2 Hardware Requirements The ProxnetPro application is installed on a single, dedicated* Host PC, that will then provide Web Server access to any number of connected browsers. The Host PC shall have the following minimum specifications: 1) Pentium 2.4 Ghz 2) 1 GB RAM 3) 80 GB Hard Drive 4) 100 Mbps Network Interface 5) Standard Peripherals 6) Windows XP Operating System * Please note: For optimum performance, ProxnetPro must be installed and run on a Host PC dedicated to this purpose. Installation Procedure 1) Run the ProxnetPro Installation Executable (For example: ProxnetProPlatinum.exe). Ensure that the 'Destination Folder' is "c:\". Page 2 of 5

3 2) Run "setup.bat" found in the newly installed "ProxnetPro" folder. a) Enter the password, "proxnetpro" when prompted. b) Click "Unblock" for the Apache service when prompted by the Windows Firewall. Page 3 of 5

4 c) Manually restart the PC when the procedure has completed successfully. 3) Run the Firefox Installation Executable and follow the on-screen instructions.* * Firefox: Mozilla Firefox is the recommended HTML browser. Installed Components The following components are installed by the ProxnetPro Installation Executable: 1) Ruby Interpretor and the Rails frame-work (including Image Magick) 2) PostgreSQL Database (including PG Admin) 3) Apache Web Server (as service) 4) Localised Mongrel Web Servers (as services) 5) ProxnetPro Application Page 4 of 5

5 Running ProxnetPro for the First-time Once the Host PC has been restarted, the ProxnetPro Application is already active, with the Apache and Mongrel components running as Windows Services. All access to the ProxnetPro Application is via a Web Browser (preferably Firefox). The ProxnetPro Application may be accessed (or browsed into) from a browser running on the Host PC, or from a browser on any other PC that has a suitable network connection to the Host PC. To browse into the ProxnetPro Application, a browser application must be opened (Firefox) and the ProxnetPro URL entered into the address bar. To make this easier, a shortcut has been placed on the desktop of the Host PC. Double clicking the shortcut will launch the browser and automatically direct the browser to the correct address (" Note: To browse the ProxnetPro Application from a PC other than the Host PC, the URL must include the IP Address of the Host PC. For example: " Note that "https" as a protocol specifier will invoke the SSL security feature. The ProxnetPro Application may also be browsed in a non-secure manner where the protocol specifier will be "http". The first time that the ProxnetPro Application is browsed, the browser will prompt the user to make a decision about the security certificate provided by the ProxnetPro Web Server. The user should select the option to permanently accept the given security certificate. Once the browser has resolved the security certificate, it will load the pages of the ProxnetPro Application. To start with, no login is required to gain access to the ProxnetPro Application, although access is limited only to "Users" & "User Profiles". It is the task of the "First Time User" to create a new User on the system and to assign this new User a User Profile. The "First Time User" may select one of the provided User Profiles, or may create a new one (Gold & Platinum only). Warning! Once the first User has been successfully created with a valid User Profile, the system will require the user to Log In as the newly created User. Therefore, it is very important that the first User created, has access to "Users" & "User Profiles". If this is not adhered to, no more Users can be added to the system without a Support Login. Once Users have been created with suitable User Profiles, the ProxnetPro application is ready to be configured by the Installer or System Designer. Configuration includes the detection of Controllers and Readers, the definition of Areas and Permissions, and the enrollment of Cards and Holders. Page 5 of 5
