3 Dear user Welcome to 3ds Max Design and 3ds Max. This manual gives you an overview of 3ds Max features, the parts which are stored/hidden in the software dialog boxes. Starting with 2016 the two software 3ds Max Design and 3ds Max joined to one single software called 3ds Max We are happy to work with 3ds Max Design/3ds Max because any 3D object easily can be created. We are specialists in FEM structural engineering, but we strongly believe in the importance of the geometry and the landscape models. The main geometry model is originally created in Revit and/or AutoCAD Architecture/AutoCAD, and imported in 3ds Max (bridge or building). The terrain model from Civil 3D is also imported in 3ds Max. When all above mentioned models are imported in 3ds Max, we can further on use the default Civil View in 3ds Max to add road equipments, vehicles, trees, people and so on. Doing that we create the landscape model surrounding the models. In bridge engineering it helps us to control the free height, alignments, special terrain conditions and other facts which are invisible in a single software. It helps us to confirm correctness of geometry of FEM model. In densely built-up buildings, lighting and shadow visualization from 3ds Max helps us to determine the minimum distance between the buildings and get a better overview of the surroundings. Furthermore it helps us to reposition doors and windows for interior architect in details. With visible results in 3ds Max (as draft) we can modify geometry in Revit (or AutoCAD Architecture/AutoCAD) for the final project. In addition, 3ds Max can render and animate in resolution higher than 4K. It can be used for large scenes or poster presentations for competitions, seminars, conferences etc. This manual covers the techniques applied to our renderings and animations as shown on ICDAS website. The manual covers guidance and step-by-step instructions with over 600 figures for using 3ds Max. Furthermore it contains links to Youtube Autodesk 3ds Max Learning Channel and other relevant links which are helpful for both beginners and experienced users. A link to selected online shop for purchasing professional models of people, furniture etc., which may add graphical values to your project presentation, can also be found in this manual.
