1 Orbit Scanner Reprogramming and Testing The Orbit Scanner is used with Trax Attendance Manager to scan members, staff, and volunteers in and out of your organization. The Orbit Scanner may need to be reprogrammed if it will be used for a different location than it is currently being used for or if it loses its programming. Instructions for testing the scanner signal begin on page 8 of this document. NOTE: If using a data hub, make sure to unplug all scanners other than the scanner that is being reprogrammed. The Autoset2 program will program ALL scanners that are physically connected to the data hub. Trax Attendance Manager must be closed when programming a scanner or checking a scanner signal. Orbit scanners can only be programmed if connected directly to a 9-pin serial (COM) port. Install AutoSet2 NOTE: Contact nfocus Solutions Client Support if your operating system is Windows Vista or 7. AutoSet2 is not always compatible with Windows Vista or 7. Access the link: Select Open on download window Select Yes to install Autoset2 when download is complete

2 Select Next on welcome window Select Next on destination location window Select Finish when installation is complete

3 Download Ports Create a new folder named Ports on computer desktop Access the link: Select Open on download window Select Browse when download is complete

4 Browse to Ports folder and select OK Select Unzip Select OK when file has unzipped successfully Select Close on self-extractor window

5 Program Scanner Go to Start Programs Autoset2 Autoset2 Check box to the left of COM port to which scanner is physically connected (NOTE: Orbit scanners can only be programmed if connected directly to a 9-pin serial (COM) port) Select Open File

6 Browse to Ports folder Select All Files in file type dropdown

7 Double-click on port number that Orbit should scan as (the number in file name signifies which scanner it will be programmed to) Select Start Programming The Orbit scanner was successfully programmed when two green check marks appear and the download progress bar completes (NOTE: The Orbit scanner will also beep twice) If you receive an OCX error, then print and scan the bar code from page 11 of the following document: and start again. 8 Verify Scanner Signal with HyperTerminal (Windows XP) NOTE: Please see next section to test signal with Windows Vista or 7. Go to Start Run Type hypertrm in Open field and select OK to open HyperTerminal Type test (or anything else) in Name field and select OK

9 Choose the COM port that the Orbit scanner is physically connected to and select OK Change Bits per second to 9600 and Flow control to Xon / Xoff and select OK Scan an ID and a string similar to the one below should appear in the HyperTerminal window where: (1) the 3 rd and 4 th characters are the scanner number (the scanner is programmed as #1 in the example below), (2) the 9 th through 12 th characters after the arrow are the club code, (3) the last 5 characters are the KidTrax ID number Some incorrect strings might be similar to K , have a single character, or have random characters

10 HyperTerminal must be closed to auto scan with Trax Attendance Manager; Select File Exit Select Yes to disconnect Select No when prompted to save connection

11 Verify Scanner Signal with PuTTY (Windows Vista or 7) Access the link: Scroll down and select putty.exe link Select Run on any download or security windows When PuTTY Configuration windows opens, select Serial button in the Connection Type section

12 Enter the COM port that the Orbit scanner is physically connected to Select Open

13 The PuTTY terminal window will open Scan an ID and a string similar to the one below should appear in the PuTTY terminal window where: (1) the 3 rd and 4 th characters are the scanner number (the scanner is programmed as #1 in the example below), (2) the 9 th through 12 th characters after the arrow are the club code, (3) the last 5 characters are the KidTrax ID number Some incorrect strings might be similar to K , have a single character, or have random characters
