2 Important New Features Your new Eagle software level contains many new features and enhancements. Converting to this new level may affect the way you currently run your business with your Triad Eagle System. Do not convert to your new Triad Eagle software level until you review this chapter carefully. You may need to complete some important steps before you begin the conversion. This chapter includes important Special Security information. For complete information about all your new Triad Eagle software level s features, read the What s New online information after converting to your new Eagle software level. Triad Eagle for Windows Special Security Special Security, which requires a user to sign on, is now available in Triad Eagle for Windows. If the Special Security flag in Function MTR is set to P or S, the Eagle Browser Signon displays when you start up the first Eagle for Windows application. If the flag is set to O, the Signon doesn t automatically display, so if the user needs more access than that of the Default user in MTR, the user must go to the Browser and sign on. Regardless of whether Special Security is set to P, S, or O, the Browser minimizes after the user signs on. Although the user can close the Browser, it will come up again if another application is started. The POS Device Configuration utility is no longer in WinPOS. It can now be found in Ebrowser under Utilities. Triad Eagle for Windows Special Security 3

3 Questions You May Have The following are questions you may have about the conversion to your new Triad Eagle software level, with a brief answer for each. If you need additional information or have questions, call the Advice Line at 1(800) Will my current business procedures change after I convert? Possibly. Converting to your new Triad Eagle software level may affect the way you currently run your business with your Triad Eagle system. Before you convert to your new Triad Eagle software level, review Chapter 2 of this document carefully. You may need to complete some important steps before you begin the conversion. You can read about all the new features and enhancements in the What s New online information. How do I receive my What s New information? The What s New information for your new Triad Eagle software level is online. After you convert to your new Triad Eagle software level, type HELP at the Main Menu to view the What s New online information. You can access the What s New information on the customer website at Each software subsystem (for example, Inventory) is a separate section of the What s New online information. Use the function keys at the bottom of the screen to view or print each section. Can I use the backup tape sets, used immediately before and after the conversion, for regular backups? Yes. However, you should save the backup tape sets for a couple of days before you use them for regular backups. 5
I m converting to the new Triad Eagle software level before I open in the morning. Do I have to run another backup prior to the conversion? No, as long as the system is still quiet (you have not used it for any processing since shutdown completed) and you checked Function MBC to confirm that the backup was successful. Run a backup (not Shutdown) immediately following a successful conversion so that you have a backup of your data on your new Triad Eagle software level. Keep in mind that Automated End-of-Day will not run a backup more than once a day, therefore, your system will not automatically backup tonight if you manually run a backup earlier in the day. Automated End-of-Day, however, will return to normal the following day. You may run another manual backup in the evening and not affect tomorrow s Automated End-of-Day. To manually perform a backup, type BACKUP at the Main Menu and press <Enter>. Follow the prompts on the screen. Only perform a backup when the system is quiet and has no other activity, such as POS, occurring. Do I keep the new Triad Eagle software level software tape or CD-ROM and Boot/ Install floppies? Yes. This is your copy of the new software and Boot/Install floppies. Store the floppies in a safe place at your store. Make sure all key personnel who operate the system know where the software tape and Boot/Install floppies are kept. They may be needed in the future should software need to be reinstalled on your system. The tape or CD-ROM and Boot/Install floppies are important to the ongoing support of your Triad Eagle system. CCITRIAD recommends you do not take them home. I have some old software tapes (or CD-ROMs) and diskettes. What should I do with them? Keep them separate from your new software and Boot/Install floppies. Give them to your Field Engineer the next time that he or she is in your store. This prevents someone from reinstalling old software on your system. If I start the conversion and then leave for the evening, will the conversion finish on its own? No! There are several steps during the conversion that require you to type or confirm information for the conversion to continue. Once the conversion is complete, it is also necessary to make a backup of your system. You should not leave the conversion running unattended. 6
I have Automated End-of-Day (Auto EOD or Autopilot) and shall be manually running Shutdown with backup early, just after I close my store to run the conversion. However, my Automated End-of-Day is scheduled to run later in the evening, what should I do? You do not need to do anything. If you run Shutdown with backup more than once on the same day, the system will only process the automated queues and run backup once. In addition, Automated End-of-Day can not occur during the conversion process. The Automated End-of-Day will then resume normal operation the following day. 7

4 Pre-Conversion Steps This chapter describes: when to run the conversion what materials you will need how the pre-conversion procedures work Which System? This guide includes procedures for both the Triad Eagle ISC system and the Triad Eagle SCO system. Both are Triad Eagle systems, the difference is in the UNIX operating system software, ISC or SCO. For some steps in the procedures in this guide, the steps you take are different for each system. If this is the case, the procedure step will indicate this. See the following example: 6. At the prompt, do this Triad Eagle ISC system: When the message, PLEASE REMOVE THE BOOT INSTALL FLOPPY AND PRESS <ENTER> WHEN READY, displays, remove the Boot/Install floppy and press <Enter>. Triad Eagle SCO system: When the message, PLEASE REMOVE THE FLOPPY. INSERT THE INSTALLATION CD-ROM AND PRESS <ENTER> WHEN READY [q to quit], displays, remove the SCO Root Floppy and press <Enter>. 8. When the message displays, do this... If you have an ISC system, you would follow the instructions in the first paragraph of step 7, after Triad Eagle ISC system:. If you have a SCO system, you would follow the instructions in the second paragraph of step 7, after Triad Eagle SCO system:. In the example, the procedures in steps 6 and 8 are the same for both systems. If you are not sure which system you have, display Function PCO. If the OS column includes fields that begin with sco, two boot fields, and two instl fields, then you have a Triad Eagle SCO system. If these fields do not display, then you have a Triad Eagle ISC system. Which System? 9
When to Run the Conversion You should run the conversion: after the system runs the end-of-day reports when the system is quiet (that is, not being used for any other processing) with only your terminal active There are two good times to run the conversion: before starting your business for the day after closing your business for the day How Long Does the Conversion Take? The conversion takes approximately 1 hour. The amount of time the conversion takes depends on the size of your files. The conversion time is in addition to the time it normally takes you to run shutdown, backup, and your end-of-day reports. Required Materials We ve provided the following materials with the update: Triad Eagle ISC system: Boot/Install floppy or Triad Eagle SCO system: SCO Boot floppy if you are running Eagle for Windows programs, you should have received on CD-ROM the current Eagle for Windows update and a new Training Browser this Eagle Software Conversion Guide You also need the following before running the conversion: your next scheduled backup tape sets (have two sets available) software tape or CD-ROM and floppies for the level of software your system is currently on (You need these in case a problem arises.) 10 When to Run the Conversion
If you are not sure which level of software your system is currently on, see the next section, Checking Your Current Level of Software. Important You must have the items listed previously before you continue. If you don t have all of the items, or don t know if you have all of them, contact the Triad Advice Line at 1(800) Checking Your Current Level of Triad Eagle Software You need to determine your current level of software before you begin the conversion to ensure that you have the correct software tape or CD-ROM and floppies for a backup in case you need them. To check your current level of software, do the following: 1. At the Function prompt, type PCO and press <Enter>. The Show PCO Level screen displays. 2. Check the software level in the Programs field near the top of the screen. This should correspond with the level listed on the software tape or CD-ROM for your current software level (not the new software tape or CD-ROM you received). The boot level displays at the bottom of the screen in the boot field (Triad Eagle ISC systems) or the boot/alad and boot/blc fields (Triad Eagle SCO systems). This corresponds with the level listed on the boot floppy for your current software level. Important If the level on your new software tape or CD-ROM is less than the level shown in the Programs field, do not install the new tape or CD-ROM. If these levels do not correspond, contact the Triad Advice Line at 1(800) Press <End> to exit the screen. Required Materials 11
Checking Your Current Level of Fax and Software If you have purchased Fax or software but have not yet installed it, refer to your Optional Software Installation Guide for installation procedures. If you have already installed an earlier version of Fax or software, you may need to install a newer version after you install your new Triad Eagle software level. To verify whether you need to upgrade your Fax or software, do the following: 1. At the Function prompt, type PCO and press <Enter>. The Show PCO Level screen displays. 2. Look in the Software Patches section of the screen for lines similar to the following: FAX 2.0 (for Fax software) 1.7 (for software on ISC systems) 2.1 (FOR SOFTWARE ON SCO SYSTEMS) CPRO 2.2 (FOR SOLUTIONS BY COMPUTER SOFTWARE ON SCO SYSTEMS) 3. Compare the Fax release number in the parentheses to the Fax field on your new software tape. If the number on the tape is higher than the number in Function PCO, you need to install new Fax software. Refer to your Optional Software Installation Guide for installation procedures. Repeat this process for software and CPRO software. 4. Press <End> to exit the screen. Pre-Conversion Procedures To ensure your new Triad Eagle software level conversion is successful, complete these preconversion procedures. After you complete the pre-conversion procedures you can convert to your new Triad Eagle software level. Note CCITRIAD recommends that you clean the floppy drive before beginning the conversion process. If you do not have a floppy drive cleaning kit, contact your Field Engineer at 1(800) for information about purchasing one. 12 Pre-Conversion Procedures
Loading End-of-Day (EOD) Queue(s) If you are using Automated End-of-Day (you may know it as Auto EOD or Autopilot), do not complete this procedure. Go to the next section, Running SHUTDOWN with Backup. If you are not using Automated End-of-Day, do the following: 1. At any menu, type the name of the EOD queue and press <Enter>. The Report Queue Options window displays. 2. Press <Run> to load the report queue to run at the end-of-day. After backup is complete, the system begins printing the end-of-day queue. 3. If you have other EOD queues to load, repeat steps 1 and 2. Continue with the procedure in the next section, Running SHUTDOWN with Backup. Running SHUTDOWN with Backup This procedure backs up your data and prints the end-of-day reports. Prior to converting to your new Triad Eagle software level, you must run a backup. This ensures that you have the most recent data available in case you have to restore the data. If you are converting to your new Triad Eagle software level in the morning, you can use the backup from last night, as long as you have not entered any transactions or changed any data on your system since the backup was completed. Continue with the next chapter, Converting to Your New Triad Eagle Software Level. To run a backup, do the following: 1. At all terminals, except the one on which you run SHUTDOWN, type QUIT and press <Enter>. 2. At the Main Menu, type SHUTDOWN and press <Enter>. SHUTDOWN performs a backup of your data and starts the EOD reports. Be sure to answer Y to the backup prompt. Once the backup is complete, do the following: 1. Remove the tape. 2. At the Main Menu, type MBC and press <Enter>. 3. Check that the backup was successful. 4. Label this backup set Data Before Conversion and date it; set it aside in a safe place. Pre-Conversion Procedures 13
Checking the End-of-Day (EOD) Reports Once the backup is complete, SHUTDOWN starts your EOD reports. Do not convert to your new Triad Eagle software level until all reports have run. Important Do not run point-of-sale between the time SHUTDOWN finishes and the conversion is completed. To check if the EOD reports ran, do the following: 1. At the Main Menu, type RABO and press <Enter>. The Abort Report (RABO) Screen displays. 2. The reports are finished if the upper portion of the screen is blank and the message, NO INFORMATION TO DISPLAY, displays at the bottom of the screen.
