13 Installing the microsdxc Card(Optional) A microsdxc card can be installed or removed while the phone is trned on. Yo need to nmont the microsdxc card before removing it. See Using the microsdxc Card as Portable or Internal Storage. 1. Insert the tip of the tray eject tool into the hole next to the nano-sim/ microsdxc card tray on the left side of the phone. 2. Place the microsdxc card on the tray with the gold-colored contacts facing down. Then careflly slide the tray back into place. 13

14 Charging the Battery Yor phone s battery shold have enogh power for the phone to trn on, find a signal, and make a few calls. Yo shold flly charge the battery as soon as possible. If the battery is low, there will be a pop-p message on the screen. As yo charge yor phone, the screen can show yo the exact battery level on the stats bar. WARNING! Use only ZTE-approved chargers and micro-usb cables. The se of napproved accessories cold damage yor phone or case the battery to explode. 14

15 CAUTION: Do not change the bilt-in rechargeable battery in yor phone by yorself. The battery can only be changed by ZTE or ZTE athorized service provider. NOTE: Use the charger that comes in-box with yor phone to charge the battery. 1. Connect the adapter to the charging jack. 2. Connect the charger to a standard AC power otlet. If the phone is on, yo ll see a charging icon, sch as or, appear on the stats bar. 15

16 3. Disconnect the charger when the battery is flly charged. NOTE: If the battery is extremely low, the phone may not power on even while charging. In this case, charge the phone at least for 20 mintes before trying to power on again. Contact the cstomer service if yo still cannot power on the phone after prolonged charging. Extending the Battery Life Active applications, screen brightness levels, Bletooth and Wi- Fi sage and GPS fnctionality can drain yor battery. Yo can follow the helpfl tips below to conserve yor battery power: Use the Power manager featre in Settings. Redce the screen backlight time. Lower the screen brightness. Trn Wi-Fi, Bletooth and ato-sync off when not in se. Disable the GPS fnction when not in se. Most applications sing this fnction will periodically qery the GPS satellites for yor crrent location, and each qery drains yor battery. 16

17 Powering On/Off Press and hold the Power key to trn on yor phone. To power off, press and hold the Power key and toch Power off. NOTE: If the phone freezes or takes too long to respond, yo can press and hold the Power key for abot 10 seconds to restart the phone. Setting Up for the First Time When yo first power on yor phone after yo prchase it or reset it to factory settings (see Backp and Reset), yo need to do some settings before sing it. Toch ACCESSIBILITY to explore other accessibility featres. If yo have no accessibility isse with the phone, toch NEXT. Then select a langage for yor phone display and follow the prompts to set p Wi-Fi, name, device protection, Google services and other options. 17

18 Locking/Unlocking the Screen and Keys Yor phone allows yo to qickly lock the screen and keys (pt the phone to sleep mode) when not in se and to trn the screen back on and nlock it when yo need it. To lock the screen and keys: To qickly trn the screen off and lock the keys, press the Power key. NOTE: To save battery power, the phone atomatically trns off the screen after some time of inactivity. Yo will still be able to receive messages and calls while the phone screen is off. To nlock the screen and keys: 1. Press the Power key to trn the screen on. 2. Press and hold an empty area of the screen. - or - Swipe right to se Voice Search app. - or - Swipe left to open the Camera app. - or - Toch a notification twice consectively to open the related app. 18

19 NOTE: If yo have set a pattern, a PIN or a password for yor phone (see Protecting Yor Phone With Screen Locks), yo ll need to draw the pattern or enter the PIN/password to nlock yor screen. Using the Toch Screen Yor phone s toch screen enables yo to control actions throgh a variety of toch gestres. Toch When yo want to type sing the onscreen keyboard, select items on the screen sch as the application and settings icons, or press the onscreen bttons, simply toch them with yor finger. Toch and Hold To open the available options for an item (for example, a message or link in a web page), toch and hold the item. Swipe or Slide To swipe or slide means to qickly drag yor finger vertically or horizontally across the screen. 19

20 Drag To drag, press and hold yor finger with some pressre before yo start to move yor finger. While dragging, do not release yor finger ntil yo have reached the target position. Pinch In some apps (sch as Maps, web browser, and Gallery), yo can zoom in and ot by placing two fingers on the screen at once and pinching them together (to zoom ot) or spreading them apart (to zoom in). Rotate the screen For most screens, yo can atomatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by trning the phone sideways. NOTE: The ato-rotate featre needs to be enabled for the screen orientation to atomatically change. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Accessibility and switch on Ato-rotate screen. Yo can also access the screen rotation control by sliding down the stats bar twice and toch Ato-rotate. 20

21 Getting to Know the Home Screen The home screen is the starting point for yor phone s applications, fnctions, and mens. Yo can cstomize yor home screen by adding shortcts, folders, widgets, and more. Extended Home Screen Panels Yor home screen is extendable, providing more space for shortcts, widgets, and more. Simply swipe left or right on 21

22 the home screen to see the extended panels. Yo can add or remove home screen panels, or adjst their order. To add a new home screen panel: 1. Toch and hold an empty area of the home screen and select Widgets. 2. Slide the home screen thmbnails and then toch. To delete a home screen panel: 1. Toch and hold an empty area of the home screen and select Home. 2. Slide the home screen thmbnails and toch on the top right corner of a thmbnail. 3. Toch OK. The items on the panel will also be removed. To adjst the order of a home screen panel: 1. Toch and hold an empty area of the home screen and select Home. 2. Slide the home screen thmbnails. 3. Toch and hold a thmbnail and drag it left or right to the place yo need. NOTE: Toch at the bottom of a home screen thmbnail to set it as the main home screen. 22

23 Personalizing Changing the System Langage 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Langages & inpt > Langages. 2. To add a system langage, toch Add a langage and then the langage yo need. 3. Toch and hold a langage and move it to the top to switch to that langage. Setting the Date and Time 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Date & time. 2. Set the date, time, time zone, and time format. To adjst the date and time atomatically, switch on Atomatic date & time. To adjst the date and time manally, switch off Atomatic date & time and toch Set date / Set time to change the date and time. To adjst the time zone atomatically, switch on Atomatic time zone. To adjst the time zone manally, switch off Atomatic time zone and toch Select time zone to set the correct time zone. 23

24 To adjst the format of time, switch on or off Use 24- hor format. Changing Ringtone and Notification Sond Yo can cstomize the defalt incoming call ringtone, defalt alarm ringtone, and the defalt notification sond. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Sond. 2. Toch Phone ringtone, Defalt notification ringtone, Defalt alarm ringtone. 3. Scroll throgh the ringtone list, msic file list or recorded sond list and select the ringtone yo want to se. 4. Toch OK. NOTES: Many applications have their own notification sond settings. See Set a Ringtone for a Contact for how to assign a special ringtone to an individal contact. Trning On/Off System Sonds 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Sond > Other sonds. 2. Switch on or off Dial pad tones, Screen locking sonds, Charging sonds, Toch sonds, Vibrate on tap, or Power p tone. 24

25 Adjsting Volme 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Sond. 2. Drag the sliders below Media volme, Alarm volme, Ring volme, and Notification volme to adjst the volme for each type of adio. NOTE: Yo can adjst the media volme when a media application is in se by pressing the Volme p/down key. If no media application is active, press the Volme p/down key to adjst ringtone volme (or the earpiece volme dring a call). Switching to Silent or Vibration Mode Yo can set the phone to silent or vibration mode by sing one of the following methods. Press the Volme p/down key when no media application is active to show the volme management window. Drag the slider to the left or keep pressing the Volme down key to switch the phone to vibration mode. Press the key again in vibration mode to switch the phone to silent mode. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel and drag the panel downwards. Toch Sond or Vibrate to switch the phone to vibration or silent mode. 25

26 NOTE: Silent and vibration modes will not silence yor alarm sond. Using Do Not Distrb Mode Yo can limit interrptions with Do not distrb mode. This mode silences yor phone so that it doesn t make sonds or vibrate when yo don t want it to. To trn on Do not distrb mode: 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Sond > Do not distrb > Do not distrb. 2. Toch Always or Schedled as yo need. Toch Always to trn on the Do not distrb featre immediately, which keeps on ntil yo trn it off. Toch Schedled to if yo want the featre trned on and off atomatically dring specific periods. 3. If yo select Schedled, toch Days, Start time, and End time to specify the periods dring which Do not distrb is on. To set exceptions for Do not distrb mode: Yo can set reminders, events, certain calls and messages as exceptions when Do not distrb mode is on, so these ringtones, sonds and vibration are not trned off. 26

27 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Sond > Do not distrb. 2. When Do not distrb is on, set Distrb rles to Priority only. 3. Toch the switches next to the items yo want to allow. Toch Messages or Calls and set who can alert yo of their messages or calls. NOTES: The Do not distrb featre will not silence yor alarms. To set exceptions based on apps, toch the Home key > > Settings > Notifications. Select an app and switch on Override Do Not Distrb. Setting Notification Mode Yo can configre yor phone s notification mode settings. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Sond. 2. Toch Notification mode and select a setting: Ring to trn on all sonds. Vibrate to trn off all sonds bt keep vibrate settings for notifications. Mte to trn all sonds and vibration off. Vibrate when ringing to let the phone vibrate the same time it rings. 27

28 Applying New Wallpapers Yo can set the wallpaper for the home screen and lock screen. 1. Toch and hold an empty area on a home screen. (If the crrent home screen doesn t have room, swipe the screen left or right to display an extended screen.) 2. Toch Wallpapers and then select Lock screen or Home screen. 3. Swipe left or right on the wallpaper panel to select a wallpaper, or toch GALLERY or LIVE WALLPAPER to choose the image or animation yo want to se as the wallpaper. Some cropping may be needed for Gallery images. 4. Toch OK (GALLERY) or SET WALLPAPER (Live and Wallpapers). NOTE: In addition, from the home screen, yo can toch > Settings > Display > Wallpaper to pick an image from Gallery, Photos, or an animation from Live Wallpapers. 28

29 Setting the Theme 1. Toch and hold an empty area on a home screen. 2. In the window that appears at the bottom, toch Themes. 3. Select a theme yo like. Changing Screen Brightness 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Display > Brightness level. 2. Drag the slider to manally adjst the screen brightness. NOTE: Yor phone can atomatically adjst the screen brightness for available light. Toch the Adaptive brightness switch to trn the featre on or off. Setting the Home Screen Transition Effect 1. Toch and hold an empty area on a home screen. 2. In the window that appears at the bottom, toch Home. 3. Pick an effect and the phone will demonstrate how it works. Toch other effects ntil yo find the favorite one. 29

30 Protecting Yor Phone With Screen Locks Yo can protect yor phone by creating a screen lock. When it is enabled, yo need to toch and hold on the screen, draw a pattern or enter a nmeric PIN or password to nlock the phone s screen and keys. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Secrity > Screen lock. 2. Toch None, Long press, Pattern, PIN or Password. Toch None to disable the screen lock. Toch Long press to enable screen lock and allow nlocking with a toch and hold gestre. Yo can nlock the screen by toching and holding the display. Toch Pattern to draw and redraw a pattern that yo mst draw to nlock the screen. Toch PIN or Password to set a nmeric PIN or a password that yo mst enter to nlock the screen. NOTE: Remember the pattern, PIN or password yo set. Protecting Yor Phone With Screen Pinning Yo can se the screen pinning featre to keep an app in view, so others cannot switch to other apps or access yor personal information. 30

31 Trn On Screen Pinning 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Secrity > Screen pinning. 2. Toch the Screen pinning switch and YES. 3. If yo want to ask for the nlock pattern, PIN or password before npinning the screen, switch on Ask for nlock pattern / PIN / password before npinning when the screen lock has been set. Pin a Screen 1. Ensre that screen pinning is trned on. 2. Open the app yo want to keep in view. 3. Toch the Recent apps key. 4. If there are many app tabs, swipe p to find on the frontmost tab. 5. Toch > GOT IT. Unpin the Screen To npin the screen and retrn to normal se, toch and hold the Back key. If yo have asked for the nlock pattern, PIN or password before npinning the screen, swipe p on the lock screen and draw the pattern or enter the PIN/password. 31

32 Knowing the Basics Monitoring the Phone Stats The stats bar at the top of the home screen provides phone and service stats icons on the right side. Below are some of the icons yo may see. 33 Managing Notifications Notification Icons The stats bar at the top of the home screen provides notification icons on the left. Below are some of the icons yo may see. / New SMS New message(s) from the app New message(s) from the Gmail app Missed call Call in progress Upcoming event New Wi-Fi network detected Downloading data Sending data USB connected Call on hold / Song playing Open/Close the Notification Panel Notifications report the arrival of new messages, calendar events, and alarms, as well as ongoing events, sch as when yo are playing msic. Yo can open the notification panel to view the details of notifications. 33

34 To open the notification panel, swipe yor finger down on the home screen or from the top of the screen. To close the notification panel, swipe yor finger p on the screen or toch the Back key. Respond to or Remove a Notification In the notification panel, yo can respond to a notification or remove the notifications. The notification panel also spports expandable notifications that let yo perform additional actions right from the notification itself. To respond to a notification, jst toch it. Slide down with one finger to expand certain notifications. Yo can also swipe two fingers vertically or pinch-zoom to expand or collapse certain notifications. To remove a notification, swipe it left or right. To remove all notifications, toch CLEAR ALL below all the notifications. To manage notifications yo have received, toch and hold a notification. Yo can then toch Show notifications silently > DONE to hide ftre notifications from this app, or toch MORE SETTINGS to configre other notification options for this app. 34

35 NOTE: If yo hide notifications for an app, yo may miss its important alerts and pdates. The notifications of some apps cannot be hided. Use Qick Settings The Qick Settings make it convenient to view or change the most common settings for yor phone. Open the notification panel and drag the panel downwards to find the following Qick Settings on the screen. Brightness: Uncheck AUTO and drag the brightness slider to adjst the screen brightness. Wi-Fi: Toch to trn on or off Wi-Fi. Toch and hold to open the Wi-Fi men in Settings. See Connecting to Wi-Fi. Bletooth: Toch to trn on or off Bletooth. Toch and hold to open the Bletooth men in Settings. See Connecting to Bletooth Devices. Sond/Vibrate/Silent: Toch to switch between sond, vibration, and silent. Toch and hold to open the Sond men in Settings. See Switching to Silent or Vibration Mode. Location: Toch to trn on or off GPS. Toch and hold to open the Location men in Settings. See Location. 35

36 Hotspot: Toch to trn on or off the portable hotspot featre. Press and hold to get to the settings screen. Flashlight: Toch to trn on or off the flash. Airplane mode: Toch to trn on or off airplane mode. Ato-rotate: Toch to trn on or off the ato-rotate screen featre. Sync: Toch to trn on or off ato-sync of acconts data. Toch and hold to add a new accont on the phone. See Acconts and Web Acconts. NOTE: In the Qick Settings screen, toch at the top to get to the Settings men; toch to switch between owner and gests; toch to change control switch position. Managing Shortcts and Widgets Add Shortcts and Widgets 1. Toch the Home key >. - or - To add widgets, toch and hold an empty area of the home screen and select Widgets. 2. Slide p or down to browse throgh available applications, or left or right to find the widget yo need. 36

37 3. Toch and hold a widget or an application icon and drag it to a home screen panel. Move Shortcts or Widgets 1. Toch and hold a shortct or widget on the home screen. 2. Drag it to the place yo need. Remove Shortcts or Widgets 1. Toch and hold a shortct or widget on the home screen. 2. Drag it to to remove it. Adjst Widget Size 1. Toch and hold a widget on the home screen and then release it. 2. An otline appears arond the widget. Drag the otline to resize the widget. NOTE: Not all widgets can be resized. Organizing With Folders Yo can create folders on the home screen and add several shortcts to a folder. Yo can move or remove folders the same way as moving or removing shortcts. 37

38 1. Toch and hold a shortct on the home screen and drag it to at the top left. 2. Release the shortct. A new folder will be created and the shortct is added into the folder. 3. To add more shortcts into the folder, toch and hold each shortct and drag it over the folder before releasing it. NOTES: Toch the folder and then toch the name field to rename the folder. Drag the folder to to delete the folder. Rearranging the Primary Shortcts The home screen incldes a cstomizable primary shortcts area at the bottom visible from all home screens. Yo can keep at most for items in the primary shortcts area. Drag shortcts or folders in or ot of the area to rearrange it. 38

39 Entering Text Yo can enter text sing the onscreen keyboard. Some apps open it atomatically. In others, yo open it by toching where yo want to type. Toch the Back key to hide the onscreen keyboard. Yo can also enter text by speaking with the Google voice typing featre. Gboard Keyboard The Gboard Keyboard provides a layot similar to a desktop compter keyboard. When screen ato-rotation is enabled, trn the phone sideways and the keyboard will change from portrait to landscape. The landscape keyboard is not spported in all applications. 39

40 Toch the alphabetic keys to enter letters. Toch and hold some specific keys to enter associated accented letters or nmbers. For example, to enter È, toch and hold and the available accented letters and nmber 3 appear. Then slide to choose È. As yo enter a word, candidates appear above the keyboard. Toch to select the correct one; toch and hold to see more possible options. Toch to se ppercase. Doble-tap to lock ppercase. This key also changes to indicate the crrent case yo are sing: for lowercase, for ppercase, and when locked in ppercase. Toch to delete the text before the crsor. Toch to select nmbers and symbols. Yo can then toch to find more. Toch to enter miniatre icons, sch as expressions, GIF, animals, and more. Toch to se Google Search or go to other settings. Toch to se Google voice typing. Toch and hold to change the inpt langage or set p the Gboard Keyboard. 40

41 - or Toch and hold, and then select to enable one handed mode. Google Voice Typing Google voice typing ses Google voice recognition to convert speech to text. To se Google voice typing: 1. Toch to access the voice typing when yo are sing the Gboard Keyboard. 2. When yo see the microphone image, speak what yo want to type. The phone will work on yor speech and display the transcription. 3. Contine entering text to keep it or to delete it. NOTE: Say comma, period, qestion mark, exclamation mark, or exclamation point to enter pnctation. Inpt Method Settings Choose the inpt method settings by toching > Settings > Langages & inpt from the home screen. Toch Personal dictionary to add or delete cstomized words. 41

42 Toch Spell checker to enable or disable spell checking featre. Yo can toch to set more options of installed spell checking services. In the Keyboard and inpt methods section, yo can configre onscreen virtal keyboards and physical keyboard assistance. Editing Text Move the insertion point: Toch where yo want to type. The crsor blinks in the new position, and a tab appears below it. Drag the tab to move the crsor. Select text: Toch and hold or doble-tap within the text. The nearest word highlights, with a tab at each end of the selection. Drag the tabs to change the selection. Ct or copy: Select the text yo want to maniplate. Then toch the CUT or COPY to ct or copy the text to the clipboard. Replace text with the clipboard text: Select the text yo want to replace. Then toch PASTE. 47 Connecting to Wi-Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that can provide Internet access at distances of p to 300 feet, depending on the Wi-Fi roter and yor srrondings. Trn Wi-Fi On and Connect to a Wi-Fi Network 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position to trn on Wi-Fi. 3. Toch a network name to connect to it. 4. If the network is secred, enter the password and toch CONNECT. NOTE: Yor phone atomatically connects to previosly sed Wi-Fi networks when they are in range. Get Notified of Open Networks 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position. 3. Toch. 4. Slide the Network notification switch to the On position. 47

48 When Wi-Fi is on, yo will receive notifications in the Stats Bar when yor phone detects an open Wi-Fi network. Slide the Network notification switch to the Off position to trn off notifications. Add a Wi-Fi Network Yo can add a Wi-Fi network if the network does not broadcast its name (SSID), or add a Wi-Fi network when yo are ot of range. To connect to a secred network, yo first need to get the secrity details from the network s administrator. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position. 3. Toch Add network. 4. Enter the network SSID (name). If necessary, enter secrity or other network configration details. 5. Toch SAVE. Connect to a WPS Network Wi-Fi Protected Setp (WPS) is a featre that makes it easy to add yor phone to the access points which spport WPS. Yo can se one of the following methods to connect yor phone to a wireless network sing WPS. 48

49 Method one: WPS btton (Recommended) 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position. 3. Toch > Advanced > WPS Psh Btton. 4. Press the WPS btton on the access point and the access point will recognize yor phone and add it to the network. Method two: PIN nmber 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position. 3. Toch > Advanced > WPS Pin Entry. 4. The WPS PIN nmber displays on the screen. Enter the PIN nmber into the access point s setp page. After entering the PIN nmber, yor phone atomatically finds the access point and configres the connection. 50 Forget a Wi-Fi Network Yo can make yor phone forget abot the details of a Wi- Fi network that yo added - for example, if yo don t want the phone to connect to it atomatically or if it is a network that yo no longer se. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position. 3. Toch > Saved networks. 4. Toch the Wi-Fi network name and then toch FORGET. Adjst Advanced Wi-Fi Settings 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Toch > Advanced to adjst the following settings. Install certificates: Install certificates needed for connecting to certain Wi-Fi networks. Wi-Fi Direct: Use the Wi-Fi Direct featre. See Using Wi-Fi Direct. WPS Psh Btton: Connect to a WPS network via the psh btton method. WPS Pin Entry: Connect to a WPS network via the phone PIN method. 50

51 Passpoint: Enable or disable yor phone to atomatically connect to a passpoint-certified Wi-Fi access point. Using Wi-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct allows Wi-Fi devices to share files and data directly by connecting to each other withot the need for wireless access points (hotspots). To connect via Wi-Fi Direct: 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. If Wi-Fi is off, slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position. 3. Toch > Advanced > Wi-Fi Direct. Yor phone will search for other devices enabled with Wi-Fi Direct connections. 4. Toch a device name below Peer devices and select Connect to connect with it. The other device will receive a connection prompt and need to accept the reqest for connection. Both devices may need to enter a common PIN. 5. Once connected the device is displayed as Connected in the Peer devices list. 51

52 Connecting to Bletooth Devices Bletooth is a short-range wireless commnication technology. Phones or other devices with Bletooth capabilities can exchange information wirelessly within a distance of abot 30 feet. The Bletooth devices mst be paired before the commnication is performed. Trn Bletooth On/Off 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Bletooth. 2. Slide the Bletooth switch to the On or Off position. When Bletooth is on, the icon appears in the stats bar. Change the Device Name 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Bletooth. 2. Slide the Bletooth switch to the On position if Bletooth is off. 3. Toch > Rename this device. 4. Edit the name and toch RENAME. 52

53 Pair With Another Bletooth Device 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Bletooth. 2. Slide the Bletooth switch to the On position if Bletooth is off. Yor phone atomatically scans for and displays the IDs of all available Bletooth devices in range. Yo cold toch > Refresh if yo want to scan again. 3. Toch the device yo want to pair with. 4. Confirm that the Bletooth passkeys are the same between the two devices and toch PAIR. Alternately, enter a Bletooth passkey and toch PAIR. Pairing is sccessflly completed when the other device accepts the connection or the same passkey is entered. NOTE: The Bletooth passkey may be fixed for certain devices, sch as headsets and hands-free car kits. Yo can try entering 0000 or 1234 (the most common passkeys), or refer to the docments for that device. Forget (Unpair With) a Bletooth Device Yo can make yor phone forget its pairing connection with another Bletooth device. To connect to the device again, yo need to search it and enter or confirm a passkey again. 53

Send Data via Bletooth 1. Open the appropriate application and select the file or item yo want to share. 2. Select the option for sharing via Bletooth. The method may vary by application and data type. 3. Toch a Bletooth device the phone has paired with or wait for it to search for new devices and toch one of them. Receive Data via Bletooth 1. Trn Bletooth on before trying to receive data via Bletooth. 2. Toch ACCEPT to start receiving the data. Received files are stored atomatically in a dedicated folder (Bletooth, for instance) in the phone. Yo can access them with the File Manager app. NOTE: Received contacts (vcard files) are atomatically imported to yor contact list. 54

55 Connecting to Yor Compter via USB Yo can connect yor phone to a compter with a USB cable and transfer msic, pictres, and other files in both directions. Yor phone stores these files in its internal storage. If yo are sing USB tethering, yo mst trn that off before yo can se USB to transfer files between yor phone and compter. Connect Yor Phone to a Compter via USB 1. Connect yor phone to the PC with a USB cable. 2. Open the notification panel and toch Android System. 3. Choose one of the following options: Charge only: Charge yor phone via USB. Install driver: Install the driver needed for some USB connection modes (sch as MTP). Yo only need to install the driver on the same PC once. NOTE: Yo can also install the driver on PC by rnning the exectable file in the new CD-ROM drive. 55

56 Media device (MTP): Transfer files on Windows PC or Mac. NOTE: For Windows XP, please install the drivers and Media Player 11 (or later version) when yo se Media device (MTP) for the first time. Camera (PTP): Transfer photos sing camera software. USB tethering: Share mobile network of yor phone and access Internet on PC. NOTE: To make yor phone connect to the compter atomatically sing the selected connection type, check Don t ask me again. Connect With Windows Media Player Yo can sync msic, pictre, and video files from the compter to yor phone via Windows Media Player on the compter. 1. Connect the phone with yor compter via USB and choose Media device (MTP). 2. Open Windows Media Player and synchronize msic, pictre, and video files. 56

57 Disconnect Yor Phone From the Compter To disconnect the phone from the compter, simply nplg the USB cable when yo re finished. Using the microsdxc Card as Portable or Internal Storage Yo can se yor microsdxc card as portable storage for photos, media, and other files so that yo don t lose them, or yo can format the card for se as internal storage. Set Up the microsdxc Card as Portable Storage When yo install a microsdxc card that has not been sed on yor phone before, the phone will mont the card as portable storage by defalt. Yo can also open the Notification Panel and toch the microsdxc card name, select Use as portable storage and then toch NEXT > DONE. Remove the microsdxc Card From Yor Phone If yo need to remove the microsdxc card while the phone is on, yo shold nmont it first. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Storage. 2. Toch next to the card name in the Portable storage section. 57

58 3. When the screen prompts the card is safely ejected, yo can remove it from the phone. Erase and Formatting the microsdxc Card 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Storage. 2. Toch the card name in the Portable storage section. 3. Toch Format > ERASE & FORMAT. CAUTION: The formatting procedre erases all the data on the microsdxc card, after which the files CANNOT be retrieved. Set Up the microsdxc Card as Internal Storage If yor microsdxc card is new or doesn t have content yo want to keep, yo can format the card and se it as part of the internal storage. If yo move the microsdxc card to another device, it mst be formatted before it can be sed. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Storage. 2. Toch the card name in the Portable storage section. 3. Toch Format as internal. 4. Toch ERASE & FORMAT. CAUTION: The formatting procedre erases all the data on the microsdxc card, after which the files CANNOT be retrieved. 58

59 5. The phone will prompt yo to move yor photos, files and other data from the internal storage to the microsdxc card. Select Move now or Move later and toch NEXT. Follow the on-screen instrctions to contine. CAUTION: As part of the internal storage, the microsdxc card may have data on it that is necessary for some apps to fnction normally. Therefore, do not remove or replace the card randomly. Move data between the internal storage and the microsdxc card With the microsdxc card as part of the internal storage, yo can move yor photos, files and other data between the internal storage and the card any time. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Storage. 2. Toch Phone in the Device storage section. 3. Toch Migrate data. 4. Toch MOVE. NOTE: Whenever yo move data between the internal storage and the microsdxc card, the destination is sed to save new apps and personal data (sch as photos and videos) and this destination is only accessible from a compter. 59

60 Reformat the microsdxc card as portable storage If yo no longer want to se yor microsdxc card as internal storage, yo can reformat the card as portable storage. Toch Format as portable. 4. Toch FORMAT. CAUTION: The formatting procedre erases all the data on the microsdxc card, after which files CANNOT be retrieved. Sharing Yor Mobile Data Connection Yo can share yor phone s data capabilities throgh tethering or by activating the Wi-Fi hotspot featre to create a mobile hotspot. Share Yor Mobile Data Connection via USB Yo can access the Internet on yor compter via the USB tethering featre of yor phone. The featre needs data connection on a mobile network and may reslt in data charges. 60

61 NOTE: Yo cannot transfer files between yor phone and yor compter via USB while the phone is USB tethered. 1. Connect yor phone to yor compter with a USB cable. 2. Toch the Home key > > Settings > More. 3. Switch on USB tethering. A new network connection will be created on yor compter. NOTE: To stop sharing yor data connection, switch off USB tethering or disconnect the USB cable. Share Yor Mobile Data Connection via Bletooth If yor compter can obtain an Internet connection via Bletooth, yo can configre yor phone to share its mobile data connection with yor compter. 1. Pair yor phone with yor compter via Bletooth. 2. Configre yor compter to obtain its network connection via Bletooth. For more information, please see yor compter s docments. 3. Toch the Home key > > Settings > More. 4. Switch on Bletooth tethering. Yor compter is now sharing yor phone s data connection. 61

Share Yor Mobile Data Connection as a Hotspot Yo can share yor phone s data connection with other devices by trning yor phone into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. The featre needs data connection on a mobile network and may reslt in data charges. NOTE: When the portable Wi-Fi hotspot featre is enabled, yo cannot se yor phone s Wi-Fi capability to access the Internet. Yo still remain connected to the Internet via yor mobile data network. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Hotspot. 2. Switch on Hotspot. After a moment, the phone starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID). 3. On another device, locate yor phone via Wi-Fi and connect with it to start sing the phone s mobile data. NOTE: To stop sharing yor data connection, switch off Hotspot. 62

63 Set Yor Hotspot Yo can change the name of yor phone s Wi-Fi network (SSID), secre yor portable Wi-Fi hotspot, and set other options. 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > Hotspot. 2. Toch Configre and set the following options. Network name: Enter or edit a network SSID (name) that other devices see when scanning for Wi-Fi networks. Channel: To avoid interference with other Wi-Fi networks, try sing a different channel. Secrity: Choose a secrity option: Open (not recommended) or WPA2 PSK (other sers can access yor mobile hotspot only if they enter the correct password). When yo select WPA2 PSK, toch the Password field to edit the secrity password. Show Password: Check or ncheck to display or hide the password. Broadcast network name(ssid): Broadcast or hide yor network SSID. If the broadcast is disabled, other sers need to get yor network SSID to find the Wi-Fi hotspot.. 3. Toch SAVE to save yor settings. 63

64 Connecting to Virtal Private Networks Virtal private networks (VPNs) allow yo to connect to the resorces inside a secred local network. VPNs are commonly deployed by corporations, schools, and other instittions to let people access local network resorces when not on camps, or when connected to a wireless network. Depending on the type of VPN yo are sing, yo may be reqired to enter yor login credentials or install secrity certificates before yo can connect to yor VPN. Yo can get this information from yor network administrator. Add a VPN 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > More > VPN. 2. Toch at the top right corner and fill in the information provided by yor network administrator. 3. Toch SAVE. The VPN is added to the list on the VPN screen. NOTE: Yo mst set a lock PIN or password before sing VPN. 64

65 Connect to a VPN 1. Toch the Home key > > Settings > More > VPN. 2. Toch the VPN that yo want to connect to. 3. When prompted, enter any reqested credentials, and then toch CONNECT. 66 Phone Calls Yo can place calls from the Phone app, the Contacts app, or other apps or widgets that display contact information. Wherever yo see a phone nmber, yo can sally toch it to dial. Placing and Ending Calls Place a Call by Dialing 1. Toch the Home key >. 2. If the dialpad is closed, toch to display it. 3. Enter the phone nmber or the contact name with the dialpad. Toch to delete incorrect digits. NOTE: As yo enter the phone nmber or the contact name, yor phone searches for matching information in yor contacts. If yo see the nmber and contact yo want to call, toch it to place the call immediately. 4. Toch below the keypad to dial. 66

Answering or Rejecting Calls When yo receive a phone call, the incoming call screen opens, displaying the caller ID or the information abot the caller that yo ve entered in the Contacts app. Yo can answer or reject the call, or reject it with a text message. Answer a Call When yo receive a phone call, slide down to to answer the call. NOTE: To silence the ringer before answering the call, yo can press the Volme key or the Power key. 67

68 Reject a Call When yo receive a phone call, slide p to p to reject the call. Yo can also toch Message reject to reject the call and select a preset text message or write one to send to the caller. Working With the Call History The call history is a list of all the calls yo ve placed, received, or missed. It provides a convenient way to redial a nmber, retrn a call, or add a nmber to yor contacts. To open the call history, yo can toch the Home key > > RECENTS. If the dialpad is visible, toch the Back key to hide it and view the call history. Place a Call From the Call History 1. Open the call history. 2. Toch the phone icon next to a nmber or contact to place a call. For additional options, toch the name or nmber. NOTE: Yo can also toch View fll call history and then toch (MISSED), (OUTGOING), or (INCOMING) to filter the records by call type. 68

Here s how to check the messages they left. 1. Toch the Home key > > RECENTS. 2. If the dialpad is closed, toch to display it. 3. Toch and hold the 1 key in the dialer. Toch to mte or nmte yor microphone. Toch to trn on or off the speakerphone. Toch to pt the caller yo are speaking to on hold, and switch to the other call that has been pt on hold. 72 Managing Mlti-party Calls When the call waiting and three-way call featres are available, yo can switch between two calls or set p a conference call. NOTE: The call waiting and three-way call featres need network spport and may reslt in additional charges. Please contact yor service provider for more information. Switch Between Crrent Calls When yo re on a call and another call comes in, yor phone screen informs yo and displays the caller ID. To respond to an incoming call while yo re on a call: Toch to answer the call. Toch to reject the second call. Toch to reject the second call and select a preset text message or write one to send to the caller. To switch between two calls: Toch to switch back to the other call. 72

73 Set Up a Conference Call With this featre, yo can talk to two people at the same time. 1. Place the first call. 2. Once yo have established the connection, toch and dial the second nmber. (This pts the first caller on hold.) 3. When yo re connected to the second party, toch. If one of the people yo called hangs p dring yor call, yo and the remaining caller stay connected. If yo initiated the call and are the first to hang p, all callers are disconnected. To end the conference call, toch. Adjsting Yor Call Settings Display Options Yo can set the order of the contacts displayed in the Phone app. 1. Toch the Home key > > > Settings > Display options. 2. Toch Sort by or Name format to set the order of the contacts and the format of the contact names. 73

78 Set TTY Mode Yor phone is a TTY compatible device. A TTY device can allow people who have hearing or speech disabilities to commnicate by telephone. Simply connect the TTY device to the phone s headset jack. Select a TTY mode for yor phone to work with a TTY device, or trn TTY off. 1. Toch > > Link. 4. Toch the contact whose information yo want to join with the first entry. 5. Toch. 88 Web Acconts Adding or Removing Acconts Yo can add mltiple Google acconts and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync acconts. Toch the type of accont yo want to add. 3. Follow the onscreen steps to enter the information abot the accont. Most acconts reqire a sername and password, bt the details may vary. Slide the stats bar down to open the Notifications panel. 2. Toch the pcoming schedle name to display the schedle. 116 Retoching Yor Pictres Yo can edit any photos yo took and some other pictres in Gallery. The changed pictre is saved in the same albm as the original image, which is not affected. 1. Toch > Other edit > Photo Editor while viewing a pictre in fll screen to open the Photo Editor interface. NOTE: Yo can also choose to edit the pictre with Photos. Some editing tools need to be downloaded. 2. Toch an edit option along the bottom of the screen and edit the pictre. NOTE: Slide left or right at the bottom of the screen to find all options. Copying Msic Files to Yor Phone Before sing Msic, yo need to copy or download adio files to yor phone. Copy From a Compter 1. Connect yor phone and the compter with a USB cable. 2. Toch Media device (MTP) as the connection mode (see Connect Yor Phone to a Compter via USB). 3. Copy the msic file from the PC to the phone storage or microsdxc card. Download From the Internet Yo can download msic files sing certain apps, sch as Google Play Msic. Receive via Bletooth Yo can receive msic files from other devices via Bletooth. (see Receive Data via Bletooth). 118

119 Viewing Yor Msic Library Toch the Home key > > Msic and yor msic library is displayed. All yor adio files are cataloged according to the information stored in the files. Yor msic is organized by All Songs, Favorites, Playlists, Albms, Folders, and Artists. Yo can also tap a song nder Recently Played to play it again. NOTE: If an adio file is being played, its name and player controls are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Toch the area to open the playback screen. Setting a Song as the Defalt Ringtone The song will be sed as the ringtone for all incoming calls, except those from contacts to whom yo have assigned special ringtones to (see Set a Ringtone for a Contact). 1. Toch the Home key > > Msic to see the msic library. 2. Toch next to a song in any list. 3. In the men that opens, toch Set as ringtone. NOTE: If the song is being played and yo re in the playback screen, yo can toch > Set as ringtone. 119

Managing Playlists Create playlists to organize yor msic files into sets of songs, so that yo can play the songs yo like in the order yo prefer. Toch > Add to playlist next to a song to add it to a playlist or create a new playlist. Toch > Delete next to a playlist to delete the playlist. Toch > Rename next to a playlist to rename the playlist Toch a playlist to view its content. Yo can toch > Remove to select the songs yo want to remove. NOTE: The above options may not be available for certain atomatically created playlists, sch as Recently Added. 122

Opening the Video Library Toch in the home screen and select Video Player to view yor video library, where yor video files are displayed. Swipe p or down to find the video yo want. Yo can also toch to search for video files, or toch > View by or Sort by to change the display mode or sort the list. Playing and Controlling Videos Toch a video in the video library to play it. Toch the screen to show the playback controls. Yo can control the video and adio or carry ot other operations. Toch the play/pase btton at the bottom to pase or resme the playback. Slide horizontally on the screen to rewind or fast forward. Slide vertically on the right or left part of the screen to adjst volme or brightness. Toch to skip to the next video.
