3 Release Type and Definitin Dell Wyse Device Manager (WDM) sftware is the premier enterprise slutin fr managing Dell Wyse thin and zer clients simply, remtely, and securely. It enables IT prfessinals t easily rganize, upgrade, cntrl, and supprt thusands f Windws Embedded, Windws CE, Linux, Wyse ThinOS, Xenith, and P-Class devices acrss any LAN, WAN, r wireless netwrk. The sftware uses industry standard cmmunicatin prtcls and a cmpnentbased architecture t efficiently manage yur netwrk devices. Its intuitive, simple and pwerful user interface is built t perate as a standard snap-in t the Micrsft Management Cnsle (MMC). Dell Wyse Device Manager (WDM) includes an easy-tuse cnsle that enables yu t easily perfrm all the device management functins that are required t run and maintain yur WDM Envirnment. 4 The fllwing databases can be installed n the Database Server: Micrsft SQL Server 2005 Micrsft SQL Server 2008 Micrsft SQL Server 2008 R2 - English Micrsft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express English (default, built-in ptin in Installer) Micrsft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Micrsft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise (32 -bit). Nte: If yu plan n using Windws 2012 server as Sftware Repsitry, we recmmend using FTP instead f HTTP r HTTPS due t an intermittent imaging issue. Installing WDM 5.0 MR1.1 This htfix can be installed n: WDM 5.0 Internatinal Release Build MR1 HF Pre-installatin Check List Yu cannt uninstall the htfix after yu install it. Prir t starting the htfix installatin, ensure that all scheduled packages have cmpleted and the DDC (Default Device Cnfiguratin, fr WDM Enterprise custmers) feature is disabled. This is required t ensure that n device-specific updates are pending while a WDM upgrade is in prgress. Make sure that all the WDM GUI instances that are running lcally r remtely are clsed prir t starting the upgrade. Prir t installing the htfix make sure that all lcal and remte cnnectins t the WDM server are clsed and all WDM GUI sessins are clsed when the htfix installatin is in prgress. Steps t Install WDM 5.0 MR1.1 If yu are having a distributed setup where all the WDM cmpnents are installed n separate systems, then make sure the htfix is installed n the fllwing cmpnents: WDM Server One r mre WDM GUI Cnsles One r mre Remte Sftware Repsitries WDM Master Sftware Repsitry Yu d nt need t install the htfix n the WDM Database as this gets updated when yu run the htfix n the WDM Server. T install the htfix: 1) Extract the htfix installer file in a suitable flder lcatin. WDM 5.0 MR1.1 HF wrkgrup Page 4 f 8

5 2) Run the Setup.exe file frm the flder. 3) After the installatin cmpletes, cnfirm the installatin by launching the WDM Cnsle, right-clicking n the WyseDeviceManager nde under Cnsle Rt, and selecting Abut Dell Wyse Device Manager ptin. Nte: Yu cannt run the Htfix Installer frm a Netwrk Shared flder. What s New in WDM 5.0 MR1.1 This sectin prvides details n the new features r fixes added in this release. Merlin uses Bash in X86_64 initrd64.pxe (WE8S) and uinitrd (ARM) Bth versins are updated with latest patch t be cmpatible with shellshck fix. Shellshck is the name given t vulnerabilities in Bash, a shell prgram distributed n Linux, Unix, and OS X systems. Because these vulnerabilities are relatively easy t explit and the impact t systems is high, NIST has rated this a 10/10 in severity. A flaw was fund in the way Bash evaluated certain specially crafted envirnment variables. An attacker may use an arbitrary cmmand t disclse sensitive system infrmatin, r t write files elsewhere n the server s file system (similar t a file uplad vulnerability). Successful explitatin f this vulnerability may allw an attacker t execute arbitrary cmmands in the cntext f the vulnerable HTTP CGI server. Used in cnjunctin with ther attacks, an attacker may be able t cmpletely cmprmise an unprtected system. 7 WDM Encryptin Infrmatin TIR Classificatin Data The fllwing criteria are used when assigning a TIR classificatin: TIR Classificatin Descriptin 1 TIR is f a very serius nature and has a prbability f affecting > 1% f custmers. A TIR with this classificatin must be fixed befre Prductin Release. 2 TIR has less ptential impact n custmer, (prbability f affecting < 1% f custmers), but is still f a serius nature. A TIR with this classificatin must be fixed befre Prductin Release. 3 TIR is f a mderately serius nature but a wrk-arund exists. TIR has a prbability f affecting > 1% f custmers. A TIR with this classificatin shuld be cnsidered strngly when making Prductin Release determinatin. 4 TIR is f a minr nature, typically invlving cmpatibility issues, and has a prbability f affecting < 1% f custmers. A TIR with this classificatin shuld be cnsidered when making Prductin Release determinatin. 5 TIR is f a very minr nature, typically invlving csmetic prblems. These TIRs typically d nt have t be fixed befre Prductin Release. The fllwing criteria are used t determine which TIR s must be fixed befre the firmware can be cnsidered fr release t prductin: TIR s with a classificatin f 1 r 2 must be fixed befre the firmware can be cnsidered fr release t prductin. TIR s with a classificatin f 3, 4, r 5 will be fixed if the fllwing cnditins are true: The TIR can be fixed with a minimal ptential fr adversely affecting the firmware. There is adequate space remaining in the firmware t accmmdate the fix. TIR s with a classificatin 3, 4, r 5 need nt be fixed if the fllwing cnditins are true: The TIR is a carry-ver frm a previusly released prduct, and n reprts frm the field have been received.
