4 IP Mux and Modulation Module 4 Chapter 1 Product Overview 1.1 Outline IP Mux and modulation module is the latest generation mux-modulating all-in-one device. The modular design of this device makes each of its daughter cards stand-alone when operating. Each daughter card can receive the UDP format TS through GE port, and support up to 256 different IP address or port number. It s like the all-in-one device combined with 4 multiplexers, (256 channels inputs) and 4 DVB-T modulators, which can output 4 carriers (40M~960M) through the two RF output interfaces. 1U chassis (ref ) supports up to 3 modules (12 channels mux-modulation). This IP Mux and modulating module has excellent integrated level, powerful performance and low cost, which is especially adequate for the new generation IP CATV system. 1.2 Inner Structure 1.3 Key Advantage 1) Hot-plugging Support card is directly connected with the power supply through the interface; even if being powered-on, any one of those three daughter cards can be hot plugged in and out; other cards can still work normally without any influence. 2) Independent Multiplexing Control Unit Different from the former multiplexing backcard principle, each card has its own independent multiplexing and control unit; Unlike the other manufacturer s similar products which will completely die when its backbone multiplexing board fails, the s 3 daughter cards are completely independent of each other. If anyone of those 3 cards is failed, the other two cards could work normally due to their own multiplexing control unit. Hence, the reliability of the equipment has been greatly improved.

5 5 3) Support the RF Output and IP Output AT THE SAME TIME can not only be used as one IP mux-modulating DVB-T module, but also be utilized to realize other purposes by its IP output function. The IP data output is the loop output after multiplexing. For example: An operator has one general DVB-T head-end and two sub-head-ends. At the Main head-end, operator can directly transmit the s COFDM RF output to the local HFC network, while at the subhead-end side; the IP input of the IP DVB-T head-end can directly extract the multiplexed and scrambled IP TS from the s IP output via a fiber link. In this case, cards can be utilized to provide a perfect solution for signal transmission so as to achieve high-efficient transmission and cost control. EN 4) NMS Port for Each Each card has separate NMS ports, thus, the situation that the equipment cannot be configured when the master card of single master plug-in equipment is disabled won t happen. 5) High Functional Integration The functions of multiplexing, modulating and IP output can be totally supported by just 1 card. 6) PCR Anti-Jitter Technology To solve the IP jitter during the IP network signal transmission, is especially provided with the unique IP anti-jitter buffer principle in order to suppress the IP jitter (IP jitter suppression ratio is up to 250ms), so as to ensure the stable reception and transmission of video/audio signal.

Normally it should include the following items: IP Mux-Modulation Module User s Manual Power Cord If any item is missing or mismatching with the list above, please contact local dealer. 3.2 Installation Preparation When users install device, please follow the below steps. The details of installation will be described at the rest part of this chapter. Users can also refer rear panel chart during the installation. The main steps of the installation include: Checking the possible device missing or damage during the transportation Preparing relevant environment for installation Installing IP Mux-Modulation Module Connecting signal cables Connecting communication port (if it is necessary) Device s Installation Flow Chart Illustrated as follows:

Fire alarm system and extinguisher Requiring device power, air-conditioning power and lighting power are independent to each other. Device power requires AC power 220V ±10% 50/60Hz or 110V ±10% 50/60Hz. Please carefully check before running. EN Grounding Requirement All function modules good grounding is the basis of reliability and stability of devices. Also, they are the most important guarantee of lightning arresting and interference rejection. Therefore, the system must follow this rule. Coaxial cables outer conductor and isolation layer should keep proper electric conducting with the metal housing of device. Grounding conductor must adopt copper conductor in order to reduce high frequency impedance, and the grounding wire must be as thick and short as possible. Users should make sure the 2 ends of grounding wire well electric conducted and be antirust. It is prohibited to use any other device as part of grounding electric circuit The area of the conduction between grounding wire and device s frame should be no less than 25mm Frame Grounding All the machine frames should be connected with protective copper strip. The grounding wire should be as short as possible and avoid circling. The area of the conduction between grounding wire and grounding strip should be no less than 25mm Device Grounding Connecting the device s grounding rod to frame s grounding pole with copper wire.

10 IP Mux and Modulation Module Wire s Connection Power cord connection The power socket is located on the right of rear panel, and the power switch is on the left of front panel. User can plug one end of the power cord to the socket and insert the other end to AC power. When the device solely connects to protective ground, it should adopt independent way, say, share the same ground with other devices. When the device adopts united way, the grounding resistance should be smaller than 1Ω. Caution!: Before connecting power cord to IP Mux-modulation module, user should set the power switch to OFF Signal and NMS Cable Connection Both of the IP signal cable and NMS cable are CAT5 cables. Chapter 4 NMS Operation This device does not support the LCD operation, and the modification can only be operated under SnmpNMS. The factory default IP address is Users can connect the device and SnmpNMS through this IP address. (The Reset IP button in the rear panel can reset the customized IP address into the factory default configuration.) It is strongly suggested to modify the SnmpNMS IP address of the IP Mux-modulation module, and we do not recommend any module to use the factory default IP address in consideration of IP conflict. Network Management System Profile Network management system is applied to digital TV equipment operation, control and management and parameters setting, etc. It centralizes digital TV equipment through network. 4.1 Installation The software doesn t need special installation. User can just open the folder SnmpNMS x.xy.z to find the icon and double click it to pop up the login interface.

11 Software Operation Login Interface A login interface will pop up firstly when the software is running and give user prompts to input user name and password (The default user name is admin and no password. User can add users and passwords as needed. Details please refer to in 4.4 other Settings.). The menu shows as follows: EN User can login the NMS by pressing OK key after inputting user name. Upon the inputs, the software will verify them with database record automatically and the main interface will appear Main Interface User can create a device node tree in the left column by adding, modifying and deleting the device node. This software provides a powerful node operation function, and the user can edit various parameters in the device tree for management and classification.

12 IP Mux and Modulation Module Adding Frequency Point The Add Freq Point dialog box popes up when the user clicks the Add Freq Point item in the Edit pull down menu on the menu row. The device will confirm the given frequency while user clicks OK. User can also click right mouse key to pop up the short-cut menu in device tree or in the left blank column, then the corresponding dialog box will pop up by choosing Add Main Freq Point. The device will confirm the given frequency while user clicks OK.

13 Adding Equipment under Given Frequency Point User should choose the frequency point in advance, and then the dialog box of Add Equipment will pop up when user clicks Add Equipment item in the Edit pull-down menu on the menu row or clicks right mouse key to pop up the short-cut menu in device tree or in the left blank column, then the Add Equipment dialog box will pops up after user choose Add Equipment. EN Edit Equipment Interface User should follow the steps as below: Inputting the device IP Address Inputting the device Port Number Inputting the Equipment Name Choosing the connected equipment type in drop down list of Equipment Type by clicking the clicking the? to auto search. or The device will confirm the equipment when user clicks OK and the light turns green if it links the equipment successfully. NOTE: The PC IP address and device IP address should be in the same network. For example: The Device IP is , sub mask is So the PC IP address should be X (1<X<255), sub mask is User can use ping command to confirm these two are in the same network or not.

14 IP Mux and Modulation Module Delete Equipment User can choose the equipment to be deleted in the left column, and then click the delete item in the pull down menu which appears by clicking the right mouse key Save Configuration After finishing all the parameters setting, user can click button on the toolbar to save the modifications to the device s flash, while user can also reload the saved parameters from device s flash and refresh the device s parameters setting according to the loaded values by clicking Alternatively, user can also click the button on the toolbar to popup the save file dialog box, which gives prompts to save all the device s parameters as binary files in the computer s hard disk. Similarly, user can choose to click the button on the toolbar to popup the read file dialog box, to read the stored binary file and set the device s parameters according to the loaded binary files.

15 15 EN Operation The interface is mainly composed of Input, Output and Parameter settings; users can set the related parameters in this interface. And the following operations are based on one module of in 1 IP Mux and DVB-T Modulation Module. Set: making the current parameters, which show in the SnmpNMS software, activate. Get: reading the current device s activating parameters and show them on SnmpNMS software Input Setting In this field, users can set and get the device input parameters. User can check the equipment information in this area.

16 IP Mux and Modulation Module MUX IP address/port/multicast Setting After clicking these buttons, a dialog will pop up. Firstly user should select the output channel where the input IP signal needs to be output, then user can add/ delete/modify the input IP address/port in this filed to the current selected output channel. In such way, each output channel can multiplex at maximum 32 IP streams (32x8=256). Also user can set whether to open the multicast. If not choosing, then the input is default as unicast Overflow indicator: The indicators will turn red when the inputting code rate overflows. Otherwise, it turns green.

To modify program information, user can select the target program in output part first and click this button to pop up a dialog box as below: Select the target item and input the new value in the box below, then click and to effect the modification. 18 IP Mux and Modulation Module Transparent Transport Pass User can decide to bypass the inputting PID as needed in this interface. In some occasions, there are some PIDs which won t belong to any program, such as EPG, NIT tables, and so on, but user just wants to pass them through the multiplexing module without changing anything. This is the main purpose of this function. The display will show as below when user clicks Add button.

19 19 Input PID and Output PID The Old (Input) PID is the PID number in the TS from given Port. The correspondent New (output) PID number could be same as input PID number while it could be different if a PID remapping is needed. Modify the data as needed and click OK to confirm. The PID then will be bypassed and listed in the table as below. EN User can also modify or delete the added PID through the corresponding buttons at right NIT Setting: NIT: Network Information Table. NIT table is a very important table for describing the network and TS. Users can set the parameters of the output NIT table NIT parameters : The parameter describes the output TS s network ID : The parameter describes the output TS s network name

20 IP Mux and Modulation Module Insertion private description : This checkbox will allow user to insert the private descriptor into the output TS. The private descriptor includes two parts. One is descriptor tag, and the other is descriptor information. : The Descriptor Tag is an 8-bit field which identifies each descriptor. : The Descriptor Data is the detailed information of the private description Replace NIT Table After checking the checkbox, the NIT editing menu is active. And also the device will insert the EIT table into the output TS. It means to replace the NIT table when users select it, and then users can edit the NIT table and output it. Users can add the cable transmission descriptor in this Add button, and it will pop up the following dialogue box, say, the added descriptor is apply for the DVB-C network. The interface will show as below after the NIT parameters being added: (the information rounded by red line is the added wire transmission description) the NIT. The Modify button will trigger a modify window and allow user to modify the selected items in The Delete button will remove the selected items in the NIT. The set Button will send the NIT to the chosen output Port.

21 Parameters User can set the output parameters in this interface, the display shows as below. EN Output Setting User can set the parameters of the 4 output COFDM carriers in this interface. (RF1 for CH01-CH02, RF2 for CH03-CH04) -16~0dBm 40~960Mhz Set frequency difference: CH02-CH01 40MHz; CH04-CH03 40MHz

NOTE: user should set different address for different modules To edit the PSI/SI table by entering this interface. 4.4 Other Settings Difference between Set and Remote Save In many cases during the configuration of parameters in NMS, users save the modified configuration by clicking Set, in which way the configuration can only be saved temporarily and will restore the last saved configuration if the device reboots. To save the configuration permanently, it is required to operate through Remote Save on the toolbar explained in This is the difference between Set and Remote Save IP Modification Users can click Operate and select Modify IP in the drop-down list, and a dialog box presents itself as shown

23 23 below. Users input the new SnmpNMS IP Address for the device and click OK button to confirm. EN Users can then note the indicator light turns red, which signifies the equipment has disconnected. Users then can refer to below prompts to edit the property by inputting the new IP to re-connect the equipment. Input the new IP Address in the box and click OK button, then the device will be connected again. After finishing all the parameters setting, user should click modifications to the device s flash. button on the toolbar to save the

24 IP Mux and Modulation Module User Add When logging in, user will note that the default user name is admin and no password. User can add users and passwords as needed. User clicking Setting in the menu bar and selecting User Setting in the pull-down list, the below dialog box will pop out as shown below. Select the Edit Information by marking the check box with, user can input the new username and new password as prompts below. It is required to click to add the new user and then click to save the new setting.

25 25 Chapter 5 Troubleshooting Televes ISO9001 quality assurance system has been approved by CQC organization. For guaranteeing the products quality, reliability and stability, all Televes products pass the testing and inspection before products are shipped out factory. The testing and inspection scheme already covers all the Optical, Electronic and Mechanical criteria which have been published by Televes. To prevent potential hazard, please strictly follow the operation conditions. EN Preventive Measures Installing the device at the place in which environment temperature is between 0 to 45 C Making sure good ventilation for the heat-sink on the rear panel and other heat-sink bores if necessary Checking the input AC within the power supply working range and the connection is correct before switching on device Checking the RF output level varies within tolerant range if it is necessary Checking all signal cables have been properly connected Frequently switching on/off device is prohibited; the interval between every switching on/off must be greater than 10 seconds. Conditions need to unplug the power cord Power cord or socket damaged. Any liquid flown into device. Any stuff causes circuit short Device in damp environment Device was suffered from physical damage Longtime idle. After switching on and restoring to factory setting, device still cannot work properly. Maintenance needed Common fault No inputting signals (input indicator off) User should firstly check the input cable connection and make sure the head-end input signal is normal or not; and check the input IP address and port number is correct or not in the NMS input interface. Input signal unlocking (input indicator flicker) This indicates that the input TS signal is locked, while the IP signal is unlocked. And users should also check the input bit-rate is correct or not in the NMS input interface. The input bit-rate must be the same as the total output bit-rate of IP source device. Inputting modulation code rate overflows( overflow indicator flicker) Users should check if the QAM modulation mode and symbol rate were set in normal range at the real situation. Over the alarming temperature Users should check if the operation environment and power supply is in the normal range.
