1 Product Bulletin Issue Date March 17, 2003 Metasys Web Access Comprehensive information access at anytime and from any location: that is how the Metasys Web Access (MWA) software assists you in managing your integrated Building Automation System (BAS). Leveraging the communication capabilities of a corporate intranet or through the Internet, MWA provides an easy way to monitor and control your enterprise. Multiple users can monitor and control BAS operations simultaneously in a graphical format, explore the integrated networks exhaustively, perform complete alarm management, and do comprehensive trend analysis using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Metasys Web Access is an ideal solution for enhancing staff productivity and improving the accessibility of the BAS in any enterprise. Figure 1: Metasys Web Access Standard Web and Internet Technologies Features and Benefits Provide access to your integrated BAS from any computer with Microsoft Internet Explorer browser and an intranet or Internet connection Secured User Access Graphical Operation Network Navigation Alarm Management Trend Diagnostics Provides access control with both Windows 2000 User Authentication and M-Password Supports the complete graphical display and animation capabilities of M-Graphics for monitoring and commanding the BAS Accesses the entire integrated network and provides access to objects for commanding and scheduling activities with M-Explorer and M-Inspector; object grouping may be provided with M-Graphics. 2 Efficient Web Access Solution Metasys Web Access allows multiple users to access all integrated systems of the BAS simultaneously via a corporate intranet or the Internet. Once users log on to Metasys Web Access, they have complete access to your facility and can perform all day-to-day BAS operator activities. Users can securely and efficiently manage environmental comfort, energy consumption, and lighting control, and adjust control strategies to optimize system performance. Standard Web Technologies Users connect to MWA through common Internet browser technology. This means that essentially any computer, even one without Metasys software, can connect to Metasys Web Access. The MWA solution uses Microsoft Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server Operating System (OS) software with the Terminal Services feature enabled. Terminal Services allows multiple users to access MWA concurrently. This allows you to minimize the cost of maintaining your BAS software and it provides the flexibility to manage multiple users. The result is enhanced productivity and lower overall operational expenditures. Intuitive User Interface The Metasys Web Access solution provides an easy-to-use interface based on the information presentation paradigm of the M5 Workstation. Building operators can navigate easily with dynamic graphical displays through building areas and integrated systems of your facility. This allows operators to access and review the current operational conditions of your entire enterprise. By applying user interface concepts such as toolbars, point and click and drag and drop, MWA minimizes the training operators need for BAS operations. This provides users with rapid access and retrieval of information with minimal effort. Detailed information such as object details, trend graphs, alarm views, schedules, sequences of operation, diagnostic instructions, and more are all just a few clicks away. This simple and quick navigation delivers smooth transitions between and within applications. The easy-to-understand user interface format reduces training needs, encourages system use and productivity, lowers overall operational costs, and enhances the performance of your enterprise. Information Presentation Management MWA allows users to customize the look and feel of the user interface. Through the Screen Manager, users can quickly and easily create, modify, or recall multiple screen layouts with a few simple operations. Through user-defined templates, users can display multiple aspects of your enterprise simultaneously. These information presentation capabilities increase your staff s productivity by reducing search time for pertinent displays and learning time for new staff, enhancing the analysis of operational conditions, and allowing the integration of qualified third-party software applications. 2 Metasys Web Access Product Bulletin

3 Figure 2: Metasys Web Access - Screen Manager Exploring Integrated Networks Navigating anywhere throughout all integrated Metasys N1 networks or Metasys N30 networks is easy with M-Explorer and M-Inspector. M-Explorer, which users can access from any Web browser, provides a common viewer that allows a user to browse through the hierarchy of the BAS to view and analyze operating conditions. M-Explorer shows your N1 Personal Computer (PC) groups and N30 system groups in the left pane of the window. The right pane displays the contents of the selected item in greater detail. To assist proactively in identifying areas that need more user focus, M-Explorer displays dynamic values in the focus panel, and uses real-time color-coding to indicate object status conditions. This helps users identify objects that are in alarm, warning, override, or offline condition. Selecting N1 objects or N30 objects with a right mouse click invokes M-Inspector. M-Inspector displays the object configuration and conditions in more detail, and allows operators to view all object parameters, issue commands, access time schedules, and view N1 object point history. 4 Your facility operators can quickly manage the BAS using M-Explorer for daily operations. Since M-Explorer accesses several OLE for Process Controls (OPC) Data Access Servers, it provides a common interface for users to view the status of a facility even with multiple integrated networks throughout your enterprise. Figure 3: Metasys Web Access - M-Inspector 4 Metasys Web Access Product Bulletin

5 High Performance Graphics M-Graphics provides graphic visualization through all integrated networks. These displays have tremendous dynamics and animation capabilities. M-Graphics displays accessed by users through the Web browser provide the same contents as M-Graphics displays running on a local M-Series workstation, including advanced capabilities such as animation and linking ActiveX controls. Since the same M-Graphics files can be used throughout your facility, any updates made locally are automatically reflected when users access your system through the MWA application. The user can analyze the situation and quickly interact with the graphic display to make any necessary adjustments to resolve the problem and restore optimal operational performance. With the password authority provided by M-Password, graphics users can command objects and modify object attributes for interactive control. With M-Graphics, users can integrate Command windows, Focus windows, and Time Schedule windows into displays. One mouse click gives users powerful analysis tools such as trend displays, systems sequence of operation, diagnostic guidelines, and detailed equipment drawings. Through these graphic display capabilities, MWA software provides beneficial results to your operation. MWA does not require custom Web pages but presents MWA remote and local users with the same graphic displays, enhancing user productivity and confidence. 6 Trend Analysis M-Trend provides trend analysis for all integrated networks, with flexible and convenient options to perform trend diagnostics. M-Trend provides a powerful management tool to analyze historical operational characteristics, and it is accessible from Internet Explorer Web browser. Local MWA users perform the trend collector configuration tasks. Trend data collected from Network Control Modules (NCM) or from N30 Supervisory Controllers is archived in the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) compliant Access Historian database. The Access Historian database can reside on the computer where MWA is installed. Trend data sources can be from buffered trend logs in NCM and N30 supervisory controllers, from snapshot collections configured and managed by the operators, and from N1 Point History data. In all cases, data is automatically and periodically archived. No matter which method is used to collect data (buffered, snapshot, or fast-scan), the collected trend data can be archived together and displayed in combined M-Trend views for analysis on Internet Explorer Web browser. With M-Trend, a user can optimize energy consumption, diagnose potential problems before they occur, and reduce maintenance costs. Alarms and Events Management With M-Alarm, MWA provides a sophisticated alarm management and alarm-reporting tool designed to assist the operator in managing this critical function. When critical conditions occur, M-Alarm routes the alarms to the appropriate locations for immediate notification. From any Web browser, a user can use the Current Events Viewer to quickly scan the most recent conditions reported. An operator can, from the Web browser, acknowledge conditions and add comments/annotations detailing what was done to rectify the situation. M-Alarm also provides a logger to log/archive all conditions and related operator actions. The local MWA user configures the M-Alarm viewer and logger. From the Web browser, a user can view the historical conditions recorded and run special reports to analyze the sequence of events. sample1.htv - M-Trend File Edit View Query Help 15:05, 67.4 Sample Paul s Office.Value 131.Brad s Office.Value 132.Secretary Office.Value 133.Carolyn s Office.Value DegF :00 13:30 14:00 14:30 15:00 15:30 15 Wed Apr 98 Time For Help, press F1 NUM Figure 5: Metasys Web Access - M-Trend Graphical Format 6 Metasys Web Access Product Bulletin

7 Figure 6: Metasys Web Access - M-Alarm Event with Report View User Access A password system needs to prevent any unauthorized user access to the system. With M-Password, MWA provides a multilevel password access feature. M-Password allows users to have personal profiles that determine how they interact with the integrated network system. This profile determines with which building equipment, points, and commands they can interact, when they can access the system, and other user characteristics. Users can access the system from any Web browser, but M-Password user access rights only allow them to monitor and command the items to which they have access. User transactions are recorded so the system can be quickly reviewed to see how equipment was controlled, when alarms were acknowledged, and when setpoints were changed. In addition to M-Password, Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server provides another level of security. Each remote user must log on using Windows 2000 OS authentication. Assigned user access capabilities work in conjunction with other implemented security measures, such as access restrictions through firewalls.
