1 Installing the Windows Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver This ReadMe file contains the instructions for installing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver on Windows systems. The Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver allows you to send PostScript or PCL language jobs to the printer and enable printer specific features. This allows you to print from standard desktop applications such as word processors, presentation graphics, and image manipulation software. The Custom PostScript and PCL Printer Drivers can be installed on the following operating systems: Windows 7 32-bit Windows Vista 32-bit Windows Server bit Windows XP 32-bit The procedures for installing the Windows Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver assume that you have a zip program installed on your system. Before proceeding, verify with your Windows administrator that you have the appropriate privileges to install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver. If you have any old versions of the Printer Driver installed on your system, delete the old version before installing the new version. For more information, see Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver at the end of this document. 1

2 To install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver on Windows 7: 1. If this computer has had a previous version of this driver installed, go to the Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver section of this document first, then proceed with the installation. 2. Close all open applications. 3. Navigate to the folder where you saved the.zip file. 4. Double-click the PSDW32_<brand>_xx_xx_<language>.zip or PCLW32_<brand>_>_xx_xx_<language>..zip file. A window appears and displays the contents of the.zip file. 5. Extract the files to a folder on your Hard Drive. Note: If you choose to unzip the file at c:\ on your hard drive, the unzipped file will be located at: c:\<brand>\ps_xx.xx\<language> folder, or c:\<brand>\pcl_xx.xx\<language> 6. Close the zip program. 7. Select Start > Control Panel. 8. Select Hardware and Sound, if necessary. 9. Select Devices and Printers 10. Select Add a printer. 11. Click Add a local printer. 12. The Choose a printer port window appears. 13. Do ONE of the following: From the Use the following port list, select the port to use and click Next. If you have not created a TCP/IP port for the printer, use the following steps: - Select Create a new port. - From the Type drop-down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next. - From the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Next. - From the Add Printer window, in the Printer Name or IP Address field, type the IP address for the printer - If the selection for Query the Printer and automatically select the driver to use is selected, de-select it. - Click Next. - From the Additional Port Information Required window, select Custom and click Settings. - From the Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor window, select LPR from the Protocol area. - In the Queue Name field of the LPR Settings area, type default. - Select LPR Byte Counting Enabled and click OK. - From the Additional Port Information Required window, click Next. The Install the printer driver window appears. 14. Click Have Disk. The Install From Disk window appears. 2

3 15. Click Browse. The Locate File window appears. 16. Navigate to the location where you unzipped file, and browse through the <Brand>, <Version> and <Language> folders to find the.inf file. 17. Select the.inf file for the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver. 18. Click Open. The Install From Disk window returns. 19. Click OK. The Install the printer driver window returns. 20. Click Next. NOTE: If the Which version of the driver do you want to use? window appears, stop and remove the existing driver first. See the Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver section in this document. The Type a printer name window appears. 21. In the Printer name field, modify the name of the Printer Driver, if desired. 22. Click Next. NOTE: If the Windows Security window appears and states that Windows cannot verify the publisher of the driver software, click Install this driver software anyway. The Printer Sharing window appears. 23. When installing the PostScript driver, the next screen to appear is the Printer Sharing Window. Select Do Not Share this printer. When installing the PCL driver, it does not give this option. 24. Click Next. After the files are installed, the You've successfully added the <printer name> window appears. 25. If you want to print a test page, click Print a test page. 26. Click Finish. The Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver is ready to be used. 27. Close the Printers window. 28. Close the Control Panel window. 29. If this is the first time you have installed this driver, rebooting the PC is not necessary. However, if you have upgraded to a new version of this driver, rebooting the PC is recommended. 3

4 To install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver on Windows Vista 1. If this computer has had a previous version of this driver installed, go to the Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver section of this document first, then proceed with the installation. 2. Close all open applications. 3. Navigate to the folder into which you saved the.zip file. 4. Double-click the PSDW32_<brand>_xx_xx_<language>.zip or PCLW32_<brand>_>_xx_xx_<language>..zip file. A window appears and displays the contents of the.zip file. 5. Extract the files to a folder on your Hard Drive. Close the zip program. 7. Select Start > Control Panel. 8. Select Control Panel Home, if necessary. 9. From the Hardware and Sound list, select Printer. The Printers window appears. 10. Click Add a printer. The Choose a local or network printer window appears. 11. Click Add a local printer. The Choose a printer port window appears. 12. Do ONE of the following: From the Use the following port list, select the port to use and click Next. If you have not created a TCP/IP port for the printer, use the following steps: - Select Create a new port. - From the Type drop-down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next. - From the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Next. - From the Add Port window, in the Printer Name or IP Address field, type the IP address for the printer and click Next. - From the Additional Port Information Required window, select Custom and click Settings. - From the Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor window, select LPR from the Protocol area. - In the Queue Name field of the LPR Settings area, type default. - Select LPR Byte Counting Enabled and click OK. - From the Additional Port Information Required window, click Next. - From the Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Finish. NOTE: If the Which version of the driver do you want to use? window appears, stop and remove the exisiting driver first. See the Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver section in this document. The Type a printer name window appears. 20. In the Printer name field, modify the name of the Printer Driver, if desired. 21. Do ONE of the following: If you want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, select Set as the default printer. If you do not want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, deselect Set as the default printer. 22. Click Next. NOTE: If the Windows Security window appears and states that Windows cannot verify the publisher of the driver software, click Install this driver software anyway. The Printer Sharing window appears. 23. Select Do not share this printer. When installing the PCL driver, it does not give this option. 24. Click Next. 6 To install the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver on Windows Server 2003 or Window XP: 1. If this computer has had a previous version of this driver installed, go to the Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver section of this document first, then proceed with the installation. 2. Close all open applications. 3. Navigate to the folder into which you saved the.zip file. 4. Double-click the PSDW32_<brand>_xx_xx_<language>.zip or PCLW32_<brand>_>_xx_xx_<language>..zip file. A window appears and displays the contents of the.zip file. 5. Extract the files to a folder on your Hard Drive. Note: If you choose to unzip the file at c:\ on your hard drive, the unzipped file will be located at: c:\<brand>\ps_xx.xx\<language> folder, or c:\<brand>\pcl_xx.xx\<language> 6. Close the zip program. 7. Select Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes. The Printers window appears. 8. Double-click Add Printer. The Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard window appears. 9. Click Next. The Local or Network Printer window appears. 10. Select Local printer. 11. Deselect Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. 12. Click Next. The Select a Printer Port window appears. 13. Do ONE of the following: From the Use the following port list, select the port to use and click Next. If you have not created a TCP/IP port for the printer, use the steps below: - Select Create a new port. - From the Type drop-down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next. - From the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Next. - From the Add Port window, in the Printer Name or IP Address field, type the IP address for the printer and click Next. - From the Additional Port Information Required window, select Custom and click Settings. - From the Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor window, select LPR from the Protocol area. - In the Queue Name field of the LPR Settings area, type default. - Select LPR Byte Counting Enabled and click OK. - From the Additional Port Information Required window, click Next. - From the Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Finish. The Add Printer Wizard window appears. 14. Click Have Disk. The Install From Disk window appears. 15. Click Browse. The Locate File window appears. 6

7 16. Navigate to the location where you unzipped file, and browse through the <Brand>, <Version> and <Language> folders to find the.inf file. 17. Select the.inf file for the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver. 18. Click Open. The Install From Disk window returns. 19. Click OK. The Add Printer Wizard window returns. 20. Click Next. NOTE: If the Use Existing Driver window appears, select Replace existing driver, stop and remove the existing driver first See the Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver section in this document. The Name Your Printer window appears. 21. In the Printer name field, modify the name of the Printer Driver, if desired. 22. Do ONE of the following: If you want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, select Yes. If you do not want the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver to be the default printer, select No. 23. Click Next. The Printer Sharing window appears. 24. Select Do not share this printer. 25. Click Next. The Print Test Page window appears. 26. Do ONE of the following: If you want to print a test page, select Yes. If you do not want to print a test page, select No. 27. Click Next. The Completing the Add Printer Wizard window appears. 28. Click Finish. The Digital Signature Not Found window appears. 29. Click Yes. The Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver is ready to be used. 30. Close the Printers window. 31. If this is the first time you have installed this driver, rebooting the PC is not necessary. However, if you have upgraded to a new version of this driver, rebooting the PC is recommended. 7

8 Removing the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver To effectively remove the Printer Driver, you must remove all printers that use the driver and then remove the driver itself. To remove the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver from Windows 7: Note: "The Printer" is the OEM Brand you installed. For example, Kodak Digimaster Select Start > Control Panel. 2. Select Control Panel Home, if necessary. 3. Select System & Security, if necessary 4. Select Administrative Tools. 5. Select Print Management. 6. Select the Custom Filters Folder 7. Select the All Printers Folder 8. Right Click The Printer 9. Select Delete 10. Select the All Drivers Folder 11. Right Click The Printer 12. Select Remove Driver Package 13. Select Delete 14. Select OK NOTE: If the Print Server Properties message appears and states that the Printer Driver is in use, click OK, restart the computer, and repeat this procedure. 15. Close the window 16. Close Administrative Tool window 17. Close Control Panel Window 8

9 To remove the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver from Windows Vista: 1. Select Start > Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears. 2. Select Control Panel Home, if necessary. 3. From the Hardware and sound list, select Printer. The Printers window appears. 4. Do one of the following: Right-click the Custom PostScript or PCL Driver that you want to remove and select Remove Device. Select the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver that you want to remove and press [DELETE]. The Printers message appears and confirms that you want to remove the printer. 5. Click Yes. 6. From the Folders list in the left pane of the Printers window, right-click Printers and select Run as Administrator, then select Server Properties. The Print Server Properties window appears. 7. Select the Drivers tab. 8. Select the Printer Driver to remove. 9. Click Remove. The Remove Driver And Package window appears. 10. Select Remove driver and driver package. 11. Click OK. The Print Server Properties message appears and confirms that you really want to remove the Printer Driver. 12. Click Yes. NOTE: If the Print Server Properties message appears and states that the Printer Driver is in use, click OK, restart the computer, and repeat this procedure. 13. Click Close to close the Print Server Properties window. 14. Close the Printers window. 15. Close the Control Panel window. 16. Restart the system. 9

10 To remove the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver from Windows XP or Windows Server 2003: 1. Select Start > Printers and Faxes. The Printers and Faxes window appears. 2. Do one of the following: Right-click the Custom PostScript or PCL Driver that you want to remove and select Delete. Select the Custom PostScript or PCL Printer Driver that you want to remove and press [DELETE]. The Printers message appears and confirms that you want to remove the printer. 3. Click Yes. 4. Open the Printers and Faxes window. To do so, right-mouse-click the Printers and Faxes line from Start -> Settings. Select Explore. 5. From the Printers and Faxes window, select File > Server Properties. The Print Server Properties window appears. 6. Select the Drivers tab. 7. Select the Printer Driver to remove. 8. Click Remove. The Print Server Properties message appears and confirms that you really want to remove the Printer Driver. 9. Click Yes. NOTE: If the Print Server Properties message appears and states that the Printer Driver is in use, click OK, restart the computer, and repeat this procedure from step Click Close to close the Print Server Properties window. 11. Close the Printers and Faxes window. 12. Restart the system is an option. 10
