1 Instructions self-extracting zip files Some readers have experienced problems with the self-extracting zip files. These instructions are intended to assist in learning the process. We all use different versions of Windows, Office and different browsers. They may have quite different settings. We may also have different zip software on our PC. To open self-extracting zip files it is not necessary to have any zip software, but if you do, it could affect what you see. These instructions are in two sections: Windows 7 and Windows XP. Please read the section relevant to the version of Windows you are using. With other earlier versions of Windows, if your screens look different to mine, try to execute a similar step on your PC. The same will apply to the WinZip screens for various versions, though they should all be similar. If you encounter problems in following these instructions, please me, giving me the steps you followed with screenshots (snipping tool or Prt Sc and Ctrl+V). Two sections follow, the first based on Windows 7 and the second based on Windows XP. 1

2 Windows 7/ Office 2010/ Internet Explorer 9-based instructions Open and click on Free Resources in the free websitesite menu bar at the top of the home page: From the drop-down menu, click Data and Other Files: The Data and Other Files page should open: Using Coppock Spreadsheets as an example, scroll down if necessary to that section of the page, which should look like this: Left click on the link: 2

3 You should see this: Left click on Run and this should open: Click on Actions and this should open: This is not unusual for.exe files. Click the v next to More Options and this should open: Click the arrow next to Run Anyway and this should open: 3

4 Click Browse and navigate to the folder to which you want to download the spreadsheets file: (I will assume for the explanation that you download to the Desktop) After clicking Browse, this should appear: Select Desktop and click OK. This will take you back to: Click Unzip. This should appear. Click OK and this should appear: Go to your desktop and there should be an icon for the file(s) you have unzipped: 4

5 Double left click the icon and the workbook of spreadsheets should open for you. If you unzipped your file(s) to another folder, navigate there with Windows Explorer (My Computer). Note As explained on the Resources page, you will need Excel 2007 or 2010 installed on your PC to open the workbook of spreadsheets, which is in the Microsoft Office 2007/2010 format (xlsx). If you have an earlier version of Microsoft Office or Microsoft Excel, you will first need to download the free Compatibility Pack from the Microsoft website. There is a link on the Resources page to the download page on the Microsoft website. 5

8 Left click OK. You should now see this: Left click Unzip and you should see this: Left click OK and you should be left with this: Left click close Navigate to your desktop and you should see the icon for the spreadsheets file: 8

9 Double left click the icon and the workbook of spreadsheets should open for you.
