9 What Is Skynax? Skynax Mobility Management System is a software solution that provides a reliable and highly scalable mobile communications system. This system is integrated with security, data management, device management, and extensible business application support features to effectively deploy and manage mobile computing systems. Skynax Editions Edition Skynax Entry Edition Skynax Standard Edition Skynax Enterprise Edition Description For a small mobile computing workgroup. All components must run on the same computer: 1 Skynax Server 1 Skynax Gateway 1 Remote Assist Operator 25 managed devices For mid-size mobile computing systems. The Skynax Server and Skynax Gateway must run on the same computer: 1 Skynax Server 1 Skynax Gateway 25 managed devices The license can be expanded to add more managed devices. 10 Installation Requirements The installation requirements are different for each computer and mobile device in your Skynax system: A single computer running all Skynax components A computer running Skynax Manager A computer running only a Skynax Gateway, Skynax Server, or Skynax Web Services A computer running Microsoft SQL Server A mobile device running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, 6.1, or Windows Embedded Handheld and the Skynax Client Note: Throughout this guide, Windows Mobile refers to all supported Windows Mobile and Windows Embedded Handheld operating systems. Requirements for Skynax Plug-Ins Technical Parameter Requirements 1 Processor Depends on the: complexity of the processing performed by the Plug-In. number of Plug-Ins installed on a Skynax Server. Memory (RAM) Depends on the: amount of data the Plug-In processes. number of mobile devices simultaneously communicating with the Plug-In processes on a Skynax Server. Disk Space Depends on the size of: the Plug-In application. any additional files the Plug-In processes create, including any temporary files and files used to store output. 1 You also need to meet the requirements for Skynax Plug-Ins. 15 How to Install Skynax Installing Skynax 8.80 is a multi-step procedure. Depending on your business needs, you can install all Skynax components on a dedicated server, or you can install them on a different machine on the network (Enterprise edition, only). About the Skynax Installation Files Skynax Installation Files File or Folder Setup_SkynaxDatabase_ 8.80.xx.xxxx Setup_SkynaxManagement Apps_8.80.xx.xxxx Setup_SkynaxNetworkPlatform _8.80.xx.xxxx Skynax_Client_target operating system_8.80.xx.xxxx Setup_SkynaxRemoteAssist_ 8.80.xx.xxxx Skynax_Device_Drivers After you purchase Skynax, you need to create an account on the Honeywell Partner website and download the Skynax installation files. Description Installs the Skynax Database. You typically install the Skynax database on a different application server. See Install the Skynax Database on page 17. Installs the Skynax Management Applications: Skynax Manager and Skynax Packager. See About the Skynax Management Applications on page 20. Installs the core server-side Skynax components: Skynax Gateway, Skynax Server, Skynax Remote Assist Server, Skynax MDM Service for ios, and Skynax Web Services. See Install the Skynax Network Platform Services on page 23. (Windows Mobile and Android) A.zip file that contains these files: Installation file for the Skynax Client application. This file (.cab or.apk, depending on the target operating system) installs the Skynax Client directly on the mobile device. Skynax.dlp and.lxf files. These files enable automatic deployment of new versions of the Skynax Client to mobile computers through Skynax. (Windows Mobile and Android) Installs Skynax Remote Assist Console, a Microsoft Windows application (licensed separately) that allows Remote Assist operators to connect to mobile devices in the Skynax system. You can create this folder for the device drivers. Each driver is designed to work with the Skynax Client and control a specific type of mobile device. You individually download the necessary driver.zip files for your mobile devices to this folder. Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide 15

16 Skynax Installation Files (continued) File or Folder Skynax_PlugIns Skynax_License Description The Skynax system Plug-Ins are automatically installed and configured when you install Skynax. You can create this folder for additional Skynax Plug-Ins. You can create this folder for the license necessary to install and run your Skynax system. Your license is sent through as a.txt file. Download the Skynax Release 8.80 Installation Files You need to download the Skynax Release 8.80 installation files from the Honeywell Partner website. To access the files, you need to register. 1 Go to the Honeywell Partner website at partners.honeywellaidc.com. 2 In the upper right corner, click Partner Login. 3 Type your User name and Password, and click Login. Or, click Register for Access, fill out the form, and click Register for access. After your information is verified, Honeywell sends you an with login credentials. 4 From the Quick Links menu on the right, click Honeywell Insider Partner Website. 5 Select Products > Software and Tools > Mobility Management Systems. 16 Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide

17 6 From the menu on the left, click Skynax Mobile Software. 7 Click the Downloads tab. 8 From the Applications section, download these files: Setup Skynax Network Platform ver xx.xxxx Setup Skynax Management Apps ver xx.xxxx Setup Skynax Database ver xx.xxxx Skynax Remote Assist Setup ver xx.xxxx (optional, Windows Mobile or Android) Skynax Client for target operating system ver xx.xxxx (Windows Mobile or Android) 9 From the OS/Firmware/Drivers section, download the Skynax Device Drivers for your mobile computers. 10 (Optional) Create a folder named Skynax_License, and copy your Skynax license.txt file to this folder. Install the Skynax Database Use the Skynax Database Setup application to install the Skynax database. You can run the application from any location on your network, as long as you have the appropriate permissions. 1 On your PC, browse to the location of the Skynax installation files and run the Setup_SkynaxDatabase_8.80.xx.xxxx application. 2 For Database Setup Mode, select Create new Skynax Database. 3 For SQL Server Authentication Mode, select the method you want to use to authenticate to the SQL Server: Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication. 18 4 If you selected SQL Server Authentication, enter the Login Name and Password. 5 If the SQL Server Browser service is running, click the SQL Server name field. All available servers on the network appear in the list. This process may take several minutes depending on the size of your network. If the SQL Server Browser service is not running, type the SQL Server name. Continue with Step 7. 6 Select the SQL Server where you want to install Skynax. If your SQL Server does not appear in the list, enter your SQL Server name. Note: You can install the database on a dedicated SQL Server on a different computer on the network. 7 (Optional) Change the Skynax Database name. The default name is Skynax. Make sure you note the name of your Skynax database. You need this information to install the Skynax components. 18 Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide

19 8 Click Next. 9 Verify the details of your Skynax database and click Execute. 10 When the Skynax Database Setup message box appears, click Yes to confirm and create the database. 20 11 (Optional) If you need to save installation log files, click Save Execution Details. 12 Click Exit. About the Skynax Management Applications The Skynax Management Applications are useful tools for System Administrators and IT Managers to monitor and test the Skynax System. Skynax Management Applications Application Skynax Manager Skynax System Monitor Skynax Packager Skynax Extended Settings Skynax Server Console Description A server-side application that operates as the Skynax control center. A server-side application that provides a basic visual indicator of the operating status of all Skynax Servers and Skynax Gateways within a single Skynax system. A stand-alone application that lets you bundle files into Skynax packages. Internal Skynax system settings and extensible features. A server-side application that provides a visual monitor of the communications processing on a Skynax Server. Install the Skynax Management Applications After you install your Skynax database, you need to install the Skynax Management Applications. 1 On your PC, browse to the location of the Skynax installation files and run the Setup_SkynaxManagementApps_8.80.xx.xxxx application. 20 Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide

21 2 Select a Setup Type: To install all applications to the default location, select Complete. To install individual applications and select the installation location, select Custom. 3 Click Next. 4 If you selected Custom, change the installation parameters: To change how the application is installed, click the icon next to the application and select an installation option. To change the installation location, click Change and browse to the folder where you want to install the application. df Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide 21

22 5 Follow the InstallShield Wizard instructions to install the Skynax Management Applications. About the Skynax Network Platform Services The Skynax Network Platform consists of four server-side applications that run as services. Skynax Network Platform Services Service Skynax Gateway Skynax Server Skynax Remote Assist Server Skynax Web Services Description The Skynax Gateway, or Gateway, functions as an entry point into the Skynax System. When a Skynax Client requests access to the Skynax System, the Gateway authenticates the mobile device and directs the request to the Skynax Server. The Skynax Server, or Server (not to be confused with a computer server) accepts and processes Skynax Client requests and facilitates the transfer of data between the Server and the Skynax Client. Controls all Remote Assist sessions between the Remote Assist Console and the Skynax Client on a Windows Mobile or Android device. Provide a set of standardized interfaces to allow third party applications to interface with the Skynax System. Skynax Web Services: provide access to specific data from the Skynax database or to specific Skynax functions through a web-based application. support the MDM Service for ios, which allows Skynax to manage Apple ios mobile devices. After you install Skynax Web Services, you can use the system tray to configure one or both services to run. You need to install at least one Skynax Gateway and one Skynax Server. If you have iphone or ipad devices in your Skynax system, you need to install Skynax Web Services and enable the MDM Service for ios on a PC that you also install a Skynax Server on. And, if you have a Remote Assist Console license, you need to install Remote Assist Server. 22 Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide

23 Install the Skynax Network Platform Services 1 On your PC, browse to the location of the Skynax installation files and run the Setup_SkynaxNetworkPlatform_8.80.xx.xxxx application. 2 If you are prompted to install the Microsoft.NET Framework, follow the installation instructions and restart your PC. The InstallShield Wizard continues. 3 Click Next. 4 Read the End-User License Agreement for Skynax Software and select I accept the terms in the license agreement. 5 Click Next. 6 Select a the components you want to install: To change how the application is installed, click the icon next to the application and select an installation option. To change the installation location, click Change and browse to the folder where you want to install the application. Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide 23

24 To install Skynax Web Services, click the icon next to Skynax Web Services and click This feature will be installed on local hard drive. 7 Follow the InstallShield Wizard instructions to install the Skynax Server. After you install the Network Platform services, application icons for each service appear in the system tray. You can use these icons to see the status of and configure each service. 25 Configure the Skynax Services You configure the Skynax services through the Skynax Service Setup window. You can access this window from any of the services icons in the system tray. 1 In the system tray, right-click one of the services icons and select Configure. Or, from one of the services pop-up notifications, click Click here to configure. 2 Select the service account where you want to run all Skynax services: Local System or a specific account. 3 Click Apply, and then click Next. 26 4 Set up the database account: a If the SQL Server Browser service is running, click the SQL Server name field. All available servers on the network appear in the list. This process may take several minutes depending on the size of your network. If the SQL Server Browser service is not running, type the SQL Server name. Continue with Step c. b Select the name of the SQL Server where your database is installed. c Select an authentication method: Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication. If you select Windows Authentication, make sure that the account you specified in Step 2 has appropriate access privileges for the Skynax services. d If you selected SQL Server Authentication, enter the Login Name and Password. e Select your Skynax Database name. f Click Apply, and then click Next. 27 5 Set up the Skynax Gateway: a In Add new Skynax Gateway using the name, enter a name for the Skynax Gateway. b Select an IP address (recommended) or host name to access the Gateway. If you use a host name, make sure that your mobile devices can resolve the host name or DNS name. c Click Apply, and then click Next. 6 Set up the Skynax Server: a In Add new Skynax Server using the name, enter a name for the Skynax Server. 28 b Select an IP address (recommended) or host name to access the Server. If you use a host name, make sure that your mobile devices can resolve the host name or DNS name. c Click Next. 7 Select the Skynax Web Services components you want to use. If the service does not start: the required certificates may not be installed. For help, see Install Certificates for Apple ios on page 37. the assigned TCP port may already be in use. 29 9 When the message box appears, click Yes to confirm that you want to start the services with the parameters you selected. Note: The Skynax Gateway service does not start until you enter your license key. For help, see Enter Your License Key on page 36. Modify the TCP Port for Skynax Web Services or the MDM Service for ios By default, Skynax Web Services uses TCP port 80, and the MDM Service for ios uses TCP port 443. If either of these ports are in use by other processes, the respective service does not start. 1 In the system tray, right-click the Skynax Web Services icon ( ). 2 Select View service log and read the log information: If you see the text, TCP port 80 or 443 is being used by another application, continue with Step 3. If you see any other error messages, contact your local Honeywell representative. 3 Close the log viewer window. 4 In the system tray, right-click the Skynax Web Services icon ( ) again. 5 Select Configure. 30 6 From the left navigation, click Skynax Web Services. 7 Change the Port from 80 or 443 to a different number. 8 Click Finish. How to Connect to Your Skynax System To connect to a Skynax system, use Skynax Manager to create a connection profile. You need to perform these tasks: Create a group or hierarchy of groups to manage your Skynax systems. Register a Skynax system with Skynax Manager. Connect to a Skynax system. About Skynax System Groups Skynax Manager provides the ability to create groups to manage Skynax systems. Information about groups and Skynax systems is stored locally and is only available to the administrator using that particular instance of Skynax Manager. Each administrator needs to create their own groups and register Skynax systems to those groups. When you create groups, keep these points in mind: Establish a naming convention to easily identify Skynax systems from multiple instances of Skynax Manager. You can add multiple groups and nested groups to help logically organize your Skynax systems. 30 Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide

31 You can add multiple Skynax systems to a group. Your Skynax system operation is not affected by the structure and names of your groups or by its location within your groups. Your Skynax system operation is also not affected if you delete the system from a group. Create a Skynax System Group Use Skynax Manager to create system groups. 1 Start Skynax Manager. 2 Select File > Connect. 3 Make sure that <root> is selected, and click New Group. 4 Type a name for the group and press Enter. 5 (Optional) To create a subgroup, select the group you want the subgroup to belong to and click New Group. Register a Skynax System Information that controls how a Skynax system operates is stored in its central Skynax Database. When you register a Skynax system, you provide Skynax Manager with information that allows it to connect to the Skynax Database in that Skynax system. You can register more than one Skynax system with each Skynax Manager installation. Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide 31

32 1 Start Skynax Manager. 2 Select File > Connect. 3 Select the group you want to add the Skynax system to and click New System. 4 Type the System identification name for your Skynax system. 5 Click the arrow in the SQL Server name field. 6 Select the computer that the Microsoft SQL Server is using to host the Skynax Database. 7 Select a SQL Server Authentication Method to let Skynax Manager access the Skynax Database: Windows Authentication SQL Server Authentication. You also need to provide a Database user name and Database password for a SQL Server user account that has access rights to the Skynax Database. 8 Click the arrow in the Skynax Database name field. 32 Skynax Mobility Management System Installation Guide

Connect to a Skynax System You need a valid login name and password to connect to a Skynax system. Your login credentials are stored as encrypted information in the Skynax Database. The default login credentials are the login name Administrator with no password. You should change the login credentials after installation. 36 Enter Your License Key You need an active license to continue with the installation process. Your license key is a.txt file sent as an attachment. For help getting a license key, contact your local Honeywell representative. 1 On the Skynax Infrastructure tab, click Enter License Key. 2 Click Read from File, browse to the location of the.txt file, select the file, and click Open. 37 6 Click Close. When the license key is accepted, the Skynax Gateway service starts, and the Skynax Gateway icon in the system tray turns green:. Install Certificates for Apple ios To manage Apple ios mobile devices, you need to install the Skynax Loader certificate for ios and the MDM certificate for ios on your Skynax Server. You need to renew the MDM certificate for ios annually. 1 Generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR): a Start Skynax Manager. b c d e f On the Skynax Infrastructure tab, make sure the Skynax Servers module is selected. Click System Options. From the left navigation, click Certificates. In the MDM Certificate for ios row, click Create. All of the available properties that you can set are listed. 9 Set your communications parameters. Install the Skynax Client Package for Windows Mobile and Android You need to install the Skynax Client package for each type of Windows Mobile and Android device in your Skynax system. 49 5 Select the appropriate Skynax Client.lfx file and click Open. 6 Review the File Information to make sure that this is the driver you want to add. 7 Click Finish. 8 Repeat Steps 2 through 7 for each type of device (Windows Mobile or Android) in your Skynax System. How to Install Skynax Loader Skynax Loader is a client-side application used to register a mobile device with a specific Skynax system. The method you use to install Skynax Loader depends on your mobile device operating system: Windows Mobile and Android: Install the Skynax Loader.cab file on the device, and then run the.cab file. On Intermec-branded devices, you can place the.cab file in the cabfiles folder and reboot the device to install Skynax Loader. For help, see the mobile computer user manual. 50 Apple ios: Download Skynax Loader from the itunes App Store and install the application on the mobile device. Note: The Skynax Loader application for Windows Mobile and Android devices is different than the Skynax Loader application for Apple ios devices. Provision Android Devices On Android devices that are not manufactured by Intermec or Honeywell, the Skynax Client does not have permission to silently install applications. You need to accept the installation of all necessary applications during the provisioning process. Note: This guide uses screenshots from an Android phone. Register Your Device with a Skynax Server You need to know the IP address and TCP port of the Skynax Gateway and the System Code for the device. 1 On your Apple ios mobile device, start Skynax Loader. 2 Tap Add Gateway. 3 Type the IP Address. 57 Install the SkynaxCA Certificate When the System Administrator accepts the registration request, Skynax Manager sends a welcome message to the mobile device. Note: If you select Later, you need to repeat the procedure to Register Your Device with a Skynax Server on page 54. Device Provisioning Welcome Message: The System Administrator can configure the welcome message. So, the message that appears on your mobile device may be different than this one. 1 Tap Continue. 58 2 Tap Install Certificate.The certificate is identified as Not Trusted, because it comes from the Skynax Server and not a Certificate Authority. 3 Tap Install. 59 5 Tap Done. Note: The check mark only indicates that you visited the Install Certificate screen. It does not indicate that a certificate was successfully installed. Install the Provisioning Profile The provisioning profile allows the Skynax Server to manage the device. 1 On the Skynax Loader Provisioning screen, tap Install Settings. 2 Tap Install. 3 When prompted, tap Install Now. 60 4 Tap Install. The profile is installed. 5 Tap Done. About System Codes for Windows Mobile You use System Codes to define groups of users who share the same characteristics. For example, the System Code User ID may define a group of users who use the same applications. 61 A System Code is connected to one Deployment Group and one Connection Group: A Deployment Group controls how your business applications are deployed to your Windows Mobile devices. A Connection Group defines the communication rules for the Skynax Client running on your Windows Mobile device. Create a Deployment Group You can only assign one business application to one Deployment Group. To deploy multiple business applications, you define multiple Deployment Groups. 1 On the System Codes tab, click Deployment Groups. 2 Click. 3 Enter a Deployment Group Name and Description. 4 (Optional) Enter a Note. 5 Click Next. 6 Click Finish. 66 Create a System Code 13 (Optional) Assign a priority to each Process: a Select the Connection Paths tab. b Assign a Priority number (from 1 to 255) to each Process. A lower number indicates a higher priority. Note: When you select a Process to support over a Connection Path, priority is automatically assigned to the Process. If you select the same Process for multiple Connection Paths, priority is assigned in the order the Connection Paths were created. So, the Connection Path you created first has the highest priority.
