2 Getting Started The INDS Data Manager (IDM) for PC Quick Start Guide leads you through installation and gets you started using download and programming functions for your INDS services. INDS Data Manager for PC System Requirements NOTE: This software may not run properly and INDS is unable to provide technical support on systems that do not meet these requirements. What You Need The following resources are required to install INDS Data Manager, download data updates, and program media: Windows PC INDS Data Manager installation package (i.e. software application), downloaded from or the INDS website under News Administrative permission to install new software on your computer Appropriate media (USB, CD) or Honeywell Remote Terminal installed on same PC Internet connection Active subscription to data services for the Primus Epic INAV Gulfstream V16 & AGG Downloading the Program Installer The INDS Data Manager program is available by download from the Jeppesen web site. To download the package: 2

3 1. Go to or the INDS website under News 2. Click the Download INDS DM link and save the installation package file to your PC. 3. When the download is finished, minimize or close all browser windows. 4. Navigate to the location where you downloaded the package and continue with the installation instructions below. Installing INDS Data Manager 1. Double-click the installation package (.msi) to start the installation process. 2. Follow the instructions in the Setup Wizard. Be sure to accept the License Agreement. 3. The final screen will notify you of a successful installation. 4. Launch the INDS Data Manager icon located on your Windows desktop. Login Once INDS Data Manager is installed on your computer: 1. Establish an Internet connection. 2. Double click on the application icon on your desktop. 3. When the login dialog appears, enter your username and password. New User Interface The new graphical user interface for the INDS Data Manager for the PC is comprised of several areas. These areas provide you with the ability to easily find more information about your services, status, and media. Figure 1 Overview 3

4 The Folders Area allows the user to create custom folders. The "All" folder will show all aircraft in the Services Area. To add a custom folder, click the plus (+) icon at the bottom of the Folders Area. Enter a name for your folder and hit <Enter>. To add services to a customized folder, select an aircraft from the Aircraft Area and drag it to the folder of your choice. The Aircraft Filter Area provides a quick and easy way for you to narrow your search on a particular aircraft and the associated services. Select All to show all aircraft in the Services Area. The Services Area is where services are displayed based on the aircraft filter selection. You can drag and drop a service(s) to the hard drive, a data card, or customized directory. You can select multiple services by holding down the <Ctrl> key and clicking with your mouse. The blue outline on a service box indicates it has been selected. You can use the same method to deselect multiple services. The Update Options Area is where compatible media that are plugged into your computer are displayed and available to download and program services. The media will highlight only if it can be programmed when you attempt to drop a service on it. Preparing Databases for Loading to Avionics The INDS data you need is now available in the format ready to load the aircraft. In each of the following sections we will walk you through preparing databases for loading via: Remote Terminal with the data on a hard drive Remote Terminal with the data on a USB Flash Drive can be inserted into a PC or the new dmu-3 (USB/SD based DMU being released into production in early 2014) Remote Terminal with data on a CD for use with the traditional DMU Refer to the applicable aircraft maintenance documentation for instructions on loading databases into the aircraft avionics using Remote Terminal / DLS. Programming to the Hard Drive Some INDS services need to be programmed to the hard drive, in order to be used with the Remote Terminal on the PC. You must be connected to the Internet and logged into IDM before starting the programming process for your data services. 1. Click on a service in the Services Area with a status of Available for Update and drag to Program to (C:) in the Update Options Area. Drop the service to start the programming process. To program multiple services, hold down the <Ctrl> key and click services with your mouse. 4

5 2. To cancel this action, drag the service back to the Services Area before releasing the service. 3. A pop-up message will ask you to specify the location on the hard drive to program the service. Enter the location and select Continue in the user-pick directory box. Point to an existing directory. 4. The service will download first and then program. You will receive pop-up messages in the upper right corner with status information. 5. When the programming process has successfully completed, a message will display with a link to View Alerts and notices. Click on this link to get the latest information on your services prior to flight. From this point, you can use the Remote Terminal / DLS process as usual. Programming to USB Drive You can download and program data updates directly to a USB drive. You must be connected to the Internet and logged into IDM before starting the programming process for your data services. 5

6 Note: Honeywell recommends the USB be formatted in FAT32 file system to maximize compatibility across Data Management Units (DMU) / Data LAN Management Units (DLMU). 1. Click on a service in the Services Area that is Available for Update. Drag to the media in the Update Options Area and drop the service to start the programming process. 2. The service will download first and then program. You will receive pop-up messages in the upper right corner with status information. In the picture shown below, the USB is named INDS_Cycle1 and is using the FAT32 type file system. 3. Once the spinning arrows next to the drive name stop, be sure to use the eject function (the up arrow icon) before removing the USB from the computer. Programming to a USB Drive Offline IDM has the functionality to download a service to your computer when you are online and program the service to a USB drive at a later time. You must be connected to the Internet and logged into INDS Data Manager before starting the download process. You can program the service at a later time, while offline. Online 1. Click on a service in the Services Area that is Available to Update and drag to Download Only in the Update Options Area. 2. Drop the service to start the download process. When the download is complete, the status on the service will be Downloaded. Ready to program (offline). Offline 6

7 3. When ready, select the service that has been downloaded. Drag and drop the service on the appropriate media in the Update Options Area. 4. You will receive pop-up messages in the upper right corner with status information. WARNING Do not remove your media until the programming cycle is complete. Otherwise, data may be incomplete or corrupt. Programming to a CD Drive IDM allows you to program your data directly to a CD. The media supported by IDM are CD-R (blank only) and CD-RW (blank or formatted) discs. When inserting a blank disc, you will get a pop-up message from Windows offering blank CD options. Please disregard this message. IDM will format the disc for you. 1. Insert a CD into the computer. If the CD is a valid* drop target, it will be displayed in the Update Options area of the application. If the CD is blank, IDM will format it to CDFS in order to be read by the DMU. 2. Click on an Electronic Charts service in the Services area with a status of Available for Update and drag to the Optical Drive in the Update Options area and drop the service to start the programming process. 3. To cancel this action, drag the service back to the Services area before releasing the service. 4. The service will download first and then program. You will receive pop-up messages in the upper right corner with status information. 5. When the programming process has successfully completed, a message will display with a link to View Alerts and notices. Click on this link to get the latest information on your services prior to flight. From this point, you can use the Remote Terminal / DLS process as usual. Please note that physical media (CD or USB) is only required for Electronic Charts (Blue media) on aircraft that have NOT enabled the Enhanced Nav option, as the Blue media must be installed in the DMU during loading process. Nav and Terrain files from the Red/Orange and Green media can be loaded directly from the PC hard drive or by using the USB option for all aircraft. Aircraft utilizing the new DMU-3 do not require a CD, but rather should use a USB in place of the CDs. *The following options are not valid drop targets in IDM: 7

8 No disc in the CD drive CD-R that has been formatted with data on it CD-R that has been formatted for UDF ("Like a USB flash drive") Blu-ray Disc DVD Terminal Chart Subsetting An added feature of INDS DM is the ability to subset the coverage by specifying a smaller geographical area or by runway length before copying to your media. This is helpful if your media or avionics system has limited storage capacity. Subsetting affects only the amount of data copied to the media and loaded into the avionics. Steps to subset chart coverage: 1. Click the Subset:Available >> Download Charts link in the lower right section of the service. 2. After completing the download, the service will have a link called Subset: Not Applied >> Select Coverage. Click the Select Coverage link to access the subsetting dialog box. 3. Use the mouse to drag the selection box around the map. 4. Use the handles in the corners of the selection box to resize it. Light blue boxes will indicate what coverage areas are included with this service. Hit Apply Selection to save the selection. 5. If no selection has been applied, the label on the selection box will remain Apply Selection. All data will be programmed to the media. 6. If a subset region is applied, only the data in the selection box will be programmed. The label on the selection box will be Clear Selection. 7. You may also subset based on runway length. Under the Only download airports with runway length of section, select the category that best suits your operations. 8

9 8. When done editing, press Save to save all selections on the subsetting dialog box. 9. Once a subset region has been applied to a chart service, the text on the service will change to Subset: Applied >> Edit Coverage. 10. Select the service in the Services Area. Drag and drop it on the appropriate media in the Update Options area to begin programming. Uninstalling INDS Data Manager For Windows, there are two methods of removing the application from your PC - the Control Panel and the installation file. Go to the Control Panel > Programs and Features (for Windows 7). Highlight the INDS Data Manager software, and click Uninstall from the list of options. You can also remove the application by using the installation file (.msi) that may have been saved to your computer during the installation process (if you selected Save). Double click on the.msi file. Select Next then Remove. See image below. 9
