3 Geometry Review Topics included: a) Lines and Angles b) Triangles c)pythagorean Theorem & Pythagorean Triplets d) Quadrilaterals e) Circles f) Coordinate Geometry * Be sure to not assume that diagrams are drawn to scale on the test*
4 Quick Review Lines and Angles - Line segments have an exact measurable length and will most likely ask you to find the length of part of a line. - The midpoint of a line segment splits the line into two equal parts. - A straight line equals 180 degrees. - Two adjacent angles that form a straight line are supplementary angles - A right angle equals 90 degrees. -Two adjacent angles that form a right angle are complementary angles - Angles around a point add up to 360 degrees - Vertical angles are angles that are formed when lines intersect each other and the angles across from each other are equal to each other Try i, ii, iii and iv on pages Review transversals on page 166
5 Quick Review - Triangles - The sum of the angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees. - An exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the remote interior angles 42 0 x = = x 0 - Interior Angle Theorem - The total number of degrees inside a figure = 180(n-2) where n = # of sides - Perimeter is the sum of the sides of a figure - Area of a triangle = 1/2(base)(height) Try v, vi, vii, and viii on pages
6 Quick Review - Triangles - Similar triangles have corresponding angles that are equal and corresponding sides that are equal. - Special Triangles - Isosceles Triangle - has two equal sides - Equilateral Triangle - all sides and angles are equal - Right Triangle degree angle - Pythagorean Theorem - a 2 + b 2 = c 2 - The sum of the legs squared equals the hypotenuse squared - Pythagorean Triples - Some common one are and the multiples of these triples Try ix, x, xi and xii on pages 170 and 171
7 Quick Review - Triangles - Single Angle Ratios - You can find missing parts based on the following figure degree Triangle - The shorter leg is half of the hypotenuse - The longer leg is the shorter leg * radial degree Triangle - The two legs are the same measure if the two angles are the same - The hypotenuse then would be that leg length*radical 2
8 Quick Review - Quadrilaterals - Four interior angles in a quadrilateral have a sum of 360 degrees - Important formulas - Area of a rectangle = length*width - Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 ( length + width ) - Area of a square = (side) 2 - Perimeter of a square = 4s - Area of a parallelogram = ( base * height ) - Area of a trapezoid = 1/2 ( base 1 + base 2 ) ( height) - If two polygons are similar, their corresponding angles and side lengths are proportional Try exercises xiii, xiv and xv on pages 173 & 174
9 Quick Review - Circles - A radius is the distance from the center of a circle to any point on the circle - A chord is any line segment connecting two points on a circle - A diameter is a chord that passes through the center of the circle and touches both sides of the circle - The diameter is twice the length of the radius - Circumference = pi * diameter OR 2 * pi * radius - Area = pi * radius squared Try exercise xvi, xvii, xviii and xix on page 175
10 Quick Review - Coordinate Geometry Slope formula When the points are (x 1, y 1 ) and (x 2, y 2 ) Try exercise xx, xxi and xxii on page 178
11 Turn to the practice set on pages These questions will focus on the skills we just reviewed. You will have 30 minutes to work on as many as you can. These problems tend to take a little longer, but try not to take too much time on any one problem. Remember - speed and fluency are really important. In your free time, you should complete the remaining questions for practice and use the answers and explanations to help with questions you do not understand.
12 Last minute questions? Remember to relax while taking the exam. Plan out your time accordingly. Do not spend too much time on one problem. If you see a question is taking you a long time to figure out, skip it and come back to it later.
