Il tutto in varie forme e colori ed ovviamente in sughero, che sapientemente lavorato da artigiani locali diventa una creazione unica ed irripetibile per le sue peculiarità (sfumature, trama e struttura). 4 SUGHERO (CORK) Il sughero è un materiale molto resistente e di elevata durevolezza, con una notevole capacità di conservare o mantenere le sue proprietà iniziali. Si può considerare come un materiale inalterabile e dalla lunghissima durata. La coltivazione della quercia da sughero è alla base di una delle più grandi ricchezze forestali della regione mediterranea, ed è ancora più prezioso il fatto che la quercia vegeti in condizioni in cui solo poche specie di scarso valore forestale riescono ad adattarsi. I suoi punti di forza sono: resistenza, impermeabilità ed eccellenti proprietà di isolamento termico. L estrazione del sughero si esegue tra maggio ed agosto (regolamentato dalla legge), in quanto in questa stagione sono molto più semplici le operazioni di distacco della corteccia dal tronco. Il tutto viene eseguito con una speciale accetta mediante delle incisioni sia in senso orizzontale che verticale del tronco. All interno di queste incisioni viene inserita una leva la quale innesca un lento distacco del sughero dal tronco.
