3 Introduction PAGES: used to select pages ZOOM Keys: used to zoom in/zoom out (On GPScapable units, press keys simultaneously to create Man Overboard waypoint) KEYPAD: controls cursor & selects items on menus MENU: Opens settings, context and page menus NOTICE This manual covers several units. Some features and screenshots may differ from your unit s capabilities or from what you see on your screen. Your unit, however, will function in a similar manner. Turn unit on/ off Getting Started Press and hold the Light/ Power key for three seconds. ENTER: confirms menu selections LIGHT/POWER: controls backlight level and turns unit on/off Adjusting the backlight Muting Audio Press the Light/Power key, select Brightness and press the keypad left/right. Select Mute Audio from the System menu and press Enter. 1

5 General Operation Overlay Data Allows you to display data on the screen. Overlay data can be accessed on the Chart, Sonar and DSI menus. Standby mode Lowers power consumption by putting the unit into a sleep mode. Press any key to resume normal operation. WARNING: Leaving the unit in Standby with the boat turned off will drain the battery. Advanced Mode Enables advanced features/settings. On some units, advanced mode is enabled by answering Yes to the advanced user question in the Setup Wizard. To repeat the Setup Wizard, restore defaults. Restoring Defaults Resets unit options and settings to defaults. 3
6 Sonar Operation Trackback You can review your sonar history by pressing the keypad to the left until the screen starts to move in reverse and the sonar history bar appears at the bottom of the screen. Sonar history bar DSI only Move the sonar history bar all the way to the right to resume normal sonar scrolling, or press Menu and select Exit cursor mode. Adjusting the display Colorline (Advanced mode - traditional) Separates strong sonar echoes from weak sonar echoes, making it easier to distinguish fish or structure from the bottom. On monochrome units, wide bands of gray indicate a hard sonar return, while softer returns are shown as dark, narrow lines. Sensitivity (Traditional Sonar) Controls the level of detail on the screen. Too Contrast (DSI sonar) much detail will clutter the screen. Conversely, Adjusts the brightness ratio between light and desired echoes may not be displayed if Sensitivity dark areas on the screen, making it easier to distinguish objects from the background. is set too low. 4
7 Sonar Operation Noise Rejection: counteracts sonar signal interference by reducing onscreen clutter. Features Range: selects the section of the water column shown on the display Frequency: selects transducer frequency Surface Clarity: reduces clutter near the water s surface (Advanced mode only). Color Changes the look of the display using palettes with varying degrees of color and brightness. Stop sonar: pauses the sonar screen Color sonar Monochrome DSI Color DSI 5 Fishing Mode (Traditional) Fishing modes are preset packages of sonar settings geared to specific fishing conditions.
8 Sonar Operation Fishing Mode Depth Settings General Use 1,000 50% Ping speed Shallow Water 60 75% Ping speed Fresh Water % Ping speed Deep Water 1,000 50% Ping speed Slow Trolling % Ping speed Fast Trolling 400 Lower chart speed Clear Water % Ping speed Ice Fishing 400 Sonar Options (Traditional) Reduces interference from other sonar units Sonar Settings Alarms The Shallow alarm sounds a tone when your vessel enters water shallower than the selected alarm threshold. Alarms menu The Fish Alarm sounds a tone when a fish symbol appears on the display (Non-DSI). Depth threshold NOTE: Press Enter to silence alarms. 6
9 Chart Operation Setting up your GPS Selecting a GPS Source Used to select the GPS antenna used by the unit. You can use the unit s internal antenna or an external antenna. Selecting Chart Data Selects map data that will be used on the Chart display (Lowrance or Navionics). GPS features Cursor The keypad moves the cursor around the display, allowing you to scroll the map and select map Cursor coordinates items. Press the keypad to make the cursor visible on the map. Press Menu and select Return to vessel to clear the cursor. Goto cursor Object selected with cursor Allows you to move the cursor to a desired location and then navigate to the cursor. 7
10 Chart Operation Cancel Navigation Accessing waypoints, routes and trails Orientation Allows you to select North Up or Course Over Ground (COG) as the map orientation. North up keeps north at the top of the display. Course over ground, rotates the map so your direction of travel is at the top of the screen. Waypoints Creating a waypoint Waypoints can be created from the waypoints menu or from the map. The example below shows how to create a waypoint at your current position. North indicator North With the cursor on the screen, you can create a waypoint at the cursor position in the same manner. 8
11 Chart Operation Editing a waypoint The Edit waypoint menu can be accessed by selecting a waypoint and pressing Enter. Edit waypoint menu Waypoint name, icon and latitude/longitude can be changed on the Edit waypoint menu. Navigating to a waypoint You can navigate to a waypoint from the waypoints menu (shown below) or from the chart screen. To navigate to a waypoint from the chart, center the cursor on the waypoint, press Enter, and then use the Goto cursor command. Using the waypoints menu to navigate to a waypoint allows you to use navigation features like arrival and off course alarms. 9
12 Chart Operation Routes Creating/editing a route Waypoints can be added to a route from the waypoints menu or by selecting them with the cursor on the chart. When editing a route, points can be added at the beginning, end, or between existing route points. Route creation/editing is covered in four parts: 1. New or edit route setup 2. Accessing the Leg name field 3. Adding routes points 4. Finalizing routes. 1. New or Edit route setup 2. Accessing the Leg name field You must select the Leg name field to access the menu used to add points to a route. Leg name field 3. Adding route points You can add points to a route from the waypoints list or from the map. New Edit route New route 10 Edit
13 Chart Operation When adding points from the map, use the cursor to select a point and press Enter. Repeat that step to add more points. 4. Finalizing routes The process for saving a new route and changes made to an existing route differ slightly. Both methods are shown in the following illustrations. Saving a new route When adding waypoints from the waypoints list, press Menu and select insert each time you want to add another waypoint to the route. 11

15 Chart Operation Trails Creating a trail When the unit is turned on, it will start recording trail points after a set amount of time, or after a set distance is traveled; depending on the trail update setting. Trail points are added to the end of the previous trail unless a new trail is created. 1. Selecting New on trail menu Editing trails/accessing Edit trail menu Edit trail menu Trail name and color can be changed on the Edit trail menu. You can also add/remove the trail display from the chart (Displayed) and turn on/off trail recording for the selected trail. 2. Saving a new trail To use this unit s navigation features to navigate a trail, you must save it as a route 13
16 Chart Operation Navigating a trail You can navigate a trail manually, by steering your onscreen position (arrow) along an existing trail on the chart display, or navigate it like a route. Navigating a trail like a route allows you to use features like off course and arrival alarms. Chart Settings Alarms You must save a trail as a route before you can navigate it as a route, as shown below. NOTE: Press Enter to silence alarms. Saving/Loading files Press Menu from the Waypoints, Routes or Trails screens to transfer data to/ from a microsd card. 14

Your product may thus include the WBS Database which contains worldwide background surface mapping data, the SmartMap Database which contains inland mapping data, or other Databases. 2. The Databases that your product may contain are licensed, not sold. We grant to you the nonexclusive, nonassignable right to use these Databases for supplemental navigation reference purposes, but only as long as you comply with the terms and conditions of this License Agreement. We reserve the right to terminate this license if you violate any aspect of this License Agreement. You are responsible for using official government charts and prudent navigation for safe travel. 3. The Databases housed in your product are protected by the copyright notices appearing on the product or its screen(s). You may NOT modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, rent, lease, or resell any Database, and you may NOT create derivative works based upon any Database or its contents. Any unauthorized reproduction, use, or transfer of a Database may be a crime and may subject you to damages and attorney fees. 4. This License Agreement will terminate immediately without prior notice from us if you fail to comply with or violate any of the provisions of this Agreement. Upon termination, you will promptly return all products containing one or more Databases to us. 5. Prices and programs are subject to change without notice. 6. This License Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma and comprises the complete and exclusive understanding between you and us concerning the above subject matter. Databases Limited Warranty We, our, or us refers to Navico, the manufacturer of this product. You or your refers to the first person who purchases the product as a consumer item for personal, family, or household use. The Databases Limited Warranty applies to the one or more databases that your product may contain. We refer to each of these as a Database or together as the Databases. Your product may thus include the WBS Database which contains worldwide background surface mapping data, the SmartMap Database which contains inland mapping data, or other Databases. We warrant to you that we have accurately compiled, processed, and reproduced the portions of the source material on which the Databases are based. However, we are under no obligation to provide updates to the Databases, and the data contained in the Databases may be incomplete when compared to the source material. WE MAKE NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF ANY KIND ABOUT THE ACCURACY OF THE SOURCE MATERIAL ITSELF, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. If there is a defect in any Database, your exclusive remedy shall be, at our option, either a refund of the price you paid for the product containing the defective Database or a replacement of such product. WE WILL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BE LIABLE TO ANYONE FOR ANY SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR OTHER INDIRECT DAMAGE OF ANY KIND. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. This warranty does NOT apply in the following circumstances: (1) when the product has been serviced or repaired by anyone other than us; (2) when the product has been connected, installed, combined, altered, adjusted, or handled in a manner other than according to the instructions furnished with the product; (3) when any serial number has been effaced, altered, or removed; or (4) when any defect, problem, loss, or damage has resulted from any accident, misuse, negligence, or carelessness, or from any failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance in accordance with the instructions of the owner s manual for the product. We reserve the right to make changes or improvements in our products from time to time without incurring the obligation to install such improvements or changes on equipment or items previously manufactured. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights which may vary from state to state. Your remedies under this warranty will be available so long as you can show in a reasonable manner that the defect occurred within one (1) year from the date of your original purchase, and we must receive your warranty claim no later than 30 days after such 1-year period expires. Your claim must be substantiated by a dated sales receipt or sales slip.
