5 1. Getting ready 1.1 System requirements The following operating environment is required in order to use the network interface. 7 PHONE1 PHONE2 LINE 2. Installation 2.1 Cable connection To connect the machine to an Ethernet network, a LAN cable (twist pair cable with RJ-45 type modular connector) is required. (A LAN cable is not included with this kit.) 1 Turn your machine off. 2 Plug one end of the 10Base-T/100Base-TX LAN cable (category 5) into the LAN connector on the left side of the machine. LINK lamp: Illuminates when connected to the LAN. LAN Connector ACTIVITY lamp: Blinks when there is data traffic on the LAN. Connect to the Ethernet hub. LAN cable: 10Base-T/100Base-TX cable RJ-45 connector 3 Plug the other end of the LAN cable into the 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet hub. 4 Turn your machine on. 2-1

9 2.3 About the printer drivers The following drivers are provided to utilize your machine as a network device: Print Driver Installing the print driver allows you to use your machine as a printer. Fax Driver Installing the fax driver allows you to send a fax directly from your desktop. Imagistics TiffMaker Installing the TIFF Make allows you to turn any document into Tagged Image File Format(TIFF) image. 2-3

10 2.4 Installing the driver NOTE: For Windows Vista/Server 2003/XP/2000/NT4.0, you need to log on as an administrator to install the driver. 1 Turn on your PC and insert the supplied CD into your CD-ROM drive. NOTE: For Windows Vista users: 1. If the AutoPlay dialog box appears, click [Run Setup.exe]. 2. When the User Account Control dialog box appears, click [Allow] to allow the driver software installation. The driver installation window will appear automatically. If not, run the setup.exe located on the root directory of the supplied CD-ROM. 2 Click [Next] when the following window appears. 2-4

11 3 After reading and accepting the License Agreement click [Yes]. Otherwise, click [No] to cancel the installation. 4 Select your machine, then click [Next]. 5 Select Network, then click [Next]. NOTE: Local connection is not available for this machine. 2-5

12 6 Select the items to install and click [Next].] 7 The following window appears. Click [OK]. 8 When the Server Search window appears, enter the machine s IP address using the numeric keypad. NOTE: The IP address entered here is used for creating the LPR for the printer. Make sure that the IP address entered here matches the address on the machine. 2-6

13 NOTE: Even if you do not know the machine s IP address, you can find it by clicking [Search]. In Windows Vista and Windows XP (Service Pack 2), when the Windows Security Alert window appears, click [Unblock]. (Windows Vista) (Windows XP SP2) Select an IP address of your Océ Imagistics GDI printer, then click [OK]. 2-7

14 9 Click [OK], when the IP Address has been entered. 10 Confirm the displayed contents and click [Next]. 11 Restart the PC to finish installation. 2-8

15 2.4.1 Activating the optional devices If an optional device(s) has been installed on your machine, open the printer properties window and activate it. To activate the optional device(s): 1 Click [Start] > [Settings] > [Printers]. In Windows Vista, click [Start] > [Control Panel] > [Hardware and Sound] > [Printers]. In Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003, click [Start] > [Printers and Faxes]. In Windows XP Home Edition,, click [Start] > [Printers and Other Hardware] > [Printers and Faxes]. 2 Right-click the printer icon for your printer, and then click [Properties] (Windows 95/98/Me), or [Printing Preferences...] (Windows NT4.0/2000/ XP/Server 2003/Vista). 3 Click the Device Option tab. 4 Select the optional device installed on your machine. 5 Click [OK] and close the printer properties. 2-9

16 2.5 Uninstalling the driver NOTE: You must uninstall if the driver installation fails. For Windows Vista/Server 2003/XP/2000/NT4.0, you need to log on as an administrator to uninstall the driver. For Windows Vista 1 Click [Start] > [Control Panel] > [Programs]. 2 Click [Program and Features]. 3 Select the Imagistics GDI printer Driver for sx1480/fx2080 and then click [Uninstall]. When the User Account Control window appears, type an administrator password or provide confirmation. The Printer/Scanner Maintenance Program window will appear. 4 Click [Delete] and follow the instructions that appear on the window. For Windows XP / Windows Server Click [Start] g [Control Panel] g [Add or Remove Programs]. 2 Click [Change or Remove Programs]. 3 Select the Imagistics GDI Printer Driver for sx1480/fx2080 and then click [Remove]. The Printer/Scanner Maintenance Program window will appear. 4 Click [Delete]. Then follow the instructions that appear on the window. For Windows 2000 Professional 1 Click [Start] g [Settings] g [Control Panel] g [Add/Remove Programs]. 2 Click the [Change or Remove Programs]. 3 Select the Imagistics GDI printer Driver for sx1480/fx2080 and then click [Change/Remove]. The Printer/Scanner Maintenance Program window will appear. 4 Click [Delete]. Then follow the instructions that appear on the window. 2-10

Configuring printer driver settings 3.1 Open the printer properties There are two ways to open the printer properties: From an application software From the Printers folder NOTE: When you change the printer properties from an application software, the settings will be available only for the current print job. To change the printer default settings, change them from the Printers folder. This change can affect every user who shares the same printer From an application software Opening the printer properties window varies by application software. See your application software user s manual for assistance. The following example utilizes Microsoft Notepad on Windows XP. 1 Select Print from the File menu. 2 The Print dialog box will appear. In the Select Printer field, select the Imagistics fx2080 GDI, then click [Properties]. 3 The printer properties window will appear. For details of the printer driver settings, please see pages 3-2 to From the Printers folder NOTE: For Windows Vista/Server 2003/XP/2000/NT4.0, you need to log on as an administrator to change printer default settings. 1 Click [Start] g [Settings] g [Printers]. 19 3.2 Common operations This section describes settings and buttons that are common to the Paper and Page Layout tabs. [OK] Click this button to exit the Properties dialog box and apply all settings you changed. [Cancel] Click this button to exit the Properties dialog box without applying any changes. [Apply] Click this button to apply all settings you changed without exiting the Properties dialog box. [Help] Click this button to display the help window. [Default] Click this button to restore all of the settings on the currently displayed tab to their initial defaults. q Page Layout The Page Layout image shows what the printed document will look like using the current printer driver settings. The Page Layout image changes as you select different settings. 3-2

20 3.3 Paper tab The Paper tab is used for setting paper destination and printing Zoom You can zoom (enlarging and scaling-down) data two ways: NOTE: Zoom settings are not available whenever the Combine setting on the Page Layout tab is active. q Fit to Paper Choose this option to scale your print job to any selected paper size regardless of the logical document size. If you want your document to be fitted to the selected paper size, check on Scale to fit. NOTE: When Scaling is set for other than 100% or the same paper size as Paper size is selected, Scale to fit is not available. q Scaling(%) Copies You can enlarge or reduce the document in 1% increments, from 25% to 400%. NOTE: Scaling (%) is not available when Fit to paper is selected. Specifies the number of copies for printing, ranging from 1 to Toner Saving Selecting toner save to [ON] will reduce toner consumption but will effect the output quality. 3-3

21 3.3.4 Density Setting Specify the density level between -50 and +50. When setting +50 outputs are the darkest, and conversely when setting -50 they are the lightest Paper Size Select the paper size from the drop down list, which shows the paper supported in the printer driver s current setting. Paper sizes shown on the drop down list are limited by the Paper Source and Combine settings. If you cannot find the desired size in the list, change the paper source. q Orientation Portrait orients the print vertically and Landscape orients the print horizontally. q Resolution Select either dpi or dpi as the printing resolution. NOTE: provides better quality, but it also takes longer to print at this setting than at q Edit Custom Click this button when you want to add, change or delete your custom paper size. You can add up to 50 custom paper sizes. NOTE: The Edit Custom is not available when either of the following conditions exists. The Paper Source setting is anything other than Bypass Tray or Auto The Combine setting on the Paper Layout tab is active. 3-4

22 To add a custom paper size: 1. Click Edit Custom. 2. Click Add. 3. Enter a name that identifies the custom paper. You can enter up to 20 characters. 4. Specifies the width and length of your custom paper size. 5. Click OK. To delete a custom paper size: 1. Select the size that you want to delete. 2. Click Delete Paper Source Specifies paper cassette or bypass tray for printing Paper Type Sort Select the paper type to be used for printing. If paper cassette is selected in the Paper Source box, the paper type setting cannot be changed. When you select On to enable Sort, multi-page jobs will be printed in collated sets. When Off is selected, documents will be printed on a page-bypage basis. 3-5

23 3.4 Page Layout tab The Page Layout tab contains settings for Combine and Booklet Combine Multiple pages can be printed on one page, thus reducing paper consumption. Select the number of document pages that should be printed on each sheet of paper. Selecting Off will print documents normally. NOTE: The Combine settings are not available when either of the following conditions exists. The Fit to Paper on the Paper tab is selected. The Scaling setting on the Paper tab is anything other than 100%. Once the Combine is set, the scaling will be determined automatically and cannot be changed manually. q Print Separator Line Select this option to print a separator line between each combined image, thus improving the readability of combined documents. q Detail of Combine Click this button to open the Detail of Combine dialogue in which you can specify the printing order of combined pages on the paper. 3-6

24 3.4.2 Duplex The duplex print unit must be installed in order to utilize this feature. q Two-sided printing You can print on both sides of the paper. The binding position must be specified for duplex printing. To unify the orientation of both sides (book), select Left Binding or Right Binding. To reverse the orientation (flipchart), select Upper Binding. q Setting of Duplex Select this button to adjust the binding margin Booklet The duplex print unit must be installed in order to utilize this feature. You can print several pages to form a booklet, when the paper is half center folded and overlapped. To set up the Booklet function, check the box for Print On Both Side and select 2-up for Combine. q Booklet Printing The binding position can be set for a booklet. The binding position you specify is dependent on the print orientation specified in Orientation under the Paper tab. If Portrait is selected, Left or Right can be specified for the binding position, and if Landscape is selected, Upper or Lower can be specified. 3-7

25 3.5 Device Option tab Click the devices installed on your machine Installed Options Check the Duplex Unit box. When the second option cassette is also installed, check the box in the printer driver so that the driver knows the option is available. 3-8

26 4. Cancelling a print job 4.1 Canceling a job from the PC The following is an example using Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Operation could vary depending on your Windows version. 1 Click [Start] g [Printers and Faxes]. 2 Double click the Imagistics fx2080 GDI. The print queue is displayed. 3 Right-click the name of the document you wish to cancel. Then select Cancel from the pop-up menu. You can cancel a print job by pressing the Delete key on the computer s keyboard after selecting the document name. 4-1

27 4.2 Canceling a job from the machine When your machine is printing a job from the PC, the Online light will blink If you want to cancel the current print job, follow the instructions below: 1 Press [Online]. The machine will show the following message: 2 To cancel the current print job, press [Yes]. If you do not wish to cancel the current print job, press [No]. 4-2

PC fax 5.1 Sending a PC fax You can send documents directly from a popular PC application to a remote fax machine or locations Sending a PC fax 1 Start the desired application program and create/open a document. 2 Click [Print] from the File menu. Make sure that Imagistics fx2080 Fax is selected as the printer. 3 Click [Print]. The Fax Transmission Settings dialog will appear. NOTE: To display the Fax Transmission Settings, a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer should be installed on your computer. A B C D E F 5-1

29 A B C D E F Item Enter the fax number and click [Add]. To select a destination from the machine or search a destination from the LDAP server, click [Address Book] to open it. See pages 5-4 and 5-5 for information of these functions. Enter the address and click [Add]. Use the pull-down menu (located next to the box) to select To, Cc or Bcc. To select a destination from the machine or search a destination from the LDAP server, click [Address Book] to open it. See pages 5-4 and 5-5 for information of these functions. To attach a text message to the , click [Edit Template]. To enter the message: (1) Place the cursor in Subject field and enter the subject. You can enter up to 50 characters. (2) Place the cursor in the Text field and enter a short message. (3) Click [Save]. Select the file format. PDF A file format used by an application called Acrobat, from Adobe Systems. Converting files to PDF format allows them to be electronically distributed to recipients regardless of their computer platform or environment. Also, the original image can be rendered without any corruption of the document s layout. TIFF-S TIFF-S is a TIFF file complying with the T.37 simple mode specification. T. 37 is a standard for Internet fax. Documents sent with simple mode format can also be received with other Internet faxing standards. TIFF A graphical image file format. Image resolution or color depth for an image and different encoding algorithms can be saved into a single file. Select whether to attach a cover page or not. Click [Set Advanced Features] to use the advanced functions. F-Code To perform an F-Code transmission, enter the Sub-Address and Password here. See the Users Guide for more information regarding F-Code transmissions. Start Time To perform a delayed transmission, click [Set Date and Time] and set the time at which you want the document to be sent. Click [Save] to save the setting. Fax Sender Select the fax sender s name from the pull-down menu.. 5-2

30 4 To confirm or delete a destination, click [Address Book]. To delete a destination, select the box next to the name you want to delete and click [Delete]. Select [Save] to save the current transmission settings. 5 Click [Send]. 5-3

31 5.1.2 Entering the destination using the address book You can select a fax destination that has been registered on your machine. 1 When the Fax Transmission Settings window appears, select either the Fax Destination or Destination and click [Address Book]. NOTE: Destinations must be registered in advance. For details on registering or editing destinations, see the Users Guide or Network Guide supplied with your machine. 2 Enter the items. 32 A B C D E F G H I J K L Item Click Address (11) to display the registered addresses. The number in parenthesis indicates how many addresses have been registered. Sort by Name The registered addresses are displayed in alphabetical order. Sort by Number The registered addresses are displayed in the address book number order. Click Groups (4) to display the registered groups. The number in parenthesis indicates how many groups have been registered. Click Search to search for a contact located on an LDAP server. The following page describes this function. Index tab Appears only when the registered addresses are displayed in alphabetical order. The registered addresses are sorted in alphabetical, number and symbol order. When the [123/All] tab is clicked, all the addresses will be displayed. Page Proceeds to the next page of the address book. The underlined numbers indicate pages that can be displayed; the number that is not underlined indicates the page currently being displayed. Display Sets the number of addresses to be displayed (10, 20, or all). Check the box next to Name and click Add to select that destination for transmission. Click [Fax number] or [ address] to confirm the entry. The registered addresses will be listed in this area. When you select address, a pull-down menu will appear next to the address. This pull-down menu allows you to select To, Cc or Bcc. Sets the number of selected addresses to be displayed (5, 10, or all). Check the box next to Name and click Delete to remove the destination from the transmission. Click [FAX] or [I-FAX] to confirm the selected destinations The entered and selected addresses will be listed in this area. To confirm all the destinations, switch [FAX] to [I-FAX]. 3 Click Save to close the address book with the selected destinations ready for transmission. 4 Click [Send]. 5-5

33 5.1.3 Searching for a destination NOTE: In order to search an LDAP server, the server must be registered in advance. For more information on server set up, see the Network Guide. 1 When the Address Book window appears, click [Search]. 2 Enter the items. A B C Item A B Select the server that contains the destination. Name Enter the name or part of a name to be searched. Fax Enter the fax number or a part of a fax number to be searched. Enter part of the address to be searched. Department This is not an independent field. To use this field either the Name, Fax or should also be entered. Any Searches any information in this field, including blanks. Initial Searches for contacts that begin with the characters entered in this field. Final Searches for contacts that end with the characters entered in this field. Equal Searches for contacts that match exactly with the information entered in this field. Not Use Information in this field (including blanks) will not be used for searching. 5-6

38 6. Imagistics TiffMaker 6.1 What is TiffMaker? TiffMaker is a print driver that converts files into Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) from your software application. For example, if you attach a TIFF file converted by TiffMaker to the Océ Imagistics Internet Fax via , you can use the Océ Imagistics Internet Fax machine as a PC printer. Also, by using the forwarding feature on the Océ Imagistics Internet Fax machine, you can send your electronic document to a remote fax machine without printing. 6.2 Creating a TIFF file 1 Open the document you want to convert in the native application. 2 Select Print from the File menu. 3 Click [Print] or [Print Setup] from the File menu. Make sure that Imagistics TiffMaker is selected as the printer. If you want to make any adjustments, click [Properties] or [Setup]. For details, see Configurating the Tiff Maker driver settings, page Click [OK] or [Print]. 5 TiffMaker will ask you where to place the TIFF file. Select the desired location and enter the file name, then click [Save]. NOTE : By default, TiffMaker will append the extension.tif and place the file into the PRINT folder under the Imagistics\TiffMaker folder. 6-1

41 Fit to Paper Choose this option to scale your print job to any selected paper size regardless of the logical document size. If you want your document to be fitted to the selected paper size, select Scale to fit. NOTE: When Scaling is set for other than 100% or the matching paper size as Paper size is selected, Scale to fit is not available. Scaling(%) You can enlarge or reduce the document in 1% increments, from 25% to 400%. NOTE: Scaling (%) is not available when Fit to paper is selected. q Paper Size Select the paper size from the drop down list, which shows the paper sizes supported in the print driver s current setting. Paper sizes shown on the drop down list are limited by the Paper Source and Combine settings. If you cannot find the desired size in the list, change the paper source. Orientation Portrait orients the print vertically and Landscape orients the print horizontally. Resolution Select either dpi, dpi or dpi as the printing resolution. NOTE: dpi provides better quality, but it also takes longer to print at this setting than at dpi or dpi. 6-4

42 7. Troubleshooting 7.1 Error Messages The table below describes the main error messages that may appear during PC print mode operations. Error Message What it means What to do Memory full. Printing to resume when memory is free. Press [Online] to stop. Memory over flow. Cannot sort print. To print only one section Select [Print] The machine has received more data than it can handle. The data is too large to sort Press [Online] to cancel the print job. Either delete unnecessary documents, retry after more memory becomes available, or split the print job into multiple jobs. Press [Print] to print one section of the job. Press [Cancel] to cancel this job. To cancel Select [Cancel] No paper type set on the PC On Cassette 1 Please set paper (Letter Plain) To cancel select [Cancel] (These messages are displayed alternately.) Paper size error for Cassette 1 On Cassette 1 Please set paper (Letter Plain) To cancel Select [Cancel] The paper source that was specified in the printer driver is empty. The paper size specified on the print driver does not match the paper size in the selected paper source The cassette/tray selected for printing is empty. Please load the correct paper in the cassette/tray and resume printing, or press [Cancel] to cancel. The cassette/tray selected for printing does not contain the paper size selected. 43 7.2 Driver installation Symptom Possible Cause Remedy Cannot install the driver Did you follow the instructions in this manual? If using Windows NT4.0/2000/Server 2003/XP/Vista, did you log on as a user belonging to an administrator group or an administrator? Is there any problem on your PC? Is your Windows environment stable? Is the CD-ROM drive working properly? Is there anything wrong with the setup CD? 7.3 Troubles in network printer Confirm the correct procedures as described in this manual. Log on as an administrator. Restart Windows. Check the operation of the CD-ROM drive. Check whether the setup CD can be read using Windows Explorer. If the setup CD cannot be read, please call the Imagistics National Diagnostic Center at Symptom Possible Cause Remedy Cannot print Has the machine been turned on? The LAN cable is not connected firmly. The wrong printing port has been selected Has the correct IP address been set on the machine? Check that the power cord is firmly connected and that the (on) side of the power switch has been pressed. Check whether LAN cable is firmly connected. The LINK lamp of the LAN connector illuminates when connected to the LAN ( 2 Installation page 2-1.) If not, LAN cable may defective. Open the printer properties dialog and check that the printing port is correct. The same IP address set on the machine should be selected for the printing port. Confirm the correct IP address with network administrator to set the correct one. 7-2

44 7.4 Troubles in TCP/IP environment Symptom Possible Cause Remedy Cannot add any port in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows Vista [LPR Port] is not shown in list for Available printer port in Windows NT 4.0 Have you logged on as a user belonging to an administrator group or as an administrator? Has Microsoft TCP/ IP Print service been built in Windows NT 4.0? 7.5 Troubles in PC fax If you are not an authorized administrator, you cannot add any port. Log on with a user account authorized for an administrator group or as an administrator and repeat the steps. Install the Microsoft TCP/IP Printing service. Symptom Possible Cause Remedy Cannot send a PC fax The phone line is not connected firmly. The LAN cable is not connected firmly. Check whether phone line is firmly connected. Check whether LAN cable is firmly connected. The LINK lamp of the LAN connector illuminates when connected to the LAN ( 2 Installation page 2-1.) If not, LAN cable may defective. 7-3

45 Cannot open the resident web page which you can access from the browser. The LAN cable is not connected firmly. If using Windows Vista/Server 2003, the Internet Explorer security has not been set properly. Check whether the LAN cable is firmly connected. Please change the Internet Explorer security setting as follows. (The images are based on Vista.) 1. Open Internet Explorer, and click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options. 2. Click the Security tab, and then click the Trusted sites. 3. Click [Sites]. 4. Enter your machine IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in the Add this website to the zone field. 5. Clear the Require server verification ( for all sites in this zone check box. Click [Add]. 6. Click [Close], and then click [OK]. 7-4
