10 2 Chapter 1 Installation Installer Overview Options The installer allows you to specify which components you want to install: TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol This protocol consists of jar files which add CMI specific functionality to a previously installed TIBCO BusinessConnect console. Documentation TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol documentation, including the tib_bccmi_readme.txt file and release notes. The doc folder contains HTML and PDF folders. If you decide not to install documentation, the doc folder will not be present in the installation. Modes The installer allows you to run in different modes. Each mode is supported on all platforms. GUI Mode: In GUI mode, the installer presents panels that allow you to make choices about product selection, product location, and so on. When you invoke the installer by double-clicking on the icon, GUI mode is used. Console Mode: Console mode allows you to run the installer from the command prompt or terminal window. This is useful if your machine does not have a Windows environment. Silent Mode: Silent mode either installs using default settings or uses a response file that was saved during an earlier installation. Silent mode installs without prompting you for information. If no response file has been recorded earlier and you invoke the installer with the -silent argument, the default installation parameters are used. If a response file exists, and the installer is started with -options responsefilename as an argument, the installer uses the values specified by the user when the response file was generated.

11 Installation Prerequisites 3 Installation Prerequisites Before installing TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol, you must install TIBCO BusinessConnect and any prerequisite software for TIBCO BusinessConnect. You must also perform all post-installation activities, including creating a configuration store as described in the TIBCO BusinessConnect Server Administration Guide

12 4 Chapter 1 Installation Disk Space Requirements This section lists the temporary disk space requirements required to run the installer on Microsoft Windows and UNIX platforms. Windows During installation, the entire package is extracted into a temporary folder. 500 MB is required for the extracted package. In addition, the installer requires a Java virtual machine (JVM) to execute. The installer launcher searches for an existing JVM. If the JVM is not found or is the wrong version, the installer extracts a JVM to a temporary area and uses this JVM to launch itself. The free disk space required in the temporary area to hold the extracted JVM is 30 MB, in addition to the 500 MB required for the extracted package. The location of the temporary folder depends on the TMP environment variable. Typically, it is: c:\temp, or, c:\documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp. If your system does not have sufficient free disk space in the default temporary area, you can run the installer with a different temporary area by using the following option when starting the installer: -is:tempdir \new_tmp where \new_tmp has sufficient free disk space. UNIX During installation, the entire package is extracted into a temporary folder. 500 MB is required for the extracted package. The size of the extracted JVM differs from platform to platform; the free disk space required in the temporary area to hold the extracted JVM is: Solaris 50 MB in /var/tmp HP-UX 85 MB in /var/tmp HP Itanium 85 MB in /var/tmp AIX 30 MB in /tmp Linux 50 MB in /tmp If your system does not have sufficient free disk space in the default temporary area, you can run the installer with a different temporary area by using the following option when starting the installer: -is:tempdir /new_tmp where /new_tmp has sufficient free disk space. The free disk space to hold the extracted JVM is not required if the installer finds a supported version of the JVM on the system. This applies to all platforms. Disk Space Requirement in User's Home Directory On UNIX platforms when a regular (non-root) user installs a TIBCO product, the installation registry (two vpd files) is maintained in the user's home directory. See Installation Registry on page 6. As more products are installed, entries are added into these vpd files. The user's home directory must at least have 500 KB of free disk space.

14 6 Chapter 1 Installation Installation Registry The installer maintains an installation registry. The installation registry consists of two files prefixed with vpd, which stands for vital product database: vpd.properties vpd.properties.tibco.systemname Do not edit, modify, rename, or remove any of the registry vpd files. The location of the registry files depends on the operating system platform and who performs the installation. Microsoft Windows Platforms TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol maintains the installation registry in the SystemRoot folder. The following files represent the installation registry: SystemRoot\vpd.properties SystemRoot\vpd.properties.tibco.system_name Example: C:\WINDOWS\vpd.properties C:\WINDOWS\vpd.properties.tibco.system_name UNIX Platforms Root User Account If installation is performed by super-user (root), the installation registry files are stored in the following directories: Solaris, HP-UX, and HP Itanium Root user s home directory Linux /root AIX /usr/lib/objrepos

15 Installation Registry 7 Regular User Account If installation is performed by a regular user (non-root), the installation registry files are stored in the user's home directory: user_home_directory/vpd.properties user_home_directory/vpd.properties.tibco.systemname Installation History The installer creates an installation history file called TIBCOInstallationHistory.xml in the same directory that contains the installation registry files. Each time an installation or uninstallation is performed, entries are appended to the file. The file TIBCOInstallationHistory.xml therefore contains the record of all installation and uninstallation activities of all products, features and components. Do not edit, modify, rename, move, or remove the TIBCOInstallationHistory.xml file.

16 8 Chapter 1 Installation Required and Optional Software TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol requires TIBCO BusinessConnect software plus all the software required by TIBCO BusinessConnect. First install TIBCO BusinessConnect software with all other required TIBCO software packages, as well as supported databases: TIBCO Runtime Agent (required) TIBCO Administrator TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks TIBCO Enterprise Message Service (optional) Any required databases. Always verify the latest version updates supplied in the file tib_bccmi_readme.txt for your software release. Other Required Software You need a database to run TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol. For the updated list of supported databases and version numbers, see the file tib_bccmi_readme.txt for the specific release.

17 Installing on Microsoft Windows Systems 9 Installing on Microsoft Windows Systems Before starting the installation procedure, review the topics in this section to determine that your system meets the basic requirements and that you have the prerequisite software installed. Prerequisites The following is a list of prerequisites for installing TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol on Microsoft Windows systems. Refer to the file tib_bccmi_readme.txt for the complete and updated versions of the supported platforms. See Installation Prerequisites on page 3 and Disk Space Requirements on page 4 for additional requirements Installer Account You must have administrator privileges for the machine on which TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol is installed. If you do not have administrator privileges, the installer exits. You must then log out of the system and log in as a user with the required privileges, or request your system administrator to assign the privileges to your account. Installing on a Network Drive If you intend to install the product on a network drive, you must ensure that the account used for installation has permission to access the network drive. Installation Procedures You can either download the TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol installation package or install the components from a CD. The installer prompts you to accept the license agreement, and then to choose to perform a typical install or custom install. A typical install has minimal prompts and installs standard components in default locations. A custom install prompts you to choose which components of the product suite to install and installs only those components.

Double-click on the installation file, or type the following at the command prompt: TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_win_x86.exe Install Using Console Mode Console mode allows you to install the software in a non-windows environment. The installer will prompt you for values. Type the following at the command prompt: TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_win_x86.exe -is:javaconsole -console When running in console mode you can move through the installation process as described next: Enter Key = Performs default action; typically moves forward in the installer 2 = Goes back to previous screen 3 = Cancels the Wizard and exits the installation or uninstallation 4 = Redisplays the current screen Install Using Silent Mode Silent mode allows you to install the software without prompts. 19 Installing on Microsoft Windows Systems 11 Install and Generate a Response File During installation, you can generate a response file, which you can later use to invoke the installer with the selected values as default values (GUI mode) or as selected values (silent mode). To install and generate a response file, type the following at the command prompt: TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_win_x86.exe -options-record C:\directoryPath\responseFile The response file does not record selections at the component level. It does record all other selections: for example, which products you wished to install. Install Using a Response File You can use a previously generated response file for installation. For non-silent modes, the response file determines the defaults that are presented. For silent mode, the response file determines what will be installed. To install using a response file, type the following at the command prompt: TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_win_x86.exe -options C:\directoryPath\responseFileName Combining Installation Options You can combine the different installation options. For example, to install in silent mode using a response file, use: TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_win_x86.exe -is:silent -silent -options responsefilename To install using console mode and generate a response file, use: TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_win_x86.exe -is:javaconsole -console -options-record responsefilename Uninstalling Use one of the following procedures to uninstall TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol: Click Start > Programs > TIBCO > TIBCO Installation Manager In the TIBCO Installation Manager window, select TIBCO BusinessConnect CMI Protocol version and click the Uninstall button.

20 12 Chapter 1 Installation Click Start > Programs > TIBCO > TIBCO BusinessConnect n.n> Protocol - CMI > Uninstall Use Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Navigate to the _uninst directory located in the TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol home directory and invoke the Tibuninstall.exe program.

21 Installing on UNIX Systems 13 Installing on UNIX Systems Prerequisites The following is a list of prerequisites for installing TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol on UNIX systems. Refer to tib_bccmi_readme.txt for an updated list of the supported platforms. See Installation Prerequisites on page 3 and Disk Space Requirements on page 4 for additional requirements Installer Account TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol 1.0 can be installed by a regular (non-root) user and super-user (root). Different users can install the same product at different locations. Product dependencies at install time are resolved at user level through the installation registry maintained at user's home directory. See Installation Registry on page 6 for more information. Graphic Environment A graphic environment such as CDE or X Windows is required to run the installer in GUI mode. It is not required for a console installation. Installation Procedures After unpacking the software and accepting the license agreement, you can choose to perform a typical or custom installation. A typical installation has minimal prompts and installs standard components in default locations. A custom installation prompts you to choose which pieces of the product suite to install and installs only those components. If you are installing for the first time, you must specify the installation directory where the products in this product suite will be installed. The default installation directory depends on who performs the installation: For root users, the default installation directory is /BC_HOME/protocols/cmi.

22 14 Chapter 1 Installation For non-root users, the default installation directory is /myhome/bc_home/protocols/cmi, where myhome is the home directory of the user. If installing TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol on AIX, use a non-root user account. The UNIX installation packages are named TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_package_qualifier.bin. The values of package_qualifier for the supported platforms are listed in Table 1. For example, to install in silent mode using a response file, use: %./TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_package_qualifier.bin -is:silent -silent -options responsefilename To install using console mode and generate a response file, use: %./TIB_bccmi-simple_n.n.n_package_qualifier.bin -is:javaconsole -console -options -record responsefilename Post Installation All users must have read, write, and execute permissions for the following directories: $TIBCO_HOME/bc/version/bin $TIBCO_HOME/bc/version/log $TIBCO_HOME/tra/version/logs For example, if the protocol has been installed in the directory /opt/tibco, the user who installed TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol should execute the following commands: % chmod 777 /opt/tibco/bc/version/bin/ % chmod 777 /opt/tibco/bc/version/log % chmod 777 /opt/tibco/tra/version/logs In addition, the palettes directory ($TIBCO_HOME/bw/version/lib/palettes) must be writable by all users who will use TIBCO Designer. Users must have write permission for this directory to be able to use the Java activity's Compile button. Alternatively, change the Java activity's compilation directory by changing the value of java.property.javacode in the.tra file that is used to start TIBCO BusinessConnect (designer.tra for the TIBCO Designer or the appropriate.tra file for the engine if running from a deployment). Uninstalling If another product is dependent on the product you wish to uninstall, you will be informed that you must uninstall the other product first. Use one of the following procedures to uninstall this protocol: Navigate to the _uninst directory located in the home directory and invoke the Tibuninstall program. Run TIBCO Installation Manager, which is located in the TIBCO home directory. XWindows is required to run Installation Manager.

Before activating TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol, create the TIBCO BusinessConnect installation as explained in TIBCO BusinessConnect Server Administration Guide. To activate TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol 1. Click the TIBCO BusinessConnect link in the left panel. 2. Click the Manage Installation button in the right panel. 3. Select the CMI checkbox in the Activate Protocols area. 4. Click the Activate button. During activation, TIBCO BusinessConnect performs the following activities: Installs the protocol grammar in the configuration store. Updates protocol-specific resources. 27 Deploying the Protocol 19 Deploying the Protocol Before TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol can be used in B2B transactions, it must be deployed. To deploy the TIBCO BusinessConnect ConfigStore Management Interface Protocol, you must deploy TIBCO BusinessConnect (even if it has been previously deployed). Before deploying TIBCO BusinessConnect, you must first create a deployment configuration. See TIBCO BusinessConnect Server Administration Guide for information on how to create a deployment configuration. If TIBCO BusinessConnect is already deployed, undeploy it and deploy again. To deploy TIBCO BusinessConnect, do the following: 1. In TIBCO Administrator, click the Application Management > BusinessConnect > Configuration link in the left panel. 2. Click the Deploy button in the right panel. 3. Click OK. Deployability is now Synchronized and Deployment Status is Success, indicating that the instance is now deployed as shown in Figure 1.
