1 Presentation 1.1 Overview Jumper to disable firmware downloads (see section 2.1). Jumper to return to factory default settings (see section 4.8). Ethernet port (RJ45 10/100BT connector). Labels for Ethernet and IP addresses. Ethernet diagnostics LED (see section 2.2). STS-link diagnostics LED (see section 2.2). RS232 serial port for configuration and maintenance (see section 4.1). The address label is made up of two areas: IP area for the address assigned to the card. MAC area for the Ethernet address of the card (MAC address). 1.2 Use in a UPS The STS Web Card can also be used in a UPS. The card firmware must be upgraded with a specific version available on STS Web card User Manual EN/BA Page 3/32
1.3 Functions The main functions of the STS Web card are: Web server for STS supervision using a standard Internet browser (Supervision feature). The HTTP and HTTPS (authentication and encryption of data as per the SSL standard) are used for the features listed below. Supervision: non-secure access (HTTP) only. Presentation of STS operating characteristics (mimic-diagram and measurements. Time-stamping and storage in the STS event logs. Real-time transmission of STS alarms (user-enabled feature). Administration: secure access (HTTPS) only and with a password. Configuration of card operating parameters. Personalization of pages (format, language). Updating of card firmware. Maintenance: access via the RS232 serial port. Card settings. Access to Debug mode. STS Web card User Manual EN/BA Page 4/32

2 Installation 2.1 Set-up Disable downloads By default, it is possible to update the embedded firmware on the STS Web card using the Browser command. If you wish to disable this function, change the position of the jumper before installing the card. Download inhibited Download available (default setting) Installation in a STS It is not necessary to turn the STS off: Using a screwdriver, remove the cover from a free slot in the STS. Insert and secure the STS Web card into the STS. STS Web card User Manual EN/BA Page 6/32
2.2 Connection of the Ethernet link To make use of the full potential of your installation, we recommend using shielded cables with shielded RJ45 connectors Connection to a hub If the STS Web card is connected to a hub, use a straight-through cable Connection to a computer If the STS Web card is connected to a computer, use a crossover cable. Once the card has been inserted and connected: The UPS data LED: flashes regularly once per second during the start-up phase, flashes faster during initialization of the dialogue with the STS, flashes in step with the exchange of data with the STS. The Lk/Tx LED: goes on when connection is made to the network, flashes in step with the Ethernet exchanges managed by the card. Approximately 1 minute after insertion, the card is operational. 8 2.3 Default IP address The STS Web card comes with a default IP address. This address is calculated from the MAC address on the label on the front of the card. The format of the MAC address is LL MM NN, where: is the manufacturer code for MGE UPS SYSTEMS in hexadecimal format, LL MM NN is the serial number of the card in hexadecimal format. The default IP address of the card is made up of four bytes of which the last two are derived from the MAC address. The format of the IP address is xxx.yyy, where: xxx is the decimal value of the MM byte, yyy is the decimal value of the NN byte. For example, for a MAC address , the corresponding default IP address is Network parameters The STS Web card uses the parameters listed below: IP address for identification on the intranet. Subnet-mask defining the group of users to which it is connected. Gateway address for communication with another subnet. Network parameters setting could be done: Automatically if the network is equipped with a DHCP or BOOTP server. Manually when no IP server is available. STS Web card User Manual EN/BA Page 8/32
The table below presents the initialization mode for the network parameters. Intranet Selected mode Procedure DHCP server installed BOOTP server installed No server available - DHCP - Reception and use of the network parameters sent by the DHCP server - BOOTP - Attempt to connect to a BOOTP server for ten seconds, then use of the fixed network parameters - Manual - Use of the fixed network parameters - DHCP - Attempt to connect to a DHCP server for ten seconds, then use of the fixed network parameters - BOOTP - Reception and use of the network parameters sent by the BOOTP server - Manual - Use of the fixed network parameters - DHCP - Attempt to connect to a DHCP server for ten seconds, then use of the fixed network parameters - BOOTP - Attempt to connect to a BOOTP server for ten seconds, then use of the fixed network parameters - Manual - Use of the fixed network parameters Important: If the card is not connected or is incorrectly connected to the network, it simply waits for connection. Once connection is detected, the card becomes operational. STS Web card User Manual EN/BA Page 9/32

5 Maintenance 5.1 Troubleshooting Problem Probable cause Remedy The two LEDs remain off. The "Lk/Tx" LED does not light after connection of the cable. The card is not supplied with power. The Ethernet link is not operational. - Check that the system is energized. - Check that the card is correctly inserted and secured in its slot. - Remove the card and install it again. - Check that the cable is correct (see section 2.2). - If the cable is connected to a hub, check that the hub is supplied with power. The "UPS data" LED does not light. Connection with a browser is not possible. Uploading is not possible. The card is faulty. The network parameters are incorrect. The card is protected. - Test the card (see section 5.2). - Check that the "Lk/Tx" LED is on. - Check that the URL corresponds to the current address of the card (see section 2.4). - Check that your workstation can access the address (check the Subnet-mask and Default-gateway values on your workstation). - Add a network routing table condition on your workstation by using the command: - Check the position of the FRST jumper (see section 4.8). - Test the connection with a ping. - Check the number of browsers already connected to the card. - Check the position of the Download jumper on the card (see section 2.1). The maintenance menu is not operational. The upload did not complete successfully. The RS232 serial link is not correct. The card does not restart. - Check that the cable used is the one supplied with the card (part No ). - Check the terminal parameters. - Using the browser, check the parameters used by the card (see section 4.4). - Test the link with the default parameters (see section 4.8). - Contact the after-sales technical support. Note: if the problem cannot be solved, contact the after-sales technical support at the address indicated on the site. STS Web card User Manual EN/BA Page 29/32
5.2 Card test Using terminal mode: select the Start autotest command and select the desired test. If a fault is detected during a test, contact the after-sales technical support. The test function interrupts correct operation of the Supervision and Protection functions on the STS Web card. 5.3 View the logged traces Using terminal mode: select the Display trace debug command to view the messages on card operation, or select the Display log information command to view the history of STS events. Note: this operation may be carried out during maintenance, in conjunction with the after-sales technical support personnel. 5.4 Lost passwords To return to the «MGEUPS» password, it is necessary to set the parameters back to their default values using terminal mode (see section 4.8). Warning: remember to make note of the other parameters as they will be overwritten by the default values. STS Web card User Manual EN/BA Page 30/32
