1 Vista Release Notes Version 3 Release 7 Vista is the contract and financial manager of Galaxy, Isogon's integrated asset management solution. Vista gives you the power and flexibility needed to manage contracts, ensure software license compliance, prepare and maintain accurate budgets, track invoice payments, control password allocation, and deliver timely reminders of important dates. This document highlights the functionality of Vista Version 3 Release 7 (Vista 3.7) and key known issues. New Features in Vista 3.7 Vista Reports Packaged reports have been created for Agreement, Financial, and Compliance information. Categorized Reports The reports are categorized for easy access. The following are the categories and the associated reports. Note: Refer to the Vista User s Guide for more detail on individual reports. 2 Miscellaneous My Views Hardware Inventory by Location with Agreements Software Agreements by Vendor with Usage Software Inventory by Hardware with Licensing Software Inventory by Location with Agreements Companies with Contacts and Events Software Assets with Passwords Views customized by the user The following is a screen shot of the new grouping of Views feature: Expand/Collapse the Tree View The Expand/Collapse feature will support expanding multiple levels of the tree without multiple clicks on the (+) plus signs. The Expand function is based on a highlighted entity. The highlighted entity cannot be the Enterprise. The Collapse function is based on a highlighted entity or the entire tree. Access to the Expand/Collapse feature can be obtained from the menu bar or the shortcut menu. To access the Expand/Collapse feature from the menu bar, click View and select Expand/Collapse and Expand Level, Collapse Level or Collapse All. To access the Expand/Collapse feature from the shortcut menu, right-click a selected entity in the tree view to open the shortcut menu. Select Expand/Collapse and Expand Level, Collapse Level or Collapse All. Expand Level will expand up to 500 items under the level that is highlighted in the tree view. Each sublevel will be expanded to its lowest level until 500 items are reached. If a 500-item limit is reached, you can then select the next 500 items. This 500-item display is similar to current the (+) plus sign operation The expansion will continue for all sublevels below the highlighted level until the 500-item limit is reached or there are no more sub-levels to expand. If multiple levels are highlighted, only the first level will be expanded up to the 500-item limit. Collapse Level will collapse the entire hierarchy from the entity that is highlighted in the tree view. Collapse All will collapse the entire hierarchy back to all the entities under Enterprise. Vista Import Vista includes a new import function that provides a GUI that maps Galaxy data to external data for Excel or CSV files. The Vista Import feature supports updating records and importing links. Vista Import also works with Scheduler so that records can be automatically imported on a continuous basis. When importing data (via Vista Import) that updates Distiller data, Isogon recommends you use Vendor IDs, Product IDs, and Version Group IDs to prevent duplicate records. An example of a Vendor ID is COMPUWAR (for Compuware Corporation). An example of a Product ID and Version Group is ABENDDB2 (for ABEND-AID for DB2). A complete list of Vendor, Product, and Version Group IDs can be found on the Isogon support site. 2 of 5

3 It is highly recommended that you contact Isogon so that Vista Services can determine the project based on the complexity of the data to be imported. Localization Vista has been translated into German and Spanish. The language used is determined by the regional settings. If the regional settings are set to German, Vista will be displayed in German. If the regional settings are set to Spanish, Vista will be displayed in Spanish. Any other regional settings will display Vista in English. Unsupported Platforms In Release 3.7, SQL Server 7 is no longer a supported Galaxy database server. It now requires SQL Server Before installing Galaxy 3.7, make sure to upgrade any SQL Server 7 servers to SQL Server 2000 (and update MSDE 7 to MSDE 2000). In Release 3.7, Windows 98 and Windows NT are no longer supported as Galaxy client workstation operating systems. Windows 2003 Server Windows 2003 Server is a supported platform for the Galaxy server. New Installations The Galaxy installation program has been rewritten. The Galaxy installation will only install the required Galaxy components. It will not install other components that may be necessary, such as Adobe Reader, SQL Server, etc. Please refer to the Galaxy Administrator s Guide for the required third-party components as well as detailed instructions for how to install Galaxy. Before beginning any client installations, the SQL Server 2000 Client Access components must be preinstalled. This can be done using the original SQL Server installation CD. SQL Server must also be running prior to installing your database; this can be verified using the SQL Server Service Manager. NOTE: SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 (or later) is strongly recommended for SQL Server While this is not required for Galaxy to function, Microsoft has addressed several significant security issues in the latest service pack. Upgrade Installations If you are upgrading an existing version of Galaxy, make sure that the existing MSDE or SQL Server installation is upgraded to the latest service pack (for MSDE 2000 and SQL Server 2000, currently SP3). While this is not required for Galaxy to function, Microsoft has addressed several significant security issues in the latest service pack. In past Galaxy installations, you were given an option to back up your existing database. The installation of Galaxy (and higher) does not include this option. You should make a backup of your existing database using the facility provided by SQL Server prior to upgrading Galaxy. Isogon recommends that you back up your database regularly. Galaxy (and higher) makes use of new installation technology that is not compatible with prior Galaxy releases. To upgrade, you must remove the previous version of Galaxy from your computer. Galaxy does not need to be removed in order to upgrade to 3.7; only versions earlier than need to be removed. Do not use Add/Remove Programs to remove Galaxy. Do not remove your Galaxy database. To remove Galaxy from your computer, follow the instructions below. Isogon recommends that a complete backup of the PC be made before proceeding. Galaxy Database on Separate Server If your Galaxy program is installed on one or more client computers and your Galaxy database resides on a separate server (that does not have the Galaxy program installed), select Installation Type: Database on the server where your Galaxy database resides. Then, perform the following on each client computer: Follow the instructions in the appropriate technical note for uninstalling your current release of Galaxy (Uninstall Galaxy 3.4 or Uninstall Galaxy 3.6) Proceed with the installation of Galaxy Release 3.7 Select Installation Type: Client Components Only 3 of 5

4 Galaxy Program and Database on Same Computer If your Galaxy program and Galaxy database reside on a single computer, perform the following on that computer: Follow the instructions in the appropriate technical note for uninstalling your current release of Galaxy (Uninstall Galaxy 3.4 or Uninstall Galaxy 3.6) Proceed with the installation of Galaxy Release 3.7 Select Installation Type: Complete When the installation is complete, run Setup.exe again and select Installation Type: Database If you are on a release earlier than Galaxy 3.4, contact Isogon Technical Support for assistance with your upgrade. Refer to the Galaxy Administrator s Guide for the required third-party components and detailed instructions on installing Galaxy. Sample Database A sample database is no longer installed or included on the installation CD. To obtain a copy of the Galaxy 3.7 sample database, contact Isogon Technical Support: Citrix Web Access Isogon Galaxy now supports seamless browser-based Web access to the Galaxy line of products via Citrix MetaFrame technology as well as through Microsoft Terminal Services. This capability eliminates the need to install and maintain Isogon Galaxy software, including Vista, across the enterprise. Web access is provided using Citrix and Microsoft Application Server products that support a full range of security technologies found in today s complex environments. Galaxy supports the Citrix MetaFrame environment. Citrix can be used to access Vista via the web. Refer to the technical note, Galaxy Access via Citrix Metaframe XP, for more information on configuring Galaxy. This should be read before installing Galaxy. For information about accessing Galaxy through the web via Microsoft Terminal Services, see the Galaxy Web Access (Terminal Services) technical note. Key Known Issues Template Management The Galaxy property (id) must always be common. This property is used to provide a unique identifier for each record, which is needed for updating records during a Vista Import. If it is made uncommon, new Template Types will not automatically contain the (id) property. (Ref ID # 2132) Properties cannot be deleted from Templates. (Ref ID# 2325 and 2311) View Management User-created filters saved in View Management by the administrator are global filters. However, the administrator can also modify filters in Views, which will affect all users. Therefore, the administrator should make filter changes in View Management, not in Views. (Ref ID # 2103) Users in the same group are not able to share Views. The Administrator will need to create Views that need to be shared. (Ref ID # 2104) Views In all views, the Print function should not be used; the performance of this function is very slow. Whenever possible, Packaged Reports should be used to print data from Galaxy. (Ref ID #2341) Reporting When running Reports, at least one other entity besides Enterprise must be selected. 4 of 5

5 To optimize the performance of reports, set up any filters in Views prior to running a report. Packaged Reports To run the Expected Payment report, your Recurring Charge Asset Group must have a Payment Frequency greater than zero. (Ref ID # 2449) Vista Packaged Reports are not governed by security through User Management. These reports will be added to User Management in a future release. (Ref ID # 2375) Scheduler The logged-in user account under which Scheduler is running must have read/write authority to the folder containing the files to be imported. Vista Import The default maximum length for a property name that is being imported is 38 characters. It can be increased to 126 characters if necessary. (Ref ID # 2064) Column names in both Excel and comma separated value import files must not contain spaces.
