Constitutive Virtual Laboratory or assistance in parameter determination in ZSoil v2016 Rafal OBRZUD ZSoil

How to identify model parameters with the aid of Automatic Parameter Selection? 2

1. Select Soil Behavior Type and material feature 2. Press Set material properties 3

3. Define material by selecting material features 4. Insert phi = 32 deg (this value will be fixed during automatic parameter selection) 4

5

Import from ASCII files 6

5. Select the constitutive model (NB. the model can be changed after automatic parameter selection since the algorithm considers the material as a soil sample and identifies all determinable parameters for a given soil type) 7

What can you expect in v2016? 4 constitutive models for soils Hardening Soil small strain Modified Cam Clay Mohr- Coulomb Cap 8

9

Example of parameter identification from laboratory test: The algorithm extracts all possible knowledge regardless of the currently selected constitutive model 10

6. Open the automatic parameter determination dialog by clicking on Automatic selection button 11

7. Check material definition in terms of the keyword description 8. Check user-specified, i.e. known parameter values (in blue) 9. Run the identification algorithm by pressing Run automatic selection 12

10. Check automatically selected parameters 11. Although the parameters value was user-specified and fixed, the algorithm also computed the ranges for the specified material type 12. The correlations which have been used during parameter determination can be viewd by pressing View applied correlations 13

13. Correlations for different parameters can be browsed using Parameter filter combobox 14. Correlation filter is locked on Recommended only as the automatic selection uses only recommended correlations 15. By clicking on a given correlation the details for the currently selected correlations are displayed Filters Filtered view Graphical comparison Current correlation Tabular data Help Correlation output 14

What can you expect in v2016? New interface for Interactive Parameter Selection Current correlation Filters Tabular data Filtered view Input variable Help Graphical comparison 15

16. The checkbox allows automatic assigning identified parameters to the final user s selection in the main dialog window 17. Close dialog and observe the main dialog (green column) 16

What can you expect in v2016? new correlations including estimation for parameters belonging to flow group: saturation constant (van Genuchten WRC) permeability coefficients additional classification within poorly-graded sands (coarse, medium, fine) for improved estimation of hydraulic conductivity, friction angle, etc. cohesion 17

Data input Setting s v0 for in situ tests Transformation of estimated stiffness moduli to the reference ones E DMT ( s ref ) E DMT ( s ' ) v0 m a s 3 ref a s s 3 K ' ' min( s v0; s v0 0)

18. Change constitutive model to Hardening- Soil and observe the displayed, automatically selected parameters 19. Test automatically selected parameters using Parameter Verification 19

20. Import identified parameters from user s selection 21. Simulate the selected triaxial drained compression test 22. Control the results, view log or open the results in Zsoil s PostPro 20

To be continued 21
