The Asus P5LD2 motherboard will typically be found in docstar EP, SP, Workgroup, and Departmental systems. Part A: Configure motherboard BIOS The following configuration changes need to be made in the motherboard BIOS prior to entering Intel Matrix Storage Manager Utility: 1. Press the Delete key during POST to enter the BIOS setup. 2. Go to the Main Menu, select IDE Configuration, then press Enter. 3. Select the item Configure SATA As, then press Enter to display the configuration options. DocSTAR National Service Page 1 of 15

2 4. Select RAID from the options, then press Enter. 5. Select the item Onboard Serial-ATA BOOTROM, press Enter, then select Enable from the options. 6. Save you changes and exit the BIOS setup. Then proceed to Part B. Part B: Configure Intel RAID controller The following configuration changes need to be made in the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Utility: * NOTE: Creating an array will cause all data on the drives to be lost. Only proceed with the following steps if this is a new configuration. 1. During POST, press Ctrl-I when prompted to display the utility main menu. 2. Select Option 1.which says Create RAID Volume. 3. Give the array a name, for example: docstar, then press Enter. DocSTAR National Service Page 2 of 15

3 4. Select RAID1 (Mirror) for the RAID Level, then press Enter twice so that Create Volume is highlighted. 5. Press Enter when the Create Volume item is highlighted. The following message will appear. 6. Press Y to create the RAID volume and return to the main menu. 7. Press 4 to exit the utility. Asus NCLV-D2/SATA motherboard LSI RAID controller The following steps outline how to create/define a RAID1 array using the onboard LSI RAID controller that s integrated into the Asus NCLV-D2/SATA motherboard. The Asus NCLV- D2/SATA motherboard will typically be found in docstar SPX and Enterprise systems. Part A: Configure motherboard BIOS The following configuration changes need to be made in the motherboard BIOS prior to entering LSI Logic Embedded SATA RAID Setup Utility: 1. Press the Delete key during POST to enter the BIOS setup. 2. Go to the Main Menu, select IDE Configuration, then press Enter. 3. Set the Onboard IDE Operate Mode to Enhanced Mode. 4. Set the Enhanced Mode Support On item to S-ATA, then set the Configure S-ATA as RAID item to Yes. 5. Save your changes and exit the BIOS setup. Then proceed to Part B. Part B: Create array on the LSI Logic Embedded SATA RAID controller The following configuration changes need to be made in the LSI Logic Embedded SATA RAID Setup Utility: DocSTAR National Service Page 3 of 15

4 1. Press Ctrl-M when prompted to display the utility main menu. 2. From the utility main menu, highlight Configure and press Enter. 3. Select Easy Configuration and press Enter. 4. The Array Selection Menu displays the available attached drives. Add both drives 0 and 1 to the array by highlighting them and pressing the Space Bar. DocSTAR National Service Page 4 of 15

5 5. After both drives have been added to array, their status will change from READY to ONLIN A00-00 and ONLIN A Press F10,and then the Space Bar and then F10 again. The Logical Drive(s) Configured menu will then appear. 7. Select RAID from the Logical Drive menu and then select RAID1 as the RAID level. DocSTAR National Service Page 5 of 15

6 8. Select Accept in the Logical Drive menu and press Enter twice. 9. When prompted, select Yes to save the configuration. 10. A message will appear at the bottom of the screen that says Configuration is Saved. Press any key to Continue. Press any key at this point. 11. Press Esc once to return to the utility main menu. Then press Esc again to Exit the utility and reboot or proceed to Part C if this is a new configuration. Part C: Initialize array in LSI Logic Embedded SATA RAID controller * NOTE: Initializing the array will cause all data on the drives to be lost. 7 1. From the utility main menu, select Initialize and press Enter. 2. Press the Space bar to select Logical Drive 0, then press F10 to Initialize. 3. Select Yes and then press Enter to begin the Initialization. DocSTAR National Service Page 7 of 15

8 4. A progress bar will appear on the screen. 5. Press the Esc key after Initialization has completed. 6. Press the Esc key twice and then select Yes to exit the utility. Then press Cntl+Alt+Delete to reboot. Asus NCLV-D2/SATA motherboard Adaptec RAID controller The following steps outline how to create/define a RAID1 array using the onboard Adaptec RAID controller that s integrated into the Asus NCLV-D2/SATA motherboard. The Asus NCLV-D2/SATA motherboard will typically be found in docstar SPX and Enterprise systems. DocSTAR National Service Page 8 of 15

9 Part A: Adaptec SATA Controller Setting Verify that the onboard Adaptec AIC-8130 SATA Controller is enabled. The controller will be enabled when pins 1 and 2 are jumpered. Part B: Configure motherboard BIOS The following configuration changes need to be made in the motherboard BIOS prior to entering Adaptec RAID Configuration Setup Utility: 1. Press the Delete key during POST to enter the BIOS setup. 2. Go to the Advanced Menu, then select Chipset Configuration and press Enter. 3. Set the AIC-8130 BOOTROM item to Enabled. 10 4. Save your changes and exit the BIOS setup. Then proceed to Part C. Part C: Create array on the Adaptec SATA RAID Controller The following configuration changes need to be made in the Adaptec RAID Configuration Setup Utility: 1. Press Ctrl-A when prompted to display the utility main menu. 2. Select Array Configuration Utility and press Enter. 3. Select Create Array and press Enter. DocSTAR National Service Page 10 of 15

11 4. Add drives to the array by highlighting them and pressing the Insert button. Then press Enter to move to the Array Properties Menu. 5. Select RAID1 (Mirror) for the Array Type, then press Enter 6. Assign an Array Label, for example: docstar, then press Enter. 7 For the Create RAID via option, select Quick Init and then press Enter. * NOTE: Selecting Quick Init will cause all existing data on the drives to be lost. Only select Quick Init if this is a new configuration. DocSTAR National Service Page 11 of 15

12 8. Select Done and press the Enter button. 9. The follow message will appear, press any key to continue. The array will be created. DocSTAR National Service Page 12 of 15

13 10. The newly created array will be listed under Manage Arrays on the utility main menu 11. Press Esc twice to exit the utility, and then highlight Yes and press Enter. Promise SX8300 RAID PCI-X controller card The following steps outline how to create/define a RAID5 array using the Promise SX8300 RAID controller card. The Promise SX8300 card will typically be found in DocSTAR SPX, and Enterprise systems that include the RAID5 option. 1. Press Ctrl-F when prompted to enter the FastBuild Utility. 2. Select option 2, which says Define LD (Logical Drive). DocSTAR National Service Page 13 of 15

14 3. Select LD 1 and press Enter. 4. Select RAID5 for the RAID mode. Change Fast Init to ON, this will allow the controller card to initialize quicker. 5. Arrow down to the Drive Assignments section. This section will display all of the hard drives that are connected to the controller card. In this section, you must change the Assignment column from N to Y using the space bar to make a hard drive a member of the array. Note: The screenshot below shows 4 drives connected to the controller card. The most common DocSTAR configuration will contain 6 drives. In a 6 drive configuration, it is suggested that 5 of the 6 drives be members of the array and the remaining drive be a hot spare. To configure the array with a hot spare, change the assignment to Y on drives 1 thru 5, and then leave the assignment for drive 6 set to N. This configuration will give you a RAID5 array with 5 drives actively in the array and 1 hot spare. DocSTAR National Service Page 14 of 15

15 6. Press Ctrl-Y to save the configuration. 7. A prompt will appear stating Fast Initialization Option has been selected, It will erase the MBR data of the disks. <Press Ctrl-Y if you are sure you want to erase it> <Press any other key to ignore this option> * NOTE: Pressing Ctrl-Y will cause all existing data on the drives to be lost. Only press Ctrl-Y if this is a new configuration. If this is a new configuration, the suggested course of action is to press Ctrl-Y. This will result in a fresh clean MBR. 8. A prompt will appear stating Press Ctrl-Y to modify array capacity or press any other key to use maximum capacity. Press any other key at this point to use maximum capacity. 9.
