5 1 Introduction The LED Manager for Intel NUC provides users with the ability to set the color and behavior of the LEDs on supported NUC products. 1.1 Getting Started The latest version of the LED Manager for Intel NUC is available for download at Supported NUCs NUC8i7HVK NUC8i7HNK BIOS Settings In order for the tool to control the LEDs, the BIOS must have the LED zones set to Software Control Enabled. This is the default setting in BIOS, so it should not be necessary to change the BIOS settings, unless they have been set to a different control. The settings can be found in the BIOS Setup Menu on the Devices page in the LED Control tab. Set all zones to Software Control here. LED Manager for Intel NUC User Guide (Version 1.0.0) 1

6 2 Tray Application When the LED Manager for Intel NUC is launched an icon will appear in the tray to allow quick control of the LEDs. The tray application will continue running even if the main UI application is closed. Launch the UI or access quick features here. 2.1 Disable All Selecting Disable All from the tray menu will turn off all of the LEDs on the NUC. 2.2 Open and Exit Open will launch the main UI application and exit will close both the tray application and the main UI (if it is open). 7 3 Main Application The main application provides an interface for the user to control the LED settings and save profiles for future use. LED Manager for Intel NUC User Guide (Version 1.0.0) 3

8 3.1 Selecting an LED Zone The user is able to select an LED zone to control by clicking on either the name of the zone or on the image of the LED zone. Select the Eyes LED zone by clicking on the name or the image. 3.2 LED Zone Indicators When an LED zone is selected, the following indicators can be applied. The physical LEDs will be updated as the changes are made in the application. LED Manager for Intel NUC User Guide (Version 1.0.0) 4

9 3.2.1 Power State When the power state indicator is applied, the LEDs will display the chosen color and behavior for each other the power states. If breathing, strobing or pulsing are selected it is also possible to set the frequency (from 0 to 1 in 0.1 increments). 10 3.2.2 Hard Drive Activity For the hard drive activity indicator, the user is able to choose to have the LEDs remain off and blink on for activity or remain on and blink off. LEDs turn on for activity LEDs turn off for activity LED Manager for Intel NUC User Guide (Version 1.0.0) 6

11 3.2.3 CPU Usage The CPU usage indicator will monitor the CPU usage levels and update the color of the LEDs accordingly. The colors can either be the default range from blue (less than 30% CPU usage) to red (greater than 90% usage) or a custom color that will change in saturation based on usage. Default colors. 12 3.2.4 Ethernet Activity The Ethernet activity indicator will set the LEDs to off and blink on for activity. The user can choose which of the two Ethernet ports will be monitored for activity or choose the option that monitors both ports and shows when activity occurs on either of them. 13 3.2.5 Power Limit When the power limit indicator is selected, the LEDs will change based on the amount of power being used. The colors can be either the default range from green (less than 50% power used) to red (greater than 85%) or a custom color that will change in saturation based on usage. 14 3.2.6 WiFi Enabled The WiFi indicator turns the LEDs on when WiFi is enabled and off when it is not (for example, if the device has airplane mode on or WiFi is disabled). LED Manager for Intel NUC User Guide (Version 1.0.0) 10

15 3.2.7 Disable The user can choose to disable any of the LED zones individually, which will turn the selected LEDs off. 3.3 Disable All The UI also provides the ability to quickly disable all of the LED zones. 16 3.4 Profiles It is possible to save profiles in the application, which gives the ability to quickly switch LED settings Create a New Profile Once the desired LED settings have been applied, type a name in the box at the bottom of the profiles section and click Add Profile. Once the profile has been saved it will appear in the list of saved profiles. Profile names are limited to 20 characters and can only include characters that are permitted in a file name. 17 3.4.2 Apply a Saved Profile Clicking on the name of a saved profile will immediately apply those settings to the LEDs Update a Saved Profile Once the desired changes are made to the LEDs it is possible to update a saved profile to the current settings. Click the save button and accept the prompt to replace the old profile with the new settings Change a Profile Name The edit button provides the ability to change the profile name Delete a Saved Profile The delete button eliminates the saved profile. Update the saved profile to the current settings. Change the profile name. Delete the profile Export or Import Saved Profile It is also possible to export a saved profile to use on a different device or import a profile that was previously created using the Export and Import buttons. Note: It is only possible to share profiles between devices with the same LED zones and capabilities. LED Manager for Intel NUC User Guide (Version 1.0.0) 13

18 4 Troubleshooting If the LED Manager for Intel NUC is unable to successfully update the LEDs, verify the following: 1. The hardware is on the supported devices list. See Section Supported NUCs. 2. The LED zones are set to Software Controlled in BIOS. See Section BIOS Settings. 3. The LED Manager for Intel NUC Service is installed and running. Open the Services application and check under Services (Local) for LED Manager for Intel NUC Service. If the service status is Stopped, attempt to Start the service.
