4 1 Overview This document details how to configure enterprise mode for Internet Explorer (IE). Enterprise Mode enables content to be viewed in the web browser in a lower version of IE. Maximo supports IE browsers in Standard mode. However, you may be using 3rd party products which support IE versions 10/11 in compatibility mode only. Because of these product support variations, you may want to evaluate using enterprise mode for IE 10/11. An example of this scenario is Cognos which supports IE 10/11 in compatibility mode only. 1.1 Configuration Notes A. Enterprise Mode needs to be enabled on each client machine where Maximo and Cognos - or only Cognos - will be used. B. If a client machine is only using Maximo - configuring IE in enterprise mode would not be required. 1.2 Access A. The user enabling this configuration must have administration privileges to the client machine.

5 Maximo 76 Enabling Enterprise Mode_Internet Explorer 1.3 Prerequisites A. Before configuring IE, download Enterprise Mode Site List Manager. An example url where this can be downloaded is here: B. Install Enterprise Mode Site List Manager. Select the applicable Windows version, Terms and Conditions and the default file location. Click Finish when the install is complete. 5

6 2 Configuration Steps 2.1 Site URLs A. Identify the Maximo url and any other url that is required to display IE 10/11 in Enterprise Mode. For each unique domain name, a separate entry will be required in the Enterprise Mode Site List Manager. In the example used in this document, Maximo and Cognos are hosted on the same server and their urls are: Maximo Cognos bflo xyzlab.buffalo.ibm.com/ibmcognos 2.2 Configure Enterprise Mode Site List Manager (EMSLA) A. Open EMSLA. Select Add. Enter the url(s) of the sites to display in enterprise mode, along with the version of IE the content should be displayed in. Click Save.

7 Maximo 76 Enabling Enterprise Mode_Internet Explorer B. From the menu, select File - Save to XML. In the dialog, specific a file name and a location path you will remember. In this example, the file is 'maximo_test.xml'. C. Navigate to the file you created in the step above. Open the XML file in a text editor. Confirm its contents and update it as shown in red. <rules version="15"> <emie> <domain exclude="false"> xyzlab.buffalo.ibm.com</domain> </emie> </rules> Save and exit. *Note: These updates are made so you can quickly confirm your configuration in the registry settings. 7

8 2.3 Configure Local Policy Editor (LPE) A. Enter gpedit.msc in Start Window to access Local Policy Editor. B. When LPE displays, navigate down via this path Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Internet Explorer Confirm you are on the 'Standard' Tab as shown at the bottom of the page. C. Double click on the setting 'Let users turn on and use Enterprise Mode from the Tools menu'.

9 Maximo 76 Enabling Enterprise Mode_Internet Explorer D. Change from the default value of 'Not Configured' to Enabled. Click Apply. E. Then, enter the file path to the file you created in Step 2.2B. Click apply. Be sure to utilize the file syntax as shown below. file://c:/7602/maximo_test.xml Click OK to close the dialog. 9

10 2.4 Confirm Registry Settings A. Next, confirm Enterprise Mode displays in the registry settings. To do this, enter regedit in Start Window. Sign in with administrator password if required. B. Navigate down the path to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Policies - Microsoft - Internet Explorer - Main - Enterprise Mode Confirm the data is configured to the xml updated in step 2B. Right click on Enterprise Mode. Select New - String Value. Modify the value to add 'SiteList' with the same path to your configured xml file. This results in the updated setting as shown below.

Navigate down the path to HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Microsoft - Internet Explorer - Main Confirm Enterprise Mode is shown as highlighted below. (Note - The Data version highlighted with the red arrow should correlate to the xml rules version you set in step 2.2.B. 11

12 2.5 Confirm enterprise mode displays in the browser A. Open up IE 10/11. Bring up the tools menu, by clicking on the ALT key anywhere on the screen. From the tools menu, clear the browser cache. - Close the IE 10/11 window. B. Bring up a new IE 10/11 window. Enter the Maximo url. Notice Enterprise mode displays with the building icon as highlighted by the red arrow above. You will continue to see the enterprise mode icon as you navigate among the various Maximo applications

14 2.6 Troubleshooting Recommendations 1. If Enterprise mode does not display, confirm you have A. Cleared the browser cache in Internet Explorer, and brought up a new browser B. That you are using either Internet Explorer 10 or 11
