This installs the Administrator version on the PC. It installs ALL features including the User Manager and Data Creation utilities. The database will reside on your local hard drive. Who Performs: IT or Network Administrator Zavanta Administrator When to Perform: When you receive your serial number from COMPROSE Requirements Approvals: You must have the following permissions: Read/Write access to: Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Comprose C:\Program Files\Comprose\Zavanta\EXEFiles\Temp C:\Program Files\Comprose\Zavanta\EXEFiles\WebTemp Zavanta database on the server Read access to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT Pre-Knowledge: Before performing this task you must know... The folder where the Zavanta database will reside How you are going to back up your Zavanta system Equipment: Disk or server space for the database Space / location for the exported websites System Requirements Administrator and Author/SME Workstations: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7/Windows MB minimum hard drive space. 512 RAM recommended. 100 MHz processor or above. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or above required for all operating systems. Microsoft.Net Framework 1.1 (we do include this with the ZAVANTA installation) Users will need full rights to the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Comprose. Website Publishing: If you will be publishing a website to a central server or intranet, you will need to allocate space and give all viewers access to the central location where the website(s) is published. This is external to the ZAVANTA application. Viewers can access the website(s) using any standard browser. Zavanta websites are compatible with MS SharePoint or any standard search engine that you use for other content. 2 Materials: Zavanta serial number and module codes You can download the Zavanta installation software and instructions by logging on to the Customer Service website at: Warnings and Precautions Detailed Steps Precautions: To avoid errors do the following before performing this task: Have the proper permissions and rights Read all instructions; do not skip any steps If you have a problem during installation, make note of the step you were on when you encountered the error or problem. Note any error messages. This is important information that technical support will need to troubleshoot your problem. 1 Install Zavanta software on the PC. (Installation Wizard) 1.1 Log on to the PC you want to install Zavanta on. 1.2 Download the Zavantasetup.zip file to the PC. Go to Click on "Log in to User Support Site" Enter your serial number. Click on the "Download Software and Instructions" link. Select the standalone version. Click Save. Select a folder to save the file to. The zip folder will be saved to the folder location you just specified. 1.3 Locate the Zavantasetup.zip file and double-click on it. You will see the Zavantasetup.exe file. 1.4 Run the Zavantasetup.exe file. Double-click the Zavantasetupxx.exe file or select Run from the Windows START menu, browse to the file and select OK. (xx=the current version, i.e.4.1) Once you run the setup file, the Zavanta Installation Wizard starts. The wizard will walk you through the install process. 1.5 Read the Zavanta License Agreement. Press Accept. 1.6 Enter the user, organization, and serial number. Page 2 of 5

3 You will see the Destination Folder screen. 1.7 Select the folder on the PC to copy the Zavanta program files to. Unless you have a specific reason for changing the folder locations, simply accept the default folder shown.do not install the software on a server. You will see the Database screen. 1.8 Select the folder where the database will reside. Press the Change button and find the folder you want. Press OK and then press Next. If this is the first time you've installed Zavanta, the standard Zavanta.mdb (that has default settings and sample documents) will be copied into this folder. If you have already installed Zavanta, then the install program will check to see if an existing Zavanta.mdb is in the folder. If the.mdb file is already there, then the install will not copy anything. If it is not there, then the program will copy the standard Zavanta.mdb. The installation options screen displays. 1.9 Select "Zavanta Administrator Install" option. Press Next. You will see a confirmation screen and then a progress screen. When the process is completed, all the features and utilities for Zavanta are installed Press Finish. Page 3 of 5

4 1.11 Reboot the PC if prompted. Special Warnings: If you are a new customer, the installation will automatically contain the latest Zavanta version. If you are re-installing Zavanta or are possibly using an old setup file, you will want to run the Update Manager to make sure you have the latest Zavanta version. 2 Enter your serial number and module codes in the Zavanta application. At this point the PC is connected to the database, but you will need to enter the serial number and codes in Zavanta again so that they are copied into the Access database you just connected to. The serial number in the PC's registry must match the serial number in the database. 2.1 Launch Zavanta. Start Zavanta by selecting "Zavanta" from Start=>Programs=>Zavanta or by clicking on the Zavanta icon on your desktop. When you see the login window, enter the user name for this workstation. If you have not yet entered any user names, you may log in as username ADMINISTRATOR and leave the password blank. 2.2 Go to the Admin/Setup Main Menu=> Modules Activation. 2.3 Enter the serial number and module codes. 2.4 Press Activate. *** Installation is complete. *** 4 Perform additional setup steps. 4.1 Create a "default graphics folder" on the network to store external files. The "default graphics folder" is a folder to store graphic files and other objects which will be linked or attached in the Zavanta database. This helps you keep all graphics and external files organized and in a central folder on your PC. 4.2 Include the Zavanta database in your nightly backup routine. Page 4 of 5

5 Troubleshooting Common Problems: If you get the message "Database not found" make sure you enter the correct server name and spell it correctly. If you get any ODBC error message, you may need to update your drivers. The suggested MDAC refresh can be downloaded from Microsoft's website. If you get the message: "Registry: Access denied" check that you have proper access to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Comprose in the registry. Make sure you have latest Zavanta version. If you have previously installed Zavanta or downloaded the setup file, make sure you have a most recent version.
