5 1 System Requirements The following system requirements are necessary for viewing map data in HiPER LOOK Web Viewer. 1.1 Prerequisites Prior to viewing map data in HiPER LOOK Web Viewer, the following must be in place, as detailed in the HiPER LOOK Desktop Administrator Guide: HiPER LOOK Server Enterprise installed and configured on a server Data cataloged and encoded via HiPER LOOK Desktop Administrator Mapfile generated via HiPER LOOK Desktop Administrator or Map Builder IP address of the HiPER LOOK WMS Server 1.2 Web Browser The web browsers apply: Internet Explorer 9 and Up Mozilla Firefox 18 and Up Google Chrome 25 and Up PIXIA Corp. 6 2 HiPER LOOK Web Viewer Overview The HiPER LOOK Web Viewer enables you to view maps and images served by HiPER LOOK Server Enterprise. It resides on the HiPER LOOK Server and is designed for access via a web browser on an external client machine. This guide outlines the main features of HiPER LOOK Web Viewer. 2.1 How to Access HiPER LOOK Web Viewer The steps to access the web viewer are detailed below: 1. Open a web browser. Reference Section 1.2 Web Browser for a list of compatible browsers. 2. In the address bar, input the IP address of the HiPER LOOK Server. It is typically formatted address or host name>. 7 3. When the HiPER LOOK WMS starts, the default browser on the computer system launches and the HiPER LOOK WMS Splash Screen is displayed. 4. To start the HiPER LOOK VIEWER, click the HiPER LOOK logo in the center of the screen. HiPER LOOK EULA 5. The first time the HiPER LOOK WMS Splash Screen is displayed, the End-User License Agreement (EULA) dialog box is shown in the center of the interface. 6. After reading the EULA you may continue by clicking the "AGREE" button [2] on the right side of the dialog box. 7. After clicking the "AGREE" button, the HiPER LOOK VIEWER will be displayed. 8 2.2 Main Window Components HiPER LOOK VIEWER The HiPER LOOK VIEWER user interface (UI) contains various elements which includes an interactive map, several toolbars and related controls. By default, the "default.map file is displayed when the map viewer first starts up. You may want to begin your session by choosing a specific map to view. 9 2.2.2 Maps & Layers Panel The "Maps & Layers" Panel [1] is displayed on the right side of the screen. The Map Files stored on the HiPER LOOK WMS are shown in the Map Selection Menu [2]. Click the Map Selection Menu to display the available options. Then click the name of a Map File to load that file into the VIEWER. Please note: if you are accessing an instance of the HiPER LOOK WMS over a busy network, it may take a few moments to load the Map and all of the associated image data. PIXIA Corp. 10 2.2.3 Layer Menu After a Map File loads, [by default] a composite image is displayed which is a "stacked mosaic" of all the Layers in the selected Map File. Layers may be divided into sets of [parent-child] hierarchies called Layer Groups. Each Layer Group has a Composite Layer that displays a composite image which represents all the Layers in the Layer Group. Layer Groups are collapsible to enable greater usability of the Layer Menu. A Layer Group may be collapsed or expanded by clicking Layer Group Name label. PIXIA Corp. Copyright 2016 PIXIA Corp. All rights reserved. Page 10
11 2.2.4 Layer Controls Each Layer has the following controls: 1. Visibility Checkbox - click to toggle the visibility of the Layer. 2. Zoom to extents Button - click to zoom the map to the visible extents of the Layer. 3. Export KML Button - click to export/view the KML file for this Layer. Please note: after clicking the Export Button, the web browser may ask if you would like to "Open" or "Save" the file. Choosing "Open" will cause the KML file to be opened in the default program. The default program for KML is usually the Google Earth viewer. This behavior may vary depending on the configuration of the system. PIXIA Corp. Copyright 2016 PIXIA Corp. All rights reserved. 12 2.2.5 Capabilities The Capabilities Document is an XML file that identifies map extents, as well as which layers, styles, image formats and other features that the WMS (and/or the current Map) supports. To view the Capabilities XML file for the current map, click the View Capabilities Button [1] in the Map File section of the Maps & Layers Panel. Clicking the View Capabilities Button launches a dialog box that displays the URL for the Capabilities Document as well as a code preview of the XML. This feature may be helpful when third-party applications are used in conjunction with the HiPER LOOK WMS, Map Files and related imagery assets. PIXIA Corp. Copyright 2016 PIXIA Corp. 14 3.1 The Interactive Map Map Components 1. Map Viewport - pan and zoom using the mouse and keyboard. 2. Zoom Toolbar - zoom the map using this toolbar. 3. Map Tools - various tools for effective use of the Map File and associated imagery. At the center of the Map Viewport is the Crosshair Control. This control indicates the exact center of the current viewport hovering the cursor over the Crosshair Control displays the Lat/Lon coordinates of the Viewport Center. 15 3.1.2 Map Viewport Navigation (Mouse) 1 Left Mouse Button - click and drag to pan/move the map. 2 Left Mouse Button - double-click to zoom in. 3 Right Mouse Button - right-click to display the Context Menu. 4 Mouse Wheel - roll the wheel forward to zoom in; roll the wheel back to zoom out Map Viewport Navigation (Keyboard) 1 Plus/Minus Keys - Plus key to zoom in; minus key to zoom out. 2 Arrow Keys - Up, down right, left moves the map accordingly. 3 Page Keys - Page Up slides the map up; Page Down slides the map down. 4 Home/End Keys - Home slides the map left; End slides the map right Map Viewport Navigation (Mouse + Keyboard Combo) PIXIA Corp. 16 3.1.5 Zoom Toolbar Zoom Region 1. Hold the Shift key, then click and drag to draw a rectangle. 2. Release the mouse button to initiate the zoom Zoom Toolbar The Zoom Toolbar contains controls for modifying the Zoom Level of the Map Viewport. 1. Plus Button - click to zoom in one Zoom Level. 17 2. Zoom Bar - click + drag the "handle" to the desired Zoom Level. * 3. Minus Button - click to zoom out one Zoom Level. 4. Reset Center - click to zoom to "world" extents and center the Map Viewport at 0, 0 (Lat/Lon). * Clicking on the Zoom Bar will automatically slide the handle to a new Zoom Level Map Tools Various tools to effectively utilize the map and imagery stored on the WMS. 1. Maps & Layers Button - click to open the Maps & Layers Panel. 2. Feature Info Button - click to open the Feature Info Panel. 3. Measure Button - click to open the Measure Panel 4. 18 3.1.7 Maps & Layers Panel The Maps & Layers Panel is displayed on the right side of the screen and contains two main components: 1. Map File Options - controls to change Map Files and view info about each Map. 2. Layer Menu - a list of Layers contained in the selected Map File. 19 3.1.8 Map File Options 1. Map Selection Menu - select a Map File to load that map into the Viewer. 2. Map Info Button - display general info about the current Map File. 3. Get Capabilities Button - display the WMS Capabilities Dialog box. 4. Map Reload Button - reloads the current Map File returning it to default view. * PIXIA Corp. Copyright 2016 PIXIA Corp. 20 * Generally helpful to bring the Map File configuration back to it's "original" state after changing Options on several Layers Capabilities XML Dialog Box The Capabilities XML dialog box contains links to the WMS, WMTS and WCS capabilities XML for the current/selected Map File. 1. URL Field - click to select the URL and press Ctrl + C to copy it to the clipboard. 2. XML Preview - scroll the text area to see a preview of the selected Capabilities XML. PIXIA Corp. 21 Layer Menu The Layer Menu [1] displays all the Layers included in the selected Map File. Layers may be divided into sets of [parent-child] hierarchies called Layer Groups. Each Layer Group has a Composite Layer that displays a composite image which represents all the Layers in the Layer Group. Layer Groups are collapsible to enable more effective usability of the menu. 22 Layer Controls Each Layer has the following controls: 1. Visibility Toggle - click checkbox to toggle the visibility of the Layer. 2. Options Button - click to toggle the visibility of the Layer Options panel. 3. Zoom to Extents Button - click to zoom the map to the visible extents of the Layer. 4. Export KML Button - click to export a KML file for this layer. * * After clicking the KML Button, the web browser may ask if you would like to "Open" or "Save" the file. Choosing "Open" will cause the KML file to be opened in the default program. The default program for KML is usually the Google Earth viewer. This behavior may vary depending on the configuration of the system Layer Options The Layer Options panel has the following controls: 1. Layer Style Menu - click to menu and select a Style name to change the Layer Style. 2. Opacity Input - click/select value in the field; then type a value of 0 to 100 to change Layer Opacity. 3. Opacity Slider - click + drag to [quickly] set the Layer Opacity value. Note: Layer Option Panel is disabled (greyed-out) when the Layer is not visible. 23 Feature Info Panel The Feature Info Panel contains two key components: 1. Options Menu - contains a dropdown menu for selecting Feature Info type. 2. Results Menu - displays Feature Info Data at a selected point for visible Layers. To close the panel, click the X icon in the upper right corner of the panel or press the Esc key on the keyboard. 24 Using the Feature Info Tool 1. The Feature Info Control is activated when the panel is opened. * 2. Place the mouse cursor over the Map Viewport; click a point on the Map. ** 3. Feature Information Data is displayed in the Results section of the panel. * The Basic Info type is selected by default. Depending on your HiPER LOOK configuration, other Feature Info types may be available. ** While the control is active, each click in the Map Viewport will cause the Results Menu to be updated. 25 Measure Panel 1. Options Menu - click to select a Drawing Mode. 2. Measurements - view the results of the current measurement. To close the panel, click the X icon in the upper right corner of the panel or press the Esc key on the keyboard. Closing the panel automatically deactivates the Measure Tool. PIXIA Corp. 26 Using the Measure Tool 1. Select a Drawing Mode (e.g. Line or Poly). * 2. Position mouse cursor over the Map and click to draw a line or shape. 3. View the results (distance/area) in the Measurements section of the panel. * Selecting "None" clears the previous shape and deactivates the Measure Tool. 27 Measure Tool: Drawing Line Segments (Line Mode) Line Mode is for measuring distance. Use this tool to calculate approximate distance between two or more points. Position the mouse cursor over the Map Viewport; select a point on the map to begin the measurement. Drawing straight lines: click to start drawing a line; click again to add a new vertex to the line; double-click to stop drawing the line. Drawing free-form lines: press/hold the Shift key, then click and drag; release Shift to draw straight segments; release mouse button to end. Note: pressing the Esc key clears the previous line, deactivates the Measure Tool and closes the Measure Panel. Measure Tool: Drawing Shapes (Poly Mode) Polygon Mode is for measuring surface area. Use this tool to calculate approximate square miles/kilometers of a polygon. Position the mouse cursor over the Map Viewport; select a point on the map to begin the measurement. Drawing straight-line polygons: click to start drawing a shape; click again to add a new vertex to the shape; double-click to stop drawing. Drawing free-form polygons: press/hold the Shift key, then click and drag; release Shift to draw straight segments; release mouse button to end. 28 Export Panel 1. Options Menu - click to select an Export type. * 2. Configuration Menu - displays various options for the selected Export type. To close the panel, click the X icon in the upper right corner of the panel or press the Esc key on the keyboard. * Depending on your HiPER LOOK configuration, other Export types may be available. 29 Export: Composite Snapshot The Composite Snapshot Export service may be used to render a composite image of the visible Map Layers shown in the Map Viewer. The Snapshot image can be saved in various standard image formats. The general workflow for generating a Snapshot is shown below. 1. Pan/Zoom the Map Viewport to a specific Area of Interest; 2. Select and show desired Layers; 3. Set Layer Styles and Opacity for visible Layers; 4. Close the Maps & Layers panel and Open the Export Panel; 5. Set Snapshot Configuration Options; 6. 30 3.2 The Navigation Toolbar Navigation Toolbar Elements The Navigation Toolbar is located at the top of the interface. It contains the following buttons and controls: 1. About Button - click to display the About Dialog Box. 2. Previous Button - click to go back one view. 3. Next Button - click to go forward one view. 4. Search Field - search for a location. 5. Favorite Locations Button - click to display the Favorite Locations dialog box. 6. Map Links Button - click to display the Map Links dialog box. 7. Viewport Center Button - click to display the Viewport Center dialog box. 8. Viewport Extents Button - click to display the Viewport Extents dialog box. 9. Options Button - click to display the UI Options dialog box. 10. Toggle Controls Button - click to show/hide all the main UI elements. 11. 32 3.2.3 Viewport History Controls The Viewport History operates much like standard browser history. Use the buttons to cycle (back and forward) through Viewport History. 1. Previous Button - click to go back one step (B A). 2. Next Button - click to go forward one step (A B) Location Search The Location Search Tool (or Gazetteer) is used to find a specific location on the map. To use Location Search: 1. Click inside the Search field. 2. Start typing a location (e.g. country name) or coordinate values (e.g. DD, DMS, MGRS). 3. 33 To clear/exit Location Search: 1. Click the "Reset" button to clear the Search Tool. 2. Click the "Cancel" button to close the Search Results fly-out menu Favorite Locations Dialog Box This dialog displays saved locations that can used to quickly navigate to a point on the Map. 1. Location List: a. Location Entry - click to display this Saved Location on the Map. b. Delete (X) - click to delete this entry from the list. 2. Buttons: a. Save Current Location - click to display the Save Location form. * b. Delete Saved Locations - click to delete all locations from the system. * The Save Location Entry Form is collapsed by default and expands after clicking the button. PIXIA Corp. 34 3.2.6 Favorite Locations Dialog: Save Location This dialog displays a form that can be used to save the current Map Location. 1. Fields: a. Name - enter a name to reference this saved location in the list. b. Point - displays the Lat/Lon coordinates of the current location. 2. Buttons: a. 35 3.2.7 Viewport Center Dialog Box The Viewport Center Dialog displays the geographic coordinates for the center point of the Map Viewport. 1. Viewport Center Coordinates - fields displaying the coordinates of the [current] center point of the Map Viewport. The Center Coordinates are shown in DD, DMS and MGRS formats. 2. Buttons: a. Edit Center - click to display the Coordinate Entry Form. * b. Reset - click to reset Viewport Center to default values. c. Search - closes this dialog, places the cursor/focus on the Location Search input field. 3. Close (X) - click to close the dialog box. * The Coordinate Entry Form is collapsed by default and expands after clicking the button Coordinate Entry Form The Coordinate Entry Form is used to modify the Viewport Center via text input. 1. Coordinate Entry Form - Input fields for modifying Lat, Lon and Zoom Level values. 2. Buttons: a. Go - click to set the Viewport Center to values shown in the form. b. 36 3.2.9 Viewport Extents Dialog Box The Viewport Extents Dialog displays the coordinates for the bounding box of the current viewport. 1. Coordinates - a field containing the Lat/Lon coordinates of the current bounding box. 2. Buttons: a. Reset - click to reset Viewport Center to default values. b. 37 Options Dialog Box The Options Dialog Box contains controls for modifying the user interface. 1. Tabs: a. Background Tab - click to display Map Viewport Background Options (displayed by default). b. Scale Bar Tab - click to display Scale Bar Control Options. c. Cursor Tab - click to display Cursor Position Control Options. 2. Buttons: a. Toggle Controls Button - click to enable Expert Mode. b. Toggle Full Screen - click to switch between Windowed and Full Screen modes Options Dialog: Background Tab The Map Tab in the Options Dialog Box has controls for modifying the Map Viewport. Currently, the only option available is to change the background color of the Map Viewport Container. 1. Color Picker - select a custom color using the color block, slider and/or input fields. * 2. Swatches - click to select one of the preset color swatches. ** * Change the color by selecting specific values; use RGB, HSB or Hexidecimal color values. ** By default, the background is transparent. 38 Options Dialog: Scale Bar Tab The Scale Bar Tab contains controls for modifying the display of the Scale Bar Control (located on the Information Toolbar at the bottom-left of the interface.) 1. Display Toggle - click to toggle visibility of the Scale Bar (on/off). 2. Scale Bar Attributes - menus and sliders to control how the Scale Bar appears when it is activated. PIXIA Corp. 39 Options Dialog: Cursor Tab The Cursor Tab contains options for changing the display of the Cursor Position Control (located on the Information Toolbar at the bottom-center of the interface). 1. Geo- coordinate System Menu: a. DD (Decimal Degrees); b. DMS (Degrees, Minutes, Seconds); c. MGRS (Military Grid Reference System). Click on the corresponding button to select the preferred coordinate system Toggle Controls The Toggle Controls button engages Expert Mode. Expert Mode is an alternate interface modality that offers an unrestricted view of the Map Viewport. While Expert Mode is engaged the standard interface elements are hidden so that the imagery can be viewed without obstruction. For more information, read the section about Expert Mode. PIXIA Corp. 41 3.3 The Information Toolbar Information Toolbar Elements The Information Toolbar displays information about the current Map Viewport. It contains in the following components: 1. Scale Bar Button - toggle the visibility of the Scale Bar Control. 2. Cursor Position - displays the Lat/Lon and MGRS coordinates of the cursor. 3. 42 3.3.2 Scale Bar Control The Scale Bar Control displays scale information of the current Map Viewport. 1. Scale Bar Button - click to reveal the Scale Bar Control. 2. Scale Bar Control - displays a Scale Line that can be used to gauge distance. 3. Scale Bar Events: a. Hover the cursor over the control to display the current Map Scale in the tooltip; b. Click the Scale Bar to launch the Scale Bar Options. * * Click the Arrow Icon to collapse the Scale Bar Cursor Position Control PIXIA Corp. Copyright 2016 PIXIA Corp. All rights reserved. Page 42
43 The Cursor Position Control displays the geographic coordinates of the cursor as it moves around the Map Viewport. To change the coordinate system used for this display, open the Options Dialog Box and click the "Cursor" tab Overview Map Control The Overview Map Control is a small map that is displayed in the bottom right corner of the UI. It is used display the extents of the Map Viewport, to provide context and to visualize the extents of the current Map Viewport in comparison to the World. In addition, it provides a secondary method for moving the Map Viewport. 1. Overview Map Button - click to toggle visibility of the Overview Map Control (on/off). 2. Overview Map Control - click and drag on the Extents Rectangle inside the Overview Map to reposition the Map Viewport. * * Click the Arrow Icon to collapse the Overview Map Control. PIXIA Corp. 49 3.5.5 Map Tool Buttons The Map Tool Buttons in the Context Menu operate the same as the Map Tool buttons located on the right of the Map Viewport. These buttons are useful to quickly access the Map Tool Panels when using the Map Viewer in Expert Mode Captured Coords Function Clicking on the Capture Coords Button (in the Context Menu) captures the coordinates at the location of the right-click and displays the Captured Coordinates Dialog Box. 1. Captured Coordinates - fields displaying the coordinates of the right-click event (coords are shown in DD, DMS and MGRS formats). 2. Buttons: a.
