Introduction Things to Consider This document contains information on the following topics: Things to consider before you upgrade Tasks to perform before you begin an upgrade Steps to perform an upgrade There are some differences between the components and database structures of CE 8.5 and CE 10 so all CE components are overwritten during an upgrade. Users and objects do transfer over completely however. Please note that a UNIX upgrade is not discussed in this document. When performing an upgrade from CE 8.5 to CE 10, there are a number of important things to consider. Please read this section carefully prior to beginning your upgrade. More information is available in the Release Notes located on the CE 10 installation disk or by searching for ce10_release_en.zip on the Business Objects support website at Business Objects strongly recommends that you read the Release Notes prior to installing CE 10. Solution Kits If you have deployed a CE Solution Kit such as SAP, Siebel, Baan, PeopleSoft, or MSCRM CE 10 should NOT be installed until you have obtained an updated copy of the Solution Kit for version 10. These solution kits are typically not available for several months after the release of CE 10. For further information, contact your Business Objects Sales Representative. Migrate or Upgrade? If sufficient resources exist in your environment, it is highly recommended that you migrate rather than upgrade on top of an existing CE 8.5 installation. In a migration scenario, a separate server is set up with CE 10 installed. The database and objects from an existing CE 8.5 environment are then imported into the new CE 10 environment. This allows for a cleaner installation and easy back out if the upgrade does not go smoothly. If resources do not exist to allow a system migration, follow this document to perform an upgrade. Supported Platforms and Databases With the release of CE 10 some databases have been deprecated or are only supported with the latest Service Packs for system databases. To ensure that you are using supported platforms and that your system meets minimum requirements, it is strongly recommended that you review the platforms document (Platforms.txt) located on the CE 10 installation disk or, for the most 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. 3 up to date supported platforms list, go to and search for the file name ce10_supported_platforms.pdf. Local Administrator Rights All installations should be done while you are logged on as the local administrator. Experience has shown that installations done using domain user accounts that have local administrator privileges can have rights issues. To ensure a smooth installation, use the local administrator account. Crystal Analysis If Crystal Analysis (CA) is installed on your CE 8.5 server, the installation program warns you to install Crystal Analysis (CA) 10 following the upgrade. This is shown in Figure 1. When the Next button is clicked, the CE installation continues and the Crystal Analysis files (CAR) are migrated to CE 10 but are not usable until CA 10 is installed. Figure 1 New Names for Components To more accurately reflect their roles, certain components have been renamed in Crystal Enterprise 10. The Automated Process Scheduler (APS) is now called the Crystal Management Server (CMS) because it handles a variety of management tasks. The eportfolio is now called the Crystal Enterprise web desktop, or simply web desktop. 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 3
Before You Begin Custom CSP and Code If your environment has customized CE standard web pages, for example Crystal Server Pages (CSP) such as Available.csp, it is strongly recommended that you back up these files because the new installation may replace them with standard pages. Before you begin to upgrade your environment from CE 8.5 to 10, there are things you should do and consider. These things are discussed in this section. Back up your Data Backing up your data is not necessary to do during an upgrade install, but it is recommended in the event that the installation does not complete successfully. If your data is backed up, you will be able to restore your previous environment. You should back up both the Automated Process Scheduler (APS) database and the File Repository Server (FRS) content. Locate and Back up the APS System Database To determine the location of your APS database, complete the following steps: 1. Open the Crystal Configuration Manager (CCM) and click Automated Process Scheduler from the list of servers. 2. Click the Stop icon to stop the APS, right-click the APS, and from the submenu click Properties. 3. Click the Configuration tab on the Crystal APS Properties dialog box. Notice the value of the APS Data Source box. This box displays the name of your APS ODBC Data Source Name (DSN). Make note of this name. 4. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and click Administrative Tools. 5. Double click Data Sources (ODBC) to open the ODBC Data Source Administrator and then click the System DSN tab. 6. Find the DSN noted from the APS Configuration box and click the Configure button. This takes you to the DSN configuration for the APS database. 7. Click Next through the DSN configuration to find out what server the APS database is on and what database it is using. 8. With this information, work with your database administrator to properly backup your APS database. Back up your File Repository Server (FRS) Contents To ensure that no objects or instances are lost during the upgrade process, it is recommended that you back up the Root Directories of the Input and Output FRS. 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 4
The default locations for the FRS directories are <drive>:\program Files\Crystal Decisions\Enterprise\FileStore\Input and Performing the Upgrade <drive>:\program Files\Crystal Decisions\Enterprise\FileStore\Output. To verify that these are the correct locations: 1. Open the Crystal Management Console (CMC) 2. Go to Manage Servers. 3. Click both the Input and Output severs. The Root Directory for each is displayed on the Properties tab. With both the Input and Output FRS stopped to ensure no one is accessing any report objects or instances, back up the Input and Output folders to a safe location. This section outlines the four main stages to the upgrade process: 1. Specifying the directory to which you want CE installed. 2. Specifying where the new CMS database will be located. 3. Copying the new CE 10 files to the specified location. 4. Copying data from the old APS database to the new CMS database. Begin Installation and Specify Installation Directory To begin the upgrade, run Setup.exe from the CE disk or from a network location where the media is copied. The installation program checks for an upto-date version of the windows installer service and advises you to shut down any other applications that may be running. You may receive the Crystal Analysis warning at this point if a previous version is installed. This is followed by the license agreement, which you must read and accept to continue the installation. At this point you must provide your identification information and Product Keycode. Your keycode can be found on the CD sleeve or in your license agreement. If you are having problems finding your keycode, please contact your sales representative. 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 5
Figure 2 illustrates the next installation screen that appears. This is where you can specify a different directory to which CE 10 will be installed. Figure 2 Specify the CMS Database Location and Type Once you have chosen an installation directory or accepted the default location shown in Figure 2, you must select the kind of CMS database you want to use with CE10. Because the database structure has changed since CE 8.5, the installation automatically asks for database information. You have two choices: Provide the DSN to a supported database (option A) Enter SQL Server logon information (option B) The option you select depends on what kind of database you will be using with CE 10. If you want the CMS database to reside on a different server than the CMS or if you want to use a database other than the MSDE, choose Option A. If you have the default MSDE database or Microsoft SQL Server installed on the computer that you are installing the CMS on and you want to use it as the CMS database, choose Option B. 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 6
In Figure 2, notice that MSDE or SQL Server7 or higher was found on this computer. If neither is found on your computer, you will not have the option to enter SQL server logon information. Both options will be detailed below. Option A uses a DSN and Option B uses MSDE or SQL Server. Option A: Provide a DSN to a Supported Database There are two connection choices with option A, native or ODBC. If you choose ODBC, you must select or create a system DSN which points to a new database that already exists. You can select or create a new DSN by clicking the Select DSN button shown in Figure 3. Figure 3 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 7
This opens the Select Data Source dialog box (Figure 4. Click the Machine Data Source tab for a list of existing DSNs. Figure 4 You can select an existing DSN from the list or create a new one by clicking the New button. If you create a new DSN you can name it as you like. Once you have created or selected the DSN, the installation process begins to copy CE 10 files into the installation directory. 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 8
Option B: Use MSDE / SQL Server on the same Computer as the CMS Choosing option B presents you with the following dialog box. Figure 5 There are different considerations depending on the option that you select in figure 5. If you choose Windows NT authentication then the domain account that you provide must have at least CREATE rights to the database. This domain account must also be part of the local administrators group because this is the account that the new CMS will run under. If you select the SQL Server option, type the user name and password as shown in figure 5. The default logon id for MSDE is sa. The installation automatically creates a new machine DSN called CE 10 regardless of which option you choose. Copy new CE 10 Files to the Install Directory Once the database information has been provided and the DSN created, the installation program begins installing the CE 10 files into the directory that you specified. A registration screen appears and you can choose to register now or later. 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 9
Copy Data to the New CMS Database So far during the upgrade process you have created a new DSN for the CE 10 system database, specified the authentication type and location of the system database and installed the new CE 10 files. The next step is to copy the data from the old system database to the new one. The next steps outline the process to copy the data from your existing APS system database to your CE 10 CMS system database. When you click the Finish button to complete the installation, the dialog box shown in figure 6 appears. Figure 6 1. Click the Specify button in figure 6 and choose your CE 8.5 data source. You will be prompted for a username and password if required. Once you have provided this information, the process of copying and converting the data begins. Depending on the size of the existing system database and your network speed, the migration may take a long time to complete. Transfer times in excess of one hour have been observed. When the data has been successfully copied, a screen appears that says CMS database setup completed. 2. Click OK on this screen and you will receive a message telling you to start and enable all of your servers and update the objects. 3. To do this, launch the Crystal Configuration Manger (CCM) if it isn t already running and make sure all the servers are started. 4. Click the Enable/Disable Servers symbol on the top of the bar in the CCM. It is the symbol circled in figure 7 Figure 7 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 10
5. Log on to the CMS. This will open the box in figure Click the Enable all button and then click OK. Figure 8 Once all the servers have been started and enabled, the objects need to be updated to the new report format. To do this: 1. Click the Update Object symbol. This symbol is circled in figure 9. The symbols flashes with a red exclamation mark on it until the update is done. Figure 9 2. Log on to the CMS. After doing so, an analysis of the system database is done and you are presented with a dialog box that tells you how many objects need to be updated. 3. Click Update. The system is now upgraded to CE 10. 7/23/ :13 AM Copyright 2004 Business Objects. All rights reserved. Page 11
