3 PecStar Architecture The PecStar IEMS Energy Management System consists of the following modules: System Configuration SCADA Server Database Server Client Applications All these modules can be installed on a single workstation or distributedly installed on different workstations over a LAN or the Internet. System Configuration Module The System Configuration module is used for the configuration of the entire PecStar monitoring network such as Stations, Sites, Device Nodes, Data Points, Control Points, Reporting Points, Interlocking Protection, System Security and Alarm Management. SCADA Server Module The SCADA Server module is in charge of real-time communications with IEDs installed throughout the PecStar monitoring network, remote control, and retrieving historical recording from IEDs. Database Server Module The Database Server module is used for storing system configuration information, historical data, events and responding to queries from all client applications. Client Application Modules The Client Application modules provide comprehensive monitoring, control, analysis and management of the entire electrical system. These modules include PecView, PecDraw, PecReport, PecEvent and PecChart.

4 Redundant Networking with Hot Standby PecStar s fully distributed, hierarchical and modular architecture supports systems of different sizes and configurations, including Single Workstation, Multi-Node Client-Server as well as the highly complex system with Redundant Networking and Hot Standby for large-scale deployment.
