Installing MySQL Hibernate: Setup, Use, and Mapping file B.Tech. (IT), Sem-6, Applied Design Patterns and Application Frameworks (ADPAF) Dharmsinh Desai University Prof. H B Prajapati Way 1 Install from MySQL website Install GUI tool such as SQLWaveto access the database Way 2 Download and install WAMP server Apache, Mysql, PHP Website: GUI tool, phpmyadmin is available as part of wamp server 1 4 Setup Hibernate in IDE Download Hibernate jar file from Visit release bundles Select latest repository Download zip file Extract zip file in a folder The folder lib\required contains all necessary jar files. Main jar file : hibernate-core*.jar Other jar files: dependencies of core file The other folders: envers, jpa, and optional provide advanced features Create a new User library (Hibernate Library) and add it to the project path Also include jar files for the selected database system E.g., for MySQL the connector file is mysql-connector-java*-bin.jar Starting WAMP server Click on the icon of WAMPserver and start all services Then, open phpmyadmin 2 5 Setup Hibernate in Netbeans IDE phpmyadmin web console Add Library Select Hibernate 3 6 1
Create a new database Create a new database 7 10 Create a database table Specify name of the table (student) and # columns (5) How to create Hibernate based application? There are two ways to create hibernate based application Create mapping (of Java class to DB table) using a mapping file. Create the mapping using annotations Table is created Create a database table Creating a hibernate based application using Mapping file Three major steps Create configuration files Hibernate configuration Database information, and other properties hibernate.cfg.xml Mapping configuration <Class_name>.hbm.xml Create a model object Define data: Define behaviors/operations on data: Methods to deal (save, delete, etc) with the database
Creating a hibernate based application using Annotations Three major steps Create configuration file Hibernate configuration Database information, and other properties hibernate.cfg.xml Create a model object with annotations Define data: Define behaviors/operations on data: Methods to deal (save, delete, etc) with the database Step 1: Select Step 3: Click Step 2: Select What about hibernate configuration file? In both ways, we use same configuration file, with little difference about mapping information Step 1: Write name Step 2: Select src Step 3: Click Creating a hibernate configuration file Name of the configuration file hibernate.cfg.xml Information in the configuration file Database connection settings JDBC connection pool SQL dialect Hibernate can generate optimized query for the specified dialect (E.g., MySQLDialect) Second level cache provider Echo all queries to stdout Property: hbm2ddl.auto Mention all model classes(with package path) Step 1: Create new database connection
Step 1: Select MySQL Test the connection Using these steps, we can create hibernate configuration file (hibernate.cfg.xml) in each project Step 2: Click Specify name of the database (ddu) HibernateDemo (Java Application) Hibernate application without annotation (i.e., using mapping file)
Application using Mapping configuration file How to access mysql console? Our Project will have the following structure at the end Java NetBeans Project Mapping configuration file Hibernate configuration file Hibernate Entity class Use Hibernate framework API Step -3: Click Step -4: Click Step -2: Click Step -1: Click Create Hibernate Configuration file Hibernate.cfg.xml(put it under src directory) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPEhibernate-configuration PUBLIC "-//Hibernate/Hibernate Configuration DTD 3.0//EN" " <hibernate-configuration> <session-factory> <property name="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.mysqldialect </property> <property name="hibernate.connection.driver_class">com.mysql.jdbc.driver </property> <property name="hibernate.connection.url">jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/ddu?zerod atetimebehavior=converttonull</property> 26 How to access mysql console? Hit enter for password 29 Create Hibernate Configuration file Browsing using phpmyadmin Hibernate.cfg.xml(put it under src directory) <property name="hibernate.connection.username">root</property> <!--List of XML mapping files --> <mapping resource="student.hbm.xml"/> </session-factory> </hibernate-configuration> 27 No table is yet created 30 5
Query to Create student table Create SQL Query: phpmyadmin: Table structure View structure of student table create table ddu.student( id INT NOT NULL auto_increment, first_name VARCHAR(20) default NULL, last_name VARCHAR(20) default NULL, semester INT default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id) ); Execute the query on mysql console We can create this file provided in Netbeans IDE Stet 2: select Stet 1: select Stet 3: click Write this query. Don t forget to write semicolon (;) at the end Refresh phpmyadmin URL Now we can see student table created under ddu database If the wizard asks for password for MySQL user: root Hit OK, without writing anything in the password field (default) database table
Stet 1: Write name Add details in Mapping File Add detail in Student.hbm.xml file created Stet 3: Click Next Stet 2: Select src <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPE hibernate-mapping PUBLIC "-//Hibernate/Hibernate Mapping DTD 3.0//EN" " <hibernate-mapping> <class name="hibernate.model.student" table="student"> <id name="id" type="int" column="id"> <generator class="native"/> </id> <property name="firstname" column="first_name" type="string"/> <property name="lastname" column="last_name" type="string"/> <property name="semester" column="semester" type="int"/> </class> </hibernate-mapping> Stet 1: Write Class name Mapping file Stet 3: Click Finish Stet 2: Select database table Student.hbm.xml file created <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPEhibernate-mapping PUBLIC "-//Hibernate/Hibernate Mapping DTD3.0//EN" " 3.0.dtd"> <hibernate-mapping> <class name="hibernate.model.student" table="student /> </hibernate-mapping> Create Main class to use entity Stet 1: Write Class name as Main Stet 2: Write package name as hibernate.user Stet 3: Click Finish
Main class (Use Hibernate API) Output on phpmyadmin package hibernate.user; import hibernate.model.student; import org.hibernate.session; import org.hibernate.sessionfactory; import org.hibernate.cfg.configuration; public class Main { public static void main(string[] args) { Student st=new Student("Harshad", "Prajapati", 6); //Build session factory SessionFactorysessionFactory= new Configuration().configure().buildSessionFactory(); //Create a session Session session=sessionfactory.opensession(); Auto generated Passed through a constructor of entity class Main class (Use Hibernate API) //Create a transaction to start interaction session.begintransaction(); session.save(st); session.gettransaction().commit(); session.close(); sessionfactory.close(); } } References Video series by gontuseries Hibernate, Java Persistent Framework, tutorialspoint, Output on mysql console Write this query. Don t forget to write semicolon (;) at the end 45 8
