DRAWING VECTOR DRAWING An essential part of our overall program outcomes, vector illustration is a vital part of any New Media designer s tool set. Unlike bitmap images, vector images are scalable. Additionally, Illustrator s vector file sizes are small compared to the larger bitmap images from Photoshop. Finally, vector files are the heart of every logo design and the raw material of many motion graphics projects. VECTOR ILLUSTRATION EXPERIENCES: Summary of Course Learning Outcomes... This course covers a wide range of fundamental technologies involved in professional digital design and production. Professional industry standards are covered in depth. Topics include: digital color, vector graphics, typography for new media, fundamentals of bitmap imaging, scanning, font technologies, the Mac OS, production efficiencies, presentation & output methods. This first semester class allows students to perform fundamental Macintosh OS operations while learning an essential, industry tool in depth. Illustrator software will be used at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels to create vector drawings. Illustrator will be used as an introduction to setting and manipulating type for purposes of communicating LOGO specific concepts. Illustrator will be used to produce basic to complex vector illustrations including those with gradient mesh. Students learn the principles of digital audio editing, timing, mixing, sequencing, midi and compression technologies.
