1 In the following lab instructions, you re going to install and license Kofax Capture, turn on User Tracking, review the product documentation, and prepare your system for the lab exercises in this course. Lab 3-1 Lab Installing Kofax Capture 10 These installation instructions are written to accommodate multiple Kofax Capture product delivery and installation options including classroom training, computerbased training (CBT) utilizing electronic downloads (ISO file), and on-demand training using Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. You will need to be logged in with Administrator permissions to the local system. 1. Classroom training Mount installation media based on your delivery option: Flash drive (classroom option) Insert the flash drive and navigate to and open the following directory: KC10.1Software. Computer-Based training (ISO file download) You will first either need to burn a DVD or optionally mount the ISO file as a virtual DVD. Then navigate to the root directory of Kofax Capture. On-demand training Remotely connect to your virtual machine using the instructions already provided to you and navigate to the D:\ drive. 2. Double-click on Autorun.exe. This action will open the installation menu. Click on Install Kofax Capture. 3. For Installation Type, select Standalone and [Next]. 4. Accept the Folder Location and click [Next]. 5. Accept the default database. 6. Accept the Site Name and Site ID and click [Next]. 7. For Station ID, enter your first name and click [Next]. 8. Accept the folder name and click [Next]. Click [Next]. 9. Select Auto Reboot. a. Classroom training For classroom systems, the password is typically left blank. b. 2 c. On-demand Training Enter the password for your machine and click [Next]. 10. Click [OK] for System File Update and the installation will start. Your system may reboot during installation. The auto reboot option will eliminate any logons. 11. After you reboot, the licensing window will be displayed. 12. License your system: a. Classroom training When prompted to do so, enter the serial number and product code directly from the software key card provided and click on [OK]. After a few moments, you should see a message box informing you that licensing was successful. Click [OK]. The Finalizing window displays followed by Installation Completed Click [Finish]. Congratulations! You ve successfully installed Kofax Capture 10. b. Computer-based training Click on [OK]. Because you have not inserted a USB license key, an Activating window appears only very briefly. Then the Activate window opens up automatically. You re going to use software licensing which should already be selected. Enter the serial number and product code that were furnished to you as part of your downloads into the license utility. Then click on the [Automatic] button. After a few moments, you should see a message box informing you that licensing was successful. Click [OK]. The Finalizing window displays followed by Installation Completed Click [Finish]. Congratulations! You ve successfully installed Kofax Capture 10. c. On-demand training Click on [OK]. Because you have not inserted a USB license key, an Activating window appears only very briefly. Then the Activate window opens up automatically. You re going to use software licensing which should already be selected. The software license for your remote lab machine is shown on the desktop as a shortcut to License.bmp. Open the file and notice that printed on license tag is a serial number and product code. Make a note of those numbers. Enter the serial number and product code into the license utility Then click on the [Automatic] button. After a few moments, you should see a message box informing you that licensing was successful. Click [OK]. The Finalizing window displays followed by Installation Completed Click [Finish]. Congratulations! You ve successfully installed Kofax Capture 10. 3 13. Now, let s create a desktop shortcut to the Kofax Capture program group. First, open Windows Desktop Explorer and browse to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. 14. Right mouse-click on the Kofax Capture 10.1 folder and select [Create Shortcut]. 15. Drag your new shortcut to the desktop and close Windows Desktop Explorer. 16. Highlight your new shortcut, right mouse click and select [Rename]. Rename your shortcut to Kofax Capture Now we ll give the folder shortcut a Kofax icon. Right mouse-click on the folder shortcut and select [Properties]. Click on the [Change Icon] button and browse to your flash drive (in the KC10.1Software folder) or DVD. Locate and double click on the Kofax.ico file to copy the logo into the shortcut properties window. Click [OK]. Click [OK] again. (You might have to right mouse click on your desktop and select Refresh for the icon change to take effect.) 18. Double click on the shortcut. From the More options menu item, select Medium Icons. The folder view will display the objects in the Kofax Capture program group as icons. 19. Install any Kofax Capture service packs (if applicable). a. Classroom training Your instructor will give you directions to install the latest Kofax Capture service pack. Note: You will receive a warning that running services will be shut down. This is normal and OK. b. Computer-based training Download the service pack using your web browser from Navigate to the Support section of the Web site using the primary navigation. Then navigate to Downloads and search by product: Kofax Capture 10. Scrolling down to the Service Packs section, click on the link associated with the last applicable service pack (if any). After unzipping the service pack, read the accompanying PDF file and install by double-clicking on the EXE file. Note: You will receive a warning that running services will be shut down. This is normal and OK. Repeat this procedure for the latest fix pack if applicable. c. On-demand training You will see a folder containing the latest service pack on your remote machine s desktop. Open the folder and read the accompanying PDF file and then install by double-clicking on the EXE file. Note: You will receive a warning that running services will be shut down. 4 Lab 3-2 Lab The Kofax License Utility 1. From the Kofax Capture Program Group, open the Kofax License Utility. 2. Notice that the Kofax License Utility displays your available licenses along with their associated available quantities and limits. 3. Note the expiration date. Also note that the Serial Number from your license key is displayed at the bottom of the window. The Server is the license server running on your system. The Port is the port that is being used for the server connection. 4. Note the timer window in the lower right corner of the window. The timer displays minutes and seconds since the last poll to the license server. 5. From the View drop down menu, select Refresh Rate. The default is 1 minute. Change the refresh to 0. This will stop the communications to the license server on a regular basis. Click on [OK] to close the window. 6. Close the Kofax License Utility window. 7. Open the Administration module from the Kofax Capture program group. You should now see the word Enterprise on the splash screen under the 10 version number. This is because your hardware key enables a Kofax Capture Enterprise version as part of your Kofax Capture Product Suite Evaluation license. 8. Close the Administration module. Lab 3-3 Lab User Tracking 1. Open Kofax Capture Administration. Click on the Tools tab, exposing the Tools panel. Click the Tracking icon, activating the User Tracking feature. Activity within your Kofax Capture application will now be captured. This data will be reviewed later in the class. 2. Close Administration. Lab KC10 3.doc Last Revision: 04/01/14 4

5 Lab 3-4 Lab Review Class Resource Flash Drive & Setup for Labs 1. Access the Class Resource flash drive (E:\ for on-demand students). Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the Class Resource flash drive. Copy the..\sample folder from the Class Resource flash drive to the root directory of your C: drive. After the copy is complete, right mouse-click on the C:\Sample folder and select Properties. Uncheck the Read Only attributes assigned to the folder. Click on [Apply] and select Apply changes to this folder, sub folders and files and click on [OK]. Click [OK] to finish. 2. Please note the following folders on the Class Resource flash drive: a. Lab instructions (PDF files). b. Patch Codes (contains a Word document with patch code graphics included) c. Reference Documents (contains a Glossary of Terms and other related reference materials) d. Power Points (contains all of the Power Point files for class) e. Student Guide PDFs (contains all the class binder files) Lab 3-5 Lab Review Documentation Directory 1. Launch Windows Desktop Explorer and open your Kofax Capture media (the Class Resource flash drive or DVD). 2. Browse to the Documentation directory (in the KC10.1Software folder if installing Kofax Capture from the Class Resource flash drive). 3. Double click on index.htm. This will launch your browser. 4. Please make note of all the documents available to you in PDF format. Notice also that Online Help for Kofax Capture, the Kofax Capture API Reference Guide and the Kofax Capture Export Type Library API Reference are also available. 5.
