Note: The ThinPoint License Server provides Network Floating and Concurrent User Session Licensing. The ThinPoint Installer includes both the ThinPoint License Server and ThinPoint Host components. The ThinPoint License Server can be installed on the same Windows machine as the ThinPoint Host, or on a dedicated Windows machine for larger solutions when you like to use multiple machines as the ThinPoint host. If you are installing the ThinPoint License Server on a dedicated Windows machine, uncheck other ThinPoint Host components and click on Install. Please continue up-to step 8. If you are installing both the ThinPoint License Server and the ThinPoint host components (ThinPoint, PrintPoint and WebPoint) on the same Windows machine, check all components and click Install. Please continue from step 5. If you are not installing the ThinPoint License Server, uncheck License Server and click Install. Please skip to step 9. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide - 6 -

5. If you have selected to install the ThinPoint License Server component, you will be presented with the ThinPoint Network License Server Setup dialog box as shown below. By default the ThinPoint License Server will be installed listening on TCP port Please make sure this port is open on any active firewalls. You can change the server default listening TCP port to another valid TCP port if required. If you have changed the server listening port please remember to: Open the new TCP port on any firewalls. Change the corresponding TCP port for all ThinPoint Host installations in step 12 of this Guide. 6. The ThinPoint License Server by default is shipped with two (2) concurrent session evaluation user licenses. A maximum of 2 sessions can be connected at a time to all ThinPoint Hosts. These licenses will expire 30 days from the time of installation. 7. If you intend to try ThinPoint using the evaluation licenses, click on Evaluate ThinPoint to continue installation using ThinPoint evaluation licenses. The ThinPoint Installer will test the ThinPoint License Server briefly and then continue the installation process. 8. To purchase ThinPoint full licenses please visit the ThinPoint product page at: ThinPoint Quick Start Guide - 7 -

When you have purchased the required ThinPoint licenses please go to the computer you have installed the ThinPoint License Server on and browse to the Program files\thinpoint folder. Run LicenseServer.exe and the ThinPoint License Server dialog box will be displayed as shown above. In the Update ThinPoint Licenses section, provide the license ID and password you obtained when you purchased the ThinPoint licenses and click the Update Licenses button. You will be informed that the ThinPoint licenses were successfully updated. To verify that the licenses have activated properly, click the Verify Licenses button. The ThinPoint License Server will display the number of ThinPoint active concurrent session licenses as shown below: This guide is concluded here if you are installing only the ThinPoint License Server component. Otherwise, please continue reading. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide - 8 -

9. If you have selected to install the PrintPoint component, the ThinPoint Installer will install PrintPoint while displaying Deploying PrintPoint on the installer progress bar. PrintPoint simplifies printing for remote users while eliminating the tedious administrative burden of installing and maintaining remote device printer drivers on hosts. To accomplish this, a virtual printer called PrintPoint will be installed on the ThinPoint Host. Printing via PrintPoint in a ThinPoint session is almost the same as printing to a device-local printer, and just as easy: I. The user chooses the PrintPoint printer, while printing from any remotely published application, as shown below. II. After pressing Print, a PrintPoint dialog box will be momentarily displayed on the remote device desktop, displaying the remote print status as it is processed. III. The local printer dialog box will then be shown on the remote device desktop. The user chooses a local printer to print the document. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide - 9 -

Important Note: In windows clients, if Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed, it will be used by PrintPoint for the client side printing. In order for PrintPoint to function, the remote device must be using the ThinPoint Client or accessed via WebPoint. PrintPoint currently does not support the Linux and Mac clients. We are in the process of adding PrintPoint functionality to the Linux and Mac clients. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

10. If you have selected to install the WebPoint component, the ThinPoint Installer will install WebPoint while displaying Deploying WebPoint on the installer progress bar. Using WebPoint you can connect to the ThinPoint Host via the web. Important Note: WebPoint currently primarily supports Windows 32-bit client operating systems. Support for other client operating systems is provided with the following limitations: Intel Apple Mac OS X 10.4 and above are supported. A functional X11 is required for Mac clients to access ThinPoint Host using WebPoint. ThinPoint Seamless Windowing functionality is limited for Mac. When connecting from a Linux client using Firefox 3, WebPoint complains that the Java runtime is not installed. Please use another browser, such as Opera, while we rectify this issue. The latest Java runtime environment is required for all of the Windows, Linux and Mac clients. Please make sure to add the IP address or fully qualified hostname of the ThinPoint Host machine to the Trusted Sites (or equivalent) of Internet Explorer or other web browser before connecting to ThinPoint from a Windows client. This is specially required when using a Vista client to connect. TCP ports 80 and 3389 are required to connect to ThinPoint using WebPoint. Port 80 is required to access the WebPoint webpage. Port 3389 is used to connect the client to the ThinPoint session. 11. The ThinPoint Installer will install the WebPoint Web Service listening on port 80 and automatically add this port to the exception rules of the ThinPoint Host Windows Firewall. Important Note: If you already have a web server or application listening on port 80 on the ThinPoint Host machine, please change the WebPoint listening port after the installation process is finished. You can find the WebPoint listening port specified in the following Windows registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ThinPoint\Web Desktop in the registry value Ports. Please change the number 80 to a different port number which you would like the WebPoint Web Service to listen on. Make sure the new TCP port is open and allowed on the ThinPoint Host machine's firewall. Reboot the machine to activate the port change. If you have changed the default WebPoint listening port, append :portnumber to the end of the ThinPoint host address when using the browser or other method to access WebPoint. A quick WebPoint user guide is provided at the end of this guide. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

12. If you have chosen to install the ThinPoint Host components and the ThinPoint License Server is being installed on a separate machine, you will be presented with the ThinPoint Host Settings dialog box as shown below. Important Note: If the ThinPoint License Server and the ThinPoint Host components are being installed on the same machine, the ThinPoint Installer will automatically include the correct settings without showing the following dialog box. Please skip to step 13 now. Fill in the License Server IP Address to be the IP address of the machine that has the ThinPoint License Server component installed and the License Server TCP Port Number as the same TCP port number you entered in step 5. Test the connection to the ThinPoint License Server by clicking the Test Connection button. You should see Passed for both IP Access and Port Access. The ThinPoint Host Settings dialog box will display further details if the test connection to the ThinPoint License Server failed for any reason. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

13. ThinPoint Application provisioning engine requires Microsoft.NET Framework to function. The ThinPoint Installer at this stage will try to download and install the Framework from the Microsoft website. A dialog box like the one below will be shown. Click Yes to continue. If the Microsoft website is not accessible, the ThinPoint Installer with continue the setup and install a.net re-distributable Framework which is included in the ThinPoint Installer executable. 14. Shortly after finishing installation of Microsoft.NET Framework, the ThinPoint Installer will prompt you to reboot your machine to complete the installation process. Please close all your applications before pressing Yes. This concludes the setup of the ThinPoint License Server and the ThinPoint Host components. Please make sure to read the ThinPoint Desktop Virtualization and Application Publishing Guide before using the ThinPoint solution. Also you can find a quick WebPoint user guide at the end of this document. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

ThinPoint Desktop and Application Virtualization ThinPoint Remote Application Provisioning Engine: Using ThinPoint Remote Application Provisioning Engine you can seamlessly publish Windows XP and Vista programs to remote clients or via WebPoint WebDesktop to the Web. Here is a quick guide explaining how this works: 1. Using an Administrator user account, go to the Control Panel. ThinPoint and NetLeverage are Trade Marks of NetLeverage Pty Limited ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

2. Double click on the ThinPoint Control Panel icon. The ThinPoint Remote Application Panel appears, as displayed below. The icons displayed in the Panel are from a sample system. 3. Right-click inside the white area of the Panel to bring up a context-menu, populated with the Add, Edit, and Delete action items, as shown below. Choose Add to publish a new application. An already published application can be modified by right-clicking its icon and choosing Edit, or deleted by choosing Delete. Modifying a published application can also be done by double-clicking its icon. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

4. After clicking Add the New application details... dialog box will appear, as shown below. This dialog box prompts you to enter information about the application to be published, such as the name of the application, the path to the executable file, the startup folder, and the users and groups for which this application is published. If a user or group has only one application published for it, then that application becomes the default application for that user or group. An example using the Internet Explorer application is provided below to explain the new application publishing process in detail. As seen in the text input below Users, everyone can access the application. In order to restrict access to certain groups or users, click on Users. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

5. When you click Users, the Select Users or Groups dialog box appears, as shown below. 6. From here, you can choose to search among Users, Groups, and Built-in security principals, or limit the search to a combination of the three types, by clicking the Object Types button. Multiple locations can be added to the search, including from the Microsoft Active Directory, by clicking the Locations button. You can also click on Advanced to get an advanced search view as shown below. Find Now can be used in advanced search to manually select individual users and groups to add from the search results. 7. In advanced search view, select the users and groups you want to grant access to the application by holding down the Ctrl key and left-clicking their names. When done, press OK to exit advanced search view. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

8. Click OK again to close the Select Users or Groups dialog box. Make sure you remove the everyone group shown in this example. Otherwise, everyone will be able to access the application. 9. The Arguments field specifies the command line arguments to be passed to the application's executable at run-time. In the example shown below, we use so each time an instance of Internet Explorer is started, it opens up our company website. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

10. The Associations field can be used to associate document types on the remote devices with published applications from a ThinPoint Host. An association is specified by typing its file extension, without the period. For instance, in this example, typing html (without quotes) into the Associations field would result in all files with a.html extension on the remote device being redirected to the ThinPoint Host and being opened with Internet Explorer running on the ThinPoint Host, while being displayed on the remote device's desktop. A more practical example would be to publish a presentation application, like Microsoft PowerPoint from a ThinPoint Host. A ppt association could be published in the Associations field of this application. This would enable all remote devices to work with.ppt Microsoft PowerPoint files without having to install Microsoft PowerPoint or compatible software. File types already associated with an application installed on the remote device will not be redirected to the ThinPoint Host. For this feature to function, the remote device will need to connect using the ThinPoint Client. Multiple file extensions can be specified in the Associations field by separating them with a comma. Do not include any spaces. 11. Check Run Native to run the application in Seamless Windowed mode on the remote device desktop. In Seamless Windowed mode, the application looks and feels as if it is running on the remote device's desktop rather than running remotely from the ThinPoint Host. For Seamless Windowing to function, the remote device will need to connect using the ThinPoint Native Client. 12. You can specify the resource utilization for processes launched by this application with the Resource Limit slider. If the Resource Limit is 0% then the program will run with no resource limits. If the Resource Limit is set to 20% then the maximum system resource usage for that process is limited to 20% per user per session. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

WebPoint Quick User Guide Using WebPoint you can access the ThinPoint Desktop sessions and provisioned applications via Web by using your favorite Web Browser. ThinPoint and NetLeverage are Trade Marks of NetLeverage Pty Limited ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

To use WebPoint, please follow the steps below: 1. Open your Internet browser client and connect to the hostname or IP address of the ThinPoint host. When connected, you will be presented with the following web page asking for the WebPoint session username and password. 2. This username and password are the same as the Windows Desktop user credentials, created locally on the ThinPoint Host machine using the User Accounts applet in the Control Panel, or the credentials of the Active Directory or e-directory user account if the ThinPoint Host is part of a domain. Important Note: Windows user accounts with blank passwords are not allowed when using ThinPoint. Please make sure the user password is not blank before trying to connect to the ThinPoint Host remotely using any connection method, including WebPoint. 3. After WebPoint has authorized the user credentials, WebPoint starts preparing the client desktop to connect to the ThinPoint session ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

Important Note: While preparing the client desktop, if WebPoint displays an error as shown below or with a similar error number, it indicates the lack of adequate permissions for WebPoint to prepare the client. Usually, it indicates that the IP address or hostname of the ThinPoint Host was not added to the client Internet Explorer's or other web browser's Trusted Sites or equivalent. Please add this setting before trying again. 4. When preparing the client is completed, the ThinPoint session is initiated in seamless mode. You will then be presented with a Windows look-a-like desktop inside your client browser window with a number of application icons. These applications are published from the ThinPoint Host using the ThinPoint Application Provisioning Engine as discussed before on this guide in the ThinPoint Application and Desktop Virtualization chapter. You will notice that the WebPoint WebDesktop includes its own Start Menu, Log Off button and background wallpaper. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

Important Note: The three icons at the top-center of the screen are from left-to-right: Toggle between the Remote and Local Desktop (when the Remote Desktop is run), Disconnect from the Remote ThinPoint Session without Logging Off, Logoff from the Remote Session 5. The screenshot below shows a remote Internet Explorer published from a Windows XP host running in seamless mode inside WebPoint. Please notice the remote application integration with the local desktop taskbar. If the remote application window is minimized, it will be neatly stacked to the WebPoint WebDesktop taskbar and also to the taskbar of the local desktop as if it was a locally running application. It feels and looks exactly the same as a local application. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

6. When you minimize the local WebPoint WebDesktop Internet Explorer window, you notice the local Windows Vista Desktop and the remote Internet Explorer published from a ThinPoint Windows XP host running in seamless mode, as seen below. 7. While connected via WebPoint or any other method from a Windows client, the remote applications published from the ThinPoint Host will be added to the client Start Menu. You can also access these applications using a ThinPoint Application Menu added to the Taskbar Notification Area of the Windows client, as seen in this screenshot: ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

8. For security reasons, all the remote ThinPoint application menus are removed when the session is logged off or disconnected. 9. WebPoint Single-Sign-On 9.1 WebPoint introduces a Single-Sign-On feature that dramatically simplifies connectivity to the ThinPoint session. To use the WebPoint Single-Sign-On feature, please follow the steps bellow: 9.2 As shown on the screenshot above, upon a successful connection to ThinPoint session via WebPoint all the Remote Application icons automatically will be added to the client Desktop Start Menu. 9.3 You can find these Application items under Start -> All Programs -> ThinPoint Published Applications 9.4 While connected to the ThinPoint session using WebPoint, browse to ThinPoint Published Application program menu, move your mouse over a remotely published application program item, click and hold the left mouse button and then drag and drop the program item to your local machine s Desktop. 9.5 A program shortcut with the remote application icon very similar to any other Windows shortcut will be created on your local Desktop. 9.6 Now please logoff from the WebPoint session. You could do this using the WebPoint WebDesktop logoff button, the logoff button on top-center of the screen or ThinPoint menu on your local client s Desktop notification area. 9.7 After the ThinPoint session is totally logged off, all of the remote ThinPoint Application items, except the shortcut you have just created above on item 9.3 will be removed from your local Desktop 9.8 Now please run this shortcut. In a short while you will be connected to the ThinPoint session. 9.9 Please note that ThinPoint didn t require the user credentials to connect you to the session. This connection method uses the WebPoint Single-Sign-On feature to allow credential caching to connect you to the session Please also note that the remote Application corresponding to shortcut will be automatically started upon connection From now on you can use this shortcut to connect to the corresponding ThinPoint Remote Application without having to use the browser and WebPoint first You could repeat these steps to create shortcuts to access any number of ThinPoint Published Applications To logoff after using the ThinPoint Published Application, please use the logoff button on topcenter of your Desktop or use the logoff button of ThinPoint program menu located on your local desktop notification area. It feels and looks exactly the same as a local application. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

9. While connected, the remote applications published from the ThinPoint Host will be added to the client Start Menu. You can also access these applications using a ThinPoint Application Menu added to the Taskbar Notification Area of the Windows client desktop, as seen in this screenshot: 10. For security reasons, all the remote ThinPoint application menu shortcuts are removed when the ThinPoint session is logged off or disconnected. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

To use ThinPoint client on Linux operating systems, please follow the steps below: 1. Copy and install ThinPointLinuxClient noarch.rpm on the Linux client you would like to use to access the ThinPoint sessions. You can download the client directly from NetLeverage site using the following link: Important Note: ThinPoint Linux client is tested on OpenSuse 11.1 with dependencies to KDE Desktop technology and libqt4 and libqt4-x11 libraries. You can only install the ThinPoint client on Linux versions which support RPM package installer. Currently PrintPoint is not supported in Linux client. When connecting from a Linux client, you could use CUPS or similar methods to allow Linux client printing. For more details about different methods please visit the following page: 2. After installing the ThinPoint Linux client, you could access this program by browsing to System -> Remote Access -> ThinPoint Client as shown below: ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

3. Upon running ThinPoint client you will be presented with the following dialog-box: 4. Provide IP address or hostname of the ThinPoint host in the address input field. Important Note: If the default listening port of the ThinPoint host is changed, please append :portnumber (example :3380) immediately without any space to the end of IP address or hostname of the remote host. 5. Provide the Windows username in the Username input field. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

6. Please provide the Windows username password in the Password input field and then press Connect. Important Note: Windows user accounts with blank passwords are not allowed when using ThinPoint. Please make sure the user password is not blank before trying to connect to the ThinPoint Host remotely using any connection method, including ThinPoint client and WebPoint. 7. Use these shortcuts to Logoff or disconnect from ThinPoint session. The three icons at the top-center of the screen are from left-to-right: Minimize active Remote Application Window, Disconnect from the Remote ThinPoint Session without Logging Off, Logoff from the Remote Session ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

9. Screenshot below shows a remote Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office Excel published from a Windows XP ThinPoint host running in seamless mode inside the Linux Client Desktop. Please note the remote application integration with the local desktop taskbar. When the remote application window is minimized, it will be neatly stacked to the taskbar of the local Linux Desktop as if it was a locally running application. It feels and looks the same as a local application. 10. For security reasons, all the remote ThinPoint application shortcut icons are removed when the ThinPoint session is logged off or disconnected. Reverse Document-Streaming 11. ThinPoint technology introduces a new method of Application Publishing called: Reverse Document Streaming. Using this method any document residing on the Linux client desktop or assessable to the Linux client machine could be displayed using a designated and compatible Published application on the ThinPoint host. 12. To use this feature; first the document extension needs to be associated with a Published ThinPoint Application. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

13. To associate a document extension with a Published ThinPoint Application, please carefully study Paragraph 10 of the ThinPoint Desktop and Application Virtualization chapter. 14. As an example; given you have already installed Microsoft Office Excel 2007 on the ThinPoint host, during Application Publishing you could associate XLSX (extension for Excel version 2007 documents) with excel.exe. 15. Now imagine you have a document called worktest.xlsx residing in a folder of your Linux client desktop. See the screenshot below: ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

16. When you are connected to the ThinPoint session and XLSX extension has already been associated with excel.exe, when you click and run worktest.xlsx on your Linux client, ThinPoint first streams the worktest.xlsx data file to a shared memory accessible to the ThinPoint host and then it uses published excel.exe on the ThinPoint host to display worktest.xlsx document. Please see the screenshot below: Important Note: ThinPoint client side document association will fail if the document is already associated with an application already installed on the client machine. For instance going back the above example, if Open office or other software capable of running XLSX files was already installed on the Linux client, XLSX extension would be associated with this locally installed software. When worktest.xlsx was clicked, locally installed software would run worktest.xlsx and prevent ThinPoint from running it using the remote Microsoft Excel. Depending on available network upload bandwidth to the ThinPoint host, Published application could become unresponsive while the document data is streamed to the session s shared-memory. This is a normal behavior; please wait till the application is responsive again. For security reasons it s strongly recommended to install appropriate antivirus software on the ThinPoint host to scan uploaded documents in real-time before running these files. Majority of the currently available AV software support onaccess scanning required for real-time scanning of documents. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

17. You can use Reverse Document Streaming to run any number of associated documents using compatible ThinPoint published applications. Please see the screenshot below showing text.docx and worktest.xlsx run by remote Microsoft Word and Excel concurrently. Updated documents will be saved in the original location. ThinPoint Quick Start Guide

18. ThinPoint Reverse Application Streaming technology is fully integrated with the Linux client Desktop. You could also use the open with Linux Desktop context menu by right clicking on the document to run the document using the Remote ThinPoint Application. See the screenshot below: Thank you for your interest using ThinPoint solution. This guide is concluded here. -END OF THINPOINT QUICK START GUIDE- ThinPoint Quick Start Guide
