server must still be able to manage all of the databases while they are being backed up. Each database that is being backed up requires SQL Server resources. A typical SQL Server might not be able to manage any more than 100 databases. See the SnapManager for Microsoft SQL Server Installation and Administration Guide for more information. The recommendations in the following rows are based on the information found in the following Microsoft articles: For SharePoint 2010: Microsoft TechNet Library: Performance and capacity technical case studies (SharePoint Server 2010) For SharePoint 2013: Microsoft TechNet Library: Capacity management and sizing overview for SharePoint Server 2013 Database Log Files Disk space needs for log files vary based on log settings and the number of databases. Recommended Maximum Configuration Database Size 1.5 GB Most configuration databases do not grow larger than this size. This is an estimated maximum size, not a boundary. 26 IBM System Storage N series SnapManager 8.0 for Microsoft SharePoint Installation Guide

Recommended Formula for Estimating Content Database Size Requirements Estimate the initial volume of content that will be stored in content databases. In SharePoint 2010 environment: The formula to use is Database size = ((D x V) x S) + (10 KB (L + (V x D))) D stands for number of documents. V stands for number of non-current versions. S stands for average size of documents. L stands for list items. The value of 10 KB in the formula is a constant that roughly estimates the amount of metadata required by SharePoint Server If your system requires significant use of metadata, you can increase this constant. Calculating Future Growth Data Storage Needs For SharePoint 2010 environment, refer to Microsoft TechNet Library: Performance and capacity technical case studies (SharePoint Server 2010) Content Index Server Recommended LUN Size Archive Index Server Recommended LUN Size In SharePoint 2010 environment, refer to Microsoft TechNet Library: Storage and SQL Server capacity planning and configuration (SharePoint Server 2010) Typically, archive indexes require 512 bytes per archived item. If full text index is enabled, add in the estimation of the content index server from above. IBM System Storage N series SnapManager 8.0 for Microsoft SharePoint Installation Guide 27
