1 DC2 File Format The DesignCAD DC2 drawing file is an ASCII file, with the data present in character format. Each "record" in the file is actually a line in a text file. There are four types of records, or lines, in the file: 1. Header line 2. Entity line 3. Point line 4. String line The Header line tells, among other things, how many entity lines are to follow. The entity line tells what type of drawing entity and how many points and strings are to follow. The Point and String lines contain point coordinates and strings, respectively. The Header Line The Header Line contains five numbers: 1. The minimum X coordinate in the file. 2. The minimum Y coordinate in the file. 3. The horizontal length of the drawing. 4. The vertical height of the drawing. 5. This number is no longer used. A zero remains here for compatibility. The coordinates are in arbitrary units. The Drawing Units Size (entity type 40) can be used to determine the "real world" coordinates or the size of one Drawing Unit.
2 The Entity Line The entity line contains six or eight numbers: 1. The type of entity: 0 Handles 1 = Line 2 =Oval 3 = Text 4 = Curve 5 = Arc 11 = Bezier Curve 15 = Attribute 16 = Circle, Circular Arc 17 = Hatch 22 = Text Arc 23 = Layer Names 24 = Arrow 25 = Symbol 31 = Plane 32 = Grid 33 = Gridline 70 = Point 74 = Dimension Angle 75 = Dimension 76 = Dimension D/R 77 = Dimension Arc 78 = Dimension Radius Progress 79 = Dimension Progress 80 = Dimension Chamfer 81 = Dimension Coordinate 2. The number of points to follow. (0-200) (or the layer number (0-255), if entity = 21) 3. The line pattern scale. (1=normal) (or the hatch pattern scale) 4. The line width. 5. The line type (0-8) 6. The color (1-255). 7. Reserved (Optional to Dimension Entities) 8. Dimension Format (Optional to Dimension Entities). Group ID (Optional to Entity Grouping). 9. The number of points to follow. (0-200) (or the layer number (0-255), if entity = 21)
3 10. The line pattern scale. (1=normal) (or the hatch pattern scale) 11. The line width. 12. The line type (0-8) 13. The color (1-255). 14. Reserved (Optional to Dimension Entities) 15. Dimension Format (Optional to Dimension Entities). 16. Group ID (Optional to Entity Grouping). Following the entity line are the point lines and the string lines. There is one point per line, and one string per line. Strings are found on Text, Text Arc, Attribute, Hatch, Symbol, and Dimension entities. If the entity type is 40 or 41, then the number of points represents the number of lines that follow on that entity. Each line may have more than one value, and the values do not represent points. The Point Line The point lines follow the entity line. Each line contains two numbers: the X and Y coordinates of the point on the screen. These values will change when the drawing is retrieved according to the size, location, and angle of the Retrieve command. There can be no more than 200 points per entity. A line or curve entity with more than 200 points may be used by splitting it into two or more entities. The point line can contain an X, Y, and Z coordinate, but the Z coordinate is ignored in DesignCAD 2-D. The String Line The string line contains a string of text. It follows the point lines. The string line is used only with the Text, Text Arc, Attribute, Hatch, Symbol, and Dimension entities. Be sure that the string is terminated with a carriage return character. Trailing blanks will be used in determining the string length and may cause undesirable results. The maximum string length is 80 characters.
4 System Parameters Following the Entity Type 41 is the system parameters. These consist of: Line 1 1. Drawing Unit size 2. Large cursor step size 3. Small cursor step size Line 2 1. Character Font 2. Display grid type 3. Display grid enable 4. Precision 5. Snap grid enable 6. Dimension text format 7. Dynamic dimension enable 8. Tolerance enable 9. Dimension arrowhead type 10. Dimension text location 11. Dimension Precision 12. Fill wide lines 13. Angular dimension type 14. Angular dimension precision 15. Point mark Line 3 1. Display grid size 2. Default text size 3. Default text angle 4. Drawing Units per inch on output 5. Snap grid size 6. Horizontal scale Point Definitions Entity type 0 - Drawing Handle: 1. Handle Point 1 2. Handle Point 2 (optional) Entity type 1 - Line: 1-200: Points through which lines are drawn.
