1 Lesson Plans for Christy Dempsey, Tippit Middle School Week of Monday, February 29, 2016 Monday, February 29, 2016

2 Learning Target (I can/i will...): I will write and solve equations using geometry concepts, including angle relationships and the sum of angles in a triangle. I will describe how to classify a triangle by its sides and by its angles. Evidence of Success: Students will demonstrate 80% mastery of classifying angles and determining the missing angle measurement in a triangle using a Plickers quiz. Lesson intro: classifying angles by measure and classifying triangles by angles and by sides Students will be given paper triangles of different sizes. We will cut all of the angles off of the triangle and show that all triangles have angles adding up to 180 degrees. Guided practice classifying triangles by sides and by angles, then determining the missing angle measurement in a triangle. Learning Target (I can/i will...): I will find the area of a circle. I will explain how to use the formula for area of a circle. Evidence of Success: Students will complete an exit ticket problem finding area of a circle. Review parts of a circle: radius, diameter,, center Review the value of pi and how to use exponents. Guided practice plugging the appropriate values into the formula for area of a circle. I do, we do, you do for semicircles and quarter-circles page 623 #1-11 Learning Target (I can/i will...): I will find the area of various figures using formulas from the formula chart. I will describe how to find the area of a figure by determining the shape and using the correct formula. Evidence of Success: Students will find the areas of various shapes using the correct formula from their formula chart. Review names of various shapes and how to find the area formulas on a formula chart. Guided practice plugging the appropriate concepts: values into the formula for various shapes. Gallery walk finding area of shapes around the room. Students will be required to write the name of the shape and formula before solving for the area. Gallery walk finding area of shapes around the room. Learning Target (I can/i will...): I will write and solve equations using geometry concepts, including angle relationships. I will work cooperatively with a group using the academic vocabulary in my conversations: Complementary, Supplementary, Acute, Obtuse, Right, Straight, Radius, Diameter, Circumference, Area Evidence of Success: Students will show 80% mastery on end of class Plickers quiz. Students will complete a review scavenger hunt over the following classify angles (by measure and vertical or adjacent) sum of angles in triangles complimentary and supplementary angles area of circles area of triangles, parallelograms, rectangles, trapezoids solving equations in geometry Plickers quiz to assess mastery Mathematics, Grade 7 Mathematics, Grade 7 Mathematics, Grade 7 Mathematics, Grade 7 Mathematics, Grade 7 Learning Target (I can/i will...): I will demonstrate my knowledge of triangles, angle sums, complementary and supplementary angles, vertical and adjacent angles, and classifying angles by measure. I will write my explanation of angles and triangles in complete sentences. Evidence of Success: Students will write one full page on the writing prompt using the vocabulary words: complementary, supplementary, adjacent, vertical, acute, obtuse, right, straight, pi, radius, diameter,, formula, area, isosceles, scalene, and equilateral TELPAS Writing Sample collection Writing prompts: (students may choose which topics to write about) Explain the difference between acute, obtuse, right, and straight angles. How do you classify triangles by the length of their sides? How do you classify triangles by the measure of their angles? What are complementary and supplementary angles? What are adjacent and vertical angles? What is pi and how do we use it? How do you find the area and of a circle? What is the radius? What is the diameter? What is the of a circle?

3 Plickers quiz (Questions from page 613 #1-12) Mid-Chapter Plickers quiz Word bank words: complementary, supplementary, adjacent, vertical, acute, obtuse, right, straight, pi, radius, diameter,, formula, area, isosceles, scalene, and equilateral Formative/Summative Assessment:Teacher assessment of student understanding through writing prompt

4 Learning Target (I can/i will...):i will make connections to the formulas for prisms, cones, cylinders, and spheres by determining the surface area and volume of each of them. I will write all my formulas, and each step on every question on the review for Chapter 7. Essential Question: Why are formulas important in math and science? Learning Target (I can/i will...):i will make connections to the formulas for prisms, cones, cylinders, and spheres by determining the surface area and volume of each of them.
