3 IS09006A Vector Series NAPI80 Site Interface PWB Installation Procedure INFORMATION SHEET 1 INTRODUCTION This document describes how to install the NAPI80 Site Interface PWB in a Vector series 1.1 Reason for Modification The site interface PWB is an interface between a Vector series transmitter and parallel monitor and control points provided to the user. This interface allows the user to remotely monitor and control parts of the transmitter using their own equipment or a Nautel ECMP (extended control/monitor panel). 1.2 Equipment Affected This procedure applies to Vector-LP series NDB/DGPS transmitters (VR125, VR250, VRD200 and VRD375) and Vector HP NDB transmitters (VR500, VR1000 and VR2000). 1.3 Responsibility for Implementation of Procedure This procedure should be carried out by qualified station maintenance personnel who are familiar with the Vector series 1.4 Scheduling This procedure may be implemented at the convenience of station maintenance personnel. 1.5 Manpower Requirements It is estimated that implementing this modification will require 20 minutes to complete for Vector-LP transmitters and one hour to complete for Vector-HP transmitters. 1.6 Special Tools/Test Equipment Standard hand tools (screwdriver, nutdriver, etc.) are required. 2 PRELIMINARY CHECKS Ensure the supplied installation kit (Nautel Part # ) includes an NAPI80 Site Interface PWB (with 20-pin ribbon cable assembly), and associated securing hardware. See Table 1 for a complete parts list. To install the site interface PWB in a Vector-LP transmitter (see paragraph 3.2) you will need access to the rear of the transmitter s front door. Parts from the site interface installation kit (Nautel Part # , see Table 1) are referenced in the following procedure. 4 For Vector-LP transmitters, see Figure MD-1A in Section 10 in the Vector-LP manual as an aid in locating the position of the site interface PWB (A4). For Vector-HP transmitters, see Figure MD-4 in Section 10 in the Vector-HP manual as an aid in locating the site interface PWB (remote control/monitor) (A2A4). 3.1 Installing NAPI80 in Vector-HP transmitter (a) Press RF Off on the transmitter s front panel. Switch off the ac power to the (b) If the optional battery is used, switch off the dc power source to (c) Ensure the ac and dc power sources are locked out so that they cannot be turned on during this procedure. (d) Gain entry to the rear of the transmitter cabinet. Ensure all cables are clearly labeled then remove all connections to the rear of the exciter (See Figure MD-4 of the Vector-HP manual). (e) Remove the four front panel screws securing the exciter to the transmitter cabinet (see Figure 1). Retain hardware. Securing screws Press In tab Figure 2: Slide tabs (g) Carefully place the exciter on a suitable work area. (h) Temporarily remove top cover from exciter. Retain hardware. (i) Permanently remove the cover plate from the rear of the exciter (A2) secured by four screws (see Figure 3). Figure 3: Cover plate Remove cover plate (j) Install hardware to mount the site interface PWB as follows. Insert eight M3 screws (HMSP12) through the holes in the rear of the exciter so that the screw heads are on the inside of the assembly (see Figure MD-4 for location). From the rear of the exciter/control assembly, install eight M3 tooth washers (HMW10) over the screws and then eight M3 pillars (HMP05) on the ends of the (HMSP12) screws. The screws will protrude through the other side of the pillars. Figure 1: Exciter front panel screws (f) Pull the exciter away from the cabinet and unclip the exciter slides by pressing in on the black tabs in the center of the slide (see Figure 2). Page 2 Issue 0.2 Install the NAPI80 over the extruding screws and secure in place using eight M3 plain washers (HMW02), eight M3 split washers (HMW32) and eight M3 nuts (HMN02). 5 (k) Connect the 20-pin ribbon cable provided with site interface PWB between J1 of the site interface PWB (A2A4 in the Vector-HP) and J10 of the remote interface PWB (A2A3 in the Vector-HP). Note the orientation of the connectors. The red wire on the ribbon cable should be connected to pin 1 (lefthand side) of J1 on the site interface PWB and J10 on the remote interface PWB. (l) Replace top cover removed in step (h). (m) Place exciter back rack slides and push back into rack. (n) Replace the four front panel screws removed in step (e). (o) Replace all connection removed from the rear of the exciter in step (d). 3.2 Installing NAPI80 in Vector-LP transmitter (a) Press RF Off on the transmitter s front panel. (d) Open the front door of the (e) Using eight M3 screws (HMSP09F) install the site interface PWB on the pillars located on the rear of the front door. (f) Connect the 20-pin ribbon cable, provided with site interface PWB, between J1 of the site interface PWB (A4 in the Vector-LP) and J10 of the remote interface PWB (A3 in the Vector-LP). Note the orientation of the connectors. The red wire on the ribbon cable should be connected to pin 1 (lefthand side) of J1 on the site interface PWB and J10 on the remote interface PWB. (g) Close the front door of the 4 TRANSMITTER SETTINGS Once the site interface PWB has been installed in the transmitter, configure the transmitter to recognize it as follows: (a) Disable all lockouts and enable the transmitter s ac power and dc power (if necessary). (b) On the front panel GUI s Select Peripherals menu, select the Site Control Board as installed. See paragraph of the Vector-LP manual or paragraph of the Vector-HP manual. 5 CONFIGURATION OF CONTROL/ MONITOR POINTS Configure the control and monitor points as detailed in paragraph of the Vector-LP manual or paragraph of the Vector-HP manual.
