1 Nightingmail - Student Account The College has created a Nightingmail account for all faculty, students and staff. Your Nightingmail account is the only means of receiving College and CARMELink communication. Your CARMELink courses send directly to your Nightingmail account. To keep up-to-date, it is suggested that you check your Nightingmail account on a daily basis. This tutorial will acquaint you with the Nightingmail College system and will provide directions for accessing the system, changing your password, forwarding Nightingmail to another system, sending , creating Labels/Folders to store your CARMELink course mail and making group lists. Entering Nightingmail via the College Website You can access your student via the MCCN website at: by clicking on "Nightingmail". Nightingmail - Student Account - 1
2 Entering Nightingmail via the web browser You can also access Nightingmail by opening your web browser and entering: in the address bar then click the Go-TO button or "Enter" key Logging In #1 - Username is the first initial and last name (unless notified otherwise) Example: jsmith #2 - Password: the initial password is pass4mccn You will need to change your password the first time that you enter Nightingmail. 3 Changing Your Password You will be prompted to change your password the first time you enter your Nightingmail account. You may want to change you password to something different in the future. #1 - Go to Settings. #2 - Click Accounts #3 - Click Google Account Settings and select Change Password. Password Change Screen On the Password Change screen, #1 - Input your current password. Steps #2 & #3 - Choose a new password and Re-enter new password #4 - Make special note of the Password strength indicator. You want a password that is Strong to protect you account from hackers and others. Nightingmail - Student Account - 3
4 New Messages When Nightingmail has fully loaded, you will be taken directly to your Inbox. Unread mail will be in Bold. Click on the Bold text to open the message. Sending #1 - To start an message, click Compose. #2 - Click To: to select the people that will receive your message. #3 - Type in the last name of the person. #4 - Click his/her name in the list. You can type more names to select multiple people to receive your message. When you have selected everyone, click Done at the bottom of the Contact Window. Nightingmail - Student Account - 4
5 Sending #1 - Type a brief subject. If you are sending an instructor a message that relates to a specific course or group, be sure to place the course name and number in the subject area. #2 - Type your message. #3 - You can insert a file by clicking the Attach File link. When you have completed your , click Send at the bottom of the message area. Nightingmail - Student Account - 5
6 Forwarding Nightingmail Be aware that some of the Nightingmail might not correctly forward to your alternative . You will still need to check Nightingmail on a regular basis to make sure you have not missed any messages. To forward your Nightingmail to another account go to Settings. #1 - Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP. #2 - Click Add a Forwarding Address - you will receive a message: "A confirmation code has been sent to verify permission". You will receive an requesting that you click a link to complete the process. #3 - Keep this setting as is because this keeps the original message in Nightingmail and forwards a copy to your selected address. This way, you will always have the original copy in Nightingmail. Nightingmail - Student Account - 6
7 Making a Label/Folder for Each Course You will be receiving from multiple courses during the term or semester. To keep your messages organized, it is important for you to make a label/folder for each of your courses. #1 - Go to Settings, Labels. #2 - Type the name of your course and click Create. Follow this same process for each of your courses. You will need to make new labels/folders each term or semester. Nightingmail - Student Account - 7
8 Moving Mail to the Label/Folder #1 - You will notice that the name of the course label is in the left side of your mail screen. #2 - Click the boxes by the names you want to move to the course label/folder. #3 - Click Move to. #4 - Select the course where you want to move the mail to. You will notice that there is a message with Me as the sender. If you have read the tutorial regarding the Coursemates function in the Collaboration section of your CARMELink course, you noted that it is suggested that you always check Send a copy to yourself. The ME message is how it will look in the Nightingmail Inbox. Move all "Me" mail to the appropriate course folder to keep a record of messages sent. Deleting #1 - Click the box in front of the messages that you want to delete. #2 - Click Delete Nightingmail - Student Account - 8
9 Making groups If you send multiple messages to the same groups of people or you have a group project assigned, you might find it handy to make group lists in your Contact area. #1 - Click on Contacts. #2 - Click on the Group icon. #3 - Name your group. #4 - Click OK. Adding People to Your Group #1 - Click All Contacts to bring up the list of everyone that has a Nightingmail account. (For some reason the names are listed alphabetically by the person's first name and not the last name.) #2 - click the box in front of each name you want to include in your group list. #3 - Click Groups and select the Nightingmail - Student Account - 9
