5 Chapter 1 Welcome SMART Meeting Pro Premium collaboration platform is a productivity application designed specifically for business. It allows you to hold effective meetings using your SMART interactive product. When used with SMART Bridgit software, you can collaborate using multiple computers and interactive whiteboards locally or remotely. About This Guide This guide explains how to install SMART Meeting Pro Premium, and then configure and maintain the installation. This guide is intended for IT administrators and others experienced with installing, configuring and administering Windows software in a networked environment. To use this guide you must: Know IT terminology, such as registry and domain controller Know how to complete basic administrative tasks in Windows operating systems, such as opening Control Panel and modifying the registry Have administrative privileges and access to your company s servers Have access to the SMART Support website

6 2 CHAPTER 1 WELCOME About SMART Meeting Pro Premium SMART Meeting Pro Premium collaboration platform includes SMART Product Drivers (formerly SMART Board drivers), which translate screen contact into mouse behavior. When you install SMART Meeting Pro Premium on a computer connected to a SMART interactive product, such as an interactive whiteboard or flat-panel display, you have touch control of the computer as soon as the computer starts. SMART Meeting Pro Premium integrates with SMART Bridgit software and multiple display management. To take advantage of SMART Meeting Pro Premium room-toroom meetings, and to include local and remote participants in your meeting, you must have network access to a SMART Bridgit Server. If you install SMART Meeting Pro Premium software using the standard features, the SMART Meeting Pro icon your computer. appears in the notification area whenever you start NOTE If you see in the notification area, your SMART interactive product isn t working properly or isn t connected. IMPORTANT Before you begin using your interactive product, you must be able to see the computer image on it. If you are using an interactive whiteboard, make sure your projector or flat-panel display is turned on. If you are using a SMART Podium (formerly Sympodium ) interactive pen display, be sure it is turned on and the video cable from your computer is properly connected. If you are not using a projector, use the software in non-projected mode. About SMART Product Drivers SMART Product Drivers enables computers to work with SMART Board interactive whiteboards or other SMART products. The drivers include a variety of software tools you can use with your SMART products. SMART Product Drivers is a separate installation package.

7 Chapter 2 Installing SMART Meeting Pro Premium You can install SMART Meeting Pro Premium and SMART Product Drivers using the installation wizard or the command line interface. Regardless of which tool you use, review the information in this chapter before proceeding with the installation. About Installing the Software To install the software, you must complete the following stages: 1. Obtain a product key. 2. Confirm you have network access to a SMART Bridgit Server to use collaboration features. 3. Install SMART Meeting Pro Premium. 4. Orient your SMART interactive product. 5. Activate SMART Meeting Pro Premium. 6. Optionally, configure Display Controller.

8 4 CHAPTER 2 INSTALLING SMART MEETING PRO PREMIUM Minimum Requirements Before installing SMART Meeting Pro Premium, ensure your company s computers meet the following hardware and software requirements. For 1 or 2 display systems: Operating system Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 Processor 2.0 GHz dual core processor, or faster (quad core recommended) Memory 1 GB of RAM for Windows XP, 2 GB of RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7 (4 GB recommended) Video cards Discrete 128 MB VRAM and support for DirectX 9 technology Hard drive 1 GB of free hard disk space for minimum installation (additional free space required during installation) Internet connection 10 Mbps network connection (100 Mbps recommended) supporting TCP/IP For multiple display systems (up to 16 displays): Operating systems Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 (disabling Advanced Aero theme recommended) Processor 3.0 GHz quad core processor, or faster Memory 4 GB of RAM, or more Video cards Discrete 256 MB VRAM and support for DirectX 9 technology Hard drive 1 GB of free hard disk space for minimum installation (additional free space required during installation) Internet connection 10 Mbps network connection (100 Mbps recommended) supporting TCP/IP NOTE If you want to use the Display Controller to control how and when your display device is turned on or off, or is put to sleep (see page 28), you must have an available RS-232 serial port for each display device.

9 5 CHAPTER 2 INSTALLING SMART MEETING PRO PREMIUM Selecting an Installation Tool You can customize the installation packages using one of the following tools: Installation wizard Command line interface Use the installation wizard if you re installing the software on a small number of computers. To download the software, go to and then click the SMART Meeting Pro link. Alternatively, use the command line interface and.msi installation packages (also known as.msi files) that you download from and Windows Installer installation and configuration service. Windows Installer is the engine for managing the installation of software on Windows operating systems. It applies a set of centrally defined setup rules. In addition, you can use this service to modify, repair or remove an existing application. You can use Windows Installer alone. Alternatively, you can use it in conjunction with remote management and software deployment tools, such as Windows Server Group Policies, to automate the installation of software across your company s network. For more information, see the user s guide for your third-party software. Before Installing the Software Before installing SMART Meeting Pro Premium, ensure that you have the following information available. Your Software Product Key When you order a SMART Meeting Pro Premium license, SMART sends you an that includes the product key you need to activate the software and to use the software with one, two, or multiple displays (up to 16). If you don t have a product key, you can use the software for a 30-day trial period. To continue using SMART Meeting Pro Premium, purchase and activate a product key for the software before the evaluation period expires. Your SMART Bridgit Server Address and Password To use the collaboration features of SMART Meeting Pro Premium, you must have access to an available SMART Bridgit Server. Contact your network administrator or SMART Technologies for information.

10 6 CHAPTER 2 INSTALLING SMART MEETING PRO PREMIUM Your SMTP Server Domain Name or IP Address (Optional) Omitting this option disables your interactive whiteboard s File > Send to > Mail Recipients feature. About Upgrading from a Previous Version When you install SMART Meeting Pro Premium, the software automatically removes older versions of the current drivers, and then installs the compatible SMART Product Drivers before updating to SMART Meeting Pro Premium. You don t need to manually remove previous versions before upgrading. NOTES Record the current SMART Meeting Pro settings, such as the SMART Bridgit Server domain name, the creation password and the server name, because you may need to re-enter this information when you install SMART Meeting Pro Premium. You don t have to reactivate SMART Meeting Pro Premium, because your computer retains the activation key information. SMART Bridgit 2010 Server Upgrade In order to take advantage of the integrated collaboration capabilities of SMART Meeting Pro Premium, you must have access to a SMART Bridgit 2010 Server. To download SMART Bridgit Server software, go to and then click the SMART Bridgit software link. Locating Language Files If you re planning to install SMART Meeting Pro Premium or SMART Product Drivers in a language other than English (U.S.), ensure the corresponding.mst file for that language is in the same folder as the.msi file. 11 7 CHAPTER 2 INSTALLING SMART MEETING PRO PREMIUM Handwriting Recognition Language Installation Packages If you want to enable handwriting recognition in a language other than English, you must download and install the installation package for the language. 13 Chapter 3 Using the Installation Wizard After you gather the information listed on page 5, you re ready to install the software. Use the installation wizard if you re manually installing SMART Meeting Pro Premium on one computer at a time. Locating the Software To access the installation wizard, go to click the SMART Meeting Pro Premium link and click the Download button. The SMART Meeting Pro Premium software includes these components: SMART Product Drivers 10.6 SMART Meeting Pro Premium Visual C SP1 redistributable NOTES SMART Meeting Pro Premium requires SMART Product Drivers No earlier releases of SMART Product Drivers or SMART Board drivers are supported. To simplify this, SMART Product Drivers 10.6 is included in the software download. The software automatically installs SMART Product Drivers before SMART Meeting Pro Premium.

14 10 CHAPTER 3 USING THE INSTALLATION WIZARD Installing the Software To install or upgrade the software 1. Double-click the installation wizard icon. The SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation wizard appears. 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. The wizard installs SMART Product Drivers, Visual C SP1 redistributable and SMART Meeting Pro Premium. The wizard also allows you to choose one or more handwriting recognition language options. Completing Your Software Installation Before you can use SMART Meeting Pro Premium, you must orient your SMART interactive product (see page 25), and then activate your software (see page 25) if you didn t activate it during the installation. Removing the Software To remove the software You can remove SMART Meeting Pro Premium, SMART Product Drivers and the Visual C SP1 redistributable using the Add or Remove Programs utility in the Windows Control Panel.

15 Chapter 4 Using the Command Line Interface After you gather the information listed on page 5, you re ready to install the software. The installation packages (also known as.msi files) contain all of the information that Windows Installer requires to install, upgrade or remove SMART Meeting Pro Premium and SMART Product Drivers. Run the.msi files from a command prompt to start Windows Installer and install or modify the software using available properties and parameters. NOTE By following the procedures in this chapter, you will use Windows command prompt interface to install or remove a single instance of SMART Meeting Pro Premium. If you want to use imaging or remote management tools to install multiple instances of SMART Meeting Pro Premium, refer to those tools documentation for instructions. Locating the Installation Packages There are three installation packages (known as.msi files) for SMART Meeting Pro Premium: Installation Package SMART Product Drivers SMART Meeting Pro Premium File Name SMART Product Drivers.msi SMART Meeting Pro Premium.msi Visual C SP1 redistributable vc_red.msi Go to click the SMART Meeting Pro Premium link, and then download these packages. IMPORTANT Install the Visual C SP1 redistributable package before installing SMART Product Drivers.

16 12 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE Installing or Upgrading the Software Follow these instructions to install or upgrade SMART Meeting Pro Premium, the Visual C SP1 redistributable, SMART Product Drivers and handwriting recognition in languages other than English. IMPORTANT Install SMART Product Drivers before installing SMART Meeting Pro Premium. Otherwise, the SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation may fail (without warning, if you re running it in Silent mode). If you use a Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system, you must open a Command Prompt window in Elevated mode with full administrator rights. To install or upgrade SMART Product Drivers 1. Open a Command Prompt window. 2. Type the following command: msiexec /i "[Path to the MSI file]" [Properties] [Parameters] Where: [Path to the MSI file] is the complete path to the SMART Product Drivers MSI file (for example, \\Installs\SMART Product Drivers\ SMART Product Drivers.msi). [Properties] is a set of properties you can include to customize the installation (see page 17). Property names are case sensitive. [Parameters] are options you include to specify how to complete the installation (see page 23). 3. Press ENTER. Windows Installer installs or upgrades SMART Product Drivers. To install the Visual C SP1 redistributable 1. Open a Command Prompt window. 2. Type the following command: msiexec /i "[Path]\vc_red.msi" [Parameter] Where: [Path] is the path to the vc_red.msi file. [Parameter] is the installation parameter (see page 23). 3. Press ENTER. Windows Installer installs the Visual C SP1 redistributable.

17 13 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE To install or upgrade SMART Meeting Pro Premium 1. Open a Command Prompt window. 2. Type the following command: msiexec /i "[Path to the MSI file]" [Properties] [Parameters] Where: [Path to the MSI file] is the complete path to the SMART Meeting Pro Premium MSI file (for example, \\Installs\SMART Meeting Pro Premium.msi). [Properties] is a set of properties you can include to customize the installation (see page 17). Property names are case sensitive. [Parameters] is one or more options you include to specify how to complete the installation (see page 23). 3. Press ENTER. Windows Installer installs or upgrades SMART Meeting Pro Premium according to your specifications. Installing Handwriting Recognition Languages SMART Meeting Pro Premium and SMART Product Drivers include handwriting recognition in English by default. If you want to enable handwriting recognition in a language other than English, follow the procedure below. To install handwriting recognition in a language other than English 1. Open a Command Prompt window. 2. Type the following command: msiexec /i "[Path]\[File]" /q Where: [Path] is the path to the handwriting recognition.msi file. [File] is the name of the handwriting recognition.msi file for the desired language (see page 7). 3. Press ENTER. Windows Installer installs handwriting recognition in the specified language. NOTE This can take several minutes with no indication of activity or completion.

18 14 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE Installing Service Packs SMART offers upgrades for licensed users. If you ve already installed SMART software, go to click the SMART Meeting Pro link, and then check for service packs. You can download service packs and install them to add new features and fix problems that they may have encountered. Alternatively, click the SMART Meeting Pro icon in the notification area, select Control Panel > About Software and Product Support > Tools, and then click the Check for Updates option. Completing the Installation Before you can use SMART Meeting Pro Premium, you must orient your SMART interactive product (see page 25), and then activate your software (see page 25) if you didn t activate it during the installation.

19 15 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE Removing the Software In addition to installing or upgrading SMART Meeting Pro Premium, the Visual C SP1 redistributable, SMART Product Drivers and the handwriting recognition packages, you can remove them in Silent mode using Windows Installer. To remove SMART Product Drivers using Windows Installer 1. Select Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears. 2. Type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK. A Command Prompt window appears. 3. Type the following command: msiexec /x "[Path to the MSI file]" /q Where [Path to the MSI file] is the complete path to the SMART Product Drivers MSI file (for example, \\Installs\SMART Product Drivers\ SMART Product Drivers.msi). 4. Press ENTER. Windows Installer removes SMART Product Drivers. This may take several minutes with no indication of activity or completion. To remove SMART Meeting Pro Premium using Windows Installer 1. Select Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears. 2. Type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK. A Command Prompt window appears. 3. Type the following command: msiexec /x "[Path to the MSI file]" /q Where [Path to the MSI file] is the complete path to the SMART Meeting Pro Premium MSI file (for example, \\Installs\SMART Meeting Pro Premium\ SMART Meeting Pro Premium.msi). 4. Press ENTER. Windows Installer silently removes SMART Meeting Pro Premium. This may take several minutes with no indication of activity or completion. To remove the Visual C SP1 redistributable 1. Open a Command Prompt window. 2. Type the following command: msiexec /x "[Path to the MSI file]\vc_red.msi" /q

20 16 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE Where [Path to the MSI file] is the path to the vc_red.msi file. OR If you want to remove the file using the product code, type: msiexec /x {9A25302D-30C0-39D9-BD6F-21E6EC160475} /q 3. Press ENTER. Windows Installer removes the Visual C SP1 redistributable. NOTE This can take several minutes with no indication of activity or completion. To remove handwriting recognition 1. Open a Command Prompt window. 2. Type the following command: msiexec /x "[Path to the MSI file]\myscript hwr ([Language]).msi" /q Where: [Path to the MSI file] is the path to the handwriting recognition MSI file. [Language] is the name of the handwriting.msi file for the installed language. (see page 7). OR If you want to remove the file using the product code, type: msiexec /x {[Product Code]} /q Where [Product Code] is the product code value for the installed language (see page 7). 3. Press ENTER. Windows Installer removes handwriting recognition. NOTE This can take several minutes with no indication of activity or completion.

21 17 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE Properties SMART Product Drivers The following are properties for the SMART Product Drivers installation package: INSTALLDIR [String] Specify the path to your preferred folder for SMART Product Drivers. NOTE If you don t include this property, Windows Installer installs the software in %PROGRAMFILES%\SMART Technologies\SMART Product Drivers. INSTALL_SPU 1 (Default) Install SMART Product Update (SPU). 0 or [Null] Not install SPU. SPU_TIME_FRAME [Integer] Specify the time in days between SPU checks. NOTES By default, SPU checks for product updates every 30 days. You can set SPU to check for product updates at intervals of one to 60 days. This property is only applicable if you install SPU. PRODUCT_NOTIFICATION 1 (Default) Notify the user when updates are available from SPU. 0 or [Null] Not notify the user when updates are available from SPU. NOTE This property is only applicable if you install SPU.

23 19 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE SMART Meeting Pro Premium The following are properties for the SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation package: USERNAME [String] Specify a user name for the SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation. NOTE The user name displays as the meeting name during collaboration. COMPANYNAME [String] Specify a company name for the SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation. ACTIVATE_LICENSE 1 (Default) Register the product key and automatically activate the software. 0 or [Null] Register the product key but not automatically activate the software. NOTES If you don t activate your software automatically after the installation process completes, an activation dialog box appears when the user first starts SMART Meeting Pro Premium. You must include the ISX_SERIALNUM property (below) for this property to work. ISX_SERIALNUM [String] Specify the 22-character product key you received from SMART Technologies. NOTES Each installation requires a unique product key. Your SMART Meeting Pro Premium product key starts with MP-.

24 20 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE BRIDGIT_SERVER_NAME [String] Specify the domain name of the SMART Bridgit Server. NOTE The SMART Bridgit server allows the SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation to connect other collaboration clients such as SMART Bridgit clients and SMART Hub SE240 clients. For more information, see www2.smarttech.com/st/en-us/products/bridgit/default.htm. ENABLEBRIDGITAUTOSHARE 1 (Default) Enable SMART Meeting Pro Premium to automatically share the main screen each time a user starts a session. 0 or [Null] Not enable SMART Meeting Pro Premium to automatically share the main screen each time a user starts a session. _ADDRESS [String] Specify the SMTP address for the SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation to send from. NOTES Users can Whiteboard files to themselves or to other users in SMART Meeting Pro Premium. When they do so, the software uses the address you specify in this property in the From field. By default, this property is set to do_not_reply. _SERVER [String] Specify the server for the SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation. CREATE_DESKTOPICONS 1 (Default) Include a shortcut to SMART Meeting Pro Premium on the desktop. 0 or [Null] Not include a shortcut to SMART Meeting Pro Premium on the desktop.

It doesn t define the installed software s user interface language. 27 23 CHAPTER 4 USING THE COMMAND LINE INTERFACE Parameters The following are parameters for the SMART Product Drivers and SMART Meeting Pro Premium installation packages: NOTE These are standard Windows Installer parameters. You can find other parameters by opening the command line, and then typing msiexec /?. Parameter Use this parameter to: /q Hide the installation wizard. NOTE This is Silent mode. /qb /qb! /qb+ /qb+! /qr /qf /qn /qn+ Show a basic installation wizard. Show a basic installation wizard without a Cancel button. Show a basic installation wizard with a dialog box signaling the end of the installation. Show a basic installation wizard without a Cancel button but with a dialog box signaling the end of the installation. Show a reduced installation wizard. Show the full installation wizard, including a dialog box signaling the end of the installation or the Fatal Error, User Exit or Exit dialog box. Hide the installation wizard and the dialog box signaling the end of the installation. Hide the installation wizard but show the dialog box signaling the end of the installation.

29 Chapter 5 Completing the Installation Orienting Your SMART Interactive Product You must configure SMART Meeting Pro Premium to respond accurately when you press the interactive screen. To do this, perform an orientation, a simple process of pressing firmly and precisely on a target displayed on the screen. To orient your SMART interactive product Press the SMART Meeting Pro icon then follow the on-screen instructions. in the notification area, select Orient, and IMPORTANT On a system with more than one display, press SPACEBAR on the keyboard to move the orientation image to the next display. You must orient each SMART interactive product and associated display together before your SMART Meeting Pro Premium system will operate as expected. Activating Your Software To continue using SMART Meeting Pro Premium, you must activate your software within 30 days after installation. If you entered the product key during installation, you automatically activated the software on your computer. Alternatively, if you didn t enter the product key during the installation, you can activate the software after you install it. NOTE Each installation requires a unique product key. To activate SMART Meeting Pro Premium 1. Select Start > All Programs > SMART Technologies > SMART Meeting Pro Premium > Activate Meeting Pro Premium. The SMART Software Activation box appears.

30 26 CHAPTER 5 COMPLETING THE INSTALLATION If the product key is listed, and the status is Activated, you don t need to activate the software. If the Product Key column is blank, your software isn t activated. 2. Enter your product key, and then click Next. 3. Optionally, if you re using a proxy, click Connection Options, enter your proxy details, and then click OK to save your options. Configuring Administrator Settings If you have administrator privileges, you can change the collaboration and settings you entered when you installed the software. To change your administrator settings 1. Click the SMART Meeting Pro icon in the notification area, and then select Control Panel > SMART Meeting Pro Premium Settings. The SMART Meeting Pro Premium Settings logon screen appears. 2. Enter your password, and then click Log In. By default, the password is blank. NOTE If you want, you can press Change Password and change your administrator password. The SMART Meeting Pro Premium Settings dialog box appears. 3. Change your collaboration and settings. 4. Click OK to save your changes.

31 Chapter 6 Configuring Display Controller SMART Product Drivers Display Controller allows you to control how and when your display device is turned on or off, or put to sleep. Display Controller helps preserve your projector lamp. You can configure the Display Controller settings right from the interactive whiteboard to increase the usability of your meeting room. This chapter lists the required equipment and defines the process for enabling this feature. Before You Start Before you can configure Display Controller, you need the following: A SMART Board interactive whiteboard or other SMART interactive product A projector or other display device which supports RS-232 control commands A computer with SMART Meeting Pro Premium (including SMART Product Drivers) and an available RS-232 connector RS-232 Connector A serial cable to connect the projector or other display device to the computer IMPORTANT If you re using a Unifi 45, SMART UF55 or SMART UF55w projector, you must connect the serial cable from the computer to the Extended Control Panel (ECP), and not directly to the projector. A DB9 straight through RS-232 cable is the most common cable for connecting the computer to the projector. However, refer to your projector s documentation to confirm its required serial cable type.

32 28 CHAPTER 6 CONFIGURING DISPLAY CONTROLLER Configuring Display Controller NOTE During this procedure, a Windows Security Alert dialog box may appear. Click Unblock to close this dialog box. To configure Display Controller 1. Connect the projector or other display device to the computer using the serial cable. 2. Start SMART Meeting Pro Premium if it isn t already running. 3. Click the SMART Meeting Pro icon in the notification area, and then select Control Panel > Configure SMART Tools > Display Controller. The Select Model dialog box appears, and the display you re using is selected. 4. Select the Enable Control for this Display check box for the display you re using. 5. Click the Communication Control tab, and then select the Use PC Serial Port check box. NOTE In most situations, the Use PC Serial Port option is selected by default. 6. Select the appropriate option from the three drop-down lists: Option [COM Port] Manufacturer Model Description The COM port (RS-232 connector) to which the projector or other display device is connected (for example, COM1) The manufacturer of the projector or display (for example, SMART) The model of the projector or display (for example, UF55) 7. Click Apply. The following happens: The light in the upper-left corner of the blue square representing the display changes from red to green. The controls in the Settings tab enable (see step 9).

33 29 CHAPTER 6 CONFIGURING DISPLAY CONTROLLER Options appear in the Display Controller notification area icon s menu (see the next page). If your SMART Board interactive whiteboard has a pen tray power button, (for example, a pen tray power button on some SMART Board 600 series interactive whiteboard, or an optional power button on the pen tray module), the power button changes from flashing green to solid green when the projector is connected. 8. If you want to configure the projector s power control, click the Power Control tab, and then select an appropriate option. Option Screen saver starts Computer goes to sleep Computer shuts down Computer starts More Settings Action Type the number of seconds of inactivity before the projector or other display device shuts down. Select this check box to shut down the projector after the computer goes to sleep Select this check box to shut down the projector automatically with the computer. Select this check box to turn on the projector automatically when the computer starts. If your SMART Board interactive whiteboard has a pen tray power button, the power button is solid green when the computer and projector or flat-panel display are on. Select Computer standby to shut down the projector when you press the solid green power button. Select Display standby to shut down the projector or the flat-panel display when you press the solid green power button. 9. If you want to configure the picture and volume settings, click the Settings tab, and then enter the appropriate information. 10. Repeat steps 1 to 9 for each projector or other display device you want to configure. TIPS You can test the configuration of the projector or other display device by clicking Power On/Off in the Settings tab. If the projector or other display device turns off, you configured it correctly. Use the projector or other display device s keypad or remote controller to turn it back on. When the Display Controller is running, you can open it by clicking its icon in the notification area.
