3 Citrix on a PC Installing Browser Plug-ins Before you log in, if you wish to download the Citrix ICA Web Client, you may access it from the Welcome to Citrix screen. This is a onetime installation and enhances the performance of Citrix. Although you are not required to install the Client plug-in, we recommend you do so when using your home or work-issued machines. When working on other machines (library, public kiosk, on a friend's computer, etc.), we recommend you use the default Java client. 1. If you are on a machine on which you wish to use the client plug-in,click the here link from the All Windows Users: instructions on the main Welcome to Citrix! Page. Your browser will warn you that some files may harm the computer. As this is from a trusted source, you may click the button to begin the installation. Citrix asks you to confirm that you wish to install the Citrix Web Client. 2. Click the button to continue. 10/03/2005 1

4 The application displays the Citrix License Agreement screen. 3. Click the button to accept the agreement. The installation begins. When it is complete, Citrix prompts you to close your web browser. 4. Click the button. 5. Close the browser. 10/03/2005 2

5 Notes for Windows XP Service Pack 2 Users Due to the enhanced security features of Windows XP Service Pack 2, you will need to run a Windows hot-fix and install the client plug-in in order to allow Citrix to run properly. The downloads are available from the Welcome to Citrix screen, which is the first screen you see when you access Citrix. The hot-fix and client may also be downloaded from the following links. Logging In 1. Open Internet Explorer and enter in the Address line. 2. Press the button or press the <Enter> key to open the page. 3. Before you login, please read the Welcome to Citrix! instructions and follow them, if applicable. 4. Enter your network User Name and Password. This is your normal network User Name and Password. 5. 6 Windows may offer to remember your password. 6. Click the button. Accessing Applications On the main Citrix window, on the left hand side you will see a number of icons for your applications. There is also an Alert Broadcaster Message field on the right. At the main Citrix window, you will see a list of applications on the left. The icons displayed on your screen may look different from the image in the screenshot here, based on the applications available to you. Citrix displays a progress bar, letting you know the selected application is opening. 10/03/2005 4

7 If you are on the Java Client, Citrix may display the Warning Security screen. 2. As we know this to be a trusted applet, click the button continue. to The Java client also displays the Connection Center Microsoft Internet Explorer screen. Citrix often minimizes this screen, after it successfully opens an application. You may review which applications you have opened with Citrix on the Connection Center Microsoft Internet Explorer screen. You may also disconnect from an application from this screen. To display the screen, maximize it. The selected application screen displays last in a new window. The application screen may display in front of the Connection Center Microsoft Internet Explorer screen, if it has not been minimized. 10/03/2005 5

8 With either client, the selected application opens in a new window. As you can see from the screenshot, Citrix windows look very much like any other window on your desktop. You may minimize, maximize, or close the application just as you would any other window on your desktop. Logging Off When you have finished your work, close any open Citrix application windows. 1. Click the button in the upper right corner of the window. Citrix issues a message, asking you to confirm your log out. 2. Click the button to disconnect from Citrix. Citrix issues a message that you have logged out of the application. However, you are still connected to your browser. 10/03/2005 6

9 3. If you wish to open the browser default screen, click the icon. 4. If you wish to close Internet Explorer, click the button. Internet Explorer displays a message, asking if you wish to close the browser. 5. If you wish to close the browser, click the button. 10/03/2005 7

10 Citrix Gateway Timeout Error Some users have received an error message that the Citrix Gateway Client has timed out. If you get that message, do the following: Delete the Gateway Client for Metaframe from C:\Windows\Downloaded Programs Files. Windows XP Service Pack 2 Issues Some users have reported a problem when accidentally activating an ActiveX control. Internet Explorer Version 6 working with Windows XP Service Pack 2, triggers a message below the tool bars. If you activate that, it enables an ActiveX control that interferes with Citrix. Perform the following steps to overcome the problem: 1. Open Internet Explorer. 2. Follow the menu path Tools Internet Options. Internet Explorer displays the Internet Options screen, the General tab selected. 10/03/2005 8

11 3. Click the tab. 4. Click the button toward the bottom of the screen. The Security Settings screen displays. 5. Click the button to restore the settings back to the initial defaults. This should resolve the problems between XP, SP2, and Citrix. 10/03/2005 9

12 6. If you've manually changed any security settings, you may either look for the ones that deal with Active-X and disable them before you click the button and then put your settings back. 7. If you haven't or can not find the ones affected, click the Reset button. 8. Click the button to return to the Internet Options screen. 9. Click the button to return to the Internet Explorer main screen. 10/03/

13 Citrix on a MAC Logging In 1. Open Safari and navigate to g. 2. Enter your network User Name and Password. 3. Click the button. The Citrix Access Gateway Enterprise screen displays. Accessing Applications On the main Citrix window, on the left hand side you will see a number of icons for your applications. There is also an Alert Broadcaster Message field on the right. The icons displayed on your screen may look different from the image in this screenshot, based on the applications available to you. 10/03/

14 1. To open an application, single-click the appropriate icon. Citrix displays a progress bar, letting you know the application is opening. The browser prompts you with a message about trusting the Java applet from Citrix Systems. 2. Select the option to trust the applet certificate. 3. Click the button to continue. The selected application opens in a new window. As you can see from the image to the right, Citrix windows look very much like windows on a PC. You may minimize, maximize, or close the application just as you would any other window on your desktop. Some Mac commands (e.g., apple-w to close the window) do not function in Citrix as they would directly for a Mac application window, as the command is not fully understood by the Citrix Presentation servers. You may close windows by clicking the in the upper right corner of the window. 10/03/

15 If you minimize an application, it appears in the dock like a minimized Mac application window. While connected to Citrix, there will be a browser window open to the Connection Center. This screen lists the applications to which you are connected. You may disconnect from an application from this screen as well. Logging Off 1. When you have finished your work, close any open Citrix application windows. 2. Click the button in the upper right corner of the window. Citrix issues a message, asking you to confirm your log out. 3. Click the button to disconnect from Citrix. Citrix issues a message that you have logged out of the application. 10/03/

16 Important Tips Citrix accesses applications differently than the way an application is accessed on a single user machine. As a result, some aspects of some applications may work differently through Citrix than the way you are familiar with them working. In addition, setting changes you have made on your work machine will not be displayed through Citrix until you reset them. In this section, we discuss some of the things we have encountered and offer tips to work around them or set them to more familiar settings. Outlook Contacts Folder When you are creating a new message and click on To, Cc, or Bcc, Outlook displays the Select Names screen. On it, the Show Names from the: drop-down list, displays your Contacts folder and its sub- a folder-name, Outlook displays its contents below. In folders. When you click the current installation of Citrix, Outlook does not automatically display your list of contacts in the Contacts folder or its sub-folders. If you are used to having these displayed, you will need to manually change the settings in order to have Outlook display them. Perform the following steps to achieve this: 1. From any Outlook main screen (i.e., not from a message screen), Follow the menu path Tools Accounts. Outlook displays the Accounts screen. 10/03/

17 2. From the Directory radio buttons, select Add a new directory or address book. 3. Click the button. 4. On the next Accounts screen, select the Additional Address Books radio button. 5. Click the button. 10/03/

18 6. On the next E- mail Accounts screen, highlight Outlook Address Book. 7. Click the button. Outlook prompts you to Exit and restart the application in order for the changes to take effect. 8. Click the button. 9. Exit Outlook. 10. Restart Outlook. Your Outlook Address Book, with the Contacts folder in it, has now been set up. Alternately, if the Address Book has already been set up, Outlook issues the following message: 10/03/

19 11. Click the button to close the message and return to the last E- mail Accounts screen. 12. Click the button to return to the Outlook Main screen. Sub-Folders in Contacts Folder If you have contacts in sub-folders under the Contacts folder and wish to display them, perform the following additional steps: 1. Click in the lower left corner of the Outlook Main screen. Outlook displays the Contacts folder at the top. 10/03/

20 2. Right-click the Contacts sub-folder and select Properties from the pop-up screen. Outlook displays the Contact Properties screen, the General tab selected. 3. Select the Outlook Address Book tab. 10/03/

21 4. Select the Show this folder as an Address Book check-box. Note: If you have no sub-folders in the Contacts folder or have no contacts in them, this check-box may be grayed out. 5. Click the button. Outlook has now added your Contacts sub-folder and its contents to the Outlook Address Book. 6. Perform steps 1-5 for any other sub-folders under your Contacts sub-folder. Outlook has now added the sub-folder under your Contacts sub-folder and its contents. As you perhaps know, there are currently two (2) presentation servers (i.e., the machines on which the applications are actually running). If you perform these steps, then log in tomorrow and don't see your contacts on the Select Names screen, you have connected to the other presentation server. You have to fix the options again. But you need only make the change once per server. 10/03/

22 Word If MSWord or another MSOffice product crashes and you get kicked out of Citrix, the recovery file is on the Citrix presentation server you are using. It is not on the local hard drive of your machine. You will not be able to recover the document outside of Citrix. If you connect to the other presentation server when you log in next time, you will still be unable to recover your file. A good practice is to save often. In this case, you might have made only a few changes after the last save and can easily redo them in the current file without searching for the recovery file. To save quickly, press the CTRL and S keys simultaneously. Network Drives From the Citrix Access Gateway Enterprise screen, you may not browse the network. However, there is a way to access the network using the map network drives function. Perform the following steps to map a network drive: 1. From the Citrix Access Gateway Enterprise screen, click the icon. Citrix displays the contents of your H: drive. 2. Click the down arrow in the Address field to display additional drives. Citrix displays the H: (personal share, if any) drive and I: (departmental share) drive. 10/03/

23 3. Follow the menu path Tools Map Network Drive. Citrix displays the Map Network Drive screen. 4. From the Drive drop-down list, select a drive letter that is not already in use. 5. Click button. the The Browse for Folder screen displays. You may not be able to map directly to some servers. You may have to map to a folder on that drive. Browse the network for Forte or nprserv or any other network drive to which you have access and select a folder. 6. Click the button. 10/03/

24 Citrix returns you to the Map Network Drive screen. 7. Click the button (which will not be grayed out now). The folder you selected is now mapped to the selected drive. 8. Click the down arrow in the Address field to verify. Kronos Kronos is designed for a 1024x768 resolution. Some of you may have smaller resolutions on your PC/Laptop. This causes the Citrix window to open larger than your browser window. You may use the scrollbars to view the parts of the screen that are not 10/03/

25 initially visible. If the scrollbars are missing, you may use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move to other parts of the screen. Browser 32 In Browser 32, you may only play sound files, not edl files. If you try to open an edl file, Citrix issues the following error message: Viewing this kind of item is not yet possible in Browser 32. In Browser 32, you may notice some files take a while to begin playing and are then cut off early (sometimes up to 10 or 15 seconds). If you are using Windows with the ICA Web client and you encounter this issue, contact the Help Desk for assistance at x2980 or itsupport@npr.org. Resizing Issues Some users have had issues when maximizing windows on a Mac and issues when minimizing to the dock. For some, when using the maximize button on the Mac, the title bar (which contains the minimize, the maximize, and the close buttons), gets hidden behind the top options bar. It is probably beneficial for Mac users to resize windows manually. Similarly, some Mac users have been unable to restore a window that has been minimized to the dock. Very few have had this problem, but it may be worth a warning.
