1 This is the New Icon that will appear on your computer screen after the INSIGHT v8.1 software is installed. IMPORTANT: These instructions pertain to version INSIGHT v requires Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows XP. If you have Windows Vista you will need to upgrade to Windows 7 before installing INSIGHT v INSIGHT v8.1 Software Download Instructions STEP 1 How to Obtain the INSIGHT v8.1 Software Open your Internet browser and go to Enter your User ID & password Under the Membership Menu click Software & User Guide. Click on the icon and follow the prompts to download and save the INSIGHT zip file. Right click the zip file and choose Extract All to unzip the file. Make note of where the file is being extracted. DO NOT CLICK SET-UP at this time STEP 2 Change the Control Settings for Windows 7/8 Operating Users. Critical: For Windows 7/8, skipping this step may cause loss of data. Also, if you have been saving scans prior to this installation with User Account Control not set to Never Notify please call tech support before proceeding. If you are using Windows XP, skip this step and proceed to step REV C Page 1

2 For Windows 7 Click the Start Button in the lower left hand corner of the screen (it s the Windows icon). In the text box enter change user account control settings and hit ENTER. Move the slider on the left to the bottom of the scale where it says Never notify and click OK. For Windows 8 From the Start screen similar to the one shown below: If you are not at the Start Screen move the cursor to the lower left corner of the monitor until you see the Start Screen icon and then left click the mouse. Using your keyboard, enter Control Panel to access the Control Panel. Verify View by: Small Icons in the upper right hand corner of the Control Panel Click User Accounts Click Change User Account Control settings. Move the slider on the left to the bottom of the scale where it says Never notify and click OK. STEP 3 Updating your USB Power Settings via the Device Manager For Windows 8 From the Start screen similar to the one shown above Using your keyboard, enter Control Panel to access the Control Panel Verify in the upper right hand corner View by: Small Icons Click Device Manager REV C Page 2

3 For Windows 7 Click the Start Button in the lower left hand corner of the screen (it s the Windows icon). In the text box enter Device Manager and hit ENTER. For Windows XP Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager Expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" at the bottom of the list (click on the + sign) For every item listed under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" right click and choose properties. If there is a "Power Management" tab choose it. If not, skip and proceed to the next item. In the "Power Management" tab uncheck the "Allow the computer..." then click OK. Do this for all the items listed under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" STEP 4 Caution: Copy your Database files to a safe folder. A new folder on your desktop will suffice. You should always keep a backup of your data. If you re a first time user of the Insight, go directly to step 5. For Windows 7/8 64 bit go to: Computer > Local Disk(C:) > Program Files (x86) > CLA > Millennium For all others go to: Computer > Local Disk(C:) > Program Files > CLA > Millennium Copy all files of type MDB and place them in a folder on your desktop or on a Flash Drive. STEP 5 Install the New INSIGHT v Right click the setup.exe file that was extracted in step 1 and choose Run as administrator. Follow the prompts to install the program. NOTE: some prompts may be placed in the background by a prior prompt. It s best to minimize all unused windows to avoid this situation. After the program is installed you should have the new INSIGHT v8.1 icon on your desktop. STEP 6 Critical: Update INSIGHT v8.1 icon If you are using Windows XP, skip this step and proceed to step 7. Right click the icon. The following screen will be displayed REV C Page 3

5 Click Advanced. The following screen will be displayed REV C Page 5

6 Click the Run as administrator check box so that a check appears in the box. Then click OK. The following menu will be displayed REV C Page 6

7 Click Apply and then OK. When asked for administrative permission just click Continue STEP 7 Attach Your INSIGHT Unit to your computer Plug in your INSIGHT unit and attach the USB cable to your computer. Check to see that the LED light on the front panel of the INSIGHT unit is on. If it s on then you are ready to use your INSIGHT technology with the newest version of the software. Proceed to STEP 8. If it s off, please perform the following: a. For Windows 7/8 user: Go to the Device Manager as described above REV C Page 7

8 b. For Windows XP users: Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager c. Expand Other or Unknown devices. d. Right click on Insight Millennium 2 and choose Update driver software. e. Choose Browse my computer for driver software. For Windows 7/8 64 bit, in the textbox type the following C:\Program Files (x86)\cla\millennium\drivers Click next and follow the prompts to allow driver installation regardless of any Windows Security Warnings. For all others, in the textbox type the following C:\Program Files\CLA\Millennium\Drivers Click next and follow the prompts to allow driver installation regardless of any Windows Security Warnings. f. Once the driver is updated your INSIGHT LED light will come on REV C Page 8

9 STEP 8 - Start Your INSIGHT v8.1 In Windows 8, the Insight program must be run as administrator and can be started from two locations: Desktop Tiles (or the Start Screen) Below is an example of the Desktop: To start the Insight Program from the desktop double click the set to run as administrator as per the Installation instructions. icon. 10 Below is an example of the Start Screen When starting the Insight Program from the Start Screen you need to choose the run as administrator option. Enter Insight on your keyboard until you see a screen similar to the one below, right click on the Insight 8.1 box and then choose Run as administrator as shown below REV C Page 10

11 The first time that you start the program you ll be asked to enter your Membership Number (this was ed to you in a separate message from Membership@claCLARITY.com. If you did not receive this please call the office at If you have a bronze Clarity membership, just click CANCEL REV C Page 11
