3 1 Introduction 3 Chapter 1: Introduction The CLINCK Speed Manager is a single PC cyber cafe manager with 24 features to keep the computers of your cafe clean, safe, and fast. All these features are optional and enabling and disabling them is as simple as a single click of the mouse. The application is available to cyber cafe owners free of cost along with the CLINCK Desktop, which is a navigational tool that provides the cafe s customers an interactive desktop to search and access content. 1.1 About the User Manual The purpose of this manual is to help you use the CLINCK Speed Manager effectively in order to safeguard the computers in your cafe. The manual provides detailed instructions on how to install and configure the application, describes the advantage and effect of each of its 24 features, as well as explains the purpose and usage of the various buttons on its main screen. 1.2 Intended Audience This user manual is intended for a person with minimal knowledge of computers, who will install the CLINCK Speed Manager and enable or disable its features based on the speed and safety requirements of your cafe s computer terminals. 1.3 Conventions Used The following table explains the conventions used to indicate specific content in this manual: Convention Bold Arial Arial Italics Note Caution Explanation For field, menu, option, and window names. For commands as you should type them. For output as generated by the system. For notes and URLs. The Note icon indicates information that is of special interest or importance. For example, an additional action required only in certain circumstances. The Caution icon indicates actions that can lead to damage if the instructions are not followed properly. 4 4 Chapter Revision History This is the first version of the CLINCK Speed Manager user manual. 1.5 Overview of the CLINCK Speed Manager A product of Ideacts Innovations, the CLINCK Speed Manager is a standalone application useful for efficient cyber cafe management that includes the security, speed, and maintenance of your cafe s computer terminals. The application has 24 easy to use features that change different settings of the computer to suit your needs such speed, protection, and smooth operation. None of the 24 features of the CLINCK Speed Manager is mandatory, and you can select which features you want to use. Each feature can be enabled or disabled by simply clicking one button. However, once a feature is enabled, users cannot change it because the application is password protected. The CLINCK Speed Manager is operational in more than 250 cities of India. It follows the security rules of the country s law enforcement agencies, thus contributing to national security. Cyber cafe owners can obtain the CLINCK Speed Manager free of cost. Being a single PC application, it does not need a server to run. Further, it comes with the CLINCK Desktop, which is a navigational tool that provides an interactive desktop to your cafe s customers for searching and accessing content. In addition to a clean and easily accessible desktop, the CLINCK Desktop provides utilities such as the Google search bar; news; brand offers; quick links for internet sites such as Facebook; and content on topics such as cricket, movies, and education. The benefits of installing the CLINCK Speed Manager on your cafe s computer terminals: It prevents regular formatting of the PC. Users cannot change the PC settings. Users cannot download files to the PC. It makes the PC work faster. Users cannot uninstall applications from the PC. The PC s shutdown process takes less time. Users cannot change the PC s display settings such as resolution, background, and icons. No cookies and temporary internet files are saved on the PC.

7 2 Installation and Setup 7 Chapter 2: Installation and Setup The CLINCK Speed Manager must be installed and configured separately on each computer terminal of your cyber cafe. This is a simple process, as explained in this chapter. 2.1 System Requirements The terminal on which you install the CLINCK Speed Manager should meet the following system requirements: Specification Requirement Installer size 5.19 MB Operating system Windows XP Internet connection Required Processor 800 MHz or more Resolution 1024 x 768 RAM 128 MB or more Internet Explorer Version 6 or up Time to install 5 minutes Table 2.1: System Requirements Other requirements before installation: Log into the computer in the administrator mode. Ensure that the internet connection on the computer is active. Keep the cafe code that you received in your from Ideacts at the time of registration handy; it will be needed during installation. 2.2 Installation To install the CLINCK Speed Manager on your cafe s computer terminal, you need to download its installer file from the CLINCK website ( and run it on the terminal. Both these procedures are explained in this section Downloading the Installer 1) In your internet browser, open the link

9 Installation and Setup 9 Figure 2.2: File Download for the CLINCK Speed Manager 3) In the File Download dialog box, click Open to download the installer and run it directly without saving, or click Save to save it at a chosen location on your computer. Result: The CLINCK Speed Manager installer is downloaded Running the Installer 1) Run the installer file from the location where you extracted it. The CLINCK Speed Manager InstallShield Wizard appears and begins extracting the files needed to install the CLINCK Speed Manager on the computer. 11 Installation and Setup 11 2) Click Next. The Choose Destination Location screen of the wizard appears, in which the default destination folder is displayed. Figure 2.6: CLINCK Speed Manager InstallShield Wizard Choose Destination Location 3) (Optional) If you want to change the destination folder, click Browse and select the desired folder to install the CLINCK Speed Manager. 4) Click Next. The wizard begins installing the CLINCK Speed Manager software on the computer and the Setup Status screen of the wizard is displayed.

A dialog box appears, informing that the computer needs to be restarted to complete the installation.

Result: The CLINCK Speed Manager is successfully installed on the computer terminal. 2.3 Setup Once the CLINCK Speed Manager is installed, a 2 step setup wizard helps you quickly activate the terminal and configure important settings. This procedure is explained below: After the installation, the Activate Terminal (Step1/2) dialog box appears. Figure 2.10: Setup Wizard Activate Terminal (Step 1/2) 1) In the box provided for the cyber cafe code in the dialog box, type the cafe code that you received from Ideacts when you registered your cafe on the CLINCK partners website. 2) Click Verify. Your cafe s Owner Name and Address are displayed in the dialog box.

Figure 2.12: Setup Wizard Admin Password (Step 2/2) 4) In the Password box, type a password that you will use to access the CLINCK Speed Manager. 5) In the Confirm Password box, retype the password. Note The admin password should be remembered or recorded in a safe place for future use. If the password is forgotten, the CLINCK Speed Manager needs to be uninstalled and then reinstalled. 6) Click Finish.

16 16 Chapter 2 7) On the main screen, if needed, click on some or all features of the CLINCK Speed Manager to enable them as per requirement. You can also click Change Password to set a new admin password for the application. Note See Chapter 3 for information on how to enable the recommended or all features of the CLINCK Speed Manager, as well as how to change the application s admin password. See Chapter 4 for detailed information about all the features. 8) On the main screen, click Close to save any settings that you changed and to close the main screen. Result: The terminal is activated and the CLINCK Speed Manager is configured on it.

17 3 Main Screen 17 Chapter 3: Main Screen The main screen of the CLINCK Speed Manager is where you can enable or disable the application s features as needed by clicking once on the appropriate button. Here, you can also change the application s admin password. 18 18 Chapter Features The Features section of the CLINCK Speed Manager s main screen contains buttons for all the 24 features of the application. A feature is enabled and disabled alternately every time its button is clicked. By default, all features are disabled. Figure 3.2: Features section of the main screen Note See Chapter 4 for detailed information about all the features. 3.2 Quick Buttons The Quick Buttons section of the CLINCK Speed Manager s main screen consists of five buttons that make certain tasks such as enabling or disabling all the features of the application faster and easier. These five buttons are explained in the sub sections that follow.

21 3.2.3 Recommended Settings Main Screen 21 Figure 3.7: Recommended Settings button The recommended settings of the CLINCK Speed Manager comprise features that are important to keep your cafe s computers clean, safe, and fast. The Recommended Settings button lets you enable different recommended features together in one click. In other words, you do not need to click separately on the buttons of all such features. 22 22 Chapter Change Password Figure 3.9: Change Password button Using this button, you can change the admin password of the CLINCK Speed Manager so that other users cannot change its features once enabled. The procedure to change the admin password is as follows: 1) Click the Change Password button. The Change Admin Password dialog box appears. 2) In the Existing Password box of the dialog box, type the existing admin password of the CLINCK Speed Manager. 3) In the New Password box, type the new admin password you want to set for the CLINCK Speed Manager. 4) In the Confirm New Password box, type the new password again. Figure 3.10: Change Admin Password dialog box 5) Click Submit to change the application s admin password to the new one that you typed, or click Close to close the dialog box without changing the password. If you click Submit, the following dialog box appears, confirming that the password has been successfully changed. Figure 3.11: Password Changed dialog box

23 3.2.5 Close Main Screen 23 When you click this button, the main screen of the CLINCK Speed Manager closes after saving any changes made to the settings of the application s features. Figure 3.12: Close button You can open the main screen again from the CLINCK Speed Manager icon that appears on the Windows taskbar when the application is installed and configured on the computer. To open the main screen, do as follows: 1) Right click the icon on the taskbar, and then select Start CLINCK Speed Manager. Figure 3.14: Admin Login dialog box 2) In the Admin Password box of the dialog box, type the admin password for the CLINCK Speed Manager, and then click Login. 25 4 Features 25 Chapter 4: Features The CLINCK Speed Manager has 24 features that ensure the safety, speed, and smooth operation of your cafe s computer terminals. All the features are available under the different buttons that appear on the main screen. Using each feature is optional, and clicking on any of the buttons will enable and disable the feature alternately. 26 26 Chapter 4 Note The terminal needs to be restarted for the following features to take effect: Disable Control Panel Hide Network Neighborhood Delete Temp Files on every Restart Disable Save Setting on Exit Clear History of Recently Opened Documents on Exit Remove Run Command Remove Find/Search Menu Disable Log Off When these settings are enabled or disabled, a dialog box appears, which informs that the computer needs to be restarted to enable the settings and asks whether you want to do so now or later (see Figure 4.2). 27 Features Disable Lock Computer A customer might sometimes lock a terminal of your cafe using the Lock Computer option of Windows. If a terminal is unwantedly locked by a user, you will have to unlock the terminal for other users. CLINCK Speed Manager s Disable Lock Computer feature helps overcome this problem by preventing users from locking the computer. When this feature is enabled, the Windows + L option used for locking the computer does not work. Further, in the Windows Security dialog box that appears on pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL, the Lock Computer tab is disabled. 28 28 Chapter Hide Registry Editor Unwanted changes to settings in the registry can lead to various problems that affect the proper functioning of the terminal. The Hide Registry Editor feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager prevents users from deleting or changing any settings or Important Information from the registry, and thus ensures smooth functioning of the terminal. When this feature is enabled, the Registry Editor tool of Windows is disabled, and thus inaccessible to the user. Figure 4.5: Accessing the Registry Editor

29 Features 29 Figure 4.6: When Hide Registry Editor is disabled Figure 4.7: When Hide Registry Editor is enabled 4.3 Delete Temp Files on every Restart Regularly deleting cookies and temporary files from the computer terminal keeps the hard disk clean and the computer healthy. The Delete Temp Files on every Restart feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager helps in this. When this feature is enabled, cookies and temporary files are deleted from the computer every time it is restarted.

31 Features 31 Figure 4.9: When Delete Temp Files on every Restart is enabled Note When this feature is enabled or disabled, the computer terminal needs to be restarted for the change to take effect. 4.4 Disable Personalized Menu The Windows Start menu can be personalized if you right click it and access the Properties option. The Disable Personalized Menu feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager disables the Properties option, thus preventing the user from adding or removing programs in the Start menu or changing the size of the Desktop icons. When this feature is enabled, the Properties option available when you right click the Start menu does not work.

33 4.5 Speed up Shutdown Time Features 33 As the terminals in your cafe might need to be shut down frequently, it will help if the shutdown process is made faster. The Speed up Shutdown Time feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager reduces the computer s shutdown time. When this feature is enabled, the computer settings are not saved before shutdown. 4.6 Remove Run Command Using the Run command of Windows, a user can access hard drives or execute programs and commands on the terminal, which may affect the proper functioning of the computer. The Remove Run Command of the CLINCK Speed Manager hides the Run command in the Start menu, thus preventing the user from opening drives and running programs or commands. When this feature is enabled, the Run command in the Start menu is hidden, and thus inaccessible to the user. Figure 4.13: When Remove Run Command is disabled

34 34 Chapter 4 Figure 4.14: When Remove Run Command is enabled Note When this feature is enabled or disabled, the computer terminal needs to be restarted for the change to take effect. 4.7 Speed up Folder Browsing Speed up Folder Browsing is another feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager that makes the terminal work faster. Enabling this feature makes the folders on the computer open instantly. When this feature is enabled, it allows quick access to the folders on the computer s hard disks. 4.8 Disable Internet Options Menu Users might sometimes unnecessarily change the internet browser settings on your cafe s terminals. The Disable Internet Options Menu feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager prevents unwanted changes in the settings of the internet browser. When this feature is enabled, the Internet Options feature in browsers such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox does not work.

36 36 Chapter 4 Figure 4.17: When Disable Internet Options Menu is enabled 4.9 Disable Change Password for Windows You can keep the computer terminals of your cafe secure by preventing unauthorized users from changing the Windows password. The Disable Change Password for Windows feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager helps protect the terminal by restricting access to the option to change the Windows password. 37 Features 37 Figure 4.19: When Disable Change Password for Windows is enabled 4.10 Write Protect USB Drives You might have to explain to law enforcement agencies how you prevent unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material in your cafe. This can be done by demonstrating the Write Protect USB Drives feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager, which prevents users from copying unauthorized software and data like music and videos from your cafe s terminals on to USB drives. Restricting USB drives on terminals also stops the spread of viruses on the café network. When this feature is enabled, it does not allow the user to save or copy any files to a USB drive attached to the terminal. Figure 4.20: When Write Protect USB Drives is disabled

The Disable Display Setting feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager prevents the user from changing the display settings of the computer, which can normally be accessed from the Control Panel. When this feature is enabled, the Windows Display Properties dialog box, which is accessed from the Control Panel, becomes inaccessible to the user.

40 40 Chapter 4 Figure 4.24: When Disable Display Setting is enabled 4.12 Disable Save Setting on Exit As the terminals in your cafe might need to be shut down frequently, it will help if the shutdown time is reduced. The Disable Save Setting on Exit feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager makes the shutdown process of the computer faster. When this feature is enabled, the process of saving computer settings before shutdown is skipped. Note When this feature is enabled or disabled, the computer terminal needs to be restarted for the change to take effect.

41 Features Restrict Resolution to 1024*768 Most internet sites are made for and best viewed in the 1024*768 screen resolution. The Restrict Resolution to 1024*768 feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager locks the screen resolution at 1024*768 by not allowing the user to change the display settings. When this feature is enabled, in the Windows Display Properties dialog box that is accessed from the Control Panel, the Settings tab is hidden and thus inaccessible to the user. 43 4.14 Disable Printer Access Features 43 Users might sometimes give unnecessary print commands from your cafe s terminals, causing wastage of paper and printer ink. The Disable Printer Access feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager prevents unwanted or unnecessary printout requests from the computer terminals. When this feature is enabled, the terminal cannot access the printers on your cafe s computer network. 44 44 Chapter Disable Log Off The Disable Log Off feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager provides security to the terminals of your cafe by preventing the user from logging off or switching to another user on the computer. When this feature is enabled, the Windows options to log off from the current user account or switch to another user are hidden, and thus unavailable to the user. The computer can only be shut down. 45 Features 45 Figure 4.31: When Disable Log Off is enabled Note When this feature is enabled or disabled, the computer terminal needs to be restarted for the change to take effect Disable Save As for Downloaded Files Users might sometimes save unnecessary software or data on the hard disk of your cafe s terminal. The Disable Save As for Downloaded Files feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager does not allow the user to do so, thus preventing downloads of unwanted files from the internet and also saving space on the hard disk. When this feature is enabled, it will block any files from being downloaded to the hard disk of the computer.

47 4.17 Disable Control Panel Features 47 Improper changes to the computer settings from the Control Panel can affect the proper functioning of the terminals of your cafe. The Disable Control Panel feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager helps overcome this problem by preventing users from making unauthorized changes to the terminal s settings from the Control Panel. When this feature is enabled, the Control Panel option in the Start menu is hidden, and thus inaccessible to the user. Figure 4.34: When Disable Control Panel is disabled

49 Features Hide Network Neighborhood For security reasons, you can prevent access between the terminals on your cafe s computer network. This can be done using the Hide Network Neighborhood feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager, which ensures that the user at one terminal cannot access the other terminals on the network and cannot copy files to or from them. When this feature is enabled, the Network Neighborhood and My Network Places are hidden from the user. Figure 4.36: When Hide Network Neighborhood is disabled

50 50 Chapter 4 Figure 4.37: When Hide Network Neighborhood is enabled Note When this feature is enabled or disabled, the computer terminal needs to be restarted for the change to take effect Prevent Change to Taskbar and Start Menu Hiding the Windows taskbar or changing its size or position can cause inconvenience to other users. The Prevent Change to Taskbar and Start Menu feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager stops the user from changing the size and position of the taskbar, as well as the Quick Launch icons on it. When this feature is enabled, the user cannot make changes to the taskbar and the Start menu.

It also keeps the terminal s hard disk clean. On enabling this feature, no data such as cookies or temporary internet files from any website visited is stored on the terminal. When this feature is enabled, the browsing history in Internet Explorer is not saved.

55 Features Clear History of Recently Opened Documents on Exit The Clear History of Recently Opened Documents on Exit feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager prevents users from opening files used by the previous user, thus protecting private information against unauthorized access. When this feature is enabled, no documents are displayed under Recent Documents in the Windows Start menu. The Remove Find/Search Menu feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager helps in preventing this problem. When this feature is enabled, the CTRL + F and F3 keys on the terminal s keyboard do not work. Further, the Search option in the Windows Start menu is hidden, and thus inaccessible to the user. 61 4.24 Hide All Drives Features 61 The Hide All Drives feature of the CLINCK Speed Manager protects the hard disk of your cafe s computer terminal from unnecessary files, thus keeping it clean and saving disk space. This feature does not allow the user to save any files on the terminal s hard disk by hiding the disk drive and making it inaccessible. When this feature is enabled, the user cannot see the computer s disk drives in the Windows My Computer folder.
