Prescribed use The HMS/FHZ telephone dialling unit is suitable for operation with the appropriate wireless components (for example, home radio central unit FHZ1000) and in the case of an alarm, consecutively dials up to 3 different telephone numbers. The alarm is sounded as a series of signal tones. Make sure that the product does not get damp or wet. No part of the product may be modified or adapted. Any use other than the one described above may damage the product and can also increase the risk of short-circuit, fire, electric shock etc. All company and product names contained herein are trademarks of their respective owners. All rights reserved. 2. Scope of delivery Wireless telephone dialling unit Telephone connection cable User manual 3. Technical specifications and features Power supply via 4 Baby (C) size batteries, for example, Conrad item no Operation also possible via an external power supply (+12V=/min. 100mA, inner contact must carry + ). Batteries are then necessary for reserve power in case of a power outage! 5 4. Explanation of icons The This icon with an exclamation mark in a triangle points to particular dangers associated with the handling, function or operation of the product. hand icon indicates special tips and operational notes. 5. Safety instructions The product s guarantee becomes invalid if the product is damaged as a result of failure to observe these operating instructions. We do not assume any liability for any resulting damages! Nor do we assume liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by improper use or failure to observe the safety instructions. In such cases the product s guarantee becomes invalid! Do not use this product in hospitals or medical institutions. Although the product emits only relatively weak radio signals, these may cause life-support systems to malfunction. This may also be the case in other areas. For safety and licensing (CE) reasons any unauthorised alterations to and/or modification of the product are not permitted. This product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children. Do not leave packaging material lying around. This may become a dangerous plaything in the hands of children. Handle the product with care; knocks, blows or even a fall from a low height can damage it. 5

6. Notes on batteries/rechargeable batteries Keep batteries/rechargeable batteries out of the reach of children. Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around as they could be swallowed by children or pets. In such a case, seek immediate medical care! Batteries/rechargeable batteries must never be short-circuited, taken apart or thrown into a fire. They might explode! Leaking or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries may cause acid burns, if they come into contact with skin. Therefore, please make sure you use suitable protective gloves. Conventional batteries must not be recharged. There is the risk of fire and explosion! Make sure that the polarity (plus/+ and minus/-) is correct when inserting the batteries. If the device is not used for a longer period of time (for example, when stored), remove the inserted batteries to prevent the batteries from leaking and causing damage. Always replace the whole set of batteries. Do not mix full batteries with half-full ones. Always use batteries of the same type and manufacturer. Operation using rechargeable batteries instead of normal batteries is possible. However, operation time and safety will be reduced due to lower voltage (batteries = 1.5V, rechargeable batteries = 1.2V) and lower capacity. We therefore recommend that you use high-quality alkaline batteries, for example, Conrad item no

7. Description of functions In the case of an alarm, the wireless telephone dialling unit dials a maximum of three different programmed numbers, (each with a maximum of 22 digits), in order to notify, for example, your own mobile phone, friends, neighbours, etc. and sounds an alarm as a series of signal tones. To start with, the first telephone number is dialled. If the alarm can be transmitted to this number (for example, someone answers), then it is rated as acknowledged. If, however, nobody answers the first call, then the alarm call is considered unsuccessful and the wireless telephone dialling unit dials the second stored telephone number. If the transmission of the alarm is also not possible via this second telephone number, the alarm dialler dials the third telephone number. If this is unsuccessful, the first telephone number will be redialled, etc. Power supply: The alarm dialler can be powered either exclusively via batteries or, in addition to the batteries, using a power supply. The advantage of battery operation is that it allows totally self-sufficient system operation. This is advantageous if, for example, no socket is available beside the telephone connection. During operation with an additional power supply (not supplied; it must have an output voltage of +12V= and be able to supply a minimum of 100mA; the inner contact must carry + ) the batteries are only used as an emergency power supply. Therefore, 4 Baby (C) size batteries should always be inserted. 7

8. Inserting/replacing batteries Please observe that after the first battery insertion, the wireless telephone dialling unit must be registered with the appropriate central unit. Open the casing. Carefully open the catches on the left side of the casing by pushing inwards with a ball-point pen or suitable screwdriver, until the half shells come apart. Insert four Baby (C) size batteries with correct polarity into the battery compartment. You will find clear figures in the battery compartment. Close the battery compartment. Along with the regular status signal, the battery level is also transmitted to the central unit. If the batteries in the wireless telephone dialling unit have been used up, this is signalled to the central unit as an interference. In this case, the batteries of the wireless telephone dialling unit should be replaced as quickly as possible. When doing this, observe the corresponding instructions in the central unit s manual, so that any programmed data is kept for a new registration. Leave a gap of at least 2 minutes between removing the dead batteries and inserting the new ones. Make sure you always replace the whole set of batteries. 8

9. Connection, mounting and installation a) General information Usually the wireless telephone dialling unit is operated in the immediate vicinity of a telephone connection. The device can, however, also be connected to an extension station, for example, a telephone system. However, it must be observed that during a power outage the alarm might not be able to be passed on through the telephone system! The alarm dialler can be either freestanding or mounted on the wall. The device should not be mounted or installed in the immediate vicinity of large metal objects as this reduces the wireless range. When using an external power supply, a socket must be in reach (power supply is not included). b) Connection Open the casing. Carefully open the catches on the left side of the casing by pushing inwards with a ball-point pen or suitable screwdriver, until the casing s half shells come apart. Do not use force as this can damage the catches or the casing. Guide the plug of the telephone connector cable through the rectangular opening in the back. The plug (A) is for connecting a suitable power supply. Push the telephone plug into the socket (B), until it clicks. Connect to the telephone network. B A 9

c) Power supply and battery operation If you use an external power supply (+12V=, min. 100mA, inner contact must carry + ), then also guide the plug of the power supply through the rectangular opening in the back into the casing interior. Push the plug into the BU1 socket (see picture in section 9. b). Insert the 4 Baby (C) size batteries with the correct polarity into the battery compartment. You will find corresponding figures in the battery compartment. Plug the power supply into a socket if you want to use a power supply in addition to battery operation (to save battery power). The casing should be kept open at first, as it is only possible to register with the appropriate central unit in this state (buttons for sabotage contact not pressed). Now register the wireless telephone dialling unit with the appropriate central unit following the description in the manual. Shut the casing only after doing this. d) Wall-mounting For wall-mounting use three screws (and dowels if necessary). First fix two screws with a distance of 80mm between each other at the desired installation location. Drill a 6mm diameter hole, insert a dowel and turn in the screw. There must be a distance of 3mm between the wall and the lower side of the screw head. The wireless telephone dialling unit is hung on the screws from both installation slots on the back. The third screw is screwed in from inside. The corresponding drill hole is in the lower casing in the middle of the battery compartment. Open the casing (carefully open the catches on the left side of the casing by pushing inwards with a ball-point pen or suitable screwdriver, until the casing s half shells come apart) and mark the drill hole s position on the wall. Take the wireless telephone dialling unit away from the wall. Now drill a 6mm diameter hole at the marked position and insert a dowel. Guide the telephone connector cable from behind and through the rectangular opening in the back and then connect it to the telephone socket. 10

Connect to the telephone network. If using an external power supply, also guide the power supply plug through the rectangular opening in the back and into the casing interior. Push the plug into the electrical socket BU1 (see figure on page 8). Now re-hang the wireless telephone dialling unit from the two screws in the wall. The cables should be guided away towards the ground. Turn in the third screw. Insert the 4 Baby (C) size batteries with the correct polarity into the battery compartment. You will find corresponding figures in the battery compartment. Plug the power supply into a socket. The casing should be kept open at first, as it is only possible to register with the appropriate central unit in this state (buttons for sabotage contact not pressed). Now register the wireless telephone dialling unit with the appropriate central unit following the description in the manual. Shut the casing only after doing this. 10. Handling Protect the product against humidity, cold, heat, dust, and direct sunlight. Operation is only permitted in dry, indoor areas. Never dismantle this product (apart from mounting, installation and battery replacement). Only have the device repaired by a skilled technician otherwise the device s licence will become invalid. Even a fall from a low height can damage the product. 11

11. Maintenance and cleaning The product requires no servicing except for battery replacement. Clean the product with a soft, clean, dry and lint-free cloth. To remove heavier dirt, use a cloth which is slightly moistened with lukewarm water. Do not use solvent-based cleaning agents, as these may damage the surface of the plastic casing and its inscription. 12. Disposal a) General information When the product is no longer usable, dispose of it in accordance with the applicable statutory regulations. b) Batteries and rechargeable batteries As the consumer, you are legally obliged to return all your used batteries and rechargeable batteries. Do not dispose of your used batteries via the household rubbish! Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing harmful substances are marked with the following icons, which alert you to the fact that disposal via the household rubbish is prohibited. The identifiers for the respective heavy metals are: Cd=cadmium, Hg=mercury, Pb=lead (identifier is on the battery/rechargeable battery, for example, under the rubbish bin icons on the left). You can return your used batteries/rechargeable batteries free of charge to any authorised disposal station in your area, in our stores or in any other store where batteries/rechargeable batteries are sold! By doing so you comply with your legal obligations and also make a contribution to environmental protection. 12

13. Tips and notes Ranges and interference The product works in the 868MHz range which is also used by other radio services. Therefore devices that operate on the same or neighbouring frequencies may restrict both its operation and its range. The specified range of up to 100m is the free-field range, which means the range with visual contact between the transmitter and receiver. In practice, however, walls, ceilings, etc. between the transmitter and the receiver may affect and reduce the range. Other causes of reduced ranges: All types of high-frequency interference Any buildings or vegetation Conductive metal parts that are located near the devices or within or near their transmission path, for example, radiators, metallised insulation glass windows, reinforced concrete ceilings, etc. Influence on the radiation pattern of antennas due to the distance from the transmitter or receiver to conductive surfaces or objects (also to human bodies or the ground) Broadband interference in urban areas that reduces the signal-to-noise ratio; the signal is no longer recognised due to this noise Interference radiation resulting from insufficiently shielded electronic devices, for example, operating computers or similar 14. Declaration of conformity (DOC) We, Conrad Electronic, Klaus-Conrad-Straße 1, D Hirschau (Germany), hereby declare that this product complies with the fundamental requirements and other relevant regulations of directive 1999/5/EG.
