110 Section 17.0 Configuring the Self-Provisioning Service in Akkadian Provisioning Manager 4.12 The Provisioning Manager self-provisioning feature allows organizations to provision users without having to know the MAC address of the destination phone. Instead, a user or technician can complete the provision process by going to the target device and using the Provisioning Manager Self-Provision IP Phone service to assign the phone. How does Provisioning Manager Self-Provisioning work? The process is simple and is very similar to the standard provisioning process in Provisioning Manager with a few additional requirements: This process is only supported on CUCM 10.x and above The CUCM end user must be provisioned with a self-service ID The phone must have Web Access enabled The CUCM end user must be provisioned with an associated phone containing a Dummy MAC addresses in the following format: BATXXXXXXXXXXXX where X represents any 12-character, hexadecimal (0-9 and A-F) number. The user can be provisioned with multiple devices, but can only have one associated BATXXXXXXXXXXXX device. The destination phone must have access to the Provisioning Manager Self-Provisioning IP Phone service. This can be achieved by either creating and IP Phone service and subscribing the phone or using the IDLE URL. In order for the service to be available, the phones in the Cisco Unified Communications Manger cluster must have network connectivity to the Provisioning Manager serve Section 17.1 Configuring Device Default Template Mappings for the Self- Provisioning Service Before the Self-Provisioning service can be used, a default template must be associated to each device type. The default template provides the settings that are not available to be copied between different phone models and or protocols. Default templates also do not support Global Variables, so it is recommended to create separate templates to be used for this function. These templates only require minimal configuration as many of the settings will be copied from the virtual BAT device. Akkadian Provisioning Manager 4.12 System Administration Guide 110
