1 Grade Level Vocabulary K-6 In Edmonds School District, we believe students need to be taught how to read and speak the language of mathematics. While mathematical language can be confusing for students, terms, phrases, and symbols are important for students to know so they can communicate mathematical understanding. Teachers need to explicitly teach mathematics vocabulary using a variety of strategies. The following grade level vocabulary lists have been developed by Edmonds teachers and reflect those listed in the WASL Item Specifications. Teachers are responsible for embedding the vocabulary into their routine mathematics instruction to ensure students learn the language of math.
